Omake 8: Chibi Antics (1)

Kunou could only hum as she felt her adrenaline starting to wear off. Two hours, that's how long she and Koneko had trained while Hoitsu had been out for some school-related business. It wasn't the first time that a 'minor emergency' unfolded at Kuoh Academy, mostly tied up to some old paperwork or things like that. Nothing really concerning at least, which made his departures with this reasoning not as worrying for more troubling matters. No, Kunou had learned that the best way to keep her mind calm and relieved during these instances was to train up with her senpai.

Sure, she generally trained with her big brother when he was around, but it felt somewhat 'better' to train with the Nekoshou. The silver-haired girl was definitely close to her in terms of power, something which was slowly changing due to their power-gap dwindling the more Kunou learned the basis and expanded on those. What really offered an advantage to both was to keep up a stable growth where none of the two would have ended up being stronger than the other was their respective advantages when it came to fighting. Kunou had a larger magical reserve and an impressive stamina, but a terrible management of both while fighting close-quarter combat; Koneko had her experience and her own strength making her incredibly proficient in this kind of situation, but her magical power was terribly limited with the lack of training into Senjutsu until recently. Both were working on their flaws, knowing that eventually they would have been able to fix those and attain a higher degree of might. It was there that their spars would keep being… intense and particularly close-called.

"Enough," Baraqiel called out with a serious voice. "You both are close to collapse already."

The blonde's lips twitched in frustration at that comment even though it was right. She could feel the strain building even as she remained put and… it annoyed her a lot. It really made her feel like she could do much more and yet her body wasn't willing to concede beyond that 'little'. Two hours was a big improvement from the thirty minutes that was back when she started to spar. Kunou was a bit irked at the time when she learned she was so 'fragile' in combat. 'Glass Cannon' was the best way to describe her early disposition, which pushed the blonde kitsune to seek improvement so that she wasn't some damsel in distress. That would be fine if it didn't mean stressing her Niichan too much. One thing was being spoiled by the childish idea of getting rescued by him, another was just becoming a nuisance due to it. Plus, she knew that allowing this to happen so many times would just make it stupid. She was much better than this.

Humming quietly she sat beside Koneko, the girl already drinking from her water bottle. As the kitsune followed her example, the senpai spared her a curious look. At first there were no words being brought up, but soon the Nekoshou spoke and brought up an interesting comment that left Kunou perplexed.

"Do you think we should prank, Hoitsu-niichan?"

The question was a bit sudden, but also quite uncharacteristic of Koneko. The girl was hardly the prankster, and generally not the one that planned out any tricks as she preferred taking secondary roles rather than planning out something. The kitsune's foxy ears twitched nonetheless, her trickster nature flashing briefly in her mind and urging her to at least listen to that possibility. So… she did.

"What about?"

"We could go with the simple bucket of water over the door."

Kunou frowned, partly disappointed it was something so silly and… well, weak. Maybe it was her inner trickster that was coming out but she really would have wanted something more.

"We could put some soap and a sponge in it," The blonde offered, gaining a confused look from the cat-girl.

"Wouldn't that possibly hurt his eyes?"

Kunou's mouth opened… and then closed. She had to admit that wasn't a pleasant development, so another idea came out.

"Tomato Sauce?"

That seemed to gain Koneko's attention and then approval after some compelling argument. It didn't stink, but it was slimy and made for a 'creepier' prank to pull on someone. It sounded incredibly clever considering that there was a lot of tomato sauce put aside for food, so it shouldn't have been a problem to use some of it in a prank.

Hoitsu called to inform them that he was going to make it for lunch, so it was clear he was soon to come back. Setting up the bucket was actually simple, but it took a while to convince Baraqiel to 'mistakenly' give them a special seal which should make the fall of the bucket mostly silent. After making sure everything was set, it was just a matter of waiting.

Yawning while opening the door, Hoitsu entered the room with a tired look, clearly drained by what had happened to school and… he sure became more aware of something being wrong when he saw red and felt something slimy trail from his head and shoulders down to the rest of his body. A bucket over his head covering his sight for a while, but the familiar giggles gave him a clear understanding of what was going on.

"Oh oh? It would seem I was tricked by two giggling dummies."

Kunou snorted. "It's not dumb."

"Is it not, now?" Hoitsu hummed while he removed the bucket and cleaned up the spot of red that covered a good part of his face. "I believe you are."

"Nope, you just suck."

"I suppose I do suck but… there is also something you missed in this 'brilliant plan' of yours?"

The kitsune frowned, failing to grasp the smugness coming from her surrogate big brother's voice. Something was missing, she could see as much, but the truth came out only when it was too late. Niichan was faster than them both, so he was quick to reach for them in a sudden rush which concluded with him wrapping his arms around their shoulders, both of them shrieking in panic at the sudden attack. The intent was clear, but the damage was already done when the sudden development saw them both slam their faces on his shoulders and get a proper 'face-bath' with the tomato sauce there.

"B-Bwah! W-Wait no! Please- it was senpai's idea!"

"K-Kohai, you traitor!" Koneko replied sternly and with fake outrage. "She- She was the one with the idea of replacing water with tomato sauce."

"Aw, then that means you're equally guilty," Hoitsu rebuffed. "I guess that means you both get this tight and nice hug."

That day Kunou learned many things. Friendship is precious, her Niichan was no fool and would retaliate to pranks, and tomato sauce was incredibly difficult to remove from her fluffy tail and it took hours to get that bit cleaned. For the rest, it was all fun… except for the fact that without them realizing, the two had started a lengthy prank war with their surrogate older sibling. For Hoitsu wasn't satisfied with just that counter.

And those were definitely going to be dark days for the two silly girls.
