I do not own Hetalia okay? Thank you all so much for reading and faving and leaving comments. It makes me feel so good. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Alfred sat at Matthew and Katyusha's house with a sigh. Ivan had to go into the office today for some of his projects and had to leave the house. The cats had settled in well, and after a little time for Koshka and Hero to establish dominance, and each had taken to one of the family well. Hero had taken to Alfred so well that after a while of teaching him to not sit on the laptop Alfred used while he was doing his work, and now sits on his lap at work. Koshka would often scratch at the door Ivan shut when he was working on his work until he was let in and would sit at Ivan's feet, on his house slippers and sit on the slippers when he left. Alfred had finished his work for the day and was rather bored. It had been awhile since he had checked in on Katyusha and Matthew since they had settled in and in his boredom, he headed over to their house, just as Matthew was leaving.
"Oh Mattie!" Alfred said as he stepped up to the door to find Matthew already dressed and heading to work. "I see you're heading out. I was stopping to say hi is all..."
"Oh, is Vanya with you?" Katyusha said.
"Nah, he had to head into the office today." Alfred said, noticing how big she had gotten. "So the baby is due soon?"
"Yes, please come in." Katyusha said. "I will be fine Matvey, no need to worry about me. It would be nice to have some company."
"Alright..." Matthew said. "Later Al."
"Later bro." Alfred said as Katyusha motioned him inside. "So how has it been lately Katy?" Alfred asked.
"I should ask you has it been with your darling little ones. Vanya has told me so much about those two. They are so darling." Katyusha said as she placed a soda in front of Alfred as she had a cup of tea herself.
"Oh they're doing great." Alfred smiled. "Nikita is going to be starting tee ball in a few weeks and next week is when they make everything official. We went to the museum last week and while I knew Dmitri would love it, I was afraid Nikita would find it boring but she didn't. We then painted up their rooms and we're waiting for the wall decals they both wanted to come in. We were going to just paint it but Vanya said that things may change as they get older and it would be easier to take it down and replace it. Also neither of us could draw a dinosaur good enough for Dmitri so we just got the decals to make it easy. But I want to know about my niece. She should be coming soon." Alfred said taking the conversation back to Katyusha. He had helped Matthew when he could set up their girl's nursery but between work and the twins, he hadn't had a chance to talk to Katyusha much.
"Oh she's fine. About another two months and then that room will not be so empty other than me dusting and adding new things in. Matvey's coworkers have been so generous. Except for the lady who sells scam weight loss products. I will give her the benefit of the doubt her intentions are good but I am not worrying about baby weight right after my daughter is born." Katyusha said. This was something that slowly had been worrying her in a part of her mind that grew the closer she got to her delivery date. Would Matvey still find me attractive after the baby? She often pondered. She knew that many people found him handsome since he had gotten the job as a news anchor and the part of her that was rather insecure about herself often wondered if he would leave her because of this.
"Good that you're not worrying about it and if some dumb bitch tries to call you fat like that again, let me know, I don't work there." Alfred smirked. "You're like a big sister to me and no one insults my family on something so stupid."
"Oh Fredka you are too kind." Katyusha said. "And if I told Vanya he'd likely take a metal pipe to their heads. I mean I never told him nor our great uncle when others bullied me for that reason. I didn't want them getting in trouble on my behalf. Back in Russia when I was young I had beaten up many who had tried to pick on me, but when we came here I was told to keep my head down and not cause trouble. I had beat up a bully once when I had first come to this nation and got in trouble for it. Never again..."
"That rule sucks." Alfred sighed. "You know how many times I was in detention for beating up someone who picked on Mattie?" Katyusha nodded that she did not. "A lot. Ask my dad about it. Not like I could get all those who picked on Mattie to go against him in hockey." Alfred stared off in the distance. "How he didn't get picked for some minor league is beyond me..."
"He had offers." Katyusha said as Alfred's jaw dropped.
"You're kidding?"
"No. But he did not want to make something he loved a career. He had enough of that in college to keep his scholarship up." Katyusha replied as she winced.
"Everything okay?" Alfred jumped up, worried for her well being.
"Yes. It's just this little one has quite a powerful kick." She smiled.
The rest of the day went on where they had talked about the family, plans for summer vacation as Alfred wanted to do something really nice for the twins like Disneyworld but Ivan was worried if the children could stand flying and he did not feel like taking three year olds on a road trip, so right now they were discussing a beach vacation as that was a shorter drive and there was things small children could do that would not leave them off a large percentage of the rides. Alfred looked at his watch and jumped up. "God I have got to go." Alfred said as Katyusha looked worried. "Nothing to worry about, but Vanya is going to be home soon."
"Oh. Tell him I said hello." Katyusha waved as Alfred jumped in his car and headed back to his house. It was about a 15 minute drive but Alfred was determined to meet Ivan home and surprise him after a day at work. Yes! He's not home just yet. Alfred said as he headed inside to come up with a special after work surprise for Ivan. As soon as he shut off the car, his phone began to ring.
"Uggggggh perfect timing." Alfred moaned as he looked down, thinking it was a telemarkter, only to see it was Kiku's number, his gaming buddy. It had been awhile since they had scheduled a game night and he didn't want his friend to think he was ignoring him. He had figured he was busy with his new girlfriend Mei at the time and he didn't want Kiku to blow this. He remembered back during college he was often too nervous to talk to girls he was interested in. There were times he recalled that people thought they were dating before Alfred and Ivan started to, when the simple matter was that Alfred was one of the few people that could keep up with Kiku when it came to one of his favorite pastimes, gaming. "Sup Kiku, how've you been?"
"Oh hello Alfred-kun, I was hoping I could get ahold of you." Kiku said.
"I'm here unless I'm not." Alfred laughed. "Been awhile since we had a guy's night huh? How's Mei? I have that correct?"
"Yes. And that's kind of what I wanted to talk to you about..." Kiku gulped. "We're getting married and she wants a Western style ceremony."
"Okay..."Alfred began. "Congrats dude..."
"Thank you very much. But Mei has already named her a few bridesmaids, and told me I need to find me a few groomsmen myself. It was then I realized something..." Kiku said rather formally.
"What?" Alfred asked.
"I don't have as many friends as Mei does and well...being an only child means that I can't ask my brother like you did for you wedding. So I will ask you if you can be my best man." Kiku said.
Alfred paused. "I'm honored dude..."
"Thank you. Mei wants to meet you and Ivan tomorrow. Would 6pm be okay for dinner?" Kiku asked.
"Sure." Alfred said. "Speaking of the big guy, Ivan is home."
"I must admit I will never see what you do in that man, as I have found him rather scary but if you love him..." Kiku began. "I guess I will see you tomorrow at the Tachibana."
"See you then bro. Mei sounds nice. Bye." Alfred said as he got out of the car and headed over to Ivan. "So you're home." He said as he grabbed Ivan and kissed him deeply. "How was work?"
"Productive." Ivan smiled back. "Who were you talking to?" He had always been able to determine when Alfred was talking to someone else.
"Kiku. He and his girlfriend Mei are getting married and want to meet us at that hibachi place tomorrow at 6." Alfred said. "I think we should be able to get home in time to tell the twins their phone bed time story. I can't wait until we can do that nighty here."
"Neither can I." Ivan smiled. "Those two have grown on me so. It's such a strain waiting on the stupid court systems to make everything official, even if the finalization hearing date is in two weeks. I wish I could just rip a pipe from the wall and bash everyone over the head with it to make it go faster. Luckily the children are well taken care of at Sherrie and Tom's but still..."
"God I love you." Alfred said as he kissed Ivan back. "Just hearing you want to take the system into your own hands to get our children..."
"Frisky are you?" Ivan smiled.
"Oh maybe..." Alfred teased.
"I will have to solve that will I not?" Ivan said as he pulled Alfred into his arms and carried him inside.
The next day, Alfred and Ivan stood nervously outside the Tachibana looking for Kiku and his fiance. Alfred had explained he was asked to be best man as one of the Japanese businessman's personal friends and not work relations. Ivan remembered Kiku as they had all gone to the same college but he hadn't had as much contact with him as Alfred did and the few times they did meet, it did not go well. Well we're adults now, so hopefully we can be cordial on the issue. Alfred thought, but he knew that Kiku was very proud and would not want his fiancee to think him cowardly so he probably wouldn't do much. Ivan looked on nervously as the warming winds of spring coming in blew by and then saw Alfred looking at his phone. "You have a lot of pictures of the twins on there." He noted.
"I know. I would be one of those dads who have a whole fold down picture wallet so full it'd be all over the ground." Alfred said as he swiped through the pictures.
"Well we should print some of those off for a photo album. No way you can keep every phone of the twins on your phone." Ivan laughed as Mei ran up with Kiku not too far behind.
"Hello, Alfred, Ivan, this is my fiancee Mei and she had desperately wanted to meet who I had chosen for the best man role." Kiku said as he motioned to a small young woman with long black hair and a very energetic feel.
"You must be the Alfred that Kiku-kun has told me so much about." She said as she took Ivan's hand and shook it, causing him to look confused.
"Ummmm pardon me my love, but that is Alfred's husband Ivan." Kiku said.
"I am so sorry." Mei said as she took Alfred's hand and looked at the ground. "I don't know how I got that idea."
"It's fine." Alfred said as they headed into the hibachi restaurant. "Good to know you aren't afraid of the big guy there."
"Oh no." Mei said. "I am not afraid of him, he reminds me of a big cuddly teddy bear." At this Kiku looked at her awkwardly.
"Mei is quite the social butterfly." Kiku explained as they were seated. "That is why she wants a large western style ceremony with everyone we know."
"You must really love her if you are willing to go through with all that." Alfred said as Kiku blushed. "Where did you meet her?"
"I met Mei at a coffee shop while on the way to work. I had kept visiting until I had managed to pluck up the courage to ask her out." Kiku replied.
"He did it via coffee order." Mei said. "Needless to say I am very happy now." As the chef came to start preparing the dinner, she looked over to Alfred and Ivan and was curious. "So how did you two meet?"
"Hmmmph?" Alfred asked as he had a mouth full of shrimp the chef had just flipped into his mouth.
"Oh dear. I remember when you two first did. You wouldn't get out of the dorm even though I had that new roommate from Greece..." Kiku sighed. "Sleeping on the floor could not have been good for your back."
"Oh now I must know more." Mei said staring at Ivan and Alfred who looked at each other and blushed. At this Ivan buried his face in his scarf even more. Kiku looked on curiously. It was almost as if his image of Ivan being some sort of monster was being challenged in his mind. He did concede when he had heard that Ivan and Alfred had gotten together that Alfred was stubborn enough and brave enough for the attempt. Kiku remembered when he did see Ivan when they were in college he was often cold and gave off an aggressive aura.
"Yes considering he looked at me funny and I got appendicitis the same day." Kiku said.
"You know that is not possible." Mei said.
"Well if you must know, Alfred said, I saw him suffering with Professor Lindsay's test, you know the one that no one really studied but got a copy of the answer key, gave him mine, he gave me my favorite Mcdonald's' back, started not wanting to kill each other then and well he he he..." Alfred blushed, "I am not very good explaining it. I had to to Matthew and to my dad and papa..."
"Well if nothing else you two seem so sweet and Kiku, you know appendicitis is not caused by someone looking at you weird." Mei said.
"Have you picked a date yet?" Alfred said. "I have a summer vacation to plan and god knows that Katy and Matt are going to need a few days off. Maybe let them have some days to sleep while we and the twins help watch their cousins." He tried to pick up a large piece of zucchini with a pair of chopsticks.
"Sounds like something we should offer Matvey and Katyusha and I know the twins would love to play with their baby cousin." Ivan said, picking up a bunch of rice with ease.
"I do remember that time our senior year I saw you and Alfred together eating some old Chinese takeout. How you two did not get sick, I don't know, but Ivan always seemed to handle chopsticks better." Kiku noted.
"Growing up my older sister often ordered take out and insisted we use them." Ivan noted.
"So, those twins you mentioned, what are their names?" Mei asked, at this Alfred lit up with joy, pulling out his phone.
"Okay so we're in the process of adopting a set of three year old twins, the girl Nikita," He showed Mei the picture of her with a bat from baseball practice "and the boy Dmitri." and this picture he was petting Koshka looking up at the camera with a smile."
"I hope this won't be too much of a problem and I know you may not want them to do so, but one thing that Kiku and I have been having a hard time finding is someone to be the ring bearer and flower girl." Mei began. "Neither one of us had a large family and all our siblings are grown but do not have children of their own." Alfred and Ivan nodded. "And since it's all but assured that Alfred will be the best man," Kiku blushed as Mei pretty much planned all their wedding for them, even deciding that while the ceremony would be done in a western way, she wanted the wedding party be dressed in the traditional Japanese way with some Taiwanese elements thrown in, a fusion of their heritage and home, "Then it would be only fitting for his cute little twins take part too. What do you think Kiku?" Mei said as she showed him the pictures.
"MMMMmmphh." Kiku said startled, mouth full of rice. "Sure, that is if you do not mind, Alfred, Ivan? And do remember that this wedding will likely not be until August or September at least."
"Sure, as long as you do not have any objections." Alfred smiled.
"I guess so." Ivan said.
"And if Kiku can't get any more friends or even some of my cousins to come then I can always ask you to be one of the groomsmen too. Can't have it unbalanced and I have 5 total bridesmaids planed. At this Ivan and Kiku's eyes grew wide in shock. He didn't consider himself to me more than Kiku's friend's husband and often kept to himself when he was over not wanting to impose.
"Mei, my dear, please give me a chance to find a few people to be a groomsman. Or cut back on the number of bridesmaids..." Kiku pleaded. "Alfred does have a brother after all..."
Mei looked at Alfred as if just realizing something. "That new anchor, Matthew Williams wouldn't be your brother? I mean you two look a lot alike, although I think he is cuter with his hair being fluffier..."
"Yes..."Alfred said plainly, still not used to comments like this about his own brother.
"Kiku, no way can I have him in the party, he'd outshine your best man." Mei pleaded. Alfred growled to himself, causing Ivan to look at him concerned.
"Is everything okay?" Ivan asked Alfred quietly.
"If Mei wasn't Kiku's girl..." Alfred said.
"You're still not used to the attention you're getting because of Matthew."
"Nope." Alfred said finishing his coke. But knowing he wanted Kiku and Mei to he happy, "Sure we can have Nikita and Dmitri be your flower girl and ring bearer. And Ivan can be a groomsman on call. If no one else can do it. I know he and Kiku aren't very close."
"Sounds fine to me." Mei said. "Dinner is on us tonight." She smiled as she placed her credit card to pay down. "Thanks you guys. I have got much more to plan now that I know who a good part of the wedding party is. It's so easy to find regular oufitters for gowns and suits but kimono is going to be though but I can do it."
"Good luck Kiku." Ivan waved as they headed out.
Kiku looked at him almost pleadingly as if he could talk Mei out of her grandieous plans. "Thank you so much for your thoughts. Let us go home my cherry blossom." He said to Mei.
"I'll call you guys later when I know more. Your kids are cute." She waved. Alfred and Ivan waved back as they headed back home.
"To think the worst we had to deal with was my papa and his friend's parties...especially the bachelor party." Alfred said as he slumped back in the seat.
"Natalya and Katyusha handled what you could call a bachelor party for me." Ivan said.
"Oooof..." Alfred said. "Your sisters planning something like that..."
"What's the matter?" Ivan shrugged. "At least I didn't have to spend the the first twenty minutes of the reception apologizing to the toilet because of what was at mine."
"Don't remind me. I swear Antonio's son was out to get me with that one..." Alfred sulked. "But by tradition, I must plan something for Kiku that he'd like. Minus Enrique's hot sauce or tacos de lingua...that I got tricked into eating...despite being good."
"I don't understand a lot of Spanish Fredka." Ivan asked.
"Tongue tacos. Better than it sounds and I like to admit." Alfred sighed as Ivan laughed kissing him on the forehead.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. I wanted to have a little fun here and I think JapanxTaiwan is cute so worked it in here but in the next chapter I have some big things planned. Other than that I don't have much else to say here but remember to read (you just did...) and to review. Ciao for now,
