Ellie Bishop: Well, if it wasn't Chase, someone was going to dig up that particular secret. Yep, Roy certainly is. There's actually another reason Slade chose to target Anatoly. You have no idea.
Guest: Glad to hear it. Anatoly will be fine; I have no intention to kill. Once was enough on that front. I try.
Safe house
Late afternoon
"That's…that's…I really don't know what to call that," Felicity admitted after Oliver and Roy had explained the situation to her, Moira, Thea and Sara.
"Slade is trying to frame my father, obviously," Oliver said.
"But why? I thought his vendetta was against you," Thea said confused.
"Slade thinks I'm a monster, so he's trying to convince me that our father was as well," Oliver explained.
"Mrs. Queen, are you okay?" Sara suddenly asked.
Everyone looked towards Moira. She had paled considerably and had clenched her hands into fists so tightly that her finger nails were starting to draw blood. And she had been unusually quiet as Oliver explained the situation, Oliver realized.
"Mom…are you alright?" Thea asked concerned as she approached her mother.
"May I speck with my children privately please?" Moira asked, ignoring Sara and Thea's questions.
"Yeah, yeah sure," Roy said uncertainly, glancing over at Oliver, who gave a subtle nod. "We'll just…be downstairs."
As Roy, Sara and Felicity headed to the new lair, Thea looked uncertainly at Oliver. He could only shrug as he watched Moira turn away from them, biting her lip as she tried to gather her thoughts.
"Mom?" Oliver called out.
"I never wanted you two to know this…but if you're going to find out the truth, it should be from me," Moira said with a heavy sigh as she turned around to face her children. "Seven years ago, a few weeks before that cursed boat trip on the Gambit, your father and I attended a party thrown by Ted Kord. He was…withdrawn the entire night, as though he was somewhere else. When we got home that night, I confronted him about it. And that's how I found out about the Undertaking. Naturally, I was horrified, because it didn't like your father. And that's when he told me his secret shame."
Oliver didn't want to know. He wanted to tell Moira to stop, that he preferred not knowing. Judging from the look on Thea's face, she was in the same boat. But he knew that he needed to know. So he remained silent, listening as Moira continued.
"Many years ago, before the opening of the steel mill, your father was approached by a Councilman in the Glades."
"Councilman Goodwin," Thea said lowly and Moira nodded.
"Your father never told me his name, but it seems likely," Moira said before she continued. "He wanted payment upfront, said that's how things were done in The Glades. They argued and…your father didn't mean to hurt him but…he fell."
"So…this isn't a frame job. Dad really…" Oliver tailed off, both he and Thea looking physically ill.
"Yes," Moira said, looking on the verge of tears. "I'm so sorry…but it's the truth."
The room was silent as Oliver and Thea tried to process this. Then, Oliver's phone rang. Pulling it out, he recognized the number and answered it.
"Yeah…what?...okay, I'll be right there," Oliver said as he hung up, his mother and sister looking over at him.
"Has something happened?" Moira inquired.
"Slade showed up at the Bratva and attacked Anatoly, killed several Bratva. I need to go," Oliver paused uncertainly as he looked at his mother and sister. "Are you two gonna be okay?"
"We're Queen Women. We'll be fine," Thea said with a weak smile.
"Your friend needs you Oliver. Go," Moira told him.
Oliver lingered a moment longer before turning and walking out.
Starling City
Night
Oliver was led by another Bratva into Anatoly's room. Anatoly was lying in a bed, sporting a black eye and his arm in a sling.
"It is worse than looks," Anatoly said as he saw the look on Oliver's face.
"Slade killed your men," Oliver said lowly and Anatoly nodded with a wince.
"Da. And that is not all," Anatoly said and Oliver looked confused. "He was not there to target Bratva. He took it Oliver."
"No," Oliver paled as he remembered Felicity saying Diggle had been looking for something. "That's what John was looking for. Slade must have figured out I gave it to you."
"Pardon me sirs, but what are you talking about?" the Bratva who had brought Oliver in asked confused.
"The Skeleton Key. It's basically a magic key, it can open any electronically locked door," Oliver explained as he and Anatoly exchanged a grim look. "I gave it to the Pakhan for safe keeping when I realized Slade was in town."
"And what could Slade Wilson do with it?" the Bratva asked, not understanding their dread.
"Five years ago, Slade was injected with something called the Mirakuru. Not only did it drive him insane, it gave him super strength and made all weapons virtually useless against him. He has everything he needs to mass produce the serum except one thing: an industrial centrifuge," Oliver explained.
"With Skeleton Key, Wilson just needs to find Centrifuge and take it," Anatoly said grimly before pausing. "May I speak with Oliver privately?"
Understanding it was more of an order than a request, the Bratva nodded before leaving the room.
"There's more, isn't there?" Oliver asked and Anatoly nodded.
"He left me alive for one reason," Anatoly said, digging his uninjured arm into his jacket before pulling something out. "He wanted me to deliver this to you."
As Anatoly handed it to him, Oliver realized it was a flash drive.
"What is this?" Oliver asked as he looked down at it, not sure why he felt such dread in his heart.
"I do not know. But he said to tell you that it proves the kind of man your father truly was," Anatoly said grimly as Oliver looked down at the flash drive, a feeling of unease entering his heart.
Safe house
Same time
In the basement, Felicity was on the computer, looking into Councilman Goodwin. A few feet away, Sara was in the chair, checking her phone before she looked up at Roy as he climbed the salmon ladder. Roy dropped down and picked up a towel, beginning to dry the sweat off him.
"Anything on Goodwin or Slade?" he asked.
"Not yet," Felicity said sadly and Roy sighed.
"I'm getting real tired of these head games Slade is playing with us," Roy grumbled.
"Head games are what he does best. You should know that better than anyone," Sara said as she glanced at the dragon tattoo on Roy's back. "How are you doing?"
"Not great. I feel like I should have known. I mean, for months we were together, she played me for a fool. Not to mention that file," Roy sighed wearily causing both women to look at him in confusion.
"What file?" Sara asked in confusion.
"A few days before Slade showed up at Oliver's house, I found a file on my bed. It revealed what really happened to my dad," Roy admitted.
"You never talk about your dad," Felicity noted and Roy shrugged.
"Not much to talk about. He was in the army, was killed when I was eight from friendly fire. At least that's what I was always told. According to the file, my dad was killed on an op by an unknown sniper. Your dad was able to confirm that it was covered up," Roy said as he glanced over at Sara. "Now I realize that Jade put that file there on Slade's orders. It's all one big mind game to him."
"What's your father's name?" Felicity asked randomly and he looked at her oddly.
"Roy William Harper, Senior," Roy said and she nodded.
"Once we end this whole Goodwin thing, I'll help you find out what really happened," Felicity promised but Roy shook his head.
"Officer Lance and I have been looking into it for weeks and nothing," Roy said miserably.
"You didn't have us helping you," Sara said as she put a hand on his shoulder. "We'll help you figure this out Roy. I promise."
The sound of Felicity's cell phone ringing suddenly pierced the air. Picking it up off the computer desk, Felicity saw it was Oliver and answered it.
"Hey Oliver, still no leads on Goodwin," Felicity apologized.
"Where is the most cutting edge technology housed in Starling City?" Oliver asked, ignoring her greeting.
"What?" Felicity asked confused.
"Slade has the Skeleton Key; he can get into any building in the city without anyone knowing. Where is the most cutting edge technology housed in Starling City?" Oliver repeated with more force.
Star Labs
Not long after
"The combined inventory of every scientist who ever worked at Star Labs, All housed right in here," Cisco Ramon said excitedly as he looked at all the crates. "I hereby christen this building 'da bomb'."
"No one says that anymore," Caitlin Snow said as she looked up from where she sat at a desk.
"I say it," Cisco said defensively. "I define my own cool. I still can't believe Dr. Wells is shutting this place down."
"Star Labs blew a hole in Central City when we turned the particle accelerator on," Caitlin pointed out as she got up and walked over to him. "It's not surprising that Starling City cancelled the lease on this facility. We're not exactly the poster children for 'let us store our unregulated prototypes in your neighborhood'."
"It was an accident," Cisco argued.
"Yeah, well, try telling that to the families of the people who died," Caitlin said blankly.
"Maybe you can figure out how to tell that to yourself," Cisco said gently and she looked over at him tiredly.
"Look Cisco, let's get this inventory done so we can go home."
Cisco nodded but, before they could do anything, they heard a loud thump.
"I thought we were the only ones here," Caitlin said uneasily as they both looked towards the source of the sound.
"Maybe it's one of the security guards," Cisco suggested.
The pair walked around the corner and, as Cisco predicted, found a security guard standing there.
"Oh, hey man. We should be wrapped up any minute now," Cisco said.
The guard did not respond at all. Cisco and Caitlin began to get unnerved by the fact he just stood there.
"Are you getting a bad vibe off this guy?" Cisco asked uncertainly.
Suddenly, the guard coughed up a mouth full of blood, to their shock. He fell to the floor, revealing Slade in his Deathstroke uniform. Terrified, Cisco and Caitlin began running as Slade calmly began walking after them.
"The longer the chase, the slower the kill," Slade said.
Caitlin led Cisco to a restricted area, using her key card to unlock the door.
"Help me," she said as he led Cisco over to a crate and opened it. "This equipment belonged to Arthur Light. Wells fired him two years ago."
"Why?" Cisco asked confused.
"Because he was a psycho. Please tell me you can make this work," Caitlin begged as Cisco looked inside.
Moments later, Slade entered the room, finding Caitlin standing alone.
"Forget what I said. I'll make this quick," Slade promised as he drew his sword.
"Now!" Caitlin cried, jumping out of the way.
Cisco jumped out from behind a crate, wielding a strange looking gun. He fired and a beam of light Slade. Slade went down to his knees, crying out in pain as he was momentarily blind. The weapon sparked in Cisco's hands and he cried out in pain as he dropped it before he and Caitlin fled.
Once his vision was recovered, Slade looked up and saw his target.
Not long after, Oliver pulled up outside the building and saw Cisco and Caitlin run up to the security desk. Oliver swore, realizing he was too late.
Later, Felicity and Roy walked into the building. Seeing Caitlin ad Cisco sitting on the couch, Felicity made a beeline for them.
"Felicity," Cisco said as they got up.
"Cisco, Caitlin, are you guys okay? He didn't hurt you did he?" she asked worriedly.
"You said 'he' twice. Do you know who attacked us? That lunatic with the mask and the sword?" Caitlin asked suspiciously as Felicity realized her blunder.
"No, she doesn't. We talked to an officer who told us," Roy smoothly covered for her as he walked over, holding out a hand to them. "I'm Roy Harper, a member of Oliver Queen's personal security. Do you have any idea what whoever attacked you may have taken? Like an industrial centrifuge?"
"No," Caitlin said to their frustration. "It's a secret."
"What kind of secret?" Felicity asked.
"The kind I have to keep," Caitlin said blankly.
"Well, does Cisco have to keep it to?" Felicity asked hopefully.
"Yes," Caitlin said sharply, cutting off Cisco as he opened his mouth to speak. "He does."
"Okay," Felicity said, giving in. "I'm just so happy you two are oaky. How's Barry doing?"
"He's the same," Caitlin said regretfully.
"We'll keep you updated if anything changes," Cisco promised.
"Well, we're glad your both okay. And we need to go, now," Roy said sharply, looking over at Felicity who nodded.
"Right, we do. It was good seeing you both again," Felicity said as they both walked out.
Safe house
Later
"I hacked into Harrison Wells' personal files, he's the director of Star Labs, and look what I found," Felicity said as she pulled up blueprints for Oliver, Sara and Roy to see. "It's a prototype for one of their new bio-tech projects. The patent is still pending, which is probably why they didn't want to tell us what it was."
"So what is it?" Oliver asked.
It's a bio-transfuser. It can deliver blood from one single patient into multiple patients, at once," Felicity explained.
"Somehow, I don't think Slade wants a blood transfusion," Roy said dryly.
"Because he doesn't. The prisoners that he freed from Iron Heights last week to create his own personal army do," Oliver said as he realized Slade's plan.
"With a few tweaks, Slade can retro-fit it for the Mirakuru, bypassing what we know to be a less than desirable ratio of success to, you know, death. Instead of it metabolizing in the person, it happens in the machine," Felicity explained.
"That's gonna require a lot of blood. Even someone with Slade's stamina can't handle that kind of drain," Sara argued. "I can't see Slade leaving himself that vulnerable."
"Because he wouldn't," Oliver said as a horrifying thought suddenly occurred to him. "Sara, Roy…when was the last time either of you heard from Sin?"
For a moment, the lair was completely silent. Then, almost quicker than they could see, Sara pulled out her phone and dialed Sin. After a few moments, she lowered it to her side, pale as a ghost.
"Her phone just goes straight to voicemail," Sara said lowly.
"He has her. Damn it, how could we not see this?!" Roy swore, angry at himself and everyone.
"Because we've been distracted, with John and Jade and Goodwin. We didn't even stop to consider that we haven't heard from Sin in three days. How do we find this thing?" Oliver asked as he looked over at Felicity.
"A machine like this pulls an exorbitant amount of power from the grid. When it turns on, I'll know when and where," Felicity promised. "For now, we just wait."
"I'm tired of waiting, tired of playing Slade's games," Oliver said angrily as he turned and started to walk out of the room.
"Oliver, where are you going?" Roy called out.
"To do something I should have done a long time ago," Oliver tossed back.
Starling City
Later
In a Bratva hideout, a woman had a bag over her head, her hands tied to a chair. The bag was removed and she blinked at the sudden light, staring up at her capturer.
"Hello Isabel. We need to talk," Oliver said coolly as Isabel Rochev stared up at him blankly.
Safe house
Same time
Moira was sitting on the couch, staring at the fire place even though her mind was miles away. So consumed with her thoughts, Moira didn't hear someone walk up beside her.
"Mom?" Moira almost jumped, looking over to see Thea looking at her in concern. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Moira lied but Thea looked at her with a look that said she didn't believe her.
"It's oaky if you're not. Because I'm not," Thea admitted as she sat down next to her mother. "Thinking about Dad and Goodwin?"
"Yes. And Mr. Diggle. And Jade," Moira sighed as Thea looked at her in concern.
"Things are messed up," Thea agreed with a sigh.
"We tried to make things better for Oliver, For Mia, for everyone. What if we've just made things worse? Emiko is targeting you brother five years earlier. And Mr. Diggle has betrayed everyone. Maybe…maybe we should have never interfered. Let things play out as they should have," Moira said with a sigh.
Thea was completely shocked, stunned at this train of thought. Before she could even think of a response, another voice, familiar yet not, broke the silence.
"No."
Startled, the two women jumped to their feet and whirled around. A figure in a green cloak was standing several feet away from. Normally, Moira and Thea would be scared, especially since no one was supposed to know the location of the safe house. But, for some reason, they didn't feel threatened. Oddly, they felt…soothed by the figure's presence.
The figured reach up and lowered his hood, causing Thea to let out gasp of shock and Moira to stare in shock at his identity.
"You should not have," the figure said, the face of Oliver Queen staring back at them.
And now Slade has skeleton key. I always found it stupid that Oliver just left it lying around.
It's so weird seeing Cisco and Caitlin pre Flash, isn't it?
A lot of you have been wondering when Isabel would get exposed. But the truth of the matter is, Oliver has known about Isabel for a while.
DUN DUN DUN! Bet you guys weren't expecting Spectre Oliver to show up. This is something I've been planning for a while. Thank you to Aragorn II Elessar for his help with this idea.
