AN: Here is where the fighting fun begins, though I try not to put too much into battle details. Mostly because if I wrote an epic fight it would transform poor Journal into an abomination. Enjoy!
Day 22
Leaving Nyx behind this morning was a pain but my little pup had no chance in battle. I did take note that I would need to hunt for food soon, she ate quite a lot. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hunt on the way back because we headed up the mountain this time. A good portion of the quilboar at Thorn Hill had decided to fortify the mountain with their thorn huts and we couldn't let them dig in too deep.
The first hut we found had two hunters inside with poisoned arrows. I discovered that unfortunate bit myself when a lucky shot got past my shield. Bullhorn cured it rather quickly once we noticed and the hunters hadn't stood a chance so we carried on. Note to self, try not to get poisoned again. It kinda burns.
The second hut was much the same so with a bit of knowledge we got the drop on the guards. The third surprised us when a third quilboar sent a lighting bolt into my shield. The shock of the electricity into the metal shield made my arm go numb and I had to seek cover while our hunters filled the quilboar with arrows. The hut burned swiftly after via torch and we carried on with more caution.
Altogether we managed to burn out nine huts before the quilboar were sending hunting squads after us. We made use of the terrain during our withdrawal to set up ambushes on our foes. I managed to score my first bow kill during one of those ambushes in fact. Most memorable moment goes to Bullhorn for punting a quilboar at least thirty feet beyond the cliff edge. The squeal rung out rather loudly before our laughter overwhelmed it.
We'd been fighting in the mountains for several hours and taking a break before another team further down the mountain caught our attention. They were using a similar tactic to ours but seemed to have missed a few camps as a mob of quilboar were flanking them while they were already in battle. Bullhorn amazed us all by shifting into a ghost wolf and bounding towards our allies.
I followed down in the best way I could, half scramble and half wall slide, leading the others to the nearest vantage point I could see. The quilboar beat us to battle but Bullhorn warned everyone in time and was currently shooting some serious lightning into the battle. I left the hunters on the ridge and slammed into the mass of quilboar, sending several tumbling off the trail as my fellow warrior followed me.
The fight started off in a brutal rush as I hacked at anything I could reach. The quilboar were packed tightly on the path due to being slammed by Bullhorn's magic and it didn't take long for bodies to fall and the ground to become treacherous. We'd managed to cull a quarter of our foes before my shieldbrother was taken down by a wounded quilboar that had lain still.
By the time I made it over to him he had slain both the quilboar he had been fighting and the one who stabbed him. I gave him one of my health potions and watched his wounds stop bleeding before a wave of healing energy bounced between us from Bullhorn. We returned to the fight just as fresh as we'd started and with rage boosting our strength, I think.
After the battle I witnessed Bullhorn demonstrate returning someone to life for Mugga and stared in awe as the tauren warrior awoke. That was way cooler when you weren't on the receiving end of it. I quietly handed Mugga my emergency mana potion when we were on our way back to base. I'd honestly rather he have it than have me carry it around forever and forget about it.
Nyx happily greeted me when I returned, bringing a smile to my face as I pet her. The little cutie was exactly what I needed after such a savage day. I fed us both and sat here to write because I want an early night. Farewell journal.
