Prompt: "a holy grail war where rin never saved shirou and he died, drastically changing the war and the winner." — Pandy

The sky is bleeding.

Rin was a very intelligent young woman, she knew that and everyone who knew her knew that. She had mentally prepared for every possible outcome that she could possibly imagine for the Grail War, even if she had trouble affording actual physical preparations. But she thought she knew what she was getting into.

But her father, the man who always taught her how to hold herself with poise and elegance, never taught her how to fall. How to fail. How to lose everything and watch your dreams (the ones you didn't even know you had) crumble to dust before your eyes.

How to deal with a classmate (the one you failed to deny your feelings for) dying to save your life.

Because of your mistake.

Rin wished she had the energy to laugh at herself, at her arrogance in believing that she had power. The War had taught her many things, opening doors that she had never wished opened, and where she had started it with a fire in her chest, now all she felt was cold. Perhaps that was the chill of winter getting through her torn clothes.

No. She was sure it was post-dread numbness settling in.

The sky is bleeding.

Black blood, shadow blood, Grail blood, an ocean, a flood of fire that forced Fuyuki into flames once again. She wasn't here the first time it happened, only seen the destruction it wrought upon her home. Now, she watched it in a daze, almost an out of body experience. Watched as everyone she had known and... cared for died.

She felt nothing about the fact that she felt nothing, and some distant part of her screamed at that.

Rin fell down onto the grass and stared at the bleeding sky as the chill grew stronger, even as flames crawled up the hillside.

I hope you end up somewhere better than I do… Shirou.
