Chapter 15
Ethan's Dino bash
Tris' POV
The moment Tobias and I both found out that there was indeed a Dinosaur World in Texas we just knew it would be the perfect place to have Ethan's 11th birthday. We arranged for a special cake, pizza and some decorations to be added to a small section of the picnic area. The park is family owned and they had no problem whatsoever with accommodating such requests, especially when Tobias had no problem with making the drive to pay them ahead of time.
I wasn't really surprised when Tobias insisted that he make the drive out to Dinosaur World to pay them ahead of time. It was only a one hour drive there and back. He felt that it was only right that after the year that Ethan has had, he should have the best day ever. He left bright and early before anyone woke up, by the time he got back, the kids were just finishing up with breakfast, no one was the wiser. It felt really great to finally be able to surprise the kids. To give them something so special, even if it's just for the day.
I still can't believe my little boy is turning eleven. Time has really flown by. He struggled at first when he was born. Doctors did all they could to stop my contractions, as it was too soon for him to be born, but they couldn't stop them. I remember laying in the hospital bed, trying to remain calm when Peter came into my hospital room, he wanted to know if the "little creep" was born yet. Eric was too much of a coward to come out and see for himself, he had to send his low life cousin to do his dirty work for him. It took a nurse and a security guard to escort him out of my room and out of the hospitaL, but it was too late, my water had broken sending me straight into premature labor.
One minute I was laying there and the next minute they were moving me from my regular room to a labor and delivery room. I breathed through the pain as they slowly inserted the epidural. I was thankful that Christina was there for me every step of the way. I had no one else, so thankfully she was always there for me back then.
I recall laying in bed and resting when the nurse came in to check on how far I had progressed. One minute the nurse's hands were between my legs as calm as could be and then suddenly the nurse ordered Christina to push the nurse button, calling for backup. Within minutes, the room was filled with my doctor and six other nurses and a specialized NICU pediatric doctor. It took me three pushes and that was it, Ethan was born on January 27th at 3:12 am. Just as fast as he came into this world, they took him away from me. The nurse cleaned him up as the Doctor was working on him. All I could see was their backs as they worked frantically as they placed him in a NICU plastic box with wires and on wheels, it was called an incubator. All I was told was that he was stable for the time being, but he needed help breathing, seeing that his lungs were under developed. I had never felt so scared before. All I could do was lay in the bed, with my legs still up in the air as they took him away from me. I asked Christina one last favor that day, to stay with him and to not leave his side for anything. She smiled and was honored that I would ask her such a thing and took off behind them.
I got to hold him for the first time 24 hours after he was born. He was so small and precious, even as he was hooked up to all those wires that were hooked up to the machine. I would have done anything to help him feel better, to be stronger. The nurse helped me do just that. She educated me on the importance of Kangaroo care. At first I was bewildered by the action, but she soon helped me understand that by placing Ethan in only a diaper against my naked chest, helped his body more than anything else could. Soon his temperature regulated and his breathing improved. It was as if our bodies communicated together, mine taught him what to do and how to do it. It was magical. I didn't care how tired my arms got, I held him for as long as they would allow me too.
The doctors were really surprised when Ethan progressed faster than they expected. They anticipated that his stay in the hospital would be for at least three to five weeks, but thankfully it was nowhere near that, as he only had to stay in the hospital for two weeks. He was a stubborn, little fighter since the day he was born. He didn't wait for the Doctors to decide when it was time for him to breathe on his own either. He chose the time for himself. When no one was looking he somehow pulled out his breathing tube and turned it backwards and sucked on it. If it wasn't for the NICU nurse that thought fast and took a picture for me to see it, I would have never believed it myself. He had some small obstacles to accomplish before he could be released, I had every right to believe that my son would be strong enough to do each one. He did them in record time. Little did I know that our adventure had just begun for the both of us.
I was more than touched when Zeke and Shauna made it out yesterday, even in her condition she insisted on not missing out on her oldest nephew's birthday. When I made the choice to leave home just a year after Ethan was born, I never would have thought this is where we would end up. Surrounded by people that we have come to love the most, people that no matter what, are always there for us.
They had just arrived yesterday. Poor Shauna nearly passed out from exhaustion from the long trip. After greeting everyone, including the kids, she sneaked into what has now become her and Zeke's bedroom and passed out. We didn't see her for most of the afternoon. Zeke told us it's been like this for months. Even after the first trimester, Shauna is still feeling exhausted and it's weighing down on her. At least the morning sickness had died down now. Either way we were glad they had made the trip out here to be with Ethan and us.
"Dinosaur World!" Ethan yells out. I glance at him bouncing up and down in his seat just like he did when Tobias surprised us both with that trip in Florida when I was his rented wife. Maddy yells from the seat behind us with her own excitement. I can't help the laughter that escapes my mouth from my children being so excited.
"Happy Birthday!" We all call out to Ethan. Up until now, everyone had been acting normal, trying not to give off clues to what was really happening. We just acted as if we were all going on a food run in town or something. It was well worth the effort.
Ethan can barely contain the excitement that threatens to boil within him as Tobias parks the van and everyone begins to climb out of it. I stay rooted in my seat until I am the last one still in the van. Tobias laughs, as he knows how much effort it takes for me to climb in and out of this cargo van. A part of me can't wait to give birth to this little guy.
It was just last week that I had my doctor's appointment with Doctor Parker. Tobias and I were more than thrilled to see that the baby is doing so well, even if he is already weighing in at a whopping 8 pounds. I am on restrictions to not accelerate myself too much, as I wouldn't want to go into premature labor since I'm not due for at least another three weeks. Thankfully Tobias thought of everything, as we walked into the lobby of the main building. Tobias is greeted by an older lady, smiling widely at all of us.
"Welcome. Welcome," the older lady greets us. We all smile, introducing ourselves. "Mr. Eaton I have everything that you requested prepared. Along with all of the items that we spoke about, they will be set up and ready for your birthday party at 1 o'clock. Until then please enjoy yourselves and let us know if there is anything we can assist you all with." She hands all of us our party packages along with two wheelchairs. I glance at Tobias, confused about why he would request such a thing.
"I wouldn't want the two moms-to-be to exhaust themselves too much," he says, gesturing for Shauna and I to take our rightful seats in the wheelchairs. Tobias helps me lower myself into the wheelchair and then puts down the footrest for me. This is probably for the best, I think to myself. Although I hate for others to think of me as weak, to tell you the truth, I'm sure I wouldn't last ten minutes walking around this huge park with this big belly. I can easily topple over on a normal walk to the bathroom.
Tobias pushes me while Marlene pushes Maddy in her stroller for us. Zeke happily jokes about all the accidents that could happen with Shauna in the wheelchair and there's not much that she can do about it. She gives my husband the death stare as he takes off like a bat out of the automatic doors and down the wheelchair ramp. We hear Shauna yell "I'm going to kill you Four!" Just as the doors close. We all laugh, patting my husband's shoulders for a thought well done.
We decided to hit the indoor dinosaur exhibit first, as I remember how much Ethan loved it the last time. Although this park is run by the same franchise as the one in Florida, I can see the difference between the two right off the bat. The minute you step into the building you can hear the fake waterfall in the rainforest, the wild birds chirping and the dinosaurs ROARing to life. We walk through, or should I say rush through, the dozens of fossils and information showcases, only to be met by the most ferocious dinosaur ever, the T-rex. Ethan instantly gets excited and forms his body to match the tall animatronic dinosaur. He too roars at the same time as the robotic T-rex does. While Ethan is amazed and busies himself with the dinosaur display before us...Poor Maddy is in total hysterics, she wails and throws her little balled up fists into the air. Tobias has to park me right next to her stroller, as he comes around and unbuckles our little screaming girl and holds her tightly against his chest. I don't have to hold my little girl to know how scared she truly is. Maddy's little arms are shaking for dear life as she holds on tightly to her daddy. I gesture for Tobias to leave the building with Maddy, not wanting to stress her out anymore than she already appears to be. He nods, then gestures for Marlene to be the one to push me out instead. Not daring to leave another Pedrad in charge of pushing me out in the wheelchair. Good choice. He pushes the stroller out the back way with one hand, as he continues to hold our wailing child in the other hand. I watch as they both walk out the back, hoping my little precious girl calms down soon. I glance back at the T-rex, the lights in the ceiling giving off the effect that the display should be at night. The other dinosaurs that surround him are a brocasious and a triceratops. They are all ready to engage in a fight if need be. Something moving to the far left of the display catches my eye. I turn around trying to see what the dark object is, but can't seem to find it. Mm that's odd. I shrug off the feeling of someone watching me, it's probably just pregnancy jitters or just left over eeriness from my upset daughter. I'm sure it's nothing, as there is nothing to see.
We soon exit, promising Ethan that we will return one more time before leaving for the day. We quickly find Tobias and Maddy both sitting at one of the benches close by. Maddy thankfully has indeed settled down. She is laying her head on her father's chest as she sits sideways on her father's lap. She reaches out for me the minute she sees me, calling out for her Momma. I don't hesitate to take her in my arms, holding her close to me as Tobias pushes us along.
I was grateful to see that the park had a train that takes you through what appears to be a rainforest filled with statues of dinosaurs in what would have been their actual habitat. Remembering back to Florida's Dinosaur World, the park was huge, we walked for half of the day and still didn't see all 300 dinosaur statues. The train here takes you not only through the rainforest and the small put together scenes of the dinosaurs, but they also drop you off at the back of the park where there are picnic tables for you, a playground, along with a small gift shop, and show locations that I'm sure Ethan will enjoy most of all.
The whole ride takes about thirty minutes, as it travels slowly through the many displays. The pre-recorded tour guide talks about each individual species and their day to day life back in the Juriassic period. Ethan eats up each word as he jumps up and down in his seat each time we cross another dinosaur species. I can't help but have a big smile on my face each time he says the name of the dinosaur even before the prompter does. My boy knows his stuff. We arrive at the back of the park, once again Shauna, Maddy and I all get pushed out on our chairs.
"Come on, let's go, giddy up," Shauna calls out. I am surprised how she has taken to Zeke being the one to push her. She is no longer the screaming, fearful mother to be as she was before. No, now she has embraced it and with that she has become the boss of her chair, as she demandes where and how Zeke shall push her.
"Thanks Four, you created a monster for me," Zeke mumbles under his breath, probably hoping that only Tobias would hear him.
"My pleasure dude," Tobias says back, loud and clear.
By lunchtime we are all famished and ready to eat. Tobias leads us up towards the picnic area where the lady told us to be around one. We are greeted by a young gentleman with a name tag that says, "Al." He smiles wide as he greets us, letting us know that he will be our host. He shows us to our reserved table, letting us all take our seats as he takes our wheelchairs and Maddy's stroller and puts them off to the side. 'Your food will be out in a minute. I'll go get the refreshments while you wait," he says while smiling as he walks away. I feel chills run down my spine as he smiles and looks my way before he turns to walk away. Something about him makes me feel uneasy. I once again shrug off the feeling, thinking it must be my pregnancy making me feel off.
"Did you order enough?" I joke, turning towards my handsome husband. I can't help the laughter that escapes me. Al returns with two other assistants placing not two, not three pizza pies in the center of the table, but six of them. Three of them are cheese while the rest are a combination of pepperoni, ham and pineapple, and another supreme.
"What? I have two pregnant women with me…And two Pedrad brothers…I had to cover all my bases, or else I'll get eaten alive," Tobias jokes, although I'm almost certain he is about 90 percent serious. I reach for the supreme pizza once I make sure that the kids have their food. We cut up Maddy's slice into bite size pieces for her to eat comfortably, as we sit her between both Tobias and I. Ethan on the other hand, being the birthday boy and all gets the head of the table seat just for him. He loves being the center of attention for everyone. I can see it. I can't believe how far he has come from the little boy that he once was. We all laugh as he roars happily when the hostess places a plate of two very large cheese pizza slices in front of him. My boy loves his pizza! We all chatter mindlessly while we eat. It's times like this that I know exactly how truly blessed we are…
"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you…" Ethan sits up straighter in his chair, smiling from ear to ear as the crowd of workers come from behind the fence singing to the birthday boy. We all chime in singing along. "Happy birthday, dear Ethan, happy birthday to you."
"Make a wish!" I say over the cheers of not only our family but also the guests around us that stopped to join in. Ethan smiles, closes his eyes and blows all his candles out. I can't help but wonder if his only wish is to go back home again. I look around, suddenly having the feeling as if someone is watching us again. I feel all the hair on the back of my neck stand up as I glance all around us.
We all walk or shall I say drag ourselves back into the cabin. Maddy giggles as she plays with her new T-rex build a bear toy, she named it "Green," because it's bright green. Ethan on the other hand drags in a large bag of his own souvenirs. He was so excited this time around when we went through the gift shop. He bought himself a large salt rock lamp that has the imprint of a T-rex on it. That's just the start of it, he also bought a sign for his bedroom door that says "Enter at your own risk, T-rex on the loose inside," with three long scratches across the sign. He also decided on a few chains that have different charms with dinosaurs on them. Tobias and I couldn't be more proud of him. We sat back as he carefully chose each item with thought behind each one. Our boy has definitely changed, alright.
Without asking, Ethan goes up the stairs to his room and gets ready for bed. Maddy on the other hand pouts at the sound of taking a bath and getting ready for bed. Tobias laughs as he makes his deep funny bear noise at Maddy. He throws her up in the air, catching her mid air making our little girl giggle as her daddy takes her upstairs.
I slowly follow, grateful when I feel Zeke's hand on me, giving me some much needed balance. He has his other hand wrapped around Shauna's back, giving her the same support. I finally feel the relief in my body, once we reach the very top of the stairs. I can't imagine having to continue to have to climb these stairs being even more pregnant.
I go into our room, take a quick shower and change into a pair of shorts and a tank top. I let out a frustrated huff when the fabric of the tank top doesn't even make it a quarter past my over grown stomach. I walk out of the bathroom, towel drying my hair.
"Don't!" Tobias says, startling me. Where the hell did he come from? "Maddy didn't last one page of her bedtime story. Ethan is getting ready for bed. He says he is too old now to be put to bed by us," he says, giving a dry chuckle at the end. I can see that he is lost, deep in thought. "They are growing up so fast aren't they?" He says. I'm not sure if it's a question he means for me to answer, but more like a comment. I just nod my head, not sure what to say. I turn towards the dresser to get a bigger shirt when I feel his arms circling around me, holding me tightly against his chest. I feel my body instantly melting into his embrace. "Thank you," he whispers into my ear, sending delicious shivers down my spine.
"For what?" I ask, getting back to the comment on hand.
"For giving me everything that I didn't know I wanted. For making me a father and husband. For giving me my family," he says, as he rubs circles on my belly.
"You mean…A wonderful father and husband," I say, smiling.
"I mean it. I love you so much Tris." I can hear desperation and despair all at once in his voice. I release his arms as I roughly turn around as best as I can. I'm trying to figure out where this is all coming from?
"Tobias?" I begin to ask, but he doesn't let me get a word in as he crashes his lips against mine, claiming them as his own. His tongue is no better, as it demands entrance into my very eager mouth. I wonder if there will ever be a day where I will get enough of this man… Probably not. My hands slowly reach up, cradling his face between my hands, wanting him even closer to me than he is now, but I fail miserably as my ever growing stomach is in the way. I can't help the growl that escapes me as frustration overwhelms me. I want him, it's been too long.
""I want you so much right now, Love," Tobias says, his voice filled with need for me. I glance down, noticing the large tent in his jeans, evidence to his matching voice. I boldly grab a hold of his growing erection, stroking it through his jeans. He growls, leaning down and resting his forehead against mine. His eyes close shut, as if he is in pain. "Tris, you're killing me," he says, in defeat.
"Take me," I say, I can barely recognize my own voice since it's filled with so much need for him. I don't think I have ever felt so aroused before. My walls clench on their own accord and it's almost too painful.
"But Tris, we can't," Tobias says, glancing down at my very large stomach.
"I guess we will need to experiment with some new positions then. But I can't stop myself even if I tried," I say, and just like that my hands begin to fiddle with his jeans, undoing his button and then lowering down his zipper. I push the fabric down his hips and over his very hard erection and let them drop to the floor. I don't stop there, as I raise the hem of his shirt almost too roughly up his gorgeous chest and then over his head. The second he is freed from the fabric, he once again crashes his lips against my own, devouring me. I can feel him struggling to step out of his pants, but I don't care, I'm too lost in my own lust to care if his pants are still around his ankles. I break the kiss, turning towards the bed. As I step closer, I decide to once again be bold. I remove my shirt, bra and then my shorts. I turn back around facing him, as I slowly take my lacy panties off and let them drop to the floor.
"Fuck Love," Tobias says, walking towards our door. Although the door is already closed, he checks to make sure it's locked before dimming the lights down and finally freeing his left foot from his pants that are still being dragged behind him. He climbs on the bed, kneeling on his knees and holding both of his hands out for me to take and help me on the bed. I lay down on my back in the center of the bed, as he lies beside me kissing me like he hasn't kissed me several times a day for nearly three years. "I love you so much," he says breathlessly, as he releases my mouth. "Turn on your side, Love" he says, something about the demanding, animalistic way that he says it makes me even more aroused than I was before. I turn towards my right, doing exactly what he says. He lifts my left leg, laying it on his thigh before he reaches over my body and finds the center of my legs. I bit down on my lower lip to keep from screaming out as he circled my clit. "I'm going to make you cum," he whispers into my ear, before he devours my neck. I reach behind me, holding the back of his neck, keeping him where he is as his fingers get to work. I swear I begin to see stars just as he thrusts himself into me from behind. He feels so deep and so damn good that my body pushes back into him on its own. His fingers never slow down as they bring me to my release, while I feel him chasing his own. I turn my head slightly, biting down on the pillow, hoping not to wake anyone up with my screams that I so badly want to let out. "Say my name, Tris," he says, pounding even harder and faster into me.
"Tobias," I say, barely above a whisper. I feel a slight sting on my ass, realizing that he has smacked it like he has done so many times before. Something about being slapped while having sex just turns me on. I love the caveman in him. "Tobias," I say a little louder.
"That's right, Love. It's mine. You're mine," he says, as he speeds up even more, chasing his own release. I feel him swell slightly as his rhythm falters, signaling that he is close. I call out his name again, agreeing that this pussy is indeed his and only his. He grunts out, as he gives me his final thrust deep inside me. He collapses, leaving himself inside of me. We lay there, entwined with each other, breathless and finally satisfied.
"Are you alright? I got a little rough there. I didn't hurt you did I ?" Tobias asks, forever the worry wart.
"That was wonderful," I answered, still trying to catch my breath.
"I love you so much, Tris," Tobias says, wrapping me in his embrace tightly. His left hand rubs circles on my stomach again. "I … I don't know what I would ever do if something ever happened to you or the kids," he whispers.
"Tobias is there something wrong?" I ask. Where is this all coming from?
"Just promise me if something happens, you keep you and the kids safe. Don't… Don't worry about me. As long as you and the kids are alright, then I will be alright," he says. Something in his tone and his words send chills down my spine. What is going on? I turn my head slightly, wishing that I could look at him.
"Tobias, what is this all about?" I ask him again.
"It's just…" He begins, but stops to gather his thoughts. "If you die, I die. I can't live without you Tris," he says, leaning down and once again claiming my lips as his own. I can feel him swelling once more inside of me. Something tells me this is going to be a long and satisfying night.
