Ch 11 Wizards First Pokémon Battle

"And that's why Pokémon Centers are in every town," Helena finished with her lesson with her students.

Alec raises his hand, "Even the small towns, Mrs. Stone?" he asked with Lilipup on his lap.

Helena nodded as a reply. "Yes, Alec, even the small towns." She turns to the clock seeing the time is noon. "Alright everybody, time for lunch then recess."

All her students line up in a single-file line with their Pokémon by their side. "Alright, Marcus if the line leader this time," Helena points out, Marcus moves to the front of the line before they left for the cafeteria.

Helena watches her students go through the hallway, passing another class that just finished with their recess. "Good afternoon Helena," A fellow teacher greeted his coworker.

Helena blinks and smiles at him. "Afternoon, Greg. I see you're bringing your students back to your class." She started a small talk.

"Oh yes, I just had lunch," Greg replied before crossing his arms. "You know if you're looking for Roxanne, she's busy with a challenger today, actually I believe you have one yourself just waiting at the lobby of the battlefield." He points outside at the window where a teenage girl was standing near the door, waiting for her.

Helena looks outside the window, seeing the trainer with her Raboot next to her. "I see, well just give me a few minutes to get my students to lunch then I'll head over there." She informs her coworker.

Greg nodded, waving back at her. "Well good luck." He smiles. Helena chuckles before leading her class to the lunchroom.

Sirius, Remus, and Hermione walk around the huge city. "This city is huge when it's the day." Remus comment, never seeing a big city like Rustboro. He took a whiff before realizing something odd. "I-I can't smell like I used to." He said.

Sirius looks at the werewolf, confused about what he meant. "What do you mean Remy?" he asked his best mate.

"I mean I can't get a scent from anything." The werewolf explains to the Animagus. "I'm not sure how this happens but it happened." He said to the two.

Hermione thought for a moment, thinking of Remus's situation. "This might be a theory, but I believe that this world negates that is all magical. Even diseases such as lycanthropy." She concluded.

"How do you know that Hermione?" Sirius asked, wondering how she came up with the conclusion.

"Think about it, we're here in this strange world where we and Helena don't have our wands." Hermione points out before mentioning something else. "And didn't you notice last night was a full moon?"

Remus's eyes widen, realizing that last night was a full moon and he didn't change. "You're right, dear Merlin. I haven't transformed." He said, still comprehending that he didn't turn.

Sirius patted his friend on the back, happy that he didn't go through the pain again. "I'm happy for you Moony, now you can go out in the night to have some fun!" he smiles at the werewolf.

"Y-yeah, yeah you're right Sirius." Remus smiles, seeing this was a blessing in disguise. "This got to be a blessing."

"Good for you." Sirius cheered before they stop at a school. They looked at the building with a Pokeball logo "Is this the place that Helena works? It's more colorful than Hogwarts." he tilts his head, getting a good look at the building.

"Well it's an elementary school or a trainer school in Aden's words," Hermione commented, before coming up with a conclusion about her friend. "Oh my god! Helena's a schoolteacher!" she smiles loving the fact that her friend is a teacher.

Remus looks at the building, not really that surprised that this is Helena's job. "Well, it's not that surprising to me. Helena did get good grades when I was her Professor."

Sirius is still comprehending Helena's job, where he thought she's a badass cop or something like James. But she took Lily's route in her dream job. "I guess she's more like her mother than James." He said, a bit sadden but still proud of her for the woman she becomes.

"Sirius, aren't you proud of Helena?" Hermione gasps.

"Huh? Oh! Yeah, of course, I am!" Sirius exclaims, never going to doubt it. "I'm just surprised that she took her mother's dream job instead of James's," he explains to the young woman.

Remus crosses his arms, "Well don't be, Helena is more like Lily Sirius."

"I know, Moony-"

"Excuse me, are you challengers to the Battle School or the Gym?" They turn around to a black-haired woman with her hair strangely stylized and wearing the same uniform as Helena.

Hermione steps forward, "Um, sorry but challengers? Battle School? Can you explain it to us please?" She asked, unsure what she means by that. "We're rather new to this town, we were staying at a friend's house and decide to explore where she works." She explains to the woman before them.

"Oh? I'm guessing you three are from the boonies. Well, allow me to introduce myself, my name Roxanne the Gym Leader of the Rustboro Gym." Roxanne introduced herself to Helena's guest.

"Gym Leader?" Remus asked the young woman before them.

Roxanne blushed, inclining her heard to them. "I'm terribly sorry for not explaining." She stood up straight, "A Gym Leader is the leader of a Pokémon Gym. A Gym is where trainers go and get a Gym Bade after defeating us in a battle. It's the same process as the Frontier Facility but more advanced and stronger."

"H-Hold on, Battle? Badge? Can you explain it simpler please?" Hermione asked the black-haired woman. "It's still didn't get through our heads." She smiles apologetically.

Remus nodded, "Is there some way to explain it by showing an example of it?" The former Werewolf asks for more details of Hermione's question.

"Showing…I'm afraid that the Gym hasn't had any trai-hold on…" Roxanne took out her phone, opening it, and scroll down the list. "Aha! I knew she has an appointment right now." She laughs.

"Appointment?" Sirius asked watching her placing the rectangle object in her pocket.

Roxanne smiles, motioning them to follow her. "Helena is the strongest trainer I know other than Katelyn the final Frontier Brian and our Champion Steven Stone."

The word Champion and Steven's name together, creating more questions about this world. "Champion, that's an interesting title that Steven has. What does that mean?"

Roxanne looks at the sky, walking through the schoolyard. "Mmmm, it means he the defender and political leader of the Hoenn Region. Every Region has its own Champion-Oh we're here."

The trio looks at the Battle Facility, the place was huge approximately the size of the courtyard of Hogwarts. "What is this place? It's huge for a school like this." Remus asked the instructor.

"Roxanne?" Hermione looks at the young woman walking over to the doors. They all gasps at the glass doors open by themselves.

Roxanne looks back seeing the shocked expression that Helena's guest is showing. 'Probably they don't have this type of technology at their home.' She observes the trio behind her.

"Is this magic? How can the doors open like that!?" Sirius questions how the door operates, seeing no trigger or anyone to make it function.

Remus and Hermione too were in awe, they heard of many Muggle machinery before but nothing like this. "Roxanne, how does this door even work without a doorknob?"

"Um, it senses movement through that camera just above the door." Roxanne points to the small circular object on the framing of the door.

"I-I see, we never had anything like that back home," Hermione explains to the Gym Leader. "You see, our world is old fashion and technology like that is very scarce."

Roxanne understands what the bushy brunette is saying. Can't blame them that their society is outdated. "I completely understand, I'm not here to judge anyone here." She said politely. Suddenly a huge explosion came from the Battlefield behind.

"WHAT IN THE BLOODY HELL IS THAT!?" Sirius exclaims hearing another explosion.

"Is the school under attack?" Remus asked, concerned about the students in the school.

Hermione looks at Roxanne, completely calm in this situation. "Ah, I knew an explosion would happen at some point." She sighs.

"Roxanne?"

Roxanne looks at the group, waving her hand ensuring them that there's nothing to worry about. "There's nothing to worry about you guys, it's just Helena battling a challenger." She smiles.

"BATTLE!?" They exclaim that Helena is in a fight.

"We need to help here! We-"

The Gym Leader laughs, amused that Helena is in deep trouble. "Helena is just fine, she's strong." She motions them to follow her up the stairs to the bleachers.

Scizor digs his feet on the battlefield's dirt, he raises his claws at the opponent's Bisharp. "Scizor, are you alright?" Helena asked him.

"Zor," The Steel-Bug type responded.

Helena looks at her challenger, her Raboot was cheering on his friend. "Well then Chris, it seems your Bisharp is a strong one." She smiles, complementing her partner. "You trained him well."

The opponent, Chris smiles at her words. "Thanks, now Bisharp use Sucker Punch on Scizor!"

Bisharp launches himself to the Duel type, his fist glowed a reddish hue. "Dodge it and use Bullet punch as a counter!" Helena orders her partner.

Scizor vanished before slams his silver fist on the Sword Blade Pokemon's back. "BISHARP!" Chris called out to her partner.

"RABOOT!"

The Pincer Pokémon jumps back in front of his partner seeing Bisharp stumbling as he got up. "SHARP!" Bisharp cries, determined to win for his partner.

Chris smiles, giving a thumbs up to him. "Glad you're in the game Bisharp!" She held out her hand, feeling energized. "Use Night Slash!"

"BISHARP!" Bisharp's blades glowed a deep violet hue and launch once again at Scizor.

Helena smiles, liking how this Bisharp will do anything to succeed for his trainer. "Scizor," Scizor looks at her,

"Scizor, use Night Slash too!" Helena orders her partner to do the same as the opponent.

The claws on Scizor glowed the same violet hue as Bisharp. "SCIZOR!" The Duel Type launches himself too at Bisharp.

Roxanne walks into the bleachers, leading the guest of Helena to the seats. Hermione enters the battlefield, looking around the area. Her eyes draw over to the open field, her eyes widen at the sight. "WHAT THE HELL!?" She exclaims.

"Hermione, what are you shouting about-"

"Scizor! Use Iron Head on Bisharp!" Helena shouted his order.

Scizor head turns into a metal coating and charges at the Sharp Blade Pokemon. "Scizor!"

"Dodge it Bisharp!" Chris cried out,

Bisharp was about to dodge his attack when he appeared before him and slams into him. "SHAAARRRPPPP!"

Chris moves to the left, her Bisharp soar past her and impacted the reinforced steel walls. She opens her eyes seeing her partner unable to battle. "Bisharp!" She gasps.

Calvin rushed over to confirm that Bisharp is unable to battle. He raises his flag in the air, "Bisharp is unable to battle, the victor goes to Scizor and Helena! He announced.

The trainer held her Pokeball out to Bisharp. "Bisharp, return!" A red beam travels over to the unconscious Pokémon, returning him to inside. "You did great."

"W-What's happening? Is that creature-dear Merlin…" Remus covers his mouth, shocked at

what he just saw.

Hermione looks at Helena holding out the same Pokeball and called back Scizor. "Great job, Scizor," She looks at her challenger who is down to one more Pokémon,

"Chris, you're down to one Pokémon. Choose wisely." Helena informed the teenage girl.

"What is going on here? Why is that girl and Helena doing forcing those creatures into battle like that." Hermione blinks, feeling conflicted about all this.

Roxanne looks at Helena's friends, horrified at the sight before them. "I wouldn't worry, Pokémon are resilient creatures. We trainers train them, help them grow and evolve, through battle they grow stronger and learn alongside with the trainer." The teacher educated the three.

"B-But it seems all wrong," Hermione said to her with empathy for the creatures.

"I understand your stance on this matter, but we're not monsters." Roxanne ensures the worried teen. "We humans build Pokémon Centers everywhere. They help wild and captured Pokémon, didn't you see in the city how humans and Pokémon are together all the time?"

They all paused, remembering passing many people with these Pokémon by their sides. Some were playing, some who groomed them, and one was trying to get into a fight with another Pokémon only for its trainer to stop it.

"I-I remember now," Remus looks at the battlefield, Chris took out a Pokeball and threw it over to the field.

"Toxicroak! I need you!" A turquoise blue frog about the size of a human appeared on the field.

"Croak!" Toxicroak ribbits, readying for the final fight.

Hermione jumps from her seat, seeing the frog humanoid. "What is that!? It looks powerful!" she commented.

Helena smirks, seeing her plan. "A Poison Type, interesting choice." She took out her partner's Pokeball, trusting her to win this challenge.

"Yeah, Toxicroak is one of my strongest Pokémon." Chris points at Helena, knowing what Pokémon she always uses in the final round. "Since your partner is a Gardevoir, a Fairy-Type then I have the advantage!" She smirks.

Sirius looks at Helena, worried that this young girl knows her Pokémon's weakness then it's a lost battle for sure. "Helena, you can do this…" He prayed that she'll win.

"Is Helena going to choose another Pokémon or-"

Roxanne smirks, knowing how strong she really is. "I wouldn't worry about it. Helena is one of the top three Frontier Brains, she's just below Alister." She ensures her friend's friends.

"Frontier Brain…" Remus ponders about what it means, he snaps out of it when he heard Helena shout.

"Gardevoir! The light's on you!" Helena threw the Pokeball up high, releasing the same Pokémon the trio met.

Gardevoir landed gracefully on the field, inclining her head to the opponent. "Gardevoir,"

"Why did Helena choose Gardevoir when that girl clearly has the advantage?" Hermione asked, wondering why Helena chose an outmatched Pokémon in the battle.

Remus placed his hands on his chin, trying to figure out what's her plan. "I can't figure what she's planning, all the scenarios will come with the same outcome." He commented.

Roxanne giggles, "Ah that's how simply battling goes, however, Helena chooses to be…daring." She explains to them.

"I wonder what she has a plan."

Chris smirks, "Toxicroak! Use Poison Jab, on Gardevoir!"

Toxicroak jumps forward, his claw glowed a purple hue aiming for the Fairy Type.

Gardevoir calmly dodge each jab, the Duel-type was getting exhausted from each jab. "Now use Moon Blast!" Helena orders her partner.

The Fairy-Type jumps back, ready to attack the opponent. "Garde…" A silver moon appeared behind the Pokémon, her arms were centered harnessing her power.

"Toxicroak! Use Sucker Punch before Gardevoir releases her Moon Blast!" Chris orders the Poison Type.

Toxicroak jumps in the air, his fist has a dark aura around it. "Croak!"

Gardevoir saw the opening move and released her attack. "VOIR!" A white ball was released from her core, hurling towards Toxicroak; the impact causes him to fly back.

"CROAK!" Toxicroak hits the ground hard, causing cracks to form beneath him.

Chris gasps, seeing her strongest Pokemon defeated. "Toxicroak is unable to battle, the victor is the School Mistress, Helena!" Calvin points his flag at the other side.

Sirius, Remus, and Hermione cheered for Helena's victory over her opponent. "Way to go Helena!" Remus cheered, never felt so exhilarated from a battle before.

"That's my Goddaughter! Strongest of the strong!" Sirius exclaims proudly of his Goddaughter's victory.

Helena looks up at the stand, seeing her Godfather and friends cheering for her. She waves at them before walking up to Chris.

"You okay, Toxicroak?" Chris asked, helping her partner sitting up.

Helena reaches inside her pocket, taking out a hyper potion. "Here, Toxicroak will feel better after he takes this." She offers the fainted Pokémon's trainer.

Raboot took the hyper potion and brought it over to his partner. "Raboot,"

Chris smiles, taking the potion from her starter Pokémon. "Thanks, Raboot." She looks up at the Frontier Brain; her face serious as ever.

"You're strong, I can tell from the way you command your Pokémon. Your bond with them is also impressive." Helena smiles. "But you need to be less impulsive, have a strategy ready. You choosing Toxicroak is smart, but you both have a lot to learn."

Chris nodded, returning Toxicroak in his ball. "I know, next time I'll be you for sure Helena!" she smiles with determination.

"Raboot!" Raboot jumps in glee.

Helena giggles, "I'm looking forward to our rematch Chris." She guided her out of the field, watch her going to the Pokémon Center. Helena turns around seeing her friends standing behind her. "I see you all watched my match."

"T-That was wicked Helena!" Remus cheered like a child.

"How were you able to fight like that with your Pokémon!?" Hermione asked excitedly.

Sirius walks up to her goddaughter with the widest smile he has. "Explain how you were able to fight like that!"

Helena looks at Roxanne for help, only to see her shrug her shoulders. 'Roxanne! Why you're leaving me hanging!?' she mentally whines. She looks at her close friends with a smile. "W-Well, I learned it here at the Pokémon Trainer school. And yes, there are adult classes too."

"So where do we sign up?" Hermione asked, a bit curious about being a trainer.

Roxanne steps forward with a smile. "I can help with that."

Later that night, Helena and her friends were sitting at the dinner table with her family. "So how was your day honey?" Steven asked, serving dinner.

"It's pretty normal dear, I did have a challenger today-"

"Did you win Mommy!?" Aden asked his mother excitedly.

Hermione giggled at her friend's son. "Your mommy's strong, Aden. I saw defeat the challenger today." She smiles at the young boy.

Aden smiles proudly at his mother, "I knew it!" he giggles.

Everyone laughs at Aden's big enthusiastic personality, Steven smiles before looking at the paper in his pocket. Remus notices the paper in his hand, "Steven, what you got there in your pocket?"

Steven blinks, seeing everyone's eyes on him. "Steven?" Helena asked her husband, curious about what he has with him.

"W-Well, I was going to say this soon…" the steel-blue-haired man took out the paper from his pocket. "It's a flyer, promoting a festival for new trainers to come."

Sirius chuckles at the timing. "Speak about perfect timing, we three decided to be trainers. We're going to attend Helena's school to get a better understanding of the world."

"Really?" Aden jumps, "Am I going to see you all in the hallways like I do when my class passes mommy's?" he asked the three grown-ups before him.

Helena smoothes down Aden's steel-blue hair, "No sweetie, Uncle Sirius, and Remus along with Hermione is going to class after you leave school." She said to him tenderly.

"Sorry, kiddo." Sirius smiles softly at him.

Aden shook his head. "It's okay, Uncle Sirius!" He smiles.

"Uncle?"

"Yeah, that's what's Mommy call you and Uncle Remus; right?" Aden tilts his head, innocently at them.

Sirius and Remus smile at the little boy. "Sure, why not."

"Call us whatever you want kiddo." Sirius chuckles, receiving a bright smile.

Helena looks at her husband, curious about something. "Steven, there's always a performance during these events. What's going to happen there?"

Steven held the flyer, reding it to be sure. "Ah, how about that; it's taking place at Slateport City. Alister is performing there as well for the event." He informs them.

"Alister? Do you know him, Helena?" Hermione asked.

"Yes, he's known for his clothing stores around the regions; he's more famous for being in many Pokémon Performances in contests," Helena informs her studious friend. "Plus, he's the second strongest Frontier Brain at the Battle Boutique."

"Wow, first a school now a boutique. That's a lot of battle arenas." Sirius laughs.

"So, when are we leaving?" Remus asked the two.

Steven smirks. "Tomorrow morning, I rented a van for all of us to use." Cheers of excitement exploded within the dining room.

Helena chuckles at her husband's planning. "You always have something surprising in store, dear."

"Anything for my family, my love." Steven smiles at his wife, 'Now, let's finish our dinner and get ready for tomorrow!"
