POV: James Potter | September 29th, 1998
James Potter was tired, aggravated, pissed off, and magically frustrated. All because of the fucking Tyrant in James' grip. He was bashing Nemesis' face into the pavement, kneeling on the roof as he repeatedly bashed the monster's head in. James had been using his magic ever since his fight with Nemesis had begun, using it to displace objects around the department into places that he knew Leon and Claire would visit. He had nearly entirely drained the magical ley line going over Raccoon City while he tried his best to not only protect Leon and Claire, but keep down the T-Virus, Progenitor Virus, as well as the NE-a Virus, which was doing everything in its power to return him to his 'Pro-Umbrella' stance and mindset.
He had gained the upper-hand against Nemesis after playing baseball with his face using a metal pipe, throwing Nemesis out of the building and directly onto the metal/spiked fence outside, impaling the creature on said fence. James had proceeded to RKO Nemesis into the ground, before throwing the dog-like B.O.W flying up into the air, with it landing on the roof. James had then jumped up there himself, and now kneeled over Nemesis, legs on either side of Nemesis' thin torso as James slammed his giant fists into the monster's ugly face. Grabbing hold of Nemesis' neck, James pulled back, slamming it down into the cement as the beast let out an ugly scream in pain as it stabbed James in the side.
Letting out his own scream, James pulled back, slamming Nemesis down over and over as the roof began to collapse ever so much. James felt the ley line begin to slowly collapse as he drew magic into his right fist, pulling it back as said fist went from the normal tanned white it had always been, turning bright orange as he built up more energy. After a moment, he slammed it into Nemesis' face. The creature's head slammed into the ground, being the final nail in the coffin as the ground beneath them suddenly collapsed, the two falling through as James realized. They had been above the Main Hall, and were now falling directly over Marvin's workstation. Everything happened in slow motion as James spotted Leon and Claire on the steps, Marvin facing them from his work station.
Leon was injured in the leg, limping. And Claire had his arm around her shoulders, keeping Leon stable as the two's eyes suddenly shot up at the ceiling's collapse. Leon turned to Marvin - who had looked up - and screamed. "LOOK OUT!" Summoning more power, James sent a banishing spell at Marvin and Nemesis, sending Marvin flying west directly into Leon's waiting arms, and Nemesis to the east wall away from the others. James himself slammed into the ground on his injured side, letting out a groan in pain as Claire ran to his side. "Hey. Hey, are you ok?" She asked, pressing a hand on the wound in his abdomen as he gritted his teeth, giving her a painful nod as he turned to find that Nemesis was changing...again. It had gone through the base form, flamethrower form, the dog-form, and was now turning into something...terrible. Something James didn't think he could fight in his current condition.
"The medallion. Did you get it?" James asked Claire, who nodded. She pulled it out of the pouch he had given her that was attached to her belt, revealing that she did indeed have the medallion. She tossed it to Leon, who grabbed it and stuck it in the middle slot. The statue accepted it, and the bars and base of the statue lowered to allow them in. James slowly got up with the help of Claire, turning to see that Nemesis had reverted/progressed in terms of form. He was now bigger than James, had larger claws, was standing on two legs again instead of four, and had both eyes. It had evolved. And jumping down the balcony was the Tyrant, who strode forward alongside Nemesis as the two set eyes on all four of them.
James was about to speak when a grenade shot forward, slamming into the Tyrant as another slammed into Nemesis. Four more followed, temporarily incapacitating the two Tyrants. James turned his head and spotted Marvin leaning against the wall, Claire's grenade launcher in hand. "GO!" Marvin shouted, firing another at Nemesis. "GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!" Claire didn't ask any questions as she grabbed James' arm, wrapping it around her shoulders as she spun him around and led him through the door. He tried to complain, but a pain shot through his entire body, telling him that he was almost entirely cut off from his magical reservoir, meaning that soon his inner core would be all that was left. Leon ran towards Marvin, exchanging a few words with the man before being pushed towards the door.
The three moved into the room, watching as the elevator they now stood in slowly descended. The last thing all three saw was a tentacle fly out of Nemesis' mouth, stabbing Marvin in the chest as Marvin was pulled directly into Nemesis. Marvin was able to stop himself, pushing his feet against Nemesis' jaw to avoid getting eaten. With his final breath, Marvin launched a grenade into Nemesis' mouth, causing an explosion that encompassed the entire Main Hall. "Goddammit!" Leon shouted, slamming his fist into the desk in anger. "What is going on in this city? How many of those things are out there? And how do you play into all of this besides you being one of those things?" The rookie cop asked, calmness leaking from his voice amidst his obviously confused exclamations.
"I..." James winced in pain, clutching the side that had been stabbed by Nemesis. "I'm one of the seven - huh, goddamn seven - Tyrants currently in Raccoon City. Four are dead, myself, Nemesis, and T-00 are all that's left. As for the city? It'll be blown to hell in two days. The night of October 1st. In that time we need to eliminate the G-Virus -" He hissed in pain, gripping his side tighter as the ley line above Raccoon City collapsed, leaving him with only his core. Claire pulled out a red, green, and blue herb, pressing it into his side as James continued. "- kill the two assholes upstairs...save Jill...and create a vaccine capable of curing any future outbreaks,"
"Ok...G-Virus...Vaccine...Valentine...Nemesis and Mr. X," Leon listed. "In what order?"
"Well...I would prefer if we stayed together, but seeing as there's only two days left and only three of us, I would say we split up to get the most coverage. I-I can't fight either of those things in my current state. The most I can do is carry a gun and hope to stay out of your way until the Ley Line returns to good enough health, so we deal with them when it comes to that time. As for Jill, Carlos is working to save her, so even though that is a priority of mine, it is currently being worked on. And I trust Carlos...he'll get the vaccine in time,"
"And as for the other two? The G-Virus lies in the Laboratory beneath us, accessible through the sewers. If you give me...an hour of rest, I could apparate one of you there to get the last sample and destroy it. If that virus gets in the wrong hands, worse creatures than Nemesis and I will be working for corporations worse than Umbrella," He simplified. Leon nodded in understanding, while Claire was busy spraying down James' somewhat healed wound with First-Aid Spray. "And the T-Virus Vaccine lies in the NEST 2 Facility beneath the hospital where Jill, Carlos, and Tyrell are located. When Jill wakes up, Nemesis will go for her. It's his main objective...and you always finish the objective,"
"Are you...speaking from experience?" Claire asked. James gave her her answer by remaining silently, slowly getting to his feet as he looked around the elevator. They had arrived in the parking garage, where they could gain access to the sewers. Leon got to his feet. "Claire, stay with him. I'm gonna have a look around and see if I can find an entrance into the sewer,"
"You got it," Claire agreed. Leon gave them a nod, before leaving the elevator, leaving James and Claire alone in the elevator. James was standing by the desk, tracing his hand along the wood as he closed his eyes. "My name's not James," He said. It was more to himself than to Claire, but it caught her attention. "I didn't know it until just now...I couldn't remember a lot of things until just now..." Taking a deep breath, his eyes closed even more, taking in the feeling of the wood as she smiled. His broom. It reminded him of his Firebolt...that was why Elza reminded him of himself...they both liked the feel of the wind on their faces...the joy that came from riding in the wind like a bird. He remembered Quidditch...his friends...Sirius. And the cries of his friends and the Order as he fell through the Veil...directly into Umbrella's arms.
"What...is it?" Claire questioned after a minute of silence.
"Harry," Harry whispered. He sighed, unsure of what to do. So much of his memory was still lost to him, and he had just now learned to remember his name. "James was my father...it was familiar to me at the time...and I thought that was it," Harry added. "I'm a wizard...I can do magic. I learned all about it at my school...Hogwarts. I flew a broomstick...it felt just like this table," He turned to Claire, who was watching him with a sad expression. She didn't believe him. "I'm not from around here, Claire. I came here from some...some portal, I think. Some gateway. Because one moment I was under London fighting Death Eaters...and the next I was being kidnapped by Umbrella soldiers,"
"So...the tricks? The pouches? That's...magic?" Claire asked.
"Yeah...yeah," Harry replied with a nod. "I used up most of mine doing all that, and suppressing my mutation. I've only got a bit left until the Ley Lines are repaired, meaning my mutation's got to pick up the slack when it comes to strength, speed, and healing. Until then, I'm stuck with guns. I don't trust myself to change again," Harry explained. If he changed into his mutation form - the nine foot tall beast he had been fighting Nemesis - he risked evolving if injured again. And that was never good. He'd never evolved before, and was afraid of what his second form might be, and how it would hurt the people he cared about. Because Claire, Jill, Leon, and Carlos were those people to Harry now. There was no Hermione...no Ron...no Sirius...not anymore.
"So...ley lines?"
"Magical lines that surround every planet. They enhance life in the area they surround, and in magical cases, enhance their magic. While in my mutation form, I had to draw magic from the ley line above the city in order to keep myself from entering my second form, like Nemesis did back there. I used too much of it, and ended up collapsing the ley line itself," Harry explained. "A million years ago, it would have healed in the span of weeks, but given all the life around this ley line, it should be refilled in the next few hours,"
"So, you'll be back in shape by then?" Claire asked, visibly worried about him.
"I'm fine as we speak, but something on Nemesis' claws seemed to affect my regenerative abilities. Once that passes I'll be one hundred percent. I just can't use my magic," Harry replied. His voice turned sarcastic as he clenched his fist. "Luckily for me though, I have two years of non-stop hand-to-hand combat and weapons training to fall back on,"
"How did Umbrella even find you in the first place?"
"Found me by energy readings, apparently. Don't know much about it, but from what I have heard, Dr. Spencer got odd readings coming from beneath London. Umbrella got the go-ahead by the British government to investigate, and found the other end of the veil. I fell through my end, came out this end," Harry replied. Claire nodded. She seemed to understand to a degree, but like Harry she had no idea how that worked, and what exactly the Veil was. "I'm just worried about my friends back home...we were in a battle when I fell through,"
"Battle? Were you in a war or something?" Claire questioned.
"Yeah...you can say that," Harry replied. "What about you? What were you doing before you selflessly and bravely put yourself on the line to save your brother?"
Claire blushed at the praise, but quickly ducked her head in her response. "I didn't do much outside of school. I was either going to class, studying, or spending time with either Elza or Chris. With Chris I was training, and with Elza...well, we watched movies, built bikes, raced each other a few times, though I never got into the racing thing like she did. Joined the team and everything," Claire explained. "I was relaxing in Denver when Chris went missing, and when a month went by with no contact, I decided to come here to see for myself. Turns out he got out of here at the perfect time,"
"That he did," Harry said in agreement. The two stood in silence for a few minutes, with Harry taking a seat against the wall as Claire took a seat at the desk, holding her head in her hand as she watched Harry, who was lost in thought. He was trying to remember. To remember something. Anything that might trigger a memory like the desk had. Harry was drawn out of his thoughts by Claire, who spoke. "So...what's the deal with you and this Jill lady?" Harry grinned, leaning his head back as he looked up at the ceiling.
"Are you jealous, Claire?" He asked.
"What? No," Claire muttered. Harry's grin fell as he turned to face her, lost in thought once more as she looked up at him. Their eyes met and he spoke. "Jill was the first person to see me as a human...not a machine or a weapon. Not since Spencer anyway. She was kind...respectful...willing to trust me when she didn't have to. After that was Carlos...then Tyrell...and now you and Leon," Harry replied. Claire smiled, proving infectious as Harry returned it. She was about to speak when Leon entered the elevator once more, panting heavily as he collapsed onto the floor. Harry shot to his feet while Claire did the same, the two rushing to Leon's side as he let out "Tyrant,"
"You ran into him?" Claire asked.
"He...ran...into me," Leon replied. Harry reached into his cloak, pulling a bottle out of thin air that he uncapped. He grabbed Leon's chin, pulling his head up to look Harry in the eyes before he opened the man's mouth. Harry jammed the bottle into Leon's mouth, forcing the liquid down as Leon gagged and almost threw up while drinking it. Pepper-Up Potion. Disgusting. Harry knew Leon wouldn't drink it willingly. "What the fuck was that?" Leon asked, coughing as the potion did its job. Leon fell back into the wall, sliding down until he was sitting.
"Pepperup Potion. Helps with the lack of energy," Harry replied. "You were saying?"
"Yeah...I...I found the entrance to the sewers. It's past the parking garage gate to the right. But we need a keycard. I was able to find it, but it now resides on the corpse of a journalist locked up in here by Captain Irons. He was killed by the Tyrant, who then tried to kill me. That was the third time I ran into a woman named 'Ada Wong', an FBI agent. She saved me once from a rabid dog, met me after the journalist was killed, and saved me from the Tyrant by driving a van into him. Though that in no way killed it. The keycard is in the jail, but it needs power, and we've got no power panels,"
"Great...another fetch quest," Claire spoke, getting to her feet.
"Any magical items or powers to spare, James?" Leon asked.
"Harry. His name's Harry," Claire corrected.
"Harry?" Leon asked.
"Just remembered. I got confused. James is my father," Harry explained simply. Leon frowned, but nodded. It made sense after all, amnesia was confusing, even to Harry. "As for your question...I may have something, but for this spell I'll need a focus. Something I can use to channel my magic. My wand was snapped and examined by Umbrella, and any replacements would be lost to this world without widespread magic like where I'm from. I should be able to prepare something..." Harry turned to Claire, and motioned to the S.T.A.R.S knife on her shoulder. She frowned, pulling it out of its sheath before flipping it and handing it to him handle first. Harry grabbed it and frowned. "You two...might want to look away for this,"
Claire didn't hesitate, and spun around to face the wall. Leon however, watched as Harry stabbed himself in the arm, slicing upwards before dropping the knife. He reached into the large opening in his arm, and grabbed hold of one of his veins, he grabbed the knife once more, and carefully cut the vein. He watched as the viruses in his blood kicked in, a new vein growing in its place while the opening in his arm slowly healed. The cut healed slightly as well, with him finishing the job with a First-Aid Can. Harry moved towards the desk, placing the vein on said desk as Leon and Claire moved to either side of him. "You...cut one of your own veins out?" Claire asked incredulously. "What are you going to do with that?"
"I read a long time ago about the creation of wands. I learned that if shop owners were having a hard time getting ingredients for a specific customer, they would go grave robbing the graves of the customers' ancestors and use their bones as magical cores. The same may be true for other body parts. If not...well, I guess a bone will be coming out," Claire shook her head at his explanation, looking away as he cut the vein in half. Leon was clearly disgusted as well, not even bothering to question the potions, wands, and idea of magic at the moment. Harry - Claire's knife in hand - slammed the blade into the table, carving out a block of wood from the desk before giving the knife back to Claire, who didn't look at the vein as she grabbed it and returned it to her sheath.
Harry used a bit of his magic to mold the block of wood around the vein, the leftover chunks falling away to reveal a slim and short wand with a simple design and handle. Harry gripped it tightly, and gave it a swish and flick. The book on the table floated into the air, wobbling slightly but other than that it was fine. It seemed the vein made a good core. Harry knew it was the non-magical wood that was the problem. He turned to the other two. "I can perform an Accio Charm without much trouble, but if I were to get something like this from wherever it is, it's going to be complicated, and I don't have the strength to displace it through space-time,"
"How hard could this 'Accio' thing be?" Leon asked.
"The panels are located behind a plethora of walls and doors. If I just 'Accio'd' it here, it would slam into a wall and break. I've got to magically guide the panel through doors, past obstacles, all the way here," Harry replied in annoyance. He realized he sounded a lot like Hermione, and smiled, before he let out a loud sigh. They were gone...shaking his head, Harry got to his feet once more, pulling his own pouch of his belt before dropping it onto the ground. He got down on one knee, reaching into the bag as he pulled out a large case. Placing it onto the ground in front of him, he unclipped it, revealing an assault rifle broken down into a multitude of parts. The stock, magazine, scope, laser, the barrel, the grenade launcher attachment, and a flashlight attachment.
He began to piece it all together, with Claire grinning. "Got one of those for me in that magical pouch of yours?"
"Nope. But if you ask again in a day or two my answer could change," Harry replied with a matching grin. Leon raised an eyebrow, but seemed to shake it off as Harry loaded the assault rifle with its infinite ammo/armor-piercing ammunition. Pulling out his wand, he flicked it and cast a spell he himself had created a year before. "Cari Power Panel Parts," He had been sent out on several missions for Umbrella to obtain an object/objects, and needed a way to find their location with ease. The 'Point Me' spell was only so effective in some situations. Harry pulled out his expanded map of the Police Department pointing his wand at it as two red dots appeared on the map. One in the basement, the second on the Clock Tower above them...back through the Main Hall.
"The Clock Tower...and the Generator Room. If we want to get out of here as quickly as possible, we're gonna have to split up," Leon told him, to which Harry nodded. He cocked his assault rifle, and moved to speak, only for Leon to cut him off. "I know what you're going to suggest, but I think it would be better if you and Claire went up to the Clock Tower and got that Panel. I need to find this Ada Wong woman, and see what she knows about the T and G Virus and why the FBI wants them. If I find a spare panel, I'll clear the path to the sewers and you two can find me from there,"
"Are you sure?" Harry asked. Leon gave the wizard/bioweapon a nod, before pulling out his pistol. He tried to leave the room only for Harry to grab Leon's shoulder. "I know you don't trust me, Leon, and I get it, but...take this," Harry pointed his wand at a pencil on the desk, and handed it towards Leon, who hesitantly grabbed it. "A portkey. I can only use smaller spells at the moment, and I need to conserve my core, but if you're in a sticky or Tyrant'y situation, say the word 'Portus' and it will bring you back here," Leon smiled, holding up the pencil before storing it into his pocket. "And don't forget those changes of clothes in your pouch. The sewers may hold traces of the virus, and even if it doesn't, you don't want to get sick," Harry explained.
"Thanks, Harry...you two stay safe," Leon replied.
"You too, Leon," Claire called out as Leon moved back out of the room and into the parking garage. Harry turned to her, the map in hand as he sighed. "Looks like we're riding this thing back up into the Nemesis zone," Claire nodded, clearly not liking it either as she reached for her grenade launcher, only to remember Marvin had been using it when he died. Harry reached into his bag, producing an identical grenade launcher that he tossed to a confused Claire. "Never leave base without a backup," Harry said. "It's...it's what my old Captain used to tell his squad back in Umbrella. I protected them from time to time during missions. Last I heard he was on a mission here to retrieve the G-Virus...lost contact with him three days ago,"
"Sorry to hear that," Claire spoke.
"He was an ass," Harry said. "He's the one that brought me to Umbrella in the first place and the one that made me into what I am..." They remained silent after that, watching the door as the elevator rose. It slowed to a stop, opening to reveal that the entire Main Hall was covered in ashes, smoke, and a lot of blood. But there was no Nemesis, no Tyrant, and no Marvin. "You ready, Redfield?" Harry asked, a grin passing over his lips as he held up his rifle. It felt odd holding it like this, especially with the ability to control whether or not he killed someone...it was freeing.
"I was born ready, Potter," Claire replied, a matching grin on her face as the two moved out of the elevator. They had work to do.
