Chapter 11

Author's Note

I am SO sorry I have left you guys hanging for the past few weeks. This is my only story where I don't have the chapters prewritten, so I have to write and catch it up to update. And to be completely honest, I had a bit of a moment where I pushed this story to the back to focus on some other things. Thankfully, I'm back on track, and with university being let out for summer, I'll have less stress and therefore more time to write. Nonetheless, thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy Chapter 11!
And also, I do hope this excuse is suffice enough as to why I didn't update sooner, but... I recently got engaged. :)
Do leave those reviews, please, lovelies, I miss seeing them!

Reviews

Supernove Space- My brother loves astronomy! He's in high school now. :') And yeah, Percy needs common sense squeezed into his little seaweed-filled brain! I hope this chapter sort of makes up for the long update wait!

TheProudPearl24- Oh, don't worry! I'm not easily offended. Here's the next chapter for you! :D

Something-PJO-Idk- I LOVE your username. I laughed for a whole five minutes seeing it. Anyways, I do so love HSM! Miss Bree is actually based off of Ms. Darbus, glad that was noticed! And Jason didn't have a role in the play, he's more of a background character. I've got to be honest, Jason isn't my favourite so I kind of just pushed him to the back. Maybe in a future story he'll have more importance! :D

NightMareAV- Here it is! :)

No One's POV

From past experience, Percy knew he probably shouldn't break up with Rachel over text.

If Annabeth's reaction had not gone over well, what would Rachel's reaction be? Percy wasn't going to risk possibly being murdered in his sleep, so he settled for inviting her for coffee then the park.

Was that a good idea?

Maybe not, he wasn't sure, but that's what he did.

He texted her at 9am in the morning to give her the sufficient two hours she always needed to get ready and then he picked her up and they walked to the local coffee store, ordering their usuals before heading off to the park.

The entire time Rachel yammered on and on about the play and all the other boring gossip she had heard over the past few days, and Percy tried not to sigh in annoyance.

It was all she ever talked about. Either it was fashion, gossip, or the play. That was it.

Percy was kind of glad he wouldn't have to go through that anymore.

As they sat down at a bench, Percy inched away from her and cleared his throat. "Rachel?"

Rachel paused in her chatter. "Hm?"

"I… Um, I think we need to break-up."

Rachel dropped her coffee.

The lid slid off and the brown liquid spilled out, seeping onto the pavement. Rachel stood up with a huff, being careful not to step in the coffee and not ruin her shoes.

Percy resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

Rachel crossed arms and her gold bracelets jangled angrily. "Why? What do you mean by that?" Her cheeks were growing pink with anger. "Is it Annabeth? Damn it, I knew there was something-"

"Woah, woah!" Percy shook his head. "No, no… That's not it. I just.. I don't want to be in this relationship anymore. I'm not invested in it, and you're, um, a great girl-"

Rachel tutted, huffing again. "I don't want none of that bullshit! You know what? You're a fucker, Percy Jackson. Why would you break up with me of all people?" She closed her eyes and sighed, her eyebrows furrowing. "Whatever. It's not like you really mattered to me anyways!"

The words should have stung.

But they didn't.

Percy watched as Rachel left, pulling her phone out of her purse and leaving Percy on the bench.

So much for it going smoothly, but he felt so much better.

Percy finished his drink and bent down to pick up the fallen cup. He nodded in acknowledgement when the maintenance worker smiled gratefully at him as he threw away the cups.

As Percy walked home, he smiled softly, his hands stuck in his pockets.

He felt much lighter than he had in days.

"Dude, why is Rachel staring at you like you murdered her cat?" Will asked during the break in the next rehearsal.

The group was sitting on the stage, legs dangling off of the platform while Annabeth and Piper sat on the floor in front of them with Hazel, comparing notes on their scripts.

"Should I be concerned that was the first thing your mind went to?" Nico asked and Will laughed, kissing his cheek.

"Maybe," Will looked back towards Percy. "Give us the deets, Perce."

Percy shrugged. "I broke up with her a few days ago." He said absentmindedly as he unwrapped his granola bar.

Annabeth choked on her water.

Will cheered, pumping his fist in the air as Hazel laughed. "Fucking finally! You were miserable with her, bro, and I could see it, even if we haven't known each other that long."

"Glad to know you took my advice, Perce." Piper piped up, chuckling as she chucked her empty water bottle at him. He yelped as he ducked and flipped her off.

"Yeah, she was a damn she-devil. I'm glad… Uh, Annabeth, you good?" Nico raised his eyebrows at the blonde, who was still coughing, a half-empty water bottle in her hand.

She nodded through teary eyes from her coughing fit and Piper patted her back with a smirk on her face.

"You alright, Wise Girl?"

Annabeth flushed, nodding furiously. "Just fine."

"You sure?"

"Yeah, just…" Her grey eyes flitted to his, eyebrows furrowed as she stared at him. "Just surprised you had the guts to break up with her, in-person nonetheless."

The jab didn't bother Percy. He laughed and shrugged goofily and Annabeth looked away. Piper took the opportunity to pounce.

"Soo! Percy, you're single now?" She nudged him and he rolled his eyes, although his gaze was still trained on Annabeth.

"You're not single, though." Hazel said pointedly, gesturing towards Piper. The girl grinned.

"I'm not, but I'm Percy's wingwoman! You're single now, Perce!"

"Hey, who assigned you the position of his wingwoman? I'd be a better one!" Will argued and Nico rolled his eyes.

"Single," Percy murmured under his breath and Annabeth gave a small chuckle.

"That's you, apparently."

"Yeah. I guess that is me." he said softly, his eyes searing into Annabeth's.
