A new god of Remnant
Chapter 12
-Pyrrha-
The idle chatter and self-platitudes of those around her was sickening as Pyrrha walked to a good place where she could keep an eye on the various people and guards looking over the gladiatorial ring. Her smile, fake as always, was sadly well practiced just as this environment felt all to familiar to the 'parties' she'd been forced to go to with her parents and manager after her old victories. Rooms full of people basking in their own self-importance, laughing at the suffering of others, and stealing the achievements of people who's opinions they don't care about in order to bolster their own already inflated sense of self-worth. She was snapped from her disgusted inner thoughts by Jaune giving her hand a reassuring squeeze, the blond boy paying the part of the dutiful and doting boyfriend perfectly. Hopefully that would be enough of a clue to get through his dense skull that she was interested in him.
"Do you know when the fights are supposed to start?" Jaune asked her, a tinge of nervousness in his voice, some of the various people nearby smirking in amusement at what they assume is simply nerves at a young man being introduced to 'this life' and not his nerves at the mission, not realizing that his question was about when their teacher would fight.
"No." Pyrrha shook her head, reaching over to adjust Jaune's tie, her leader's improving physique filling out his suit quite nicely. She was fairly sure she saw him steal more than a few glances at her in her dress so that was at least a silver lining in this mess.
"Hello everyone!" the loud announcement from the 'ringleader' of this hellish Circus stood up in his top box, Pyrrha, able to see the figures of who she knew were Coco and Velvet standing behind him "We have something special for you all tonight! We've managed to capture a 'Master' Huntsman to grace our humble little ring!" the scum around her started whispering excitedly amongst themselves as she and Jaune forced themselves to share an intrigued look. "That's right everybody! The famous 'Professor Jackson' decided he didn't need enough security at the hospital after that little fight of his. And while watching him kill that fake Faunus might have been entertaining," the entitled bitches and bastards around her all let out a scornful laugh at that "now we get to see how many waves of Grimm it'll take to put this lad down! So, place your bets folks, our new friend will be fighting multiple times a night every night till he's down for the count!" several 'long time clients' stared to cheer in excitement at the new spectacle they'd get to witness. Basking in the cheers, the ringleader snapped his fingers, guards dragging in her teacher, his neck and arms outfitted with blinking shock collars, all of them capable of delivering excruciatingly painful amounts of electricity into whomever wore them…assuming they were turned on at least.
"Anything to say to your beloved audience 'Professor'?" one of the guards sneered loudly, Professor Jackson remaining stoically silent so as not to risk getting 'shocked' now before Nora and Ren would have had a chance to get into place. "Bah!" the guard finished unshackling the Professor "Bet you're all talk anyway, try not to die too quickly runt." The guards walked out, tossing a single knife behind them for their teacher to use against whatever captured Grimm they'd unleash.
"Let's send in the man's opponents!" the Ringleader grinned, struggling to hold back chuckles to a joke he hadn't even told yet "Maybe the good Professor will grace us with a little 'lesson'?!" ugh, evil and unfunny, she wanted to throw up. From the various trap doors in the ring, some Grimm were raised in. Just three basic Beowolves for now but the crowd was already cheering for blood. Her teacher picked up the dagger, holding it in a stance he was clearly familiar with, although she'd never seen him even pick up a knife before. Perhaps it was tied to that dagger in his office?
There was no 'signal' to begin, the fight began the moment the Grimm charged at the professor, jaws dripping with saliva as they hungered to feast upon the flesh of a human. It was all too easy for someone of Professor Jackson's skills, leaning back at what would have been impossible angles for anyone lacking aura, a clawed hand sailing over his face before his dagger lashed out. Slicing through the jugular of the first Beowulf, the corpse dropping and dissolving as it fell. The crowd's excited cheers slowed at that, clearly surprised to see in person just how effective a true Huntsman was after having only watched untrained civilians without Aura, desperate and fighting for their lives after being kidnapped. As the crowed gaped, Pyrrha noticed a distinct flicker in the building's lights, Nora and Ren must have gotten to the power system and started their work.
"Pathetic." Professor Jackson scoffed, catching the second Beowulf's strike before swinging it at the third, beating one of the weaker Grimm to death with its brethren.
"G-guards!" the startled Ringleader snapped, ordering the guards to go in and collect the Professor after the startlingly short fight, the crowd upset at how quick it was.
"Alright brat, come on nice and easy." The first guard entered, waggling the shock collar remote. The Professor's response was to throw the knife into the man's shoulder.
"SON OF A BITCH!" the man snarled, pushing the button on the shock collar remote harshly only for nothing to happen.
"Surprise." The professor smirked before he started taking down the guards, the people in the crowd starting to panic while the security in the stands began to draw weapons, whether to control the crowed or subdue her teacher she wasn't sure, but either way, now was her turn.
"I'll be taking those, thank you." Pyrrha let her practiced and perfect smile fall into a confident smirk, relishing the chance to put scum like this in their place after their crimes. Knives, guns, chains, bats. Anything and everything metallic flying over to her as she disarmed the panicking guards, Jaune falling into a fighting stance in front of her should any try to rush for fisticuffs. Up in the top box, she could see Coco and Velvet leading a terrified ringleader away.
That moment of distraction through, was too much. She heard a sharp twang, like that of a compressed crossbow, before something sharp and cold pierced into her gut, puncturing her dress and driving a gasp from her lips as the various weapons around her began to fall to the ground. Her vision blurred as she saw the ceramic crossbow bolt sticking out of her, crimson blood pooling from and darkening her red dress. Looking up, she met Jaune's eyes, her beloved leader's expression one of horror as his aura started to flicker and fluctuate, just before exploding outward like a star going supernova.
-Jaune-
Power was coursing through him like nothing he'd ever experienced. But that wasn't what had his attention. Instead, all his focus was on the all-consuming rage that burned within him. His aura was surging both inside and out of him, one hand trying to hold Pyrrha's wound closed, white light streaming from his hand into her as he felt her own aura bolstering, speeding up the healing process for the wound that had somehow injured her when her aura should have been full.
His other hand had taken one of the guns that Pyrrha had collected with her quirk, firing at the person who'd shot his partner, and the rest of the guards. He was pushing as much aura as he could into the bullets, likely messing up the process but the brute force method was at least achieving some results. All the while, his aura continued to restore itself far faster than it really should have.
Unfortunately, he could already feel his seemingly infinite well of energy drying up, losing that endless status as he focused all his aura on Pyrrha, regular bullets being fired now to keep the various guards and those who hadn't fled to try and escape the building from leaving their cover. "Professor! Get up here!" Jaune shouted, Professor Jackson hurriedly leaping up into the stands, knocking out everyone he passed as he rushed over to Jaune and Pyrrha, doing some sort of water manipulation as he put the water on Pyrrha's wounds, the injury healing even faster now.
"What happened?" their teacher demanded; eyes narrowed as he gazed at the bloody ceramic shaft Jaune had pulled out.
"Pyrrha took their weapons but…but one of them fired this." Jaune glared at the person who'd done so, his first bullet having hit the hand that had fired the ceramic bolt "It went straight through her aura though."
"We'll figure that out later." The professor Promised, pulling his hand and water back as they saw Pyrrha coming to, her injury closed up thanks to both their healings and her own still mostly full aura reserves "But first, I should congratulate you on finding your semblance."
"My…semblance?" Jaune looked down at his hands that still had white light streaming into Pyrrha who was now fully awake, seeing where his hands were and the bloody ceramic shaft, "Pyrrha you-" he was cut off by her throwing herself forward and kissing the life out of him.
"…I'll go start tying people up." Jaune barely registered the amused voice of Professor Jackson as Pyrrha continued to kiss him senseless.
AN: Alright, next chapter I'll explain why the shaft hurt Pyrrha, don't worry, there is an explanation. Plus, other people will find out about the mission, and we'll see how the other teams parts went.
