So last time I wrote a Dawn-centric fic, the fic being 'If your wings are broken please take mine', it was sad as hell due to Dawn grieving Tara's death, this time I decided to do something happier.
This is basically fluff about Tillow and their kid that is Dawn, and takes place after 5x6.
Thank you to Brainstorm Sorcerer for some suggestions as well.
Hope all enjoy.
Willow was lying next to Tara in their dorm room with closed, both naked and covered only with bedsheets. Willow had a pleased expression on her face since this was the best day of her life. It was Tara's birthday, and they had driven her abusive family away when they'd tried to take her.
And then the two had hover-danced at the Bronze, it was so romantic and peaceful. Willow had thought she'd never find love after Oz, but she had been blessed with Tara now, and she intended to never let her go.
As Willow was about to drift from these thoughts into sleep, she suddenly heard Tara breathing fast, and then her eyes opened with a gasp.
Willow turned to her in concern as Tara took some deep breaths in and out, trying to calm herself down.
Willow then sat up in bed, stroking Tara's face. "What's the matter, honey?"
Tara got up, and Willow noticed she had a tear, which she immediately wiped as Tara rubbed her head and then shook it.
"Any problem?" Willow asked, holding her by the face.
"Bad dream", Tara said, looking scared of the nightmare she'd just had. "It was….my family….they took me away…."
More tears were rolling down her cheeks as Willow kissed her forehead and then hugged her. "Hey, I'm here, all right? They're gone, they're not in town anymore, they won't take you anywhere."
"I know", Tara said into Willow's shoulder. "It's just….."
"You know what? Let's go out tomorrow", Willow said as they parted. "It's a holiday, we can do something."
"Really? Like anything?" Tara asked.
"Sure", Willow said with a smile, and got Tara's lovely and crooked smile in return too, which was the most beautiful thing she'd seen in the world.
Next day, Magic Box
The shop was still open as Giles and Anya were selling stuff, and Buffy was training in the backroom with help from Xander.
Willow and Tara were sitting together, reading a spell book as Willow said. "Maybe we should try this one sometime."
"It's quite risky even for me", Tara told her.
"Well, we'll make sure we have it all right before we do it", Willow said and Tara nodded with a smile.
Dawn had just finished her homework and was going out as Tara asked. "Where're you going, Dawnie?"
"Back home", Dawn sighed. "Work's done."
Willow looked between them as Tara asked. "Uhhh, we were going out, would you like to-"
"Really?" Dawn asked with a happy smile.
"Really", Willow told her with a nod and smile of her own, realizing that having Dawn would actually make the day better.
"All right, I'm just telling Buffy and then I'll come", Dawn said excitedly as she ran to do just that.
Later
Willow and Tara were holding hands and walking together in a park as Dawn walked in their front, looking around.
"Thank you for letting her come", Tara told Willow.
"Oh come on, I love her too", Willow said to Tara. "How could I not bring her after you asked?"
The two smiled and kissed as Dawn sat down on a bench, looking at a swing in the front as Tara asked. "You wanna sit on it?"
"I think I'm a bit too old for it", Dawn said, though she didn't really mean it due to how shy she sounded.
"Come on, I push Tara on these all the time", Willow told her as Tara chuckled.
"You do?" Dawn asked and Tara nodded. "All right then."
She ran to the swing excitedly as the two women followed her, holding hands while Dawn sat on the swing, and Tara grasped the swing from behind.
"Buffy used to push me on these when I was younger", Dawn said with a fond smile as she remembered the good old times.
"Well, just because she isn't any more doesn't mean you have to give up on life's joys", Tara said as she pulled the swing back. "One, two-"
And then she pushed the swing. "Three!"
Dawn laughed happily as the swing went up and came back down. "That was great. Thanks a lot."
"No need to thank me", Tara said as she pushed the swing again to Dawn's excitement while Willow watched with a smile, happy to see her girlfriend looking so happy and peaceful after the nightmare.
Later
The three sat down at a table, eating some ice cream as Dawn said happily. "That was so amazing, thank you! Can we do it again some other time?"
"If there's another time where all three of us are free, we definitely will", Willow said as she patted Dawn's head.
"Thank you", Dawn said as she ate some of her ice cream.
"This was wonderful", Tara said as she took a bite out of her ice cream while looking at Willow. "Thank you for today, it means a lot."
"Again, for you anything, especially after last night", Willow said, kissing Tara's forehead.
"What happened last night?" Dawn asked out of curiosity, making Willow cringe as she realized she'd spilled the beans.
"Sorry", she lamely apologized to Tara.
"It's okay, honey", Tara assured her.
"Did your family come again or anything?" Dawn asked. "Tell me where they are and I'll beat them up."
The two shared a chuckle at the teenager's fierce love for Tara as Tara assured. "No, they didn't come again. I just had a nightmare that they took me away."
"Oh", Dawn muttered glumly. "I hate nightmares, they ruin the sleep and scare you. As bad as thunderstorms."
"Yeah, they really are", Tara nodded.
"But, they're not real", Dawn smiled. "Your family may have the 'Maclay' name, but they weren't your family. Real families don't lie to their women that they have Demon in them to control them. And they don't threaten to beat you up if you don't do what they say. I mean, Buffy can be all high and important sometimes, but she never does that to me, because she's a good person. Your brother and dad weren't. And we won't let them take you, ever, we are your family."
Tara had another bright and grateful smile at the young girl's words as she kissed Dawn on the forehead. "Thank you Dawnie."
"It's all right, what is family for?" Dawn asked as she went to take a bite of her ice cream but accidentally put some on her nose.
Tara took out a napkin and wiped her nose while Willow watched with a smile.
"Wanna thumb wrestle?" Dawn then asked.
"Sure", Tara shrugged as they put their hands together and started thumb wrestling.
"Winner takes on me", Willow said with raised arms as the two chuckled and started playing.
This day belonged to this unlikely but sweet family of three.
And done, hope all enjoyed this.
I call these three together as 'the unlikely but sweet family of three' or 'the precious trio', because that's what they are to me.
Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with some other update. Stay safe from the coronavirus ya all!
