A Sé (6)

A/N: No, it's not Friday. I am bored, and I realized this chapter was a lot shorter than I thought it was. Plus, it is EPOV of Ch 5's events so it is more of a bonus. Thank you as always for your support and reviews. I appreciate all the support and love. Thanks to my crew: SassyNoles, 2 brown eyes, BitterHarpy, AGoodWitch, and Maplestyle. Mel C beta's this, and she is amazing. Thank you and off we go!

EPOV

I stormed out the front door of my house and I was so keyed up; so angry that I almost felt like I was vibrating. The mouth on that woman had the ability to completely piss me off and turn me on at the same time. It was incredibly frustrating. I knew that coming at her upstairs was a mistake, and the fear in her eyes told me that I had scared her. Usually, she looked at me with sassy defiance and challenge, but this was different. She needed to be put in her place, though, if I wanted any chance of maintaining control.

I jumped in my SUV and peeled out of the driveway. My phone pinged with a message from Demetri. Esme told me to drive Bella home. Are you okay with that? That fucker. Of course, I wasn't fucking okay with it, but I would never go against my mother's orders. He better not get any ideas about Bella. She was an employee, and if he messed with her, I'd break his fucking legs. I didn't need shit getting more complicated. But see, Demetri knew his place. My mom may have asked him to do it, but I ranked above Demetri, so he knew not to step on any toes.

I don't give a fuck. For tonight, she's your problem. Good luck, I texted him back. I got a call from my dad just as I was about to throw my phone on the seat.

"Shit," I muttered. "Hey, Da."

"I'm not even going to ask you why there are two women in my kitchen drinking wine, but if you mess up this deal with Isabella, I will soundly beat your ass. I told you the other day that you are not to have an opinion other than helping her with what she needs."

"Dad, no disrespect, but she is a defiant, stubborn, willful woman, and she needs to learn her place."

"Her place is where I tell you it is. Fix it, Edward, or I will become truly angry!" He shouted and hung up the phone.

"Fuck." I threw my phone on the seat next to me. I drove around until Demetri texted me to let me know he was leaving the house with Bella. Now that the coast was clear and I had some time to cool off, I drove back home, but before I could escape upstairs, my mom called out to me from the hall.

"Are you out of your mind, Edward Anthony?" She asked, coming closer to me. "What is going on with you? This isn't how I raised you. Putting your hands on women, threatening them?" She was gesturing with her hands and then she crossed her arms, arching a brow at me in challenge.

I sighed. I was getting it from both sides tonight. "I didn't threaten her, Mom. Just 'cause she didn't like what I had to say doesn't mean I was threatening her."

She huffed and I glanced at her, seeing her arms still crossed and that look on her face. I had seen the "mom" look more than my fair share growing up, so I knew she was serious and giving her backtalk wasn't a smart decision. I didn't say anything, and we continued our stare down. Her face softened and I braced myself. "You scared her."

"Good." She needed to learn to keep that mouth in check. I had told her before that first meeting but apparently, she forgot.

"Edward," she chided.

"Ma, she's not from our world, I get it, but that doesn't mean that she can go off as a loose cannon. She's gonna get herself killed."

"This isn't about her safety, a leanbh, it's about the fact that she stands up for herself to you, and you can't stand that."

"I don't take orders from her."

"She went to school for eight years and then trained for another five. Your father and I have faith that she knows what she is doing and can make the right call judgment-wise. I really think that this is about you having feelings for her and not knowing what to do with them."

"Oh, Christ, Ma, not that again. I realize to you being single at thirty-four is weird, but I'm perfectly happy. Your dreams of having grandchildren are gonna have to rest on Alice."

"Whatever you need to tell yourself. You need to fix this, Edward, because you two will be spending a lot of time together, and you're just torturing yourself and her needlessly."

I sighed. "Fine, I'll talk to her tomorrow. I need to go grab some stuff."

"It's late, Edward. Just stay here."

I had just made it to my room, when my phone started ringing again, Emmet's name flashing on the screen. I groaned because I was expecting him to be unhappy about how I dealt with Bella tonight too. "What?" I snapped when I answered his call, wanting to let him get his rant over with so I could go to sleep

"Dude, what happened tonight? Bella is really pissed. She wouldn't tell me what happened. She said you don't respect her and you're like every other asshole who said she shouldn't be a doctor," Emmett explained.

This gave me pause because though I hadn't specifically said it, this all started when she thought I was questioning her qualifications. Her telling me to take it up with my dad had been what set me off. From there, it all just unraveled. I hated to admit it, but maybe there was a chance that this was my fault. "Fuck, she needs to remember her place, and I may have gone overboard reminding her of that."

"You're a fecker. You're about to make my life complicated. I'm gonna have to deal with your attitude when she pisses you off, and I'm gonna have to deal with a pissed off Rose when Bella bitches about you." Emmett complained.

While Emmett was below me in ranking, he had been my friend since we were in diapers, so there was a time to pull rank, and there was a time for us just to be friends. This was one of those latter times. "So, are you dating her sister?"

"Rose? She's a fucking cool chick, E. She laughs at my stupid jokes, cooks really well, and is hot as hell. She worries about Bella a lot, though."

"I'll talk to her, maybe apologize, but this is not a situation that will get fixed overnight. She runs her mouth and thinks that she can get away with it. She shows me nothing but disrespect."

"You may need to remember some advice that your mom has been drilling in our heads since we were little."

"Yeah, to get respect, you first need to give it." We both said simultaneously, repeating the phrase we had heard so much growing up.

"She deserves it. The way Rose tells it, she has no idea how Bella made it through everything that was going on and still got her license. She has worked her ass off since she was sixteen." Emmett confessed.

"Yeah." I looked at my watch. "Maybe I'll go over there now. I gotta let you go, man. See you tomorrow?"

"I'll be there at noon."

I hung up, pocketed my phone, and headed out to my SUV to go over to Bella's house. This shit needed to be settled now. When I got there, I used the spare key that she thought was well hidden and let myself in her house. The house was dark, except for a light coming from beneath her bedroom door. As I made my way into her room, I heard the sound of the shower running coming from the hall bathroom. Now I know it seems creepy that I just walked into her house, but I didn't want to wake her sister and I doubted that she would let me in if she was as pissed as Emmett had said. I ran my hand along the spines of the books on her bookshelf and looked around her room, taking in everything I could see without snooping or opening any of the drawers. I sat on her bed and waited for her to get done with her shower.

After the shower turned off, it took her a few minutes to come into the room, and I could very clearly see the glint of the knife she held in her hand. I suppressed the smile that wanted to erupt on my face, that really was fucking cute. I could disarm her so easily.

"You scared the shit out of me. What are you doing here?"

I told her why I was here, and she reminded me that everything was fine tonight until Jasper got shot. I tried to not think about what had happened at the club. I had truly started to have a good night, until I was reminded of reality. My reality wasn't dancing with a hot girl at a club; it was blood and violence and illegal shit. Jasper had been taking a meeting that I was supposed to be attending, but he needed to step up and learn more responsibility. When my dad retired, he was going to be filling my role, as I took over my dad's. That was set in stone the minute he proposed to Alice, and there would be no changing it.

As we argued, I realized that she was a lot stronger than I gave her credit for. Maybe not physically but emotionally. There was a possibility that she would be able to deal with the shit she would see doing this job. Her world and mine were vastly different, and my biggest concern was that she wouldn't be able to handle it. As I watched her defend herself and also hand me my ass, I was stunned by how beautiful she actually was. Sure, the night I had met her, I knew she was good looking, and her sassy mouth and sharp tongue intrigued me, but her venomous words and attitude made me want to throttle her. She was shorter than me by more than a foot, and she was petite. It was really hard not to want to dominate her.

I told her that we needed a clean slate, and I meant it. The shit we had fought over was water under the bridge. I really couldn't help it, but I got up in her space again, pressing her to the wall. I remembered her telling me not to touch her, so I kept my weight off her and told her that from this point, it was my job to protect her. I had a feeling it was going to be a full-time job, too, with her mouth.

When she invited me to stay the night in her house, I knew the temptation would be too much, and I told her so. The look on her face made it worth it, a cross between shock and frustration. Once I got back to my vehicle, I headed back home. I knew that Emmett was gonna be there at noon, and then we had to go take care of some business, but first thing in the morning, I was getting my replacement car from the wreck. I was still pissed off that those Italian punks had to retaliate by totaling my Aston Martin. Agitated all over again, I popped a sleeping pill and passed out, definitely not thinking of a certain brunette.

A/N: So, there you have it. Mama Esme yelled at him, Papa C wasn't happy, and even Emmett stood up for her. Methinks someone has stolen the Cullen family's hearts. I will post on Friday as regularly scheduled and we will be back with BPOV next week. What did you think? More of a dick, less of a dick, still on the fence. Leave a review and let me know. See you Friday lovelies!
