The party was about what one might expect from a party thrown by my fellow Hosts. Loud and over the top in many ways. In other ways, however, this felt more tame. Haruhi actually seemed to be enjoying herself. She made a rule rather quickly that she wouldn't be singing, but that didn't stop everyone else. Even myself, solely for the terms of Haruhi and I's prior agreement. It did make her laugh, though.
Her pile of gifts even made her smile. They managed to actually listen to me and not get her anything too extravagant. Though, she did get a pair of pajamas from someone that I was very pleased with. I couldn't wait to give them a more thorough review.
Haruhi knew I wasn't much of a party person, so she seemed okay with the fact that I was sitting alone at a table getting some budgeting for the club done. I looked up every few minutes just to make sure she still seemed happy. I also knew she wasn't much of a party person either.
"Hi, Kyo-Chan!" Hunny-Senpai's voice rang from beside me. I hadn't seen him walk up.
I looked up from my work. "Hello, Hunny-Senpai." Giving him a little smile. Even I could admit that his sunshiny his aura was contagious to a degree.
He leaned and, and began to speak more quietly. "I think Haru-Chan is getting tired. She hasn't said anything, but she looks even more exhausted than usual!"
I looked over at her. She'd given up on the shoes entirely, having set them on the floor near her neatly gifts that she had consolidated into only a couple of bags and boxes.
Hunny was right. Even though she was still standing, smiling and talking to Mori and Kaoru, I knew she could just about fall asleep at any moment. She wasn't being as expressive as she usually was.
I looked at my watch. It was only 8:47, she never seemed to be tired at this hour. She tended to be awake doing something until at least ten. Maybe this party was just a lot for her today.
I nodded and thanked Hunny before closing my notebook and getting up out of my seat. I tucked the notebook into my bag before picking that up as well.
I walked over to where she stood, now surrounded by all of the other Hosts except for Hunny and myself. "Haruhi, you asked me to inform you when it was getting close to 9 o'clock, and it is currently about ten minutes until then."
She stared at my blankly for a moment, before exclaiming, "Oh! Thank you. I have something at home I need to be sure to do tonight, so I preferred not to be out too late!" She quickly turned to her friends and thanked them for the party, before they all said their goodbyes, or in Tamaki's case, pleas for her to stay.
I took her gifts and her shoes out to the car while she argued with Tamaki. As I closed the trunk, I started to realize how cold it had gotten since we went inside. Haruhi was going to be upset, she didn't really like the cold.
When I went back inside, Haruhi was still being talked at by Tamaki. She didn't look well. Her skin was ever so slightly starting to get pale. Not noticeable enough that someone that wasn't looking at her every moment he possibly could be probably wouldn't notice.
"Haruhi, are you ready?" I asked her, walking up on the two of them rather abruptly.
She nodded, and waved goodbye to everyone before I ushered her out the door as subtly as I could. As the door closed behind us, I picked her up slowly, carrying her bridal style in my arms. I couldn't have the love of my life walk on pavement in bare feet.
She didn't oppose at all, nearly immediately laying her head against my chest. I got her in the car, handing her my jacket for the car ride home. I shut her door and got in on my side.
"Thank you for the swift rescue." She smiled, barely lifting her head from the headrest.
"What's wrong? You look ill." I asked her.
"Well that's not very nice." She said jokingly as I reached into my back seat to grab a water bottle I always kept back there. I handed it to her.
"It's not unkind if it's the truth, now is it?"
"I was alright the whole night, I just randomly got really tired." She said, yawning as if on queue. "Then, while you were outside, I noticed how strong Tamaki's cologne was. It made me feel sick a little bit."
"Really? I'm fairly certain he had on what he wears nearly every day."
"It didn't even smell bad, just…strong." She came close to gagging just talking about it.
I pulled out of the parking space, and began heading towards home, trying to drive as smoothly as possible for her.
"You're not allowed to be sick in our car."
"Well now I HAVE to throw up in our- wait, our?" She sat up and looked at me. She looked like she was feeling quite a bit better already.
"Well, you're about the only person I would trust to drive this car, so I'd call it ours." I smirked. "Unless of course you would want your own."
"I can't even drive." She smiled, half laughing.
"Yet, still, somehow I would trust you a hundred times more than either Hitachiin with it."
"Can't hit anything if I don't even know how to make it move!"
"Clearly I need to teach you how to drive, I know how much you adore to be chauffeured, but I think you'd far prefer having the freedom yourself."
"Well, I like when YOU drive me around. Means you're stuck with me." She grabbed my hand. "But I can't even imagine anyone else in the clubs driving. No, thank you…"
"Mori-Senpai drives fine."
"Can you even imagine the TRIP, though? What would you even talk about?!"
I paused for a moment before answering. "The musical 'Cats.'"
She laughed out loud. "I absolutely hate that mental image." She began to whisper, loudly. "It'd be several minutes of silence, before he just said something very as a matter a fact about Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat or something…"
"Is…that a real name of a cat from that tragedy…" I asked her in horror.
"Dad liked Cats. I've seen the old dvd about a million times. Against my will."
"I'm so sorry."
"As you very well should be."
I pulled her hand to my face and kissed the back of it. She was doing much better talking about her father in idle conversation. It wasn't her favorite topic, but it didn't seem to make her too uncomfortable anymore. I was proud of her.
It didn't take her more than a few minutes to fall asleep in the passenger seat. She was out like a light. It was obvious to me that it wasn't a nap, she was fully asleep. I'd have to figure out her sleepwear when we returned home.
We pulled into our driveway not long after. She hadn't moved. I parked, and got out, closing my door quietly. I watched her through the windows as I walked to her side, hoping my door hadn't woken her up. It hadn't.
I opened her door, unbuckled her, and slowly lifted her out. Holding her close, I slowly closed her door, and headed inside. I asked a housekeeper if she could have her gifts brought inside and put in her room. She smiled and nodded, whispering that she'd take care of it. I thanked her and continued upstairs.
I took her into my room, which became more our room by the day. She really only used her room as a closet and a quiet place to study anymore.
Laying her on the bed, I tried to figure out a plan to get her dress off her without waking her up. I thought on it as I took my own party attire off, and changed into a pair of sweatpants.
While I looked through tank tops, deciding which to wear to bed, I heard shuffling blankets from behind me, and quick footsteps. Before I could even turn around, I saw the bathroom door slam shut. Tamaki's cologne must have come back to haunt her.
I knocked quickly but quietly. "Haruhi, are you alright? Can I come in?"
"No and yes." She groaned. I walked in, closing the door behind me. She was just sitting on the floor, leaning her back against the wall. The toilet lid was open, but she hadn't been sick yet.
"Clearly I need to tell stinky to stop wearing that, just THINKING about it made me sick." She leaned her head back onto the cool tile.
I sat down beside her, rubbing her thigh in the most supportive way I possibly could.
"I told you, you weren't aloud to be sick."
"You said I couldn't be sick in the CAR." She half smiled. "I think I'm okay now? The feeling went away."
I helped her up slowly. She stood still for a second, as if to test the waters of being up. "Can you help me get this off?" She turned around, pointing to the zipper. I did as I was asked and helped her get it off in a way as not to upset her delicate stomach.
She only had on a cute pair of pink underwear underneath. Even sick and tired, I still thought she was absolutely gorgeous. Being a gentleman, I handed her the tank top I had grabbed for myself, and she sluggishly put it on.
She took a deep, slow breath before walking up to the mirror. Grabbing some makeup wipes she kept in my bathroom, she took a minute or two to wipe off her small amount of makeup, and rinse her face with cold water. She looked better already.
We went back out to the bedroom. I took a few moments to tuck her into her side loosely, in case she needed to make a break for it. I took my glasses off and went to lie down beside her, kissing her forehead and exchanging "I love you"s before she turned to face the other way, her back against my chest. I wrapped my arm around her, putting my hand softly on her bare stomach and gently rubbing it with my thumb. She always liked that when she didn't feel well. Poor girl didn't have the strongest stomach in the world.
She survived a party and got sick as a reward. I'd definitely have to do something nice for her in the morning.
