Enjoy chapter seventy of Pride And Prejudice!
Owls hooting, crickets chirping. The full moon giving a pale light. A slight guide to King Darius who was once a Pridelander. Sena who was raised alongside Gwen when her mother, Aloria abandoned her to become Jadis or at the time.. Zale's queen.
Darius' birth mother was slaughtered in a massacre from one of Jadis and Keres' raids. That memory is unfortunately never going to be easy to let go.
Screams and cries of bloody murder was heard all over the kingdom of the River Pride. Two cubs hid behind a lush green bush with wide eyes as they watched helplessly as their pride members get slaughtered by a group of rogue lions and lionesses.
A dull beige cub had tears in his dark yellow eyes as she watched a light beige lioness get tackled. He wanted to scream, to run to her but knew he couldn't.
With a mighty roar the light beige lioness rose from under the hyenas and slashed as many throats she could before limping over the the bush and collapsing in front of the cubs.
"Mommy!" the dull beige cub cried before running to the lioness and buried his face in his mother's fur.
The lioness coughed before smiling weakly. "My little Darry. You will be alright, as long you and Rhys stick together."
Darius had tears falling as he seen his mother closed her eyes and her chest stop rising.
A tan cub with a black mane tuff on his head walked over to his friend with tears in his golden eyes. He placed a small paw on the weeping cub and pulled him close.
"It's going to be alright. But we got to get out of here."
Darius didn't want to but knew it was the best. He gave his mother one last nuzzle before following his friend away from the slaughter.
The dull beige lion has been thinking about that nonstop even while growing up. His friend wasn't as lucky when Keres and his group found them they attacked and Rhys didn't make it.
He was on the verge of death only remembering that his name was Darius until he was older and sworn he'll get revenge.
"Darius,"'
Darius looked up and wasn't too surprise to see his heavily pregnant mate sitting in the path towards their cave.
Queen Kahina sighed inwardly. "Where have you been? I was looking for you and..."
Darius smiled lightly before approaching the tawny pelted lioness and rubbed his head against his mate's. With a deep breath, Darius spoke. "Had a meeting with the Grand Duke of the Pridelands."
Kahina tilted her head, her bluish eyes full of confusion before widening with concern. "Duke Jesús? What did he want? Is the Pridelands alright?"
Darius nodded his large head. "They're just fine. Queen Kiara is expecting as well. But Jesús requested aid in rescuing his daughter from our enemies."
Kahina narrowed her eyes. "Jadis and Keres?"
Darius sighed deeply. "It's the last thing I want to do but... I owe him." before Kahina could question, Darius went on. "I was attacked by a Keres and his group of mercenaries where they left me for dead. Jesús came across my near dead body and brought me to the Pridelands."
Kahina was quiet for a while and it actually made Darius nervous before the tawny lioness stood and embraced her mate. Her head buried in the dull beige lion's dark brown mane.
"I'm glad you told me. But this doesn't change how I feel about you." Kahina licked Darius on the nose with a small smile. "Help Duke Jesús' daughter. That way, you won't be in the grand Duke's debt. What do you say, dear?"
Darius couldn't object. He knew his place not to. So he will meet with some of the Easternland guards.
"Come on, my queen. We need to speak with Farkas." Darius nuzzled Kahina before the two continued to their cave.
...
Queen-in-command Sherise woke and noticed that she was alone in the cave. Standing with a stretch, the dark brown lioness headed out of the cave and over to the edge of priderock. The first thing that caught her attention was seeing Kula rush over to Zuri who eloped with Minos, and didn't come back until recently. More than done with her pregnancy as she just went into labor.
Sherise shook her head. She didn't have a good feeling about this new cub or the new couple. Minos and his sister has been disappearing and that didn't sit right. But it didn't cause for alarm.. just yet.
"Sherise,"
Sherise looked from her aunt and cousin to to the slope to smile before she rushed over and buried her head in her mate's black mane. "I woke up yesterday from passing out and was looking for you."
Jesús swallowed the salvia in his mouth before lowering his head.
Sherise frowned before nuzzling her black nose into Jesús' cheek. "Is something wrong?"
The reddish-brown lion sighed before looking at his mate. "I need to leave for a bit. I hope you will understand."
Sherise stepped back with her ears against her head. "Leave? To where and why now?"
Jesús took a deep breath before stepping closer. "My daughter, Sherise. I can't abandon her. She needs me."
"What about me!" Sherise cried out. "You can't go! Not now.."
Jesús frowned before it dawned on him. "You're pregnant?"
Sherise turned her head to the side. "I feel so selfish."
Jesús stepped close and pulled his mate close. "No you're not. You just want me there when you give birth. But I'll be back."
Sherise nuzzled under the older lion's chin. "Promise?"
Jesús smiled as he laid his head against his mate's. "Cross my heart."

A few weeks later, a group of four lions stood under a ledge where their king stood with the grand duke of the Pridelands.
A large white lion growled before turning his gold eyes on the reddish-brown lion. "You still haven't told me what am I doing out here."
Jesús turned from the guards of the Eastern kingdom to Wasi. "I need your help as well to rescue my daughter. Please?"
Wasi snarled before huffing out hot breath. "Fine. Only because I want to set a good example for my own daughter."
Jesús understood, it's still a touch and go when it comes to Wasi trusting Jesús. Back when Scar was alive, he sent his hyenas to murder or chase away close prides that could threaten his rule.
The Highlands were unfortunately one of the prides that was slaughtered by Scar's hyenas. Which was also Wasi's pride. Now Keres and Jadis attacked a small domain that Wasi claimed with his young mate, sadly leaving a small cub without a mother.
Jesús sighed before he turned back to face the lions that were waiting for his instructions. "The area is well guarded. Someone who's capable of stealth will sneak in and lead my daughter to the border where the rest of us will handle any trouble."
Farkas, a creamy lion with dark marks around his eyes and a brown mane shared a unsure glance with his twin brother, Vilkas who looked exactly like him but with brown eyes as he had grey eyes.
Farkas turned his grey eyes on the Pridelands duke as he stepped up closer. "With all due respect, my lord. Who do you have in mind to sneak in?"
Jesús inhaled before stepping back as a white pelted, white maned lion stepped up. "My good friend and younger brother, Mwezi."
Mwezi gave a small nod of his head. But on the inside, he was nervous. He just hoped that he doesn't let his friend and brother down.
