The next day me and Cedric sent an owl to Professor McGonagall to ask for the sixteenth of August. After some discussion me and Cedric thought that this would be the perfect date for us to get married, it was exactly in the middle of the summer holidays so there would no students around. And it was a Sunday, which meant that our guests could arrive on the Saturday so it wouldn't disrupt everyone's working commitments too much.
Thankfully, it only took two days for Professor McGonagall to reply back to state that this date was completely fine. Now that we had a date it only made me more excited to marry Cedric as having a date made it feel more real. I couldn't stop imagining and dreaming about our wedding day; something of which Cedric admitted that he also did – which only made me love him even more.
After we had received Professor McGonagall's letter me and Cedric then sent a letter to both of our parents using both of our owls to inform them of the date that we wanted to get married. And when our owls had returned, we allowed them to rest for a short while before we sent them to Harry and Ginny's house and the Burrow. Yes, we were going to have save the date cards for all of our guests, but we wanted to share the date with our nearest and dearest – and by the looks of it they all valued this immensely.
It was now Thursday morning, and I was currently sitting my desk in my office, working on my newest proposal for house-elves. I had a proposal meeting next week; and I still had a lot that I needed to do to make sure that I had everything ready. But I knew that I would manage to get everything that I needed to put my proposal forward; even if it meant that I took my work home with me in aid for me to complete it. However, I was broken out of my train of thought when I heard a knock on my office door, which made me slowly look up at it.
"I wonder who that is" I muttered to myself as I quickly stood up. "I am not expecting anyone" I added as I walked around my desk, across my office before opening the door. I was then greeted by the sight of a small, petite, blonde haired and green-eyed woman wearing a dark green uniform holding a bouquet of flowers, and I couldn't help but smile when my eyes landed on them. It was a large bouquet of around ten long stem red roses; they were held together with a crimson ribbon, and she was holding the water bag that they were sitting in.
"These are for you Miss Grainger" she said cheerly.
"Thank you" I smiled happily as I took them from her. "Do you need anything?" I enquired.
"No" she stated as she shook her head at me. "They have already been paid for" she explained. "Good day!" she grinned.
"Good day!" I called back and I watched as she quickly turned and left, which caused me to close the door and turn around. I then walked up to my desk, and I picked up my wand and made a dark brown vase appear on my desk. I then used my wand to allow some water to fill half of the vase before I slowly and carefully took the water bag from the flowers and then slid them into the vase. My eyes then caught a card and I smiled as I opened it to read:
"Just a little thing to say that I am thinking of you
xxxxxxxx"
I couldn't help but grin at this; Cedric really was a charmer. And I thought that this was really sweet of him to send me flowers like this; so, with this thought in mind I then quickly sent a flying letter to him to thank him for his gift. I couldn't stop my mind thinking about how else I could thank my perfect fiancé tonight, but I had to quickly push these thought away. Now wasn't the time nor the place, but I would make sure that I took the time when I got to see my perfect fiancé later on tonight.
A short time passed before I heard another knock on the door, which broke me out of my train of yet again and I repeated my actions and answered the door. However, it was to my shock when I saw who was there – Cormac McLaggen.
"Cormac?" I asked in confusion, why on Merlin would he come to see me? Surely, he should be working under his father in the Department of Magical Transportation. In fact, the last time I saw him was on a night out when he tried to put his hands on my buttock when I was dancing with Ginny when Cedric was in the toilets. Things escalated when I slapped him and Cedric quickly jumped to my defence, which in turn turned into an argument and Cedric and Cormack had to be torn apart. "How can I help you?" I added politely.
"I came to see you" he grinned at me.
"Ok" I said. "Come in" I stated as I took a step to the side, and I let him enter my office before I closed the door behind him – with me hoping that this exchange wasn't going to be for very long.
"I just came to say congratulations on your engagement" he said happily.
"Thank you" I smiled at him.
"Saying that Hermione- "he began. "I think everyone knew it was coming at some point" he added with a disappointed look on his face.
"Yes" I nodded. "If that is everything Cormac, I'm afraid I don't have long to chat" I stated wanting to end this conversation quite quickly. "I'm very busy" I stated as I nodded towards the piles of papers that were on my desk.
"You always are" he chuckled as I walked around my desk and I stood just in front of my seat.
"Yes" I agreed, and I watched as his eyes landed on the flowers that were on my desk and I watched as a large smile spread across his face.
"Did you like the flowers that I sent you?" he grinned as he looked up at me and I couldn't help but freeze at this? Why on Merlin did Cormac think that he could send me flowers? It wasn't his place! I thought we had got away from this situation. In our repeat year I had to tutor Cormac in a couple of lessons that he was struggling in. This situation was hard enough as it was, but due to the fact that Cedric had already left school he wasn't around. This meant that Cormac tried to openly flirt with me and give me gifts – all of which I dismissed and disregarded. But this didn't mean that it didn't cause arguments between me and Cedric and Cormac and Cedric because it did.
"That you sent me?" I repeated slowly.
"Yeah" he nodded eagerly.
"Why did you send me flowers Cormac? You know that I am engaged to Cedric" I urged, hoping that he would see that he had done wrong.
"Yeah" he repeated. "Of course," he agreed. "But come on Hermione- "he added as he sat on the edge of the front of my desk. "You know that there has always been a spark between us" he flirted.
"That was in your head Cormac" I stated bluntly.
"No!" he exclaimed as I picked one of my books up that was on my desk. "You used to flirt with me!" he implored.
"No!" I shouted as I slammed the book back down onto my desk. "I did not!" I snapped. "I was asked to help tutor you" I reminded him harshly. "That was it!" I added. "No feelings! No spark!" I shouted, hoping that he was going to finally get the hint. "I think you should leave" I stressed as I nodded towards the door.
"No" he dismissed. "Don't be like that" he urged. "You need to be sure of what you are doing Hermione" he stressed.
"What?" I exclaimed.
"You've only been with Cedric" he stated which made me grimace at the fact that that he had the audacity to even question me being with Cedric. "How do you know that he is the only one for you?" he asked incredulously.
"Because I know" I stated bluntly. "Cormac, I think you should leave; this is way out of line" I urged. I then watched as Cormac opened his mouth to say something, but he stopped when my office door opened, and Cedric stepped into the room. I couldn't stop my eyes from widening slightly at this as he looked at me and Cormac; I then watched as something changed in his eyes which made my stomach start to burn. This was not good! This was not good at all!
