Stefan arrived at a storage locker, which he quickly opened and entered to find two coffins side-by-side. One held Elena, who last Damon knew was still under Kai's magical coma spell, and when Stefan opened the other, it revealed to hold a desiccated but still alive Damon. Stefan pulled out a blood bag, frantically starting to force the blood down Damon's throat causing his big brother to pant and cough. "Damon, wake up! I need you! Wake up!" As he continued to force the blood down Damon's throat, Damon remained desiccated and still, causing Stefan to shout at him. "Damon, wake the hell up!" Then all of a sudden,Damon's skin turned from gray to pinkish white. His eyes snapped open just as he gasped for breath and sat up, blood still dripping down his chin.
"I told you not to bother me until Elena was awake!" Damon said angrily. "Well lets just say brother things have gotten a little complicated." "Complicated how Steffy? What the hell did you do?" "It's better if I show you." Stefan insisted, Damon got out of the coffin only to see that Elena's was empty. "What the hell brother! Where is she?!" Just then they heard footsteps from behind them. "Stefan?She's asking for him." Bonnie said. "Bon Bon, what's going on?" Damon asked. "Don't ask questions, just go to your car." Damon did as she said. And when he reached his car he thought he was dreaming. "Elena? I must be dreaming, this can't be real." Damon saw what appeared to be his girl pacing back and forth by his car. "Damon! You're okay? Oh thank god. I was so worried. I told you I wanted you to live your life." Elena said with tears forming in her eyes. "But I don't understand, how are you here?" "Bonnie broke the spell." Elena explained. We can be together now, be human. If that's what you still want." He could hear her human heart beating. She was still in the dress she wore when she was laid to sleep in the coffin. And somehow she never aged. "Of course I want that life with you, but are you sure you want that with everything." Damon said looking at the ground.
"Damon Salvatore, how could you even say that, every single second that I was under that sleeping spell you were the only thing keeping me from going crazy. I imagined our lives together, I imagined all of us spending the holidays together in the boarding house with all of our kids, hell I even imagined Jer bringing home some girl that we would hate and Bonnie would get insanely jealous. And you would get pissed at Jeremy for bringing someone home unannounced." "Well you don't have to worry about Bonnie getting jealous over Jeremy, however if your brother does decide to ever show up again, he's been kind of a ghost, no pun intended, since you had your magical nap, he might decide to go full hunter on Bon Bons new boyfriend, trust me, when I found out about it, which was literally seconds ago from peeking at Bonnie's phone, I almost lost the blood bag I was fed." Damon said slightly pissed off at the younger Gilbert. Bonnie grimaced at Damon realizing he had seen the picture of Enzo and her on her phone's lock screen.
"Damon please look at me." Elena pleaded. "I'm sorry baby, I'm just having a hard time believing that this isn't some sort of dream." "What can I do to convince you. I know that somewhere in that crazy head of yours you are probably thinking that this is some crazy stunt by Katherine. But it's not Damon, Katherine can't hurt us anymore." Damon looked to Bonnie for reassurance. "Damon, this is happening, and we are the only four who know about it, and given that Elena is here a lot sooner than we all anticipated, I really think we need to tell her what she's gonna face when we go home." "Bon, I cant. I can't go home. I left you all." Damon turned away, but Elena grabbed his arm. "No! Damon, you can't blame yourself for what happened. Take it from someone who literally had to have every happy memory of us wiped from my mind when I thought you were gone for good. I understand. But I want to go home Damon, I want to see the rest of our friends and family. I want to sleep in our bed and wake up with you by my side, and know that I'm not under some spell imagining it all." "Let's go home. And call everyone, let them know I'm coming back with a surprise." Damon announced
A while later as they arrived back in Mystic Falls, Elena couldn't help but want to jump out of the car when they drove by special places. Suddenly she grabbed her head as if she was in pain. "Lena, are you okay." Damon asked concerned. "I think so, I don't know it was weird, it was like I was remembering things that I haven't lived through, it was like when I took the cure and got my memories back except this time they weren't my memories, or maybe they were, a lot of what I saw was things that happened to me during the sleeping spell, you and I imagining our human life together. Things like that. And I think maybe somewhere in my subconscious maybe I thought that those events were real." "I'm sorry I wasn't there to make things better." Damon said sweetly. "It's alright, I'm just glad I'm here now. So Bonnie where are we going?" "Well first we're headed back to Damon's place, let you get settled. Then when you're ready, I'll call everyone and they can stop by over there." Bonnie explained.
As they pulled into the driveway of the boarding house, Elena breathed a sigh of relief,she was just happy to be home. "So you two get settled, I'm gonna make a pot of coffee." Bonnie added. "Great, I'm gonna go upstairs and shower, I suddenly realized how long I've been wearing this dress and I need to get it off." As she started up the stairs she turned back to Damon, "You coming?" "Yeah, in a minute, there's just something I need to take care of." Damon said vaguely. "Oh okay." Elena frowned.
"Okay Damon, what gives? I know you, and I have know idea what that was." Bonnie asked. Damon vamp sped over to the drink cart and reached inside the spare ice bucket. "This! This Bonnie is what I needed to take care of." "Is that what I think it is." "Well if you think it's an engagement ring that I was planning to give to Elena when we took the cure together, then yes that is exactly what this is. But due to my horrible wench of a mother, and her selfish needs, my epic plan was crushed. But now thanks to my favorite Bennett witch, I get to make my plan even more epic then the first time." "Oh god!" Bonnie sighed covering her face with both of her hands. "Relax Bon Bon it's gonna be great. Here Steffy, hide this somewhere where my girl wont think to look. And dont be stupid and let Care bear find it either. We don't need her thinking you actually want to commit this time around." Damon joked with the last part. "Very funny brother, maybe I'll take a page from you and hide it in the soap dish." "One time, brother, one time and you never let me forget it. And speaking of that, why did it seem oddly quiet when we drove through town today, like its almost as if we are finally through with all the supernatural crap." Damon said. Bonnie snickered under breath.
"What's so funny Bonnie?" Damon asked. "The town is quiet because for some reason there really hasn't been much supernatural activity lately, I think its nature finding a balance, or was natures way of finding a balance for me being able to break the spell. Honestly who knows." Bonnie told them. "I never asked, how'd you do it Bon Bon?" "Well lets just say I have my ways of getting people to talk." "Hold on did you do your weird brain melty thing on my horrible mother?" Damon asked. "Mhmmm, I sure did, and she gave up everything, turns out she has weak spots too." "Oh wow. But what about Julian and her den of wackos?" Damon asked. "Well Stefan and I noticed Julian was being very controlling and we have him locked in the basement. The cell is spelled shut, thanks to some help from Valerie." "So that explains the extra car in the driveway, no wonder why Care Bear moved to Dallas with Ric. Because you had to royally screw up the best thing that's ever come into your life Stefan." "Tell me something I don't know, Valerie and I aren't even together anymore we realized that it's better for everyone involved if we were just friends." "Oh cut the crap Stef, I know you still care for Caroline, when you truly fall for someone you can't just let go of that. And besides there was only one other time when I knew you to care this deeply about someone and the good thing is this time around the woman you love isn't a Petrova doppelgänger or the love of my life." Damon half joked. "That being said brother, whether I love Caroline or not she has moved on, she is with Ric now." "Okay gross, we both know she's not in love with him and she is only with him because she likes the idea of having her nice little 'normal' family." Damon reminded him.
"You might want to call Caroline Stefan, Damon you should call Ric and Jeremy." Bonnie told them trying to change the subject so things wouldn't escalate into a random fight. "Bad idea, Bon Bon, I will call Ric, Stefan will call Jeremy and you will call Care Bear, it just makes more sense and it will work out a lot better for everyone involved." Damon added. "But right now I need to go fix things with my girl, oh and you guys can fight over who wants to call Matt, I'm sure he doesn't want to hear from me right now." Damon explained "And for the love of god can you see to it that Valerie isn't here when my favorite blonde vampire gets here, the last thing we need is a cat fight." "Don't worry Damon I was just leaving, I was just checking on Julian. I'm looking into some spells to also see if we can have him wiped from your mother's mind. After all Julians wrath pretty scared the rest of our family off and I can't track them. Lilly is better off forgetting that he ever existed trust me." Valerie said almost angry, she looked to Stefan for some sort of comfort. "Valerie, I know he is a monster. And you're right my mother is better off without him."
Once Damon reached his bedroom it finally hit him when he heard her singing in the shower. She was really here and she was here for good. Elena stopped singing and walked out to the bedroom without a stitch of clothing on. "Oh you're here." "Yeah I just had to take care of something that unfortunately required Stefans help. But now I am all yours. That is if you still want me to join you?" "Of course I do Damon, is everything okay, the town isn't going to burst into flames or something is it?" Elena looked concerned. "Oh no, nothing like that. We were just basically catching up on what I missed since I desiccated by your side, and how it's been oddly quiet as far as supernatural danger was in Dallas last I knew with Caroline and the twins, it's a long story which I will get into later. However I still think Care Bear carries a torch for my martyr of a brother. Hell I know Stefan still loves her,you can see it all over his face when someone brings her up. He's like a lovesick puppy. Except he's too stubborn to admit it." "Did they ever get together while I was gone Damon?" "Well, it's complicated, yes and no, let's just say they are more complicated than Rachel and Ross from friends." "Wow. You mentioned that Bonnie is dating someone." "Yeah and before you ask if I found out anything the answer is no, I just know the guy really well, and hopefully he treats her well. But honestly Elena I would warn Jeremy about it if you talk to him before he comes home. Because when he finds out it might get a little messy." "Why? Who the hell is Bonnie dating!?" "Okay well I'm just as upset about this as you are going to be, because honestly even though he left there is a part of me that trusts your brother with her more." "Just spit it out Damon!" Elena said frustrated.
"She's dating Enzo. Okay, I don't know how or why it happened but I think it might have had something to do with my absence and between the two of them they had each other." Elena giggled. "What's so funny?" "You managed to make Enzo and Bonnie's relationship about you." Elena laughed lightly. "I'll give you something to laugh at..." And before she had a second to think he kissed her and picked her up carrying her to their bed. Damon teased her with his eyes and then all of a sudden began tickling her. "Ahhh! Damon! Nooo! That tickles!" "I know that's the point,silly." Damon teased with a smile, tickling her all over, and randomly kissing her neck to throw her off. " You know this is really unfair. You are still dressed and you nearly have me pinned to the bed." Elena blushed. "I never thought I would hear you complain about being in a compromising position." Damon winked. Elena wriggled an arm free and pulled a pillow out from behind her head, playfully whacking Damon in the head. "Got ya!" Elena cheered. "Yes you do." Damon said shaking off the light sting on the side of his head. "You hit me quite hard , whatever will I do with you?" "I think you could figure something out." Elena purred.
Meanwhile Bonnie called Caroline and Stefan called Jeremy. "Well that was awkward." Stefan told Bonnie just after getting off the phone with Jeremy. "Why?" "Because I just basically told him to come home, that he was needed here, I didn't give any explanation or anything, and I could hear Tyler in the background too, which was odd." "No it's not odd Stefan, Tyler told me a while ago that he got an apartment and had a roommate that only lived there every so often. I thought it sounded strange but now it all makes sense." " What are you talking about?" "Think about it. What are Jer and Ty really good at other than art." " Being protective of the the ones they care about." "Yeah, and Jeremy left after Elena was cursed, and so did Tyler at least for a few weeks at a time. I think their hunting vampires and other supernatural things together." "Elenas not gonna like that." Stefan added. "How did the call with Caroline go?" Stefan asked. "Well not that you care or anything, but she's having a hard time, she said she feels isolated in Dallas she can hear people judging her because of how young she looks and the whole Ric thing. She really wants to come home for good." Bonnie explained. "She said she wants to come home?" Stefan suddenly perked up. "Not exactly but I could just tell, especially when I told her that I had a surprise waiting for her back here that she had to physically be here for her tone changed completely." "Interesting. I wonder if she told Ric? I wonder if he suspects anything?"Stefan pondered. "I wonder if Damon called him yet. But then again, if he had, Caroline would have been freaking out in more ways than one."Bonnie noted.
Back up stairs Damon was straddling Elena's hips and had stripped down to his Calvin Clien boxer briefs, he was fighting the urge to to have his way with her right then and there, and he really was having a hard time, especially since Elena kept touching him in his most sensitive places. "Damon, please, I want this. I want you. Don't you want me?" "Oh of course I do, I think you already know my brother and our best friend are downstairs, one of which has super hearing and I don't want to listen to him complain." Damon explained."Oh, well then maybe we should just hop back in the shower and not worry about all this because we are going to see them later and we both know we are going to get an earful from Caroline anyways when she gets here. I just really want to be with you right now. I feel like I have waited an eternity to be with you again." Elena told him. Damon scooped her up in his arm, causing a little yelp to escape her lips. " Don't worry baby, I'm here, and I'm never letting you go again."
