Underworld
Playing: Persona 3 OST - Tartarus Block 1-6 Mix
How long has it been?
Days, months… maybe even years?
Like Dante once thought, the time in the Underworld seemed endless with the increasing amount of hellspawns coming after him and his brother. Time and time again was wave after wave of demons wherever he set his boot upon. At least he had some company since there wasn't much of a way out of here.
The silver haired man let out a heavy sigh, seated over the edge of a cliff as his bored, blue eyes wandered over to the brimstone made landscapes overhead. A heavy yawn escaped from the demon hunter, his eyes becoming half lidded and begun to drift away to dreamland… until that fleeting was interrupted by the feeling of a small piece of stone hitting the back of his scruffy head.
Dante turned his head to catch who threw the pebble in the first place, eyes narrowed at the culprit.
"Already tired? I won't have my brother's age catch up to him when we have a duty to fulfill."
The demon hunter glared at the identical man that was clad in black; blue serpentine patterns adorning his coat and his gloved hand gripping a sheathed katana at his side. The man glowered down at his younger brother, running a hand along his slicked, silver hair. "Honestly, where is your motivation?"
Dante pushed away his irritation, masking it with a chuckle as he got up to his feet, arms outstretched before releasing a sigh. "Nah, just enjoying the view, Vergil. The same old damn view we've come to love as always."
"Tsk… let's make haste for a different type of scenery, then."
Dante shrugged his shoulders, following the retreating figure of his brother. Catching up to his side, he casually strode along at his pace, boots stepping over the cracked granite floor as the two wandered through the endless hellscape.
Silence fell between the two, their eyes looking forward. It was only a few seconds before the devil hunter piped up with some small talk.
"Seems like forever since I had some decent grub," the silver haired man said as he felt his stomach rumble slightly. "I mean, I'm all up for eating any fried loser that we come upon that looks like a soot covered appetizer, but wouldn't it be nice to , I dunno, get a good pizza around these parts?"
The crimson clad son of Sparda dearly missed his usual cuisine of pizza and strawberry parfaits, not particularly looking forward to the next Behemoth they might encounter.
"I prefer Chinese food at best." Vergil replied, eyes focused forward as they continued on their trek.
Soon, the younger brother ceased his walking, hand on his hip and the other scratching behind his head before traveling to scratch at his thinly muzzled face. Vergil spotting this, stopped as well, his questioning gaze landed on his sibling.
"You said yourself you've entrusted Nero to take care of things, so why -."
"It doesn't feel like a party around here now that I really thought about it."
Vergil quirked a brow at Dante's response. He never thought to hear that word again. In fact, it's been years since he last heard before their heated separation so long ago.
"You're… bored?" The katana wielding Sparda asked, crossing his arms.
"A bit of an understatement there, but you're damn right I am!" Dante gave out an annoyed huff. "We're two of the strongest badasses here and none of these wimps can give a good fight. It was fun for like… I dunno, maybe a week but now it's just draining the mood."
Vergil pondered on that statement, his eyes looking to the side as he gave out a small sigh. "I'd… have to agree with you on that one little brother. Truly, this is quite the Hell for us if we're managing so easily."
"It ain't like the old times, that's for sure."
"Again… agreed."
Both brothers looked exhausted beyond belief, their predicament causing the consequence of their lacking minds set to be warriors of the vast Underworld.
Dante was proud that Nero could hold his own ever since he had awaken his Devil Trigger, placing the utmost trust that is nephew had gained the right to surpass him. Even Vergil, begrudgingly found solace that his own son managed to best him in combat on top of the Qlipoth tree. Both were glad that the young devil hunter can manage without them on dealing with any catastrophes. He'd even had Lady and Trish along with Nico to help him maintain order on Earth.
Yet, still the emptiness in their hearts had dealt a blow to their egos, now seeing the pointlessness of fighting endlessly within the depths of the Underworld.
Another silence fell between the two sons of Sparda, much longer as they reflect upon their experiences.
"... I might have a solution to this."
Dante perked his head up, his eyes landing on Vergil unsheathing the blade, Yamato.
"You're joking with me, right?" The look on Dante's face was incredulous, a bit of ire in his tone as he stomped towards his brother. "All this time, you never thought of trying to make a damn portal outta here!?"
Once the katana was out, Vergil pointed the edge of it just a centimeter away from Dante's face, halting him from his tracks.
"Didn't you forget that we had some roots to cut away first, idiot?" Vergil shot back, annoyance filling his voice. "I intended for us to at least finish the job beforehand, but with the infinite amount of scum down here always stopping us, I never once got the chance."
Vergil then look down at his blade before continuing on. "And even then, I thought things would be hopeless for us ever since I ended up here the first time around."
Dante thought back to how Vergil lost all that he was when they had their encounter back on Mallet Island. The damned Mundus brainwashing his brother into the mindless knight, Nelo Angelo and forced the red demon hunter to kill his own brother. The trauma of that day only resulted to Vergil taking a step too far into becoming a power mad demon that resulted them being in the Underworld in the first place.
Perhaps the lost time made up from their countless sparring and fighting against demon hordes finally polished up his skills?
Dante's scornful look turned to a sympathetic one which morphed to a cheeky grin and a laugh. "Well, you got your dear little brother to be there for you this time around." The demon hunter moved to Vergil's side, giving him a pat on the shoulder as he attempted to lighten up the mood. "After all, you got some time to show off some new skills after all that demon slaughtering, right?"
Vergil only shrugged his twin's hand off of him, cracking a small smile at the gesture before moving back to his stoic expression. "I'm not how I was before. I'm certain I can get us out of here."
With that, the blue swordsman pointed Yamato to the space in front of him whilst Dante watched with expectation.
Dante could only hope that his brother's assurance wasn't a concealment of arrogance.
Breath steady and mind focused, Vergil swiped at the air at a horizontal angle before ending with a vertical slice, a cross shaped tear was made that illuminated blue flowing energy. It then opened up, revealing a portal coated in darkness that awaited for the two Sparda twins.
Dante let out an amused whistle, giving a mock golf clap at the action. "You definitely need to start a business in party tricks. Bet you can make the 'cut' easily." The joke of his resulted in Vergil jabbing him in the stomach with the sword once it was sheathed, causing him to wince.
Mischievous nature aside, Dante stared at the ripple of reality in front of him alongside Vergil. Both brothers took a step forward to close the distance and before taking another step, Vergil held out a hand to stop Dante from moving in too close.
Dante caught the look of hesitance within Vergil's features, the older brother speaking his reason.
"Despite this being our key to freedom… I'm not even sure if this will take us back."
Listening to those cautionary words, Dante gave a smile to his brother, patting him on the shoulder again and giving a calm grip. Vergil caster a glance to him.
"There's no fun in life without taking risks, right?" Dante reasoned. "Besides, even if it's not home, the other side might be one helluva ride."
Vergil once again cracked a smile. "I hate it when you can be right on some things."
Both nodded at each other and made the firm decision of entering into the portal. The pooling black covered their bodies and their vision, their presence slowly drifting away from each other. On that realization, they attempted to reach out when they were in and call their names yet it was too late. The darkness had already overtaken them and the portal closed behind them when they entered.
Once again, the sons of Sparda were now separated…
End of the Song
Medici Tower
Dante's face flooded with the glaring light, causing the devil hunter to lazily peek an eye out. Was that yelling he heard? And why did the ground feel so flat?
Dante's eyes opened wide with shock as he shot straight up in sitting position, taking in the fact that he wasn't in the Underworld anymore.
Instead of the stony and fiery landscape he grew accustomed to, the silver haired demon slayer was greeted with a clean art deco decor of the expansive room he was in. He couldn't help but gape in pure awe on how he got here. Soon enough, a smile crept up on his lips and gave out a small laugh.
"Well, goddamn Vergil! You up and got us outta of that hellhole!" Dante looked around to see if his brother was nearby….
… and much to his dismay, he wasn't around at all.
Dante's joyful smile turned into a frown, realizing he was once more separated from his brother. A sigh escaped from him, "Okay…" He gets up from the floor while dusting off his clothes, "Maybe it was a bad idea to jump in the portal."
That was the worst idea that he ever made. "Guess it's time to find out where the hell am I on my own." He looked around the room, he whistled at the design in the room. Clean and fancy place…until he noticed that he was not alone in the room.
A brown business attired man who rapidly stood up as his face was plastered with confusion and shock.
Dante was standing there while looking at him with a confused look as he waved at him, "Uh…hey?"
"Wha-Who the hell are you! What are you doing in my office!" the business man yelled in outrage.
Dante didn't know what to say…soooo he's going to promptly ignore him as he inspected the place before spotting a giant ornate lift at the end of the hallway.
He nodded, "Guess that's the way out." beginning to head towards the elevator, until he heard the man yelled out to him.
"Hey! I'm not done talking to you!"
"Huh?"
"Don't act like you don't know me?! I'm Vitale Medici and I demand that you tell me what you are doing in my office!"
Dante was starting to get annoyed from this Vitale guy, 'I mean, seriously who named their son 'Vitale'? It doesn't make sense at all.'
"Answer me!" Vitale yelled.
"Jesus…you're so loud," was all Dante said as he entered the cavernous lift before he saluted to Vitale "Later, Vicky." and then pressed the button. Sending the elevator down.
The Medici sputtered before rushing back to his desk and activating an intercom.
"Some spy was in my office!" There was a haze of intelligible speech out the other end. "What!? You useless morons! Get the entirety of the grunts at the bottom, I want that man shot you hear me! Who know's what he took from up here!" There was another haze of speech, "The Circus? Fine, Get a few over here. I always like to take precautions."
Vitale looked down from his chair as he watched the elevator slowly begin to reach the bottom floor.
"I don't know who you are, but you're dead if you think you can spy on the Medici's." Vitale said as he gritted his teeth.
River King Casino
Dante looked up thinking he had heard something but simply dismissed it, instead walking towards the window before placing both hands on the railing, peering outside at the unfamiliar looking city. It was large and expansive, sprawling almost as far as the eye can see. Every building sporting an art deco design as the sun shown brightly outside, giving it a bright white and yellow look.
"Doesn't look like, I'm in the U.S." Dante said, "This isn't any city." he readjusted his coat. Curious, Dante held out his hand and concentrated on the object within his grasp. To his surprise, instead of the large awakened and fiery weapon of the Devil Sword Dante was now the dormant state of his father's keepsake, the Rebellion. More confusion welled within the now young hunter's mind, his face scowling at the fact that he was reduced to the time where he ventured in the tower of Temen-ni-gru. Quickly, Dante opened up his red coat and was relieved that the dual pistols, Ebony and Ivory were still at his side.
'But, what about my other sword?' Dante pondered as he tried to de-materialize his sword. Not just a second, it appeared, with a sigh, Dante de-materialize the legendary sword from him, thinking that since he got Rebellion back he can use the Devil Sword Dante for emergencies, when things go bad or whatever. He opted to place the sword mounted onto his back for the time being, his feet walking towards the elevator when it was about to reach the bottom level. "Gotta make due what I can, then."
The lift came to a stop before the doors slowly opened.
The clicks from a bunch of guns were heard as a bunch of Goon's stood at the exit of the lift, each of them equipped with a pistol or Tommy gun as they looked at Dante with smiling faces.
"Well, Well, Well... What do we have here." A gang member said, before revealing himself. An ornate butler looking revealed itself as it held a cup of tea in it's grasp. The voice however sounded small and drunk in comparison to the way the machine held itself as.
"Seems like our little spy has fallen right into our trap." The robot said.
Dante merely stood there silently as he did a head count, he could see at least twenty of was able to conclude that they all were just normal Goons, nothing outstanding about them except for the strange looking robot, possibly a midget of some sort.
"Wow... And here I thought I would need to put effort." Dante snicker. The robot seemed to take offense to that.
"Getting Cocky now!? Everyone shot this sorry mother fu-" the goons were all about to pull the trigger.
"Trickster,"
He vanished.
"W-what…"
Everyone in the room begin to panic a little and were trying to look around the room for the spy.
"Where did he go!"
"Doing this almost seems unfair."
Everyone look up in surprise as they see Dante holding two unknown guns, one white, and another one black while standing up in the ceiling as he crouching down
"Gunslinger." Dante said as he jumped and held up Ebony to the elegantly dressed robot before looking at his Goon's behind him.
BANG!
The Robot's face crumpled backwards but otherwise stayed there due to time as the bullet launched in the head. Slowly he fell backwards towards the ground.
Dante landed on the ground as he saw sparks coming out of head, "I can tell your sort of high priced gang." He turned around as the mafia took a step back a little from him.
"So…."
He raised both Ebony and Ivory in different directions.
"Lets call it even."
Dante released a few demon energy from him, and started to fire a devastating assault of bullets on the gang members, as their paused bodies had not felt the pain just yet.
2 seconds had passed.
Within an instant giant spurts of spat out blood was flung around the place as the various gang members were tossed through the air, an impossible amount of shots had been inflicted. He stops shooting to see the results. Their tommy guns shattered into a million pieces as the goon's finally fell back down, broken and bloodied as they groaned out in pain.
"Oh…" Dante realizing his plan was a bad idea. "That might have been a bad idea."
BUZZ!?
"Hm?"
Dante there was a sound of buzzing going on, until he saw the robot that he shot in the face. The robot was flung backwards somewhere as it struggled to move before falling. A tiny pink figure ejected from it as it attempted to get away, revealing the fact that the robot was indeed piloted rather than operated on it's own accord.
Dante merely walked while putting Ebony and Ivory away, before putting his hands in pocket. Using Trickster to sprung forth, grabbing the tiny newt-like creature by the waist. The creature sputtered in shock and fear as it struggled against what seemed like an invisible force.
"AH! Lemme go!" The tiny figure said as it's tiny cigar dropped from his mouth.
Dante stared at the robot before at the tiny creature with the most tried/Annoying look.
Ottomon the salamander almost had a heart attack.
"W-Woah, hey! Listen pal, that s-stuff back there... I-If we knew you was some sort a Parasite user then, Then w-we wouldn't have tried to shoot ya." The pink creature said as he coughed nervously.
Dante was confused, "Parasite?"
"Yeah, Parasite. Y'know, the fact that you teleported out of the elevator and standing on top of the ceiling, and shot multiple bullets at us without releasing was nuts. It's like those Freaks from the circus that the boss is sending right now after ya." The Salamander said in a panicked tone.
"Huh, so they must be some sort of Devils or Demons."
The Salamander was about to ask what the Devil Hunter talking about before the doors at the end of the elevator room slowly opened, revealing an ornate casino in the background as various gamblers played their hearts out.
'So that must be the way out…' Dante thought before walking towards the doorway.
"Wha- Hey, whatta 'bout me?!" The Salamander yelled in anguish. Dante forgot that he was still holding him and turned his head slightly.
"W-why are you smiling?
Was he smiling? Either way he held his hand back before hurling the Salamander at breakneck speeds and right into a nearby fountain, the tiny creature hit his tiny head before falling into the water below. Officially making Ottomon retired.
He sighed, "No doubt they're already looking for me." As he made his way to the doorway. "And they'll be utilizing these 'Parasites' or whatever skills they had." was all the Devil Hunter said before walking into the vibrant and gigantic casino.
Glass Canopy
Playing: Skullgirls Encore OST - Royal Canopy Waltz
The royal party hall where the elite came to gather was currently empty as daylight shined through the ornate umbrella shaped glass roof.
"Umbrella!? Umbrella where are you!" A voice yelled as Adam Kapowski called out, he was growing more and more concerned by the second. "Your highness please come out!"
The black egret passed a pillar, before going into other parts of the glass canopy, calling out for the small child.
Umbrella sighed before turning around and slumping her back against the ornate pillar, clearly upset. Things were always the same, she had to stay behind while her sister was off to do cool stuff.
It just wasn't fair.
"C'mon princess, we'll even get Vanilla if you want." Adam called, his voice was heard from the other section of the castle
Umbrella looked down glumly, "I don't even like vanilla..." she muttered. She supposed there was no use, after all nothing was going to change out of this.
She was about to leave before she spotted something, an avian bird roughly the size of a hawk with a dark blue plumage. His eyes have three golden pupils each, and his beak is unique in that it is several beaks in a mandible configuration
'Is that a Bird?' Umbrella thought, the bird was inspecting the place as it looked around slowly before spotting her. Umbrella realized it wasn't just a bird, but a weirdly looking bird.
It paused to stare at her before it said something, "Oh...Shit," as it began to fly away from her. Umbrella starred in surprise and curiosity at the talking bird.
"H-Hey. Wait!" She said before ditching her hiding spot, the bird turned the corner, moving away from the ballroom. Umbrella was running now as her rain boots thumped against the floor.
It stopped to look at her again before saying something, "Look kid, just pretend that you didn't see me, okay." It retreated back into the shadows of the hallway.
Umbrella ran up before stopping, there was someone standing there.
"Well this is unexpected," The figure asked within the shadows. Umbrella couldn't have recognized who it was, but she could tell it was a he.
"Unexpected? Was that bird you or yours?" The little girl asked. The figure paused before stepping out of the shadows.
A man with a clad in black; blue serpentine patterns adorning his coat and his gloved hand gripping a sheathed katana at his side. The man glowered down at her while running a hand along his slicked, silver hair.
"That was not a bird, that was my familiar."
"A familiar? Like what people assume a form of an animal?"
"No, my familiar is…will more than just an animal." Vergil said, attempting to make it as simplified as possible to the younger girl.
"Oh... So it's like a parasite then!" Umbrella proclaimed.
"Hm…and what makes you think that it's a 'parasite'."
Umbrella smirked in a troublemaker-like faction, "I dunno, maybe if you got me an ice cream then I could tell you."
Vergil sighed before a shadow started to appear next him.
Umbrella was confused at first until she noticed something from it.
It was taking the form of a large panther (as opposed to a saber-tooth cat) with enormously muscular forelimbs that give it a bulldog-like build, and red eyes with visible white sclera. Its body features glowing lines pulsating faintly whenever it moves.
Umbrella immediately jumped back in surprise.
Vergil pet Shadow while some energy was heading towards him."I apologize for sh-
"Wooooaah! This is so cool! It's like a panther, but a dog too!" Umbrella said as she walked towards Shadow with her hand out and petting him in the head. "Who's a cute…uh? Dog or maybe cat? You are!"
Vergil was more surprised at the fact that she wasn't totally traumatized.
"How did you do that!?" Umbrella asked in excitement. Vergil slouched down to get a closer look at her before speaking.
"Shadow is familiar. He is a good breast to fight against…creatures and his recon skills allows him to read people as if they are books. Umbrella Renoir." Vergil said in a nonchalant tone. It took Umbrella a second to realize.
"Heeeeeeey. That's not fair! I command you to tell me your name as well!"
Vergil raised an eye, "Do you normally talk to strangers like this?"
"Nah, Hungern here-" She gestured to the weird looking umbrella to her hand, the eyes on it were frozen, until they looked directly at Vergil. The alpha raises a brow bit. "-Would eat you right up if you were. Besides, I never really get to talk to anyone else in this crummy castle except for a few stupid lieutenants."
Vergil was intrigued at that statement before he decided to speak up, "Very well. My name is Vergil."
"Nice to meet ya Mister." Umbrella said as she held out her head, while Vergil looked at the hand for a minute, before shaking it.
Little did Umbrella know, this allowed Vergil to get a better idea of what he was dealing with as his keen eyes picked up every detail of her memory.
Apparently Umbrella was the youngest of a royal family, the Reinors. A family that Rohan had never even heard of before, what was more strange was that her family were rulers of what was called the Canopy kingdom. None of this made any sense to Vergil, instead his brain operated more quickly within the fraction of a second to pick up more info. The information that Shadow got, during his recon. A detailing that both her mother and father had died after her mother became a 'Skullgirl'.
He was going to need a verbal approach if he wanted answers.
"So, Miss Ren-"
"That'll be Princess Mr. Vergil."
Vergil raised an eye as Umbrella giggled in a mischievous tone. He sighed before Shadow began to sink underground, just in case anyone tried to attack him or the girl.
"Very Well, Princess. Where exactly am I?"
"You don't know where you are? Did you hit your head or something?"
Vergil was about to respond before the child took his hand before tugging.
"Here! I suppose it is my duty to show you around the place." Umbrella said in a mock of a royal voice. Vergil merely shrugged before walking alongside the kid. Maybe he would finally get some answers.
A Few Minutes Later
"-And then could you believe it!? They mixed mango sherbet with Chocolate! Who the hell does that!?" Umbrella said as she finished her tenth story, seemingly carefree as she tugged him again. "And the worst part is, they had the gall to call it 'Gourmet', PAH!"
Vergil was starting to get a little bit annoyed, not as much as being around Dante, but it was getting there.
'This would make a horrible one-shot…' Vergil thought glumly as she droned on and on.
"But that's even the best part! The best part was-"
They had reached a bigger room before Vergil studied every detail.
It seemed to be a ballroom of some sort, with intricate and marble flooring. The most outstanding feature was the giant see through roof which had priceless carved glass which made the light shining through split into hundreds of different colors. Umbrella
Vergil would be lying if he said he wasn't impressed.
"Pretty cool huh?" Umbrella said as she came up alongside him.
"My parents built it... But they're gone now." She said, her tone saddened a bit. Vergil already knew that her parents were dead, but regardless his face softened up a bit, feeling sympathetic to her. His father…he didn't know what happened to him and his mother was…gone. She was killed by Demons while trying to find him and Dante, but he could imagine he would feel sorrowful if they were to pass away.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Eh, it happened when I was really young. Besides, people told me my dad wasn't the nicest of people." The young girl sighed again, "I'll sure miss mom though." Umbrella said before tugging on Vergil's arm again.
"C'mon, there's more to see over-"
End of the song
"Umbrella, is that you sweetie?" A female voice asked.
Vergil turned around to see a middle aged woman across the ballroom. Her hair was pure black in color and her eyes were of a dark purple, she wore a violet dress and an ornate necklace.
"M-Mom?" Umbrella asked. "I-Is that really you?" she said in a shaky voice.
"Of course dear, Come and embrace me." She said in a gentle tone.
Vergil on the other hand had an eye for detail.
His information was cleared that both her parents were dead, yet here her mother was, completely unharmed and the first thing she does is visit her daughter. This seemed too good to be true. Not only that, but although Umbrella couldn't see it, his stand allowed him to see what would be naked to the human eye.
This woman had evil intentions to put it short. A menacing look beneath her innocent facade.
And lastly, Shadow always read true information, and as far as Vergil was concerned, it did not say within Umbrella's memory that her mother could have been alive. This lady definitely was not the girls mother but instead an impostor.
Vergil put a hand behind his back before a slow smoke began to shape Griffon.
Griffon immediately clung to his back, hiding from the older woman's gaze.
"Momma!" Umbrella yelled, barely able to claim her excitement as she ran forward, her rubber boots stomping against the ground.
Her mother held out her arms as she knelt down.
And it was then Griffon acted.
Playing: Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition - Lets Just See
Immediately the Familiar sprung forth, Nancy's eyes widened as she looked on with surprise.
Griffon passed Umbrella before it projected a strong force of electricity, "Crrr!" knocking the queen backwards. Her body was twitching as her eyes began to change while being lading in the ground.
"Reveal your true self…Demon…"
Vergil immediately felt a kick to the leg as he grunted without pain.
"What do you think you're doing! That's my mother ya douche!" Umbrella said, she was quite keen on vulgar language despite her age.
Vergil looked at Umbrella before looking back, his gaze hardened as Griffon returned to his side.
"That thing... Is not your mother."
Umbrella turned around before gasping in shock. Her mother was no longer there, instead a formless being with a monstrous appearance. It rose up as if it was liquid.
A single red eye stared at the two of them with complete malice.
"What a strange power..." It said in a distorted voice, promising pain and death. While looking at Griffon, "Even I must admit, I can see it being quite problematic in the future"
Vergil kept his look, "What are you? And what exactly do you want." he said.
"I am Double, and I have come here for the girl."
Umbrella fumed as she stood closer to Vergil, "Just try it butt face!" the girl said before blowing a raspberry at the monster. Vergil took a moment to admire the kid's courage.
"I'm afraid you can't take her if you're planning on hurting her for something evil." Vergil said as his eyes narrowed.
"Hurting her? I'm afraid you have it all wrong, I am planning on giving her something exquisite. Sadly, you are in the way and therefore must die." The creature's flesh turned into sharp bone before spring forward, intent on eviscerating the manga artist.
Vergil's face turned into a smirk.
"Is that so?"
Immediately Vergil used Summoned Swords at Doubles bone blades that went wild from each hit it's taking, as it swung, hitting everything but Vergil and Umbrella (Who's surprised from Summoned Swords appearing out of nowhere) as she stood close to him.
The creature attempted to attack again, but it's flesh disconnected before Griffon electrocuted it from even touching Vergil. Double retreated back as it's form turned into something more complete, it's one red eye twisted in what seemed to be anger and confusion.
"Who are you!? Are you some sort of parasite user!"
Vergil smiled before slowly backing up, Umbrella clinging onto his arm.
"My Familier, Griffon, has a particularly special ability. Not only can he use electricity, But he can also read you like a book,-" Vergil said before backing up a bit more, "-But he also has free will. One to Attack, and one to... Well-" He pointed at the monster's arm as it's red eye immediately looked at it's own flesh. Sure enough there was a tiny ball of electricity, before it could react, it fired an electric shock that slammed into it in pain. That's something that nobody had noticed except for Vergil himself.
"This cannot be... Not even Parasites are capable of such feet!" Double said as it's flesh rapidly shifted in anger, "What you did was-"
"Impossible? Yes." Griffon materialized next to his shoulder as the familiar seem to be laughing at it.
Umbrella's face lit up as she giggled. "Aw yeah! Beat that butt face!" The young princess yelled in glee.
Vergil expected the flesh to throw itself in a fit of anger, instead it simply calmed itself before turning that into what appeared to be a nun of some kind. Something was not right. But he knew that it was not alone.
"Very well then. I suppose I should let my subordinate take over."
Umbrella's eyes widened before immediately turning around.
A medical scalpel was coming straight towards them, he had time to act before the object could hit him. Miraculously, Griffon caught it.
A woman stood at the top of the stairs, wearing a revealing nurses outfit, her mouth was covered with a surgical mask as her eyes showed an annoying look.
"Hmph, it seems that this 'Familiar' can react faster than any normal animal." The lady said before jumping down the stairs in an impossible feat as she twirled and spun before landing on her two feet, brandishing a bone saw as she ran her fingers on it's sharp edge.
"But, I'm going to ask you to hand over the girl,"
"And why should I?" Vergil said as he brought up his katana, while listening.
"Now, there's no need to fight." The nurse said as she stood by disguised Double, the Nun smiled in a friendly manner but looked nothing of the sort.
"You hand over the girl, and all of us can forget this ever happened." Double spoke, in a friendly yet sinister fashion.
"Hand her over to you?" Vergil asked in genuine curiosity.
Umbrella looked at Vergil, before looking at the nurse in a bit of fear. Surely he wouldn't...
"Yes, we're not going to hurt her, we just need her for something and after that she'll be given back to her family. It's a win win for everyone." The nurse said.
"And I won't have to fight..." Vergil said as he slowly separated Umbrella from his arm, looking down to the floor as he walked forward.
"Wh- Mister Vergil, I trusted... you." Umbrella said as her voice broke up.
"Now you're seeing reason, hand her over." Valentine said as she raised her hand up until a shadow passed by her. The nurse directly saw what she saw in shock, The shadow was a spinning blade that almost attacked her and Double. Before they can react, it changes to a Panther with features of glowing lines it's face sporting the look of pure defiance.
"Then your fool to tricked me with that disguised, Demon."
"W-what?"
"He can sense your energy. Idiots," Griffon said while being on Vergil's shoulder before being on Shadow side. He could see surprised looks from Umbrella(who thought that it was Vergil speaking from the bird.) and two women, "When the nurse here tried to attack V, you slipped away from your original form." he then laughed at the two women, "You really think that V is that stupid. Transform all you want and your presence, but it's not going to fool V that easy."
The two women were in shock, not only that this person was a parasite user or some sort, but he figured out what double was at the beginning. 'This guy is dangerous. We need to tell Skullgirl about this after we get away from this thing.' Valentine thought while she and Double were in a battle stance. Shadow moved now to slowly circle around and Griffon was beginning to fly around them.
Umbrella on the other hand was surprised and happy that Vergil didn't trade her to the two women that were trying to kidnap her. She looks up to Vergil who was Busy dealing with them. "Thank you…"
Vergil heard what she said, but he was busy focusing on the fight. "Gouge them." as soon as those words were uttered, Shadow launched himself at them.
Both of them moved off of the way until Griffon charged at Double launching it into the air. Valentine moved to roundhouse kick directly at the panther only for the cat to sink down onto the ground flat as can be. Quickly sliding down bladed tendrils coming out of the ground at her. Though she managed to dodge most of the blades she still took damage to from them.
"Damn it." She muttered underneath her breath. Quickly she turned to see Shadow on the far side of the room. Before she could do anything, Shadow leapt up into the air and turned into a giant spinning blade. Launching himself directly at Valentine. The nurse barely managed to dodge to the side of the giant impact the demon caused.
Shadow didn't hesitate and moved to shoot several spikes out of its back, hitting Valentine while she was still recovering, draining her energy even further.
"Pin her to the wall." Vergil ordered from the sidelines with Umbrella who looked amazed from the fight. To which Shadow followed through, moving closer and shooting several spikes out of its front and head directly into Valentine. If it was not for the medical saw, she still had that blow would have surely been critical.
Valentine managed to get back on her feet and launched several projectiles at the panther from her. All of which missed as Shadow moved with grace through them all. Quickly standing right before the nurse and transforming into what only could be described as a giant maw of spikes, grabbing her with its spikes and slamming the nurse back into the ground.
Meanwhile Griffon was about to finish his fight with Double, immediately he charges towards it and slams it into the air again, then creates an electric sphere that melts down the bones a little while blasting it out of the bird. Then, aiming at the rest of it, Griffon charges up and sends out five columns of thunder, damaging Double on the air. During all the attacks he screams with all his might and taunts however he likes it. Double begins to fall in the ground next to Valentine, who was struggling to get up, feeling like she had fallen into a garbage disposal. Looking towards Vergil with a look of frustration and anger.
"You…"
"It's not possible…"
End of the Song
Within an instant he turned around and he pulled Yamato out of his hilt, Umbrella close to him as she gasped in shock before He sliced the air in two creating some sort of portal.
"We're leaving"
"Uh…are you sure you know where that portal is taking us, V?"
"..."
"You don't know!"
"...We'll soon find out." Vergil turned to Umbrella, "Miss Reinor…we're going."
Umbrella didn't know what to do, but…she trusted him, she grabbed him in the arm and looked at him with a nod. Immediately Shadow sinks in the ground to Both Vergil and Umbrella. Griffon followed behind them. When entering the portal, they noticed one thing….
They were falling in the sky.
Immediately falling faster than the eye could see as Vergil held Umbrella close to him, Both he and Umbrella kept going further and further in the air before they slowly began to reach ground.
Griffon cursed as he flew down at them, He needed to grabbed Vergil and girl quickly before he and Umbrella would-
However, he stopped as he immediately saw something that landed on something soft. He looked down to see a gaping purple maw.
Hungern had apparently stopped there fall as it slowly floated away from the building. Carrying both him and Umbrella to a safer place. He looked back to see the building they left. The building itself however laid on top of a giant plateau of concrete and marble, with an entire foundation of buildings below it, and even more as the eye could see. No wonder this place was called the canopy kingdom, it was like a real jungle canopy with buildings instead of trees forming a giant civilized canopy.
Umbrella stood up, now without her hat. She paused to look at Vergil and Griffon before her excitement slowly lit up like a firecracker.
"Oh no..." Vegril whispered before the girl went off.
"That... Was... AWESOME!" Umbrella said as she bawled her hands up in an effort to contain herself, "At first she was like, 'die you', and then you were like, 'nope', and then that para- I mean your Familier was all like, 'I'm electrocuting you with power!'"
Griffon laugh with amazement from this girl. "Ha! Ha! I like this kid!"
Vergil sighed before chuckling lightly, he peered out to the entire city below. The little girl noticed his confusion.
"You're really not from around here aren't you?" Umbrella asked as her tone died down a bit. Vergil looked back at her, surprised that she was able to guess what he was thinking. Umbrella paused before pointing at him. "I mean, like c'mon. That stuff you just did was cool, but like butt face said, impossible. Where exactly are you from Mister Vergil?"
Vergil paused before looking back out to the horizon, the sun slowly beginning to drop down. "If I told you, then you still wouldn't understand. All I can say is that this is clearly not my world."
Umbrella looked down, unsure what to say before her face beamed up.
"I know! How about we go to New Meridian! Hungern can float us all the way to Little Innsmouth at this rate!"
"Wherever you feel is best. We need to keep low however. And I need to find my brother and get back to my world."
Umbrella nodded before she realized something, "Wait? You have a brother!? Can he do cool stuff like you did?"
Vergil didn't say anything but he slightly nodded.
"Really!? Well then what are we waiting for!? Let's go!" Umbrella said before hungern pressed forward, the wind taking them to the skyscrapers in the distance. Vergil took out his book while watching umbrella navigating into the city and then looks back at the book.
Glass Canopy
Valentine looked up angrily after the portal disappeared as she tore off her surgical mask, that kid was her trump card and now she was gone.
To make matters worse, both she and Double were going to have to leave very soon, as the surprised yelling and footsteps of black egrets soon filled the hallways. With the giant stomps signifying that Panzerfaust was close.
"We need to go." Valentine said, Double stood up as if listening to something before she spoke.
"It is for the best, The Skullgirl wishes to speak to the both of us. Something of dire importance has come up."
Valentine hesitantly nodded as she looked to where the portal was before taking a pill bottle and throwing it against the ground. A giant puff of smoke engulfed the ninja's body before making her disappear altogether. Double on the other hand, transformed. Taking the look of a normal black egret soldier before walking away from the scene, just in time as the real black egrets burst in, as Panzerfaust punched the doors right of its hinges.
The black egrets rushed in, Adam at the front as they looked around the place with their guard on high alert. "Spread out and find out what happened."
"Yes sir!"
The worried lieutenant looked around before something caught his eyes. A little yellow rain hat was lying on the ground.
"Oh no, it's all my damn fault!" The lieutenant said as he knelt down to pick up Umbrella's hat, his head hung low in shame. Panzerfaust came up behind the lieutenant as he placed a giant hand on his back in an attempt to comfort him.
Molly came up next to him, "Don't blame yourself Adam, you did your best. It's not your fault that she ran off to hide somewhere."
"And my best was not enough! Now she's gone..." Adam said before looking out to the hole in the glass canopy, his face hardened with resolve. "Someone contact Princess Parasoul, and tell her of my failure."
Molly nodded sadly before walking away to get to work.
"I don't know who you are, or where you are, but you're going to regret taking Umbrella." Adam said as his eyes narrowed in anger before walking away.
There was work to be done.
