Chapter Twelve
The scream of terror echoed inside the dimly lit manor, followed by the sounds of spellfire.
"You can't hide from us, Walburga. You are no longer a member of this family and you will be obliviated and kicked out or you will die within these walls!"
Arcturus ducked a bright orange organ liquefying curse and returned fire with his overpowered black banisher, destroying a chunk of wall.
"This is my house and you will not force me from it! Kreacher! Kreacher… kill them!"
Walburga yelled her command as she ducked another spell, a red stunner from Sirius this time, and headed for the stairs. Kreacher, the Black family elf in charge of Grimmauld Place, cringed in terror at not knowing what to do.
"Mistress requests… but Kreacher cannot… Master Arcturus is here and Kreacher cannot harm Master."
Arcturus looked at Kreacher and grinned.
"Kreacher… freeze her. I command you."
Kreacher sighed and waved his hand just as Walburga reached the top of the stairs. As her body froze in place, momentum continued and she tumbled head over heels down to the main floor… landing in a heap.
"Kreacher is sorry Mistress… but Kreacher has to do as Master says…"
Arcturus looked down at his former daughter in law and grinned.
"Now then… since you refuse to allow me to remove your memories… there can be only one thing left to do. You attacked me in my own home with deadly force…"
Sirius ran up at that point, panting and bleeding from a cutting curse to the forehead.
"She used two Unforgivables as well…"
Arcturus nodded.
"That she did… and if I remember correctly, doesn't the Ministry get reported when that happens?"
Sirius smiled and nodded, walking down the stairs and plucking her wand from her hand.
"That they do, Grandfather. I'll go open the door for them. They should be…"
A pounding on the front door interrupted him. Sirius grinned and moved to open the door, his hands to the sides in an innocent motion.
"Come in, come in… my mother, Walburga Black, there at the foot of the stairs, attacked my grandfather and I. Here is her wand. If you check you should see many deadly spells and at least two of the Unforgivables."
Sirius held her wand with his fingertips and dangled it out for the four surprised Aurors to take as they stepped inside.
"My grandson and I can provide memories as well if you need them."
Arcturus stepped over Walburga as he greeted the Aurors; Walburga glaring at them from her upside down position.
The leader of the Auror squad blinked in shock and slowly nodded as he checked the wand in his hand. Many very dangerous spells were displayed as well as three attempts at the killing curse and two attempts at the torture curse.
"The wand checks out. Lock her in magic suppressing manacles and we'll take her to the Ministry. Do you wish to press charges, Lord Black?"
Arcturus grinned evilly.
"Oh yes… I want her sent through the Veil…"
The Aurors blinked in shock as they gathered the woman up and floated her out of the home.
"We'll tell them your request, sir, but there will need to be a trial first."
Arcturus nodded.
"Not a problem… just let me know when."
The lead Auror nodded and followed his team out of the home, leaving a happy Sirius and a satisfied Arcturus behind.
"You did it, Grandfather."
Overjoyed, Sirius turned into Padfoot and jumped about barking happily as his Grandfather looked on smiling.
"One down… a few more to go."
Gringots London – Lineage Department – sometime earlier…
A black owl flew into the office and landed on the specially designed perch next to the goblin on duty. Taking the parchment attached to it's leg, the goblin unrolled it and grinned.
"Jasper… bring me the files on the current Black family."
A young goblin in the stacks of files surrounding the office nodded and quickly scampered up a ladder, returning with a long thick scroll.
"Here you are sir."
Gypsum nodded and unrolled the scroll.
"Let's see here… hmm… interesting, very interesting."
Jasper tried to peek at the scroll but couldn't see well.
"Interesting sir?"
Gypsum nodded again.
"Yes, young Jasper. The current Head of the Black family has made a few changes to the family tree. We are to record those changes and notify the affected parties. Get out the official parchment and prepare a few letters."
Jasper nodded and gathered the needed items.
"Ready sir."
Gypsum began.
"To Andromeda Tonks… this is to notify you that as per the request of Arcturus Black, Head of the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black, you have been reinstated in the House of Black as a full member with all the rights and privileges. These rights extend to your husband, Theodore, and your daughter, Nymphadora, as well.
A full statement of your financial status, as it is effected by this, is included.
Signed Gypsum, Head of the Lineage Department, Gringots London"
Jasper wrote everything down, his eyes wide with shock… but things would become more shocking soon.
"To Narcissa Malfoy… this is to notify you that as per the request of Arcturus Black, Head of the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black, your marriage to Lucius Malfoy, Head of House Malfoy, has been officially terminated. He failed to follow the laws set in place by the marriage contract he signed when he became your fiance. By making himself… chattel… to the Dark Lord, he negated any position of power he had before and made himself a slave.
There was a clause in the contract that he ignored… never become the slave of anyone else or lose any right you have to the hand of Narcissa Black… therefore your marriage is now over and the dowry given to you is to be returned to the Black Vault.
Until further notice, you have been reinstated in the House of Black as Narcissa Black, a full member with all the rights and privileges, as well as your son… if you agree to change his name to Draco Black and give up his connection to the Malfoy family.
A full statement of your financial status, as it is effected by this, is included.
Signed Gypsum, Head of the Lineage Department, Gringots London"
Jasper stared in awe at the actions being taken today as Gypsum moved to the rest of the letter.
"To Bellatrix Lestrange… this is to notify you that as per the request of Arcturus Black, Head of the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black, your marriage to Rodolphlus Lestrange, Head of House Lestrange, has been officially terminated. He failed to follow the laws set in place by the marriage contract he signed when he became your fiance. By making himself… chattel… to the Dark Lord, he negated any position of power he had before and made himself a slave.
There was a clause in the contract that he ignored… never become the slave of anyone else or lose any right you have to the hand of Bellatrix Black… therefore your marriage is now over and the dowry given to you is to be returned to the Black Vault.
On top of this, you yourself did the same, therefore you have lost all rights to the House of Black and have officially been removed from the family and shall henceforth be known as Bellatrix No-name.
A full statement of your financial status, as it is effected by this, is included… though with you being imprisoned in Azkaban, you have no need of it.
Signed Gypsum, Head of the Lineage Department, Gringots London"
Jasper finished the last letter and handed them over to the signed. As Gypsum finished, he handed them back and smiled.
"Lord Black is cleaning house it seems."
A ding sounded and a letter appeared on his desk. Opening it, Gypsum read carefully and as his eyes lit up, he laughed.
"Today just gets even better… it appears that there is another upheaval in the works. Walburga Black has been officially removed from the House of Black for the attempted murder of both her son, Sirius Black and her father in law, Arcturus Black, the Head of House Black, as well. The sheer audacity of it all. Heads will roll over this in the Wizengamot, Jasper, heads will roll…"
Home of Andromeda Tonks
A cauldron bubbled away on the fire as Andromeda Tonks stirred it carefully. Watching it closely, she gave it a few more stirs then pulled it off the fire.
"Now to let that cool then I can bottle it up and send it on to Saint Mungo's…"
A thump was heard upstairs and Andromeda rolled her eyes smiling.
"Mummy… owl for you… from Gringots."
Andromeda frowned and removed her apron.
"Coming Nymphadora…"
As she climbed the stairs, she could hear her daughter grumbling yet again about her name. Entering the room, she was face to face with a grumpy girl with vibrant neon green hair.
"I wish you wouldn't call me that. Why can't you call me Dora, like Daddy?"
Andromeda smirked.
"Because I named you Nymphadora and Nymphadora you shall always be. Now… the letter?"
Nymphadora harrumphed and handed over the letter to her mother. Andromeda opened it and began to read… then stumbled to a chair and sat down.
"Mummy?"
Andromeda took a deep breath and lowered the letter to her lap.
"Sweetie… go call your Daddy and ask him to come home. I have… unusual news for him."
Nymphadora nodded and ran to the fireplace to Floo call her daddy as Andromeda reread the letter, a smile crossing her face.
"Reinstatement… I wonder what brought this on…"
Home of Narcissa Malfoy
As she sipped her tea and read the latest gossip in the Daily Prophet, Narcissa Malfoy shook her head in wonder.
"To think, after all this time, the Ministry is finally pulling their heads out of the sand and actually doing something."
She looked down the hall at her husband's office and frowned.
"If only they could take care of all the problems out there… the world would be a better place."
She looked at her right wrist, a large black bruise barely visible under the edge of her sleeve. Lucius had been… upset… over another raid of their home and had taken out his frustration on first their elf, Dobby… then on herself when the elf was too injured to go on.
"He's becoming more and more violent as things change. He was never violent to me before… well, not really."
A soft chuff sounded near her knee. Looking down she saw the bandaged Dobby looking up at her pitifully.
"Letter Mistress…"
Narcissa took the letter and nodded, then opened and read it slowly. As her eyes widened in shock, a slow smile crossed her lips. This was her way out… for her and for Draco.
"He's young enough… I can keep him from becoming like his father. I'll go to see Grandfather. Maybe… maybe he will take us in."
She looked around for Dobby and frowned when she didn't see him.
"Dobby…"
Dobby popped in and Narcissa smiled.
"Dobby… listen to me very carefully. I want you to go pack all of Draco's things, very quietly and very secretly… then do the same for mine. If you need to, ask Mitsy or Flopsy to help… but I'd rather it just be you if possible. When you're done, I want you to come back to me."
Dobby nodded.
"Yes Mistress."
As he started to pop away, Narcissa stopped him.
"One more thing… Dobby… Draco and I will be leaving soon. Do you want to come with us and be free from Master Malfoy?"
Dobby blinked in shock.
"Youse giving Dobby clothes?"
Narcissa shook her head.
"No… I'm going home… to my family. You would come with me and be an elf of the House of Black. Would you like that?"
A wide grin crossed Dobby's face as he nodded eagerly.
"Oh yes… very much so Mistress."
Narcissa smiled.
"Good… then do as I asked and come back to me. We will leave and once we are outside the wards of this house, I will remove you from the Malfoy family and add you to the Black family. Now… go… but be careful."
Dobby popped away leaving Narcissa to gather up Draco and carefully make her way outside. She knew the owl notifying Lucius would be arriving soon and he would most likely explode over the news… and she wanted to be far away before that happened.
Moving to the nursery, Narcissa picked up the sleeping Draco as things began to vanish all around her. A smile crossed her lips at Dobby's work as she carefully made her way to the front door. As she reached it, Dobby popped in next to her.
"Ready Mistress… Dobby is done."
Narcissa nodded and led them outside just as an owl flew up to the window to her ex-husband's office.
"Quickly now… we must hurry to the ward boundary."
Running to the edge of the property, Narcissa's worry grew and grew, until finally she felt the wards wash over her.
'Now… Dobby, I hereby release you from the House of Malfoy and bind you to the House of Black. Do you agree?"
Dobby nodded eagerly.
"Dobby agrees."
Narcissa smiled at his happy face.
"Good… then let's go. We're going to Number 10, Grimmauld Place."
With a nod and a snap of his fingers… the three of them vanished as a yell of pure rage exploded from Malfoy Manor…
Azkaban Island… the cell of Bellatrix Lestrange
Rocking back and forth on her cot, Bellatrix stared through the bars of her cell at the guards as they moved about. One of them stopped and tossed a letter through them at her.
"Mail call… enjoy it… I know I did."
Bellatrix frowned and picked up the letter. Reading it carefully her frown turned into a look of pure rage.
"How dare he?! He can't do this to me! I'll kill him! I'll get out of here and kill him! I swear it!"
The guard laughed and shot a stunner into the cell.
"Shut up you insane bitch. You deserve it and you're not going to be killing anyone… Bellatrix No-name."
As he looked at her still form on the floor, the guard laughed and continued his rounds…
Number 10 Grimmauld Place… Home of House Black
"… come on over once he gets home. We'll discuss everything over dinner tonight… oh and welcome home, Andi."
Andromeda looked back at her grandfather from the fire, a smile on her face.
"We'll see you tonight then."
Her head vanished from the flames and Arcturus smiled and sat back in his chair. Sirius grinned as he sat on a nearby stool.
"Andi looked happy…"
Arcturus nodded and smiled.
"That she did, Sirius, that she did."
He took a deep breath then looked up at someone tapped the wards.
"Someone is outside…"
Standing, he made his way to the door as Sirius jumped up to follow him. Reaching the door just as someone knocked, Arcturus opened it to reveal Narcissa, Draco and an injured elf.
"Grandfather… we seek sanctuary."
Narcissa peeled back her right sleeve and as the bruise appeared, Arcturus frowned.
"Come inside…"
Narcissa nodded and stepped in, followed by Dobby. As the door closed, she felt a soft touch on her wrist. Looking up she was surprised to see the look on her cousin Sirius's face.
"Did Lucius do this to you, Cissy?"
Narcissa nodded slowly.
"Any other wounds and for how long?"
She looked at her grandfather and a tear fell down her cheek as she told her sad tale. When she was finished, Sirius looked ready to kill and Arcturus just nodded.
"Welcome home… Cissy. You three are welcome here… and don't worry about Lucius. He'll soon be joining his father in death."
Narcissa nodded as she wiped her eyes. Sirius gave her a warm hug and for the first time in years, she felt safe and loved.
"Your room is still upstairs. We can get Kreacher to clean it… or you can ask your elf…"
Dobby smiled.
"Dobby sir… Dobby cans clean it if Mistress says okay?"
Narcissa nodded and smiled at Dobby before he popped out to clean. Arcturus nodded and moved slowly toward his office.
"I have a few floo calls to make. Make yourself at home and we can talk later."
Narcissa nodded as her grandfather left, then turned to look at Sirius.
"He's going to have Lucius killed… isn't he?"
Sirius nodded.
"Probably… or find a way to do it himself… but enough of that for now. Welcome come, Cissy. First Andi and now you. My two favorite cousins back in the family. Andi and her family are coming to dinner… you'll see them tonight."
Narcissa blinked in surprise then smiled.
"That sounds lovely. I… I think I'll go lie down a bit."
She smiled, pausing to kiss Sirius's cheek, then continued upstairs to her room to have a nap. Sirius watched her go and headed to the kitchen to check on things.
Realm of The Morrigan
Harry giggled at the balls of light dancing all around him. They would fly up and down while changing color, then duck down to tickle him before starting all over again.
"Watch closely dearest. I'll teach you all you need to know about Magic. In time, you will know everything there is to know and take your place in the hierarchy…"
The Morrigan smiled as she watched her students play with young Harry. They were being gentle, careful with him, as she knew they would.
"Give me a few years and you will be a wonder indeed. You will control the powers of the universe… not just the flimsy wand magic that currently swims in your blood…"
She watched Harry's eyes as he tracked the magic.
"I'll need to do the rituals soon… once I convince Alexander, of course. Once I infuse you with my own blood… there will be no stopping you… my apprentice."
Harry giggled and cooed as his Grandmother watched on, planning and scheming away.
