Let's start with the story, shall we?*

Chapter 39

"Let's go."

Mizuki, who was baffled by what had occurred, was quick to follow him. She was excited to see what the inside of the house looked like. She could feel her fingers prickling, the yearning to design deepening with each passing moment.

Shoto was busy getting his thoughts in line. For a moment, he completely forgot to breathe and even think. What happened? One moment they were freely conversing and the next he was left speechless at the beauty of the scene…

Ah, that must've been it. It was merely the scenery that attracted his attention. Nothing else. It was either that, or he was getting sick. His mouth had felt dry for a moment. Maybe he was coming down with a cold? Strange. He barely ever became sick.

"I'm home."

Shoto slid open the door of the main entrance and started to take off his shoes. MIzuki was behind him, not yet entering the house. She peeked inside, crimson eyes gleaming brightly when she noticed the interior was exactly as she thought it would be.

"Welcome home, Shoto," a feminine voice reached their ears and her figure soon came into view. She had shoulder length white hair, flecked with a few strands of crimson. She had a pair of warm grey eyes, accompanied by a pair of red-framed rectangular glasses.

She wore a white dress shirt, with a plain greyish peach-coloured design, the sleeves rolled up to just below her elbows, along with navy blue jeans. Over all her clothing, she wore a beige coloured apron, tied at the back of her neck.

"Oh, you must be Shoto's friend!" Fuyumi smiled brightly at the ash blonde that hesitated to step inside. "I'm glad that you could make it. Welcome, I'm Fuyumi. Nice to meet you," Fuyumi introduced and Mizuki found herself smiling at the warmth that the female emitted.

"Thank you for having me. I'm Mizuki. Nice to meet you," Mizuki said and bowed lightly as she entered the house. Fuyumi blinked a few times, surprised that Shoto's friend was…a girl? It made her smile widen.

"Um, this is for you," Mizuki handed the female the small bouquet of flowers, Fuyumi's eyes widening. "Thank you for inviting me to dinner," Mizuki murmured softly, a blush covering her cheeks.

"Ah! They're beautiful! Thank you so much, Mizuki-san! I'll get a vase to put them in!" Fuyumi said with a tone filled with excitement. Mizuki found the nervousness subside somewhat and her shoulders relaxed.

"Shoto will show you where to leave your things while I finish up with dinner. Natsu should be here any minute now to join us," Fuyumi said and Shoto grunted. The female walked off and Mizuki changed her shoes.

"You can put your things in my room for the time being. You're welcome to put them in one of the guest rooms too, if you prefer," Shoto told the curious female as she took in all her surroundings with big eyes.

"I'm fine either way. It's just temporarily until I go home. You really don't have to go through all that effort," Mizuki said and Shoto nodded. He then walked on, Mizuki taking in the different rooms, each one labelled.

She was shocked to find that they had a dojo training room in their house. Then again, it was only natural since this was the house of the number two hero. It felt like she stepped in a completely other world.

"You can put your things anywhere you like," Shoto said, sliding open the doors that led to his room. Mizuki was about to thank him before her eyes widened. The tatami floor, mattress resting on the surface, a small table in the middle of the room with a desk and a built-in closet and an air conditioner.

I-It's so traditional and neat. I kind of knew that it would be something like this but seeing it up close is something else, huh? Mizuki thought and sweat dropped. She didn't even want to think about her designing paradise room at the moment. It differed worlds from each other.

Mizuki put down her things, curiosity getting the better of her as she looked around. "So this is the room of the Young Master… You must've felt completely out of place sleeping at the agency with those bunkers," Mizuki said and Shoto cocked his head to the side.

Young Master…?

"There are Japanese rooms with tatami flooring. I slept in one of those. Anything else except tatami makes me feel uncomfortable," Shoto replied and Mizuki blinked. They actually had Japanese style rooms at the agency's dorms? Of course they did…

Mizuki chuckled and rested her hands on her hips. "I guess even you have preferences, huh?" Mizuki glanced back at the male. "With all this traditional décor I feel inspired to design something!" Mizuki said and then snickered.

"You can-""Shoto! Mizuki-san! Dinner's nearly ready!" Fuyumi called the two teenagers from the hallway. Mizuki could smell the wonderful aroma coming from the kitchen, her stomach growling softly.

"Let's go eat, shall we?" Mizuki suggested and Shoto nodded. She followed him out of his room, closing the door behind them before they walked on. He had a peculiar feeling residing in his chest as he walked beside Mizuki, a small smile making its way to his lips.

"Dinner is served!" Fuyumi announced with a bright smile, Mizuki's eyes sparkling at the variety that was laid out for them on the table. It was clear that the female went all out with dinner and she couldn't wait to have a bite.

"It's looks and smells amazing!" Mizuki exclaimed and then gave Shoto a half dry look. "It must be nice to have a sister that's a master chef in the house." Shoto blinked a few times and then nodded, returning his gaze towards the table.

"Yeah."

"I-I'm not a master chef. Far from it! I merely enjoy cooking and baking, that's all," Fuyumi said, her cheeks tinted lightly form the compliment. "What about you, Mizuki-san? Do you like cooking or baking?"

"Me? Ha! I'm terrible at it!" Mizuki laughed, the female sweat dropping and Shoto giving her a blank look. "I can only cook a few plain, easy meals. My brother is the pro when it comes to the kitchen. He usually loses his temper when I cook and take over," Mizuki replied.

"Bakugou can cook? That's unexpected…" Shoto said, his tone of surprise. It was unexpected to find that Mizuki was bad at something. Everything she did was always done to perfection. Then again, she was human too, right?

"Sorry if I'm overstepping but isn't your other brother joining us for dinner?" Mizuki asked as she went to sit down, Shoto joined her side as he glanced at his sister. Fuyumi put a large bowel in the middle of the table and sighed.

"It seems like he's going to be late. He let me know we should start without him," Fuyumi said and her face then showed a tinge of annoyance. "Sorry about that. Since he's gone to university, he's lost track of time."

"Don't worry about it. I get having a younger brother can sometimes be a bit frustrating," Mizuki gently told the female who seemed to be in distress. Fuyumi gave her a shocked look as she sat down.

"Mizuki-san, you have a younger brother?"

"We're twins, actually, but I was born before he was. It might've been only a little time that differed but he still drives me out of the walls," Mizuki answered and Fuyumi giggled lightly, briefly glancing at Shoto who was staring at the food.

"Well then, let's eat!" Fuyumi announced, knowing the gleam of hunger in her brother's eyes too well. Mizuki swallowed thickly as she stared at the meal, her eyes finding the sliced pieces of miso steak first.

"Thank you for the meal!"

Mizuki took a bite out of her rice, the texture fluffy and soft as she chewed. She then took a bite out of the fried vegetables followed by protein. She was in absolute heaven at each taste that exploded from her mouth.

I'm blessed to be alive! She thought happily and smiled brightly at Fuyumi. "It's delicious! Thank you for all your hard work," Mizuki said and Fuyumi giggled with a nod. She was relieved that Mizuki was satisfied.

Shoto told her that Mizuki had no preferences and that she ate anything, yet she still wanted to prepare something good. Shoto was also content, eating his soba that was served cold in a small basket, just how he liked it.

"I-I'm home!" A male voice echoed throughout the house, three pair of eyes traveling towards a white-haired male as he nearly stumbled over his own two feet. "Sorry I'm late, Sis, Shoto!" He apologized, a guilty smile plastered on his face.

Natsu was tall and had a muscular build. Much like his sister, he had spiky white hair with two short strands hanging down the side of his forehead. His eyes resembled Fuyumi's, the warm grey orbs familiar.

"Natsu, don't be rude to our guest."

"Ah, sorry!" He apologized, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "I'm Natsu. Nice to meet you…um…" He found his words failing him when he took in the appearance of the person who sat next to Shoto.

A girl?!

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Mizuki," Mizuki introduced herself and Natsu nodded, with a dazed smile. He looked at his sister, the female catching his raging thoughts. Mizuki observed the siblings amazed that they could communicate merely through gaze.

Natsu was internally freaking out over the fact that Shoto's friend, was a girl. Not only had he never brought friends home but girls were never even mentioned. Fuyumi was calm and collected, her eyes telling him to do the same and not overreact. He then nodded and went to sit down next to her.

"So, Mizuki, right?" The ash blonde female nodded. "Shoto said that you're in the same class. How did you come to know each other?" Natsu asked, receiving a kick in his shin. He bit his bottom lip tightly, his sister's glare making him pale.

"We fought against each other at Hero Basic Training." Mizuki smirked and pointed at the duo hair coloured male. "He broke my nose and I bruised his ego. It's was thrilling," Mizuki said with a chuckle, the two siblings turning white.

"You bruised my forehead too," Shoto added and Mizuki laughed. She forgot about that. She patted him on his back, the male eating despite her actions. Natsu and Fuyumi stared at the scene, dumbstruck.

"I-I see…" Fuyumi said, her smile never fading from her face. She watched the sports festival and was aware of the girl's strength. She overpowered her opponents using her Quirk and agile fighting style and nearly blew up the entire stadium.

Shoto watched as Mizuki take a bite of her meat, his heterochromatic eyes catching sight of spiky ash blonde hair hanging down her neck. He reached out towards the spiky hair, fingers trailing over the softness.

"Your hair has gotten longer," Shoto said, his brother and sister staring at them with looks filled with disbelief. They had no idea what was happening or what was going on in their younger brother's thoughts.

"You think so?" Mizuki mused after swallowing and touched her hair, feeling the length. "I haven't really noticed it that much even during the training." She was completely oblivious as to how the scene looked.

"I can cut it for you if you want."

"Hah? You, Mister Can't-even-file-documents-right, wants to cut my hair? Yeah, right! I won't even trust you with a paper scissor," Mizuki pointed out, her words stabbing the male in the chest. She had a sharp tongue.

What's with this atmosphere? They're like an old married couple! Natsu thought alongside his sister who was merely smiling. They were friends, right? Right? He didn't miss anything, right? Was this how friends interacted? Since when did Shoto become this social interactive?

"It can't be that hard."

"You're kidding! You haven't even done it before and yet you're offering your help? If you mess up my hair, I will blow your ass up," Mizuki told the male, making the siblings sweat drop. She was quite bold, wasn't she?

"If you don't mind, Mizuki-san, I can cut it for you," Fuyumi offered with a kind smile. "I usually help Shoto and Natsu with their hair." Mizuki took in the neatness of their hair and then touched the spikes that grew out.

A fond smile came onto her lips. "I appreciate the gesture, but I think I'm going to grow it out. It was a pain to have long hair. However, I find that I actually miss it," Mizuki said and Fuyumi nodded in understanding.

I have to break free. I need to grow on my own so that I don't have to stand behind my brother anymore. I have to become the best me so that I can stand beside him. Mizuki thought, a gleam of determination passing through her eyes.

They finished the meal not long after, conversing occasionally and learned to know the young female. They were still uncertain about many things regarding the duo's relationship. The most important thing that they knew, was that she was Shoto's friend.

"I'll help you with the dishes, Fuyumi," Mizuki offered as she took two of the trays and stood up. Fuyumi's eyes widened along with the rest and Mizuki chuckled. "I insist. After all, you put in all that effort in the meal. It's the least I can do."

"Mizuki-san… Thank you, I'd like that," Fuyumi said and Mizuki smirked. She helped take the dishes towards the kitchen, the two males also helping with cleaning the table. The two females occupied themselves in the kitchen and left the two males alone.

"So… Shoto… You said she's your friend… Is there anything else going on between you two?" Natsu asked, not hesitating a single moment to confront his younger brother. He eyes the younger male from the corner of his eyes, Shoto shaking his head.

"No. Mizuki's only a friend…" Shoto replied and Natsu nodded slowly. "Also, she has someone she likes." The added statement had Natsu briefly stop with cleaning. He looked at his younger brother, a small smile forming on his lips that didn't reach his eyes.

"I see…"

Mizuki helped rinse off the dishes before she put a few away in the dishwasher. Fuyumi, on the other hand, was cleaning up the counters and put away the other clean dishes. The atmosphere was comfortable and calming.

Mizuki felt a vibration from her phone as she packed away the last of the dishes. She closed the door of the dishwasher and then pocketed her hand to pull out her phone. She unlocked the screen, the message of her friend popping up.

"We need to talk ASAP." - BoysAreLifeAkira

"Mizuki-san, I'm brewing some green tea. Can I make a bit extra for you to drink before you head home?" Fuyumi asked, glancing over her shoulder. She noticed Mizuki's serious facial expression, crimson eyes soon looking at her.

"That would be nice, thank you. Can I borrow your restroom for a minute?" Mizuki asked and Fuyumi nodded. She watched as Mizuki walk off, forgetting to asked if she knew where the bathroom was.

"Where's Mizuki?" Natsu asked as he stepped inside the kitchen with a pair of empty trays. Shoto was next to him, looking around for the ash blonde female. Fuyumi frowned lightly and rested her hand palm against her cheek.

"She went to the restroom." Fuyumi's eyes showed a hint of concern. "She seemed to see something on her phone. I wonder if she's alright…" Fuyumi trailed off and Shoto stared at the hallway that led towards the restroom.

"She'll be fine. It's probably a message from one of her friends," Shoto assured his siblings and put down the items he held. "I'll help you with the tea, Fuyumi." Fuyumi smiled and nodded, Natsu standing on the side.

The restroom…

Mizuki slid the door closed behind her and looked down at her phone. She wondered what was going on. Surely Akira didn't know she was at Shoto's house. The thought had her turn blue beneath her eyes. She was as good as dead if she found out!

Yet, she had a feeling that it was something else entirely. The message was short and alarming. Akira would've written something more threatening and warning-like if she found Mizuki out. Knowing that her thoughts weren't going to help her at all, she dialled her friend.

"Sorry for the sudden message and for disturbing you, Mizuki. I know that you're probably exhausted from your internship," Akira's voice reached her ear. She was quick to pick up the phone, much faster than Mizuki anticipated.

"Nah, It's alright. What's up? Did something happen?" Mizuki asked, keeping her voice calm as she stood against the door. She had to believe that everything was alright and she didn't want to come forth alerted, just encase anyone passed the restroom.

"It's about the missing persons case. There's a possibility that it's connected to the Nomu things that keep appearing." Mizuki's eyes widened. "So far all the missing persons were criminals, no-good nobodies with useless Quirks," Akira said.

"I'm relieved to know they're not targeting students but they're still people. What does that have to do with the Nomu's?" Mizuki asked, a part of her regretting the question the moment it left her mouth.

"The Nomu's that appeared were all previously criminals. There was one thing that kept bothering me so I went to do some research and found very disturbing facts. All these Nomu's were derived from corpses," Akira said and Mizuki's hand shot to her mouth to stop her gasp.

What?

"Nomu are basically modified corpses that have multiple Quirks. They previously only had one, but those things that attacked you, had more than one. They've been categorized into low-tier, high-tier according to their strengths. The pale ones, low tier and the black ones, high-tier," Akira said.

"W-W-wait. Hold on a second. This is a bit… How did you even get this kind of information? Isn't it supposed to be confidential?" Mizuki asked, her mind in a whirl. Unease washed in waves over her and a trail of sweat cascaded down the side of her face.

"Uncle was busy with the research and I offered to help. He declined so I had to go and do my own investigation. I don't want to be kept in the dark, especially when things are happening around my school and with my friends," Akira replied, her tone strained.

"Akira…" The dark-haired female had been piling up all this worry. Mizuki inhaled shakily, brows furrowing and a frown forming on her lips. "Do you think that the League of Villains is behind this missing person thing?" Mizuki asked.

"Probably. The problem is that no one can say that for sure and since they're criminals, no one would bat an eye to tell the police if they saw them vanishing. Less criminals meant less problems, right? This society is really sick," Akira scowled angrily.

"That's terrible…"

"That's only half of what I wanted to tell you." Mizuki blinked. "I told you that the criminals only had one Quirk initially and as soon as they're modified, they have multiple. Meaning that there's being 'given' these Quirks, so to speak," Akira continued.

Mizuki didn't like where this conversation was going. She could feel anxiety from the pit of her stomach, the coolness of her skin making her feel nauseous. Her grip on the phone tightened as she listened.

"This only started to become a problem to the public not long ago which makes me rethink what I told you. You said that Izuku suddenly had a Quirk all of the sudden, a power Quirk that didn't match any of his parent's descriptions," Akira recalled and Mizuki felt her heart fall into her stomach.

"There's only one thing that I can conclude from this. There's someone out there who's able to give Quirks and there's no doubt that Izuku was one of those who was on the receiving end," Akira concluded and Mizuki froze.

"N-No… N-No… There's no way… There's no way that he's involved in all of this! I know him better than anyone. He won't ever become a part of this villainous acting!" Mizuki denied all her negative thoughts.

"Mizuki… Look, I've done the research and I've connected the dots. Even if he isn't part of this all, he's still a victim. There had to be someone who he came in contact with before he got his Quirk," Akira stated calmly.

"That's-" Mizuki's eyes widened as a familiar blonde, scruffy haired male popped in her thoughts. There was someone. Someone she didn't know at all and that suddenly came into Izuku's life before anyone knew it.

Toshinori…Yagi…

"…t-t-this is my…um…personal trainer… H-He's been helping me train so I can be ready for U.A's entrance exam…!"

"K-Kacchan… Someone told me… 'You can become a hero'. That it was because of my own effort… T-That's why… I'm going…!"

Everything around Mizuki broke into shards, her legs giving in as she sank to the ground. She could barely breathe as realization dawned upon her. Her body trembled and her crimson eyes were quivering.

"Mizuki? You still there? Hello?"

Toshinori Yagi was his supposed personal trainer. After he came into his life, he had buffed up and appeared with a Quirk. He was even a part of U.A. as he sat in the teacher's lounge at the sports festival.

Is he the traitor? Was he the one who gave our information out when we went to U.A? Was he the one who let the press in? She thought and horror filled her. It meant that Izuku was in danger without knowing it.

"H-Hey, are you alright? I can hear your breathing but I'm not hearing you talking," Akira asked worriedly. "I'm sorry if I upset you. I can all be a wild goose chase. It can be that if there was one person who can give that there was more out there. It can be that he received it from someone completely different. The main thing is that he definitely received it."

"I…I…" Mizuki was too confused. The thought of Izuku being part of something evil was too much for her to take in. Had she been fooled by the older blonde? No, surely, she wasn't that gullible. Surely, she would've noticed.

"…I say anything that comes to mind. Your Quirk is a lot like All Might's…"
"…All Might has his eye on you, doesn't he?"
"…Young Midoriya…"

Something clicked in Mizuki's head, the fog in her head clearing up. There was some kind of connection between All Might and Toshinori Yagi. They both arrived here the same time Izuku became training and acting weird. They both talked the same way and for some reason, Izuku was the centre of both of their attentions.

"Akira… Call me crazy, but I think I know who was the one to give Izu-kun his powers. Or I have one out of two possibilities…" Mizuki trailed off, a headache starting to form in her head from all the excessive thinking.

"You do? How? Who is it?" Akira asked, her attention full blown towards Mizuki. Mizuki's eyes stared at the ground, trying to get her thoughts in order. She took a breath and was about to reply, only to stop herself from doing so.

"…I can see that you've got a lot you want to say. For some reason your keeping it to yourself. I'm not going to push you. When you're ready, you can tell me. We're best friends. Don't forget that…"

"…I know that you're hiding something from me. My advice to you is to maybe to do a better job in keeping it a secret before I find out. That would be disastrous, wouldn't it?"

There was a reason why he didn't tell her and it had something to do with the connection between Toshinori Yagi, All Might and the unknown power Quirk. She trusted Izuku and she trusted his judgement. The only person she didn't trust, was Toshinori Yagi.

"…Maybe showing you today rather than telling you was his way of saying, 'Look at me, Mi-chan. I finally made it'…"

"No, it's a dead end. I'll be on the lookout and let you know if I find anything. It's going to be difficult with Izu-kun keeping everything a secret. Thank you for telling me," Mizuki told the female, a shadow falling over her eyes.

"I don't want you to be caught off guard or be put in unnecessary danger. Please stay safe," Akira said and MIzuki nodded with a small smile. She lay her head against the door, crimson eyes staring at the ceiling.

"Same there. I'll talk to you guys tomorrow, okay?" Mizuki said and heard a reply from Akira. They said their goodbyes, the ash blonde female letting out a breath she didn't know she held. She wanted to melt into the floor, her heart giving a tight squeeze.

What did you get yourself into, Izu-kun? Mizuki wondered, ruffling her hair roughly. She needed answers, now more than ever. She would find out if Izuku was in danger by going right to the source. After all, Izuku wasn't going to tell her anyway.

There was a faint knock on the door. "Um, Mizuki-san, are you alright?" Fuyumi asked from the other side. She leaned into the door, waiting for a reply. The ash blonde female had been gone for a while, worrying everyone.

The door slid open with a sudden whoosh and revealed a smirking ash blonde. "Never better!" Mizuki said and waved her phone. "It's only my delinquent brother that was pestering me to come home. Nothing new."

Fuyumi sweat dropped. "I'm glad you're alright then. I made some green tea for you before you go," she offered and Mizuki nodded. She pocketed her phone, closing the door of the restroom behind her.

"You were gone for quite a while…"

"Yeah, he has a lot of cooped up issues that he needed to get out of his system. His internship didn't go all that good and he's been in a bad mood ever since. Though, he can wait for me to get home. Geez, he never gives his sister a break, huh?"

"You two sound very close. As expected from twins. I take it he's also in the hero course since he went to an internship," Fuyumi pointed out and Mizuki nodded. She chuckled at the thought of her brother.

"He's the delinquent of class 1-A." Fuyumi's eyes widened, Mizuki stepping into the living room where two boys were sitting. "Sorry for taking so long. I had some brotherly issues to sort out," Mizuki said and Shoto blinked.

"Bakugou?"

Mizuki let out a sigh, her shoulders slumping with a nod. "That's the one. You see, he's at that very special age when a boy only has one thing on his mind," Mizuki said as she sat down on the couch, right next to Shoto.

"Ah, girls?"

"Nope. Homicide," Mizuki replied, the siblings turning white at her words. That wasn't healthy and it wasn't normal either. However, it didn't faze their younger brother, giving them the impression that it was indeed alright.

"Here." Shoto handed her a cup of tea and Mizuki gave him a grateful smile. "Let me know if you prefer something to be added," he said, watching as Mizuki blew the steam of the tea. She took a small sip and sighed.

"It's perfect, thank you."

Shoto returned the small smile and then took his own tea. The evening turned out better than he expected. She wasn't nearly as explosive as usual and her presence made him feel content. He would even say that it was enjoyable.

Mizuki drank her tea half in thought. She mentally apologized towards her brother for using him as an excuse. She would experience the wrath later on. She didn't want to share anything she learned about in the restroom with anyone. Not even Katsuki.

If he heard that there was a certain connection between Izuku and All Might, and that there was a possibility that Izuku's Quirk… He would lose it completely. It was her duty to keep an eye on the male's emotional state and if she could keep it stable, then she would bear the burden of carrying any secret.

"Thank you for everything," Mizuki bowed as she stood in front of the door, backpack slung around her shoulders and silver case in her hand. "I enjoyed meeting both of you," Mizuki told Natsu and Fuyumi.

"Same here!"

"It was nice to meet you too, Mizuki-san." Fuyumi put a hand on Shoto's shoulder and her expression softened. "Thank you for being his friend. I hope that he doesn't give you too much trouble," Fuyumi said, Mizuki chuckling at Shoto's slight annoyance.

"Nothing I can't handle!" Mizuki replied, a big grin plastered on her lips. The two siblings nodded, understanding that she was much more to handle than their younger brother. They glanced at each other and then looked back at Mizuki.

"Are you sure that we shouldn't walk you to the station? It's already dark and all," Natsu offered the young female. Mizuki turned towards the sky, crimson eyes staring up at the lovely night sky that peeked through a puff of clouds.

"Nah, I'll be just fine. Besides, I like walking to freshen up my mind." She then smirked and made a fist, sparks appearing on her skin. "If anyone looks for trouble, I'll blow them up," she said and had them sweat drop.

"Let me know when you're safe at home. I'll see you at school, Mizuki," Shoto said and Mizuki nodded. He had made sure that she had his number long beforehand if she needed something during the internship.

"I'll see you around school, Shoto. Have a nice night," Mizuki waved, walking down the pathway that led towards the gate. Shoto was baffled, staring at her with wide eyes. His siblings noticed his expression and raised an eyebrow.

"What's wrong?"
"She called me by my name."

"Huh? And there's something wrong about that?" Fuyumi asked, confused as to why her brother was shocked. He called her by her first name and had her assume that Mizuki did the same. Then again, Mizuki hadn't called him by either of those during the dinner.

"She usually calls me 'Ice Bastard'."
"You two have a weird relationship."
