I don't own Fairy Tail
'Game Over'
Well, that's new. Then again, waking up in a white room with bright red letters flashing should be odd for everyone.
Beyond those two words, there was nothing, absolutely nothing. Try to at least look down at my hands, nope, nothing there, no me, except for my thoughts.
Thoughts that are surprisingly calm and lack any sort of meaning. I remember watching television and seeing movies. I remember reading books and manga, I remember what was taught in school, language, science and the like, but I remember no faces, no names, not even my own.
All I know about myself is the two words flashing on the screen in front of me.
'Reincarnation cycle continuing'
Well, that's ominous, and the large game show wheel that appeared under the words didn't fill me with much confidence either.
The wheel spun quickly until the little ticker stopped on a bright red and orange tile with words too far away for me to read.
'World selected, Enter player name.'
Under the words this time was a blank rectangle, a name bar. And I don't even know my own name. Well with all the white around me might as well go with that.
"White." I called, though how I did that when I'm pretty sure I don't have a mouth is beyond me.
'White, translating into native language. Welcome Shiro.'
Shiro, sounds good, better than white at least.
'Starting location randomizer'
Another wheel spin, this time landing on a light blue tile.
'Appearance randomizer'
This time when the wheel stopped, a sensation like a punch in the gut struck me and I doubled over, my hands catching me before I hit some invisible floor. Except now I could SEE my hands. My complexion was an orangy tone, almost bronze. My hands were small too, those of a child instead of, well, I'm pretty sure I was an adult before, at the very least fully grown. I ran my hand through my hair, finding it to be medium length and was white like fresh snow.
'Magical talent randomizer'
Another wheel spin, stopping on a brown tile, but the title got me thinking, magic. That certainly hadn't been real before, just a figment of every child's imagination. But apparently I would get my chance to bring magic to life, that certainly was a silver lining to whatever the heck I managed to get myself involved in.
'Game Start, good luck Shiro.'
And with one final message displayed above me, the pale world around me faded to black.
I woke up under a thick heavily patched quilt. No sudden swirling, no intense feelings of nausea. It was like I had dreamed the whole thing. Except for the fact I am pretty sure I never lived in a log cabin. Rolling off the thin cot and pushing the blanket aside, I looked around the room with a careful eye. The bed I had gotten off was a lower bunk, one of two sets in the room. All three of the other beds were empty. The one door out of the room led to a hallway lined with doors, each leading to a similar room, all of which were empty.
Down two flights of stairs was a large sitting room attached to an even larger dining room, filled to the brim with other children, all grabbing at a meal spread over the table.
"Shiro, I wasn't sure if you were feeling well enough to come down yet, but you look much better, why don't you try and eat some soup to keep the fever away." A kindly matron carrying a large steaming pot said to me.
She looked plain, brown hair and eyes, simple clothing, but the floating name above her head definitely caught my eye.
Ksume Batei
Lv. 13
I just nodded and took a seat, looking around the room carefully, all the children and the other older women all had a name and level attached to them. The highest level was 20, belonging to the older woman who sat at the head of the table
Aia Batei- Orphanage Matron
Lv. 20
Unlike the others, she had a title displayed next to her name. I ate slowly, taking it all in, letting my mind work with what I saw and the white room. Both the white room and now the names floating above everyone's heads looked exactly like a video game, a game I was playing, no, that I was the main character of.
Going by that thought process…
"Status." I whispered quietly, and jerking back slightly when something actually happened.
Shiro- (no title)
Lv. 1 (0/100)
HP- 100/100
MP- 50/50
STR- 1
DEX- 1
CON- 1
WIS- 1
INT- 1
CHA- 1
Points- 5
Money- 0J
'Orphaned when his family was caught in a snowstorm, Shiro is a quiet child, one who can become anything he chooses to become.'
After staring at the screen for a while, my brain started working again and I kept eating while reading over the screen.
Put simply, my stats were complete shit, but they were all equally terrible, which meant I could choose to spend points to become anything. And starting with 5 stat points right out of the gate probably means I'll get five for every level, which means I can grow my stats quickly, or save mass amounts for a rainy day.
Ping!
The dinging sound almost made me drop my spoon in surprise.
For thinking logically and planning in advance, you have gained +1 INT
The message hovered in front of me until a flick of my hand brushed it away and it faded. My stats now read
STR- 1
DEX- 1
CON- 1
WIS- 1
INT- 2
CHA- 1
And just like that doors were opened, if just thinking gave me intelligence, then working out should affect the physical three stats, wisdom was probably increased through making wise choices, which left charisma, going off the Dungeons and Dragons explanation, it was my people skills and generally a throwaway stat. But now I'll have to actually interact with people so it becomes a whole lot more important.
Clicking on the stats explained each one.
Strength- The amount of physical strength you have. Also effects total Stamina points, (Base 50 + 50 per 10 points)
Dexterity- How fast and flexibly you can move. Also effects Stamina regeneration (Base 10% per minute + 2% per 10 points)
Constitution- The natural toughness of your body. Affects your total Hitpoints (Base 100 + 100 per 10 points) and Hitpoint regeneration (Base 10% per minute + 2% per 10 points)
Wisdom- Your ability to come up with new ideas and think outside the box. Also effects Magic point regeneration. (1% per 5 minutes for every point in Wis)
Intelligence- How much you actually know and your capacity to plan logically. Also effects total Magic point growth per level.
Charisma- How well you interact with other people in all walks of life. Also determines your luck.
Those explanations certainly cleared some things up for me as I finished my meal. I was about to get up when Aia, the matron, spoke up, "Shiro, since you've been sick you missed your chore day, so you have to do the dishes tonight."
It would seem chores have followed me into my next life, not really what I wanted my first day in a magical world, but oh well.
Ping!
Quest Alert!
Do the dishes.
Reward- 10 exp
Failure- Nothing
Do you accept? Y/N
And suddenly, dishes looked a lot more appealing. Free experience here I come.
I nodded at the matron and hopped from my seat, making my way into the kitchen. Standing on a stool to reach the sink was somewhat humiliating, but I got each and every bowl, spoon and pot done.
"Good job Shiro, now head to bed, don't want you getting sick again." the matron said and I grinned at her.
Ping!
Quest complete!
Reward- 10 exp
Lv. 1 (10/100)
And just like that I'm on my way.
Ping!
New skill created- Maintenance Lv. 1(13%)
Maintain what you've got.
Apply a 1% bonus to the object you've maintained for 10 minutes
Well, that sounds great for weapons and armor and such, but how does one give a bonus to a spoon?"
I sent a curious look at one of the spoons I just washed, watching it closely when I heard another ping.
Ping!
New skill created- Observe Lv. 1(2%)
By looking at people and things, you can tell more about them.
Wooden Spoon- F class item
A simple wooden spoon, gives 1% more nutrition and deals 1% more dmg(9:22)
Well, observation would most definitely be a very useful skill and maintenance might come in handy if I wind up getting a magic sword or something, if those even exist in this world. I really do need to figure out where the heck I am. Simply knowing the world had magic meant little in that regard.
I trooped up the stairs where the other children were running about, playing and preparing for bed. I slipped unnoticed into the bathroom and saw my reflection for the first time.
My orange/bronze skin was very different from the pale tones of the other kids and caretakers. My hair too was different, white like snow rather than the darker colors on top of everyone else's heads. Most of my hair stuck back in a mess of spikes except for a single wavy strand that fell between my eyes, not obscuring my vision, but noticeable. My features were young and childish, but through the baby fat, defined cheekbones stood tall above my strong pointed jaw.
At least I can be certain I would look incredibly attractive one day if these were my looks now. I laughed to myself and turned to leave when a calendar caught my eye. All the days except the last day were crossed out, which had 'Shiro's 6th Birthday' written in. Well, it would have been nice to know it was my birthday.
Ping!
Happy Birthday, +5 Stat points
Points: 10
Well, I don't know whether to be happy I got something, or unhappy it was just a few stat points. Better than nothing I suppose. So I'm 6, good to know.
It was the top of the calendar that caught my attention.
December X773
Only one place worked a year system like that. Fairy Tail. I was in the frickin world of Fairy Tail. Well, at least I know for certain this won't be boring.
Like I said in my last chapter of Izuku SMASH, one chapter a week, even if it's something new. Isekai fics are something I've played around with in the past, and this was what I eventually stumbled into when brainstorming. I've been toying around with the storyline a lot, and the only reason this wasn't posted earlier was because of how much of a wall I hit with Magical Sense. It made me nervous to keep working in the Fairy Tail world, and while I have other stuff I could post, I'm putting those thoughts aside and going with this. Push myself to write in first person with a completely OC protagonist. And hopefully not write a Gary-Stu.
So any and all feedback welcome, next week will probably be a chapter of either Izuku Smash, halfway through the next one of those, or Trickster Extraordinaire, about â…” the way through that next chapter, but I have been struggling with it. Legends of Remnant might get another chapter too if I ever manage to figure out how to balance that world. I was way too ambitious when starting that one, but oh well.
Happy Reading and see you next week -Centurion Africanus
