Chapter 01 - What is happening
A destroyed land, lifeless, only nothing as far as the vision can reach, only the color red stands out, red like blood, red like Asuka's hair, red like Rei's eyes, red like Kaworu's eyes.

"Hey brat, look at me when I'm talking to you." Asuka snapped while tightening the collar of Shinji's costume, with his intense blue eye, Shinji could only look at the floor, he couldn't face her now.
"Are you listening to me? Brat "Asuka speaks again, a little louder this time and Shinji can only nod his head, shame and guilt is too much for him now.
- How can I look her in the eye when I only brought misfortune to everyone's life, Misato, Asuka, Kaworu, Kensuke, Toji ... Sakura. -Shinji thought sadly.
"So, look at me when I'm talking." Asuka speaks in a firm tone, Shinji could feel the hate in his words.
''Sorry." Shinji responds in a tearful voice. "Sorry Asuka" tears are streaming down his cheek as he speaks.
"Sorry? ... Sorry? ... Sorry!?" Asuka screams, she pushes Shinji every time she repeats his response, seeing that her anger is growing more and more with each step she takes towards Shinji, he doesn't defend himself, that's the least he thinks he deserves after everything you did.
"Is that all you can say brat !? She continues to scream as she stands inches from Shinji's face. "Do you think you can come back after destroying the world and almost destroying what's left of it and just saying 'sorry'?" Shinji can only cry and look at the floor.
Asuka sighs and starts walking again. "Come on brat, let's find a place to camp." she spoke in a firm tone.
"pathetic." She snorts and continues on her way.
"Asuka" Shinji's voice comes out almost as a whisper, but Asuka has always had a good hearing.
"What you want!?" Asuka snaps as she turns around.
Shinji doesn't have the courage to speak, he just looks at the floor where the tears fell on the red floor.
'Listen here, brat, just call me when it's important, I don't want to have to look at you with regret when I know you're not, you're selfish, self-centered and don't care about anything around you, just you' 'Asuka fires at Shinji, he can feel that every word hits his heart like daggers, but he can't hit.
- I know it's all true, I don't deserve mercy, I know I'm no good, I should have killed myself when I was still with my uncles to prevent all of this from happening, that was the best for everyone -Shinji thought while listening to Asuka's speech.
"And just address me as Captain Shikinami brat, do you understand? '' She asks Shinji with an intensity that could break an ice cube just by looking, he nods weakly.
"I asked if you understood, brat? "Asuka screams and Shinji can see that he has to answer or he will be beaten, he raises his head and says weakly in the best way he can.
"Yes ma'am." Shinji speaks and then looks back at the floor.
"Good." Asuka responds and returns to her walk.
After what seems like hours of walking, Shinji feels his feet hurt, but says nothing, he believes that the pain is the least he deserves after all, Shinji wonders what they are going to do with him and Rei when they are back.
Shinji realizes that Rei is walking a little behind him, she didn't say anything on this route.
- She is identical to her, how is that possible? -Shinji wonders all the time. - Does she know she is a clone of my mother, does that make her my sister? ... I don't know ... Would Kaworu know how to answer me? ... I wish he were here. - Shinji thought while staring at the ground in front of him.
'' Kaworu "Shinji speaks weakly.
"What?" Rei asks in his monotone.
"Nothing, Rei." Shinji replies weakly.
- Who does this brat think he is? Does he think he can go back and screw it up and think it's okay? And to think that I was falling in love ... For Asuka - Asuka thought while walking through the red earth looking for shelter.
- I must find some quick to rest, my feet are killing me. - Asuka looks at Shinji and Rei behind her.
- How can this brat do so much shit? How can he turn his back on me? ... for Misato and all his friends ?. -Asuka thought of annoyance.
'' I found a place, start arranging accompaniment. ", Asuka orders in a firm tone. "Brat, start a fire, clone, prepare something."
"How can I prepare something that I don't know what it is?" Rei asks confused.
"I don't know how to clone, just go do something, maybe stop the brat from making another impact." Asuka snaps at Rei and goes back to fiddling with her emergency backpack.
At this moment Rei approaches Shinji who starts to prepare a fire, Shinji was trying to light the fire, but it could be described as that he was not even trying, he was lost inside his own head.
''Rei." Shinji thought out loud.
"What?" Shinji is startled and jumps a little, but recovers from Rei's question that arrived unheard by Shinji.
"Nothing Rei, I was just distracted" Shinji replies with his head down trying to focus on the task in front of him.
"Captain Shikinami ordered me to help you with something," Rei says in her natural way of saying.
"No need, Rei, I can make a damn fire!" Shinji responds in frustration at not being able to get anywhere with the fire.
- Shit, I'm useless, I can't light a bonfire, it looks like I was just born to cause pain and destruction, I should have died in Kaworu's place -Shinji is thinking while still trying to light the fire.
"I do." Rei speaks as she takes the equipment from Shinji's shaking hands and lights the fire almost instantly.
When finished, she sits down in front of the fire and looks at him.
- Who am I? ... He calls me Rei, but what Rei will he say ... she calls me a clone, so is there another one of me out there? ... What will be my purpose? ... Why did I go with them? ... Who is my original as the other pilot referred? - Rei was thinking as she faced the fire in front of her.
"Here." Asuka throws Shinji a can of emergency food. "Eat, I don't want to carry anything more useless than you are on this trip" she tells Shinji who can feel the poison in her words.
"I'm not hungry" Shinji replies while looking at the fire.
"I do not care." Asuka says. "With the!"
"Because?" Shinji asks with his head down.
"Mein Gott, just eat the brat, don't make me ask twice.", Asuka snaps at Shinji.
"Because I must, it's easier this way." Shinji says while looking at the fire.
"What did you say?" She asks Shinji, more like a challenge to answer than a real question.
"It's easier that way, if I die, it's better for the world." Shinji responds by trying his best to maintain confidence, but he is failing, he begins to cry quietly.
"You think it's better, Hahaha." Asuka chuckles that even Shinji and Rei can see, she is too angry to control her words. "Do you want to die? ... So I tell you something, you will not die, we will take you to Wunder, Misato will take you to the UN for your trial, only after we get the most out of you, you will be able to die. " Asuka speaks calmly and threateningly, but regrets it soon after, as she can see the look of fear on Shinji's face.
"I see.", Shinji says as he picks up the can and starts eating.
- Scheisse, I have just implied that we will torture you, good move Asuka - Asuka thinks about the bullshit he said.
"Look brat," Asuka says in a calmer tone. '' I don't know what's going to happen to you, but don't think about it too much, we'll see that when we get to Wunder. " Asuka speaks warmly, but realizes that the damage has already been done.
- Excellent play Asuka, excellent play. - Asuka thinks to herself.
- Is Misato going to have me tortured? ... No, I hope not, but I deserve it anyway - Shinji thinks while trying to eat.
The cold night comes and everyone is trying to sleep, but two cannot.
- Shit, how does she get -Asuka wonders as she looks at the sleeping form of Rei. - Damn Wonder, stupid brat, why can't I think of anything else? - Asuka wonders while trying to sleep, but when she rolls over, she catches Shinji looking at the stars. - What is he weighing? ... You must be thinking about how we are going to torture you, me and my big mouth, congratulations Asuka. -
- What will happen to me? ... I even understand if they kill me, but what are they going to do with Rei, even though she's a clone, but she can even help Wille in some way. - Shinji is thinking while looking at the stars.
"Brat." Asuka spoke to Shinji, he looks at her, Shinji can't deny that she looks beautiful by the light of the fire. - I can not deny that I always had a crush on her, but now, I can not think like that, because I know it is something I will never achieve, so it is better not even think about it. -
"Yes, captain?" 'Shinji replies.
"Sleep, tomorrow we'll walk until we can call the Lilins, I don't want to have to carry you." Asuka says, but deep down she wanted to ask why, why did he end the world, why did he abandon everyone at Wunder so easily, he was so desperate to get his father's approval that he didn't even think about his actions ?, and mainly, why didn't he help her in the battle against the ninth angel? Asuka turned to the other side to think about other things and try to sleep.
- Sorry Asuka, really Sorry - Shinji thought while trying to sleep.

- Damn Shinji, why? ... Why? ... Fuck - Misato Katsuragi was wondering at the Wunder bridge.
- Why? - Misato asks himself one last time while rubbing the tip of his nose.
"Is everything okay, Misato? "Asks Ritsuko seeing that his friend has been looking down for a long time already.

Ritsuko knew why, she knew that Misato had seen that the detonator in her hand marked as "detonated", she knew that Misato was in a very intense internal conflict to try to maintain his composure in the face of the situation, the Wunder needed a captain, and the captain could not show empathy for the greatest terrorist who ended the world.
"You can go to your fourth captain, I'll take over from here.", Ritsuko told Misato who just nodded, she has a lot to deal with now, the death of her guard shouldn't be easy to deal with, Ritsuko thought with pity for her friend.
At this moment, Mari Makinami enters the bridge in her usual happy and carefree way.
"Captain." she says with a slight smile on her face.
"What was it, Mari? ... Now I don't have time for your graces. " Misato responds while massaging his temples in his chair.
"OK, I hope that the Cub and the Princess can continue their own luck," replied Mari.
"What puppy?" Asked Ritsuko, but already suspecting who Mari was referring to.
"Wow, Shinji, who else would it be?" 'Mari replied smiling from ear to ear.
By this time, Misato was back on the bridge, with a surprised look on his face. "What do you mean Mari ?, Shinji is dead, his collar detonated."
"No, ma'am." Mari replied as she leaned against Misato's table. "He is alive and very alive by the way, he and the princess are wandering the red earth looking for a place to send a distress signal." Mari at this moment was speaking with the greatest calm in the world.
"Makinami ... since when did you know this information?" Misato asked trying to keep calm and happiness under control.
"About a day ago." Mari replied dismissively while looking at her nails.
"And you just say that now, Mari!" Misato was shouting "Change of helmsman course, we have to find them before Nerv".
"Yes, ma'am." Replied Koji.
"We have to find them as soon as possible." Misato spoke excitedly, partly concerned about Shinji still alive, but partly happy that his former guard was alive.
"Misato." He called Ritsuko keeping his face neutral.
"Yes." Misato replied excitedly.
"You know he is still a danger to the world, don't you?" Asked Ritsuko dismissively.
"Yes, tell me your point here." Misato asked, starting to get irritated.
"Wouldn't it be better for him and the world to die? "Ritsuko asked casually.
Misato stopped what she was doing he turned in shock, along with some members of the bridge who were restraining themselves from shouting a "What", Sakura was trying not to cry with joy at the information, she couldn't deny that she was relieved by your hero is alive and maybe he could even fight alongside Wille in this fight.
"It is not up to us to decide this, Ritsuko, he deserves a fair trial, if we simply kill him we will be no different than Nerv and Gendo." Misato finished saying in a way that showed that the matter ended there.
