Disclaimer: I do not own The Vampire Diaries / The Originals, or any of the characters, plot-lines, dialogues from the shows or books
However, I do own Catherine Matthews/ my very own Katherine Peirce, her backstory, the storyline, and any additional characters that do not belong to The Vampire Diaries or The Originals. Characters in this story may not have the same opinion as you. These characters are all fictional.
Catherine Matthews questioned her life choices quite often than not. Especially with the new type of acquaintances she's been making, it seemed like an everyday thing. "—and that got me thinking, what would a drunk butterfly do?"
"—Kai," the vampire interjected, withheld a sigh as she closes her eyes. "You are straying too far from the topic," she reminds him, striving to be as calm as humanly/vampirely as possible. "Can you come back to the part where you took the stolen car to Portland after accidentally killing the unfortunate person who gave you a lift?"
"That's exactly what I was going to say before you rudely interrupted me," The siphoner sounded so exasperated that all the vampire wanted to do was hurl her phone to a goddamn wall and scream at herself for even caring to hear the ramblings of a sociopath. Instead, she clicked her tongue and stayed tight-lipped as she listened to him talk about what he is planning to do with his soon-to-be-dead father, and by extension, the whole family due to the dominos effect of the Gemini Coven. Once the leader falls, all the others will follow.
"The guy gets on my damn nerves more than you family ever will manage to do," Katherine admitted tossing her phone on the couch as she sits on the love couch facing Kol with a cup of bloody coffee Eve made for her.
"Is that why you gave him a vial of your blood then?" The original drawled with a low hum, eyes on the TV screen as his fingers rapidly worked on the game controller.
Her shoulders lift in a half-shrug at his sarcastic remark, looking unapologetic as she moves the cup away from her mouth after taking a sip from it. "What's the point in revenge if he were to die along with his godforsaken family? That's such a bummer. I mean, can you think of anything pathetic than that," A thoughtful look crosses her face as she continues. "Also, he can be super helpful with our little quest in beating Silas once and for all."
"—If he were to come back, that is," Kol intervened unhelpfully, causing the younger vampire to scowl at him, unimpressed.
"I have faith in our new abettor," Katherine spoke with conviction."And it's not like Kai will have anything important to do after he gets his revenge. I am sure he will be interested in our latest quest to vanquish an immortal evil wizard like Voldemort, albeit a more handsome one, but still, you get the point," She tries to explain, whirling her arms as she spoke.
Kol halted in his moments for a solid minute, and the brief moment of distraction caused his player to die. While Katherine cursed the guy who shot at him, Kol, however, flickered his eyes to her figure. "How do you know that?" He asked.
"What?" Katherine blinked, averting her gaze off the TV screen and back to the original. She had been busy staring at the game that she didn't hear his question.
"How do you know," Kol repeated, his hands falling to his lap, "—that Silas is handsome?"
Katherine looks at him dead in the eye, propping her chin on her knuckles. "You see a chick like me fighting over an ugly ass man with an all-powerful Bennett witch, like Tessa?" She asks seriously, pointing a finger to her face.
Kol stared at the brunette with the same expression. "Love is blind, darling."
"Then, thank the heavens I am not."
"Are you both at it again?" An exasperated voice interrupted the little spat before they could be at each other's throat, no doubt. The two vampires have turned a little competitive, even for things as silly as the last slice of pizza. "It's literally 8 in the morning."
A slow smirk broke on Katherine's face at the sight of the young wolf. The brunette vampire leaned back on her couch regarding the wolf with a teasing lilt in her tone. "Looks like somebody's date with a fellow alpha went better than expected."
Katherine was kind of glad Kai could help out with the curse without any consequences that would dwindle her alliance with the former bayou wolves. She knew there is still a chance the whole thing would be a futile effort, or at worst, Kai could possibly kill the wolf he is siphoning from by taking too much magic. Thankfully, none of it happened, and the wolves who still had families in New Orleans went on a road trip in hopes of shifting their whole livelihood to Georgia and start a new life under the new leadership now that they were free from the curse.
Hayley Marshall crossed her arms over her chest, returning the mocking smile, a flush creeping up her cheeks, embarrassed both vampires heard her late-night activities. "At least I am getting some," she said, trying to look nonchalant. "—that's better than what I can say for some people." Katherine gave her the finger, the deadpanned expression back in place. "Seriously though, when was the last time you got laid and gave rest to the working the Machiavelli brain of yours, trying to take on the world."
"A couple of months," She admitted, her face twists as she thinks back, looking unbothered. "—there was this cute bartender in Hawaii who made some amazing cocktails." A smirk grows on her features. "He is pretty delicious too. AB-ve."
"Ew," Hayley makes a face at that, still clad in one Jackson Kenner's shirt that fell just above her knees as Kol makes a sound at the perception of the taste.
The sound of the iPhone ringtone interrupted their daily dose of bickering. "Fucking finally," Katherine mutters under her breath when she sees the caller id. She presses the phone against her ears as she abandons the coffee cup on the tabletop, answering the call. "I was beginning to wonder if you have forgotten all about little ol' me," she says into the receiver as a way of greeting.
"Of course not, love," Lucien Castle's chuckle comes from his end of the call. "I don't just forget my business deals. And definitely not when they are made with a pretty lady such as yourself."
"Charming," She commented in a bland sort-of tone. But soon, her expression turned serious as she inquired, "Did you find her?"
"Why, yes," he says, pleased with himself, and Katherine blows some air out of her cheeks, and her hands form into fists, pumping them in the air in victory. "Like I always say, I keep my end of the bargain, be it business or payback. Now, where do I need my men to deliver the precious cargo?"
"Ok, um, wait," she says, snapping her fingers to maintain the calm and think carefully. She didn't really figure out what to do with Nadia other than making her an ally, knowing the girl would do anything for her mother, and by extension to her, in whose body she was currently in. "First, is she safe? Did you like knock her out or something. Does she know where she is going? Is there a chance she will try to run halfway through the journey and disappear off the face of the earth because your people didn't give her the complete information?"
"Relax," he says before she could go any further. "You really sound like a mother now," Lucien drawls in a nasal tone. "Your daughter's fine. She is coming to you willingly, along with her boyfriend. Now once you give me a location, I will have someone drop her off, and you can enjoy the tedious activities like thanksgiving or homecoming."
"Right, fine. The destination will be Mystic Falls, Virginia," Katherine says, deciding at last.
"You really want her in a town full of Originals?" His tone turned skeptic.
"I have some allies in the town too," Katherine wayed off his worries, looking supremely unbothered, other than the mild anxiety that seemed to seep into her bones at the mere thought of welcoming a 500-year-old Katherine Pierce's daughter, whom she's supposedly a mother figure to. Like, come on, she is fucking 19, for godsakes. How is she supposed to act as a mother to a grown-arse ancient woman? Seducing, she can do that any day. But babying, not so much.
"You found her?" Hayley threw her arms around the brunette's neck with a happy squeal once she's done with the call. While Kol had a disgusting scowl etched on his face. "Why are you talking to Lucien bloody Castle?"
"Well, he is helping her in finding her daughter, of course," Hayley beats to it, facing the original before Katherine could utter a word. She then turns to look at the younger vampire, a grin unfurling on her face. "I am so happy for you. You finally get to meet Nadia."
"Who won a lottery?" Jackson and Eve come to the living room, smiles on their faces as she took in Hayley's cheery expression. "Katherine found her long-lost daughter. They are gonna meet by this time tomorrow," she answers them, her arms coming to hold the doppelganger by her shoulder. Her grin, however, flatters when she observes Katherine's expression. "—Why do you have that constipated look on your face? Are you...not happy?" Hayley questions hesitantly, dropping her hands off the vampire's shoulder.
"I am?" She says slowly, making it sound like a question than a statement. Her mouth twists a second later. "I don't think I can do this," she realizes finally. "I can't," her voice raises as with each word, conviction in her tone. "I can't be a mother to some kid...a woman I have never met in my life. I am nineteen."
"You are five hundred," Hayley retorts.
"I am nineteen," Katherine says, disagreeing. "I think this is a mistake," she contemplates, shaking her head. "I should've just stopped looking for her and stayed out of her life. We will both be better off without this new awkward relationship in our lives."
She really should've stopped. There was no need to involve Nadia in her plans. She doesn't really need the young Bulgarian vampire other than securing her as an easy ally. The mother-daughter connection had too many complications. It's not like a former boyfriend or a scorned lover relationship. And also, Nadia had been a backup plan since the very start, in case she couldn't manipulate the feelings of the people who hated her guts.
And that's not the case right now.
She was not the same Catherine Matthews who first came to the fictional universe and saw people as nothing more than characters that she can manipulate for her own gain. This Catherine was someone who found love once again, who gained friends she came to love, found a dysfunctional family all on her own that she could be a part of. This Katherine understood emotions. She knows what it is like to vie for a mother's love. Catherine knows it first hand. And she knows that she is far too selfish and twisted to possess that kind of love for someone.
A hand comes to grip at her shoulders, putting a stop to the wild thoughts that ran amok through her mind. "You need to calm the fuck down," Hayley said, coming into her face and holding her gaze. "You are spiraling out and thinking too much about this."
"Really? Then why don't you get a little bun in your hybrid oven and then tell me you aren't thinking much about it," Katherine spoke sarcastically, earning an unimpressed stare from the Labonair wolf.
"Very funny," she deadpans, "But what I am trying to say is, Nadia is not a little bun as you eloquently put it. She is around 500. You don't need to bottle feed her or anything. You just need to be there for her ...I guess, like a friend or a sister. It doesn't have to be much. Just see her as another Caroline, and that will be more than enough."
"You can't be sure about that," Katherine argued.
A tired sigh leaves Hayley's lips. "Trust me, I am. Because that was all I ever wished from my parents, and if I had received it, I would have thought the world of them, no question." A smile played on the wolf's lips a moment later. "And I know you better than you think to know that you won't screw this up," a pause, and, "—at least not knowingly."
A scoff leaves the vampire's lips at the werewolf's good-natured comment. "Thanks for the pep-talk, wolfie." A woosh of air leaves her lips, a resigned looking settling on her features. "Looks like I have to pack my bags to go back to Mystic Falls then."
"We will come along for a few days," Hayley piped up, looking back to see at Eve and Jackson's expressions to observe if they want to refute her claim. When they didn't object, she turns back to the vampire. "Or, better yet, why didn't you just ask them to bring her here."
Katherine shakes her head. "Lucien can't know there are two lineages of werewolf clans living here. The guy experiments on everyone and anything he could get his hands on, and there no way I am giving you all on a silver platter." Her gaze then flickers to the original vampire in the room. "We also have been gone for quite a long time now. Caroline's taking my ears off about the latest development in Mystic Falls. I think I will show them my face and put them at ease for some time before I go on another adventure."
"Got it. Fine, then. To Mystic Falls, it is."
Miss me?
I am sorry for the boring chapter. I still have to catch up after sending my brain on a vacation for almost two months now. I guess I wanted to kinda show some character development if that's what you want to call it. And someone mentioned, Katherine Pierce started changing into Elena Gilbert somewhere halfway. Do you think so too? Cause I really didn't notice. I mean, It's not like she is Katherine either. She is just this 19year old chick from Australia with trust issues and hella paranoid, and is now making some new friends. Do you think I should go for a rewriting?
Anyway, I hope you have all been good these past few weeks. And, to those who are wondering I have done okay in my exams. I can't really say until I get my results. But hopefully, my updates will be regular now that I am done with my exams. But that doesn't mean you can expect one every couple of days. I have a lot of ongoing stories if you have forgotten.
Alright, bye. Toodles.
