I do not own RWBY. RWBY is owned by Roosterteeth. I only own my little boy.

Ah, semester break. Just when it feels like it's dragging on too long, it ends and you'd wished it lasted longer. That….is a feeling I'm kinda nervous about right now. Because everyone's going to go back and then there's going to be homework and tests and late-night studying. I mean, I don't do any of that stuff, but it still sucks.

Basically, I want to do more stuff before the semester break ends. And with most of my friends either outside of Beacon's walls or left without bringing me along, I've only got one friend to do stuff with.

And she's the introvert.

"Blake, Blake," I poked her repeatedly, "You wanna do something?"

Blake, as usual, was on her bed reading. I couldn't tell you what it was about, but Blake definitely looked like she wanted to be reading that instead of being annoyed by me. Well, too bad sista! I'm bored and my attention span craves stimulus from other people!

Blake slammed her book shut. "You know what? Yes, I have something to do."

She got up and started walking to the door.

"Ooh, can I come," I asked.

"No," Blake responded. "This is something I do by myself. Which means I want you to stay here. Got it?"

"Yeah," I said, like a liar. Sure, the best thing to do would be to respect Blake's wishes and let her be. But, I don't have anyone to talk to. So, as Blake headed towards the landing pads, I sneaked aboard. Which that in of itself was a challenge. One, those engines are deceptively loud and two, I had a brief window of opportunity to get in before getting blown back out.

I managed to get in as the Bullhead lifted off. That also meant Blake spotted me immediately.

"David?!" She shouted. "Why are you here?!"

"What?!" I replied. "It's kinda loud out there?!"

"Never mind."

Blake grabbed me and pulled me up to eye level.

"What did I say about this being a personal trip?"

"Yeah, well, I thought you needed a friend? To be honest though, you don't hang around team JNPR as much as you do with your team."

"And why shouldn't I just drop you back at Beacon immediately?"

"Because I'm lovable and cute?"

Blake's face showed that this did not work.

"Also, everyone would be upset that you're pushing away friends again," I added. "That would include Ruby, Yang, Weiss, Sun…"

"I get it," Blake stopped me. She set me down next to her. "Just don't cause a scene."

I think we both got each other there. I think Blake's still upset over running away from her teammates. And I'm still upset over me and Velvet's date. God, it feels weird to say that.

Eventually, the bullhead landed and me and Blake got out and walked the streets of Vale. Well, Blake did the walking. I just rode on her shoulder.

"Hey, Blake," I said after a while. "Where are we going?"

"Bookstore," Blake answered.

"You know, that seemed so obvious and yet I'm surprised."

"It's ran by an old friend of mine," Blake looked for anyone who might be listening before lowering her voiced to a whisper. "Back in the White Fang."

"Ohhh," I nodded.

"He defected around the same time I did. I found him while getting situated in Vale for the first time."

"Okay, but why hide out in a bookstore?"

Blake shrugged, "I don't know, but I'm glad he did."

We eventually get to the place. It wasn't grand or impressive. It was simply called Tukson's Book Trade with a small phrase under it: "Home to every book under the sun." With a tagline like that, dude's confident in his storage.

We entered with a small bell that did the little ding-a-ling-ding. It was mostly devoid of people, save for the guy at the counter. Dude was big. Tough-looking too, with short black hair with prominent sideburns. Guy didn't look like a Faunus, so I guess that's how he was able to stay undetected for so long.

The dude looked up to watch us walk in.

"Hello, Blake," He said before looking at me all confused. "…and pet? You know we have a no pets rule, right?"

"Don't worry, Tukson," Blake said. "He's with me."

"Yeah, I ain't no one's pet," I cried out indignantly.

Tukson raised an eyebrow when he heard me. "So, the rumors are true. There is a talking werret in Vale. Out of everyone I could think of, why are you the most likely one to run into it?" He said to Blake.

"Wait, what's this about me being an urban myth or something?" I questioned.

"Basically, nobody has gotten anything concrete about your existence," Tukson explained. "Honestly, I thought you were made up by some tabloid magazine. The ones who spout that Taijtu venom is a good skin-care routine or that the King of Vale is secretly a teacher."

"Oh, come on! I'm at least above grocery store magazines!"

"Okay, everyone," Blake interrupted, "I'm just here for new releases. Can David stay and not get kidnapped or kicked out in that time?"

"Anything for a friend," Tukson explained. "As long as he keeps his voice down."

He pointed to a sign that read: "Please kept noise level to a minimum. There are people reading."

I shrugged as me and Blake went our separate ways. While Blake went off somewhere, I tried to find anything my speed. Fortunately, there was a bunch of comic books in store. Sure, I barely knew any of the titles and I had no money whatsoever. Sure, call me a jerk for reading them in the store without buying them away from Tukson's gaze, but I gotta fuel my reading habits somehow!

Yes, I read. I'm cultured, even if it's just in the comics section.

Anyway, after Blake found her books and did her deals, I put away one of the issues I was reading and climbed up Blake's body. Note to self: make list of comics you can pester your friends into buying for you.

"Alright, that's everything?" Tukson asked.

"Yep," Blake answered.

"Come again," Tukson called out while me and Blake turned to walk to the door. Before we left, Tukson asked us one last thing.

"Blake, if you want, I can call your parents to tell them how you're doing."

Blake stopped and turned her head slightly to look at Tukson.

"No," Blake answered after several seconds of dead silence.

She then walked out into the city with me confused and Tukson probably hurt.

As the sun began to set and the moon rose, I had to ask Blake.

"So, what was up back there? With your folks, I mean?"

"Nothing," Blake snapped quickly. "It's just I haven't talked to my parents in a while."

"Probably should though," I suggested. "At least let them know you're okay and everything."

"No. You wouldn't understand the situation."

"Uh, I think I can if you tell me."

"And you think I'm going to do that willingly?"

"I'll keep annoying you if you won't."

Me and Blake stared at each other in defiance until I started poking her face.

"Blake, Blake, tell me. Tell me."

Blake swatted my hand and yelled, "Fine!"

She took a breath in and said, "You know how the White Fang got a new leader five years ago?"

"Yeah," I nodded.

"Well, the leader prior to the current one was my Dad."

"Ooohh," I started to put the pieces together before they kinda fell apart. "Wait, can you explain that part again?"

Blake sighed, "My father was the leader of the White Fang for most of my life. He was the one who pushed for non-violent protests, even when those weren't getting us anywhere. Overtime, more violent solutions emerged from the Fang and became popular. More popular than my father's way of doing things. When he eventually stepped down, both he and my mother tried to convince me to leave the White Fang."

Blake looked pained as she remembered those events. "I bought in the new ideas. I saw how fighting back was giving us results. How we didn't have to sit and wait for change to be made. We could make it with our own hands. When parents asked me to quit, I…I didn't take it well. I thought they were giving up. I called them cowards and…much worse before I ran away."

Blake looked away, but I could see the tears in her eyes. "I haven't seen my parents in five years. And after what I did to them, I know they wouldn't want anything to do with me either."

Jeez, that's a bit messed up to put it lightly. And that was what my problem was. I'm usually a big joke; either by making them or being one. How do I convince Blake that her parents still love her and try to reach out to them while not breaking my character? Well, there are times where you don't think about what to say. You say it.

"Blake, I think that's a lot of hoopla."

"What?"

"About your parents not wanting to see you," I explained. "Look, take it from a guy who barely remembers what his parents were like. Your parents love you. Even if you messed up and said some awful things. They'll welcome you with open arms, trust me."

Blake wiped her eyes with a finger. "And how can you be so sure?"

"Try me. You still know your parent's number?"

"Yes, but it probably won't even be in service. They probably changed it already."

"Nope."

"Nope?" Blake repeated.

"No thinking like that," I explained. "Get your scroll and call them."

"And what makes you think you can convince me?"

"Either you do this now, or I'll tell Ruby and Yang about this and let them convince you to call your folks."

Blake eventually relented and we went to some sort of pay phone. It apparently connected to some big tower in Vale. Blake didn't want to make a failed calling on her scroll. The pay phone booth was almost similar to a regular pay phone, but replace the phone with a tablet-sized screen.

By now, the sun already set, leaving us in the chill of the night.

"They're probably still sleeping by now. They'll won't even hear it ring," Blake continued to protest this. But I was determined to reunite parents with their child, or my name isn't David! Which I'm pretty sure it is. Man, what if I got my name wrong all this time? Wouldn't that be weird?

"Come on, you got this," I encouraged her. Blake then typed in the phone number. The machine rang out several times in the silent night before it got picked up. At first, the screen was blank until we heard some mumbling as a woman's voice spoke up.

"Don't worry, honey. I'll get it."

As she got closer to the screen, I heard her grumble, "Who is calling us at this hour?"

The woman got into view, and we saw her clearly for the first time. She defiantly resembled Blake, with shorter black hair and larger cat ears. Still, the family resemblance is uncanny. She eventually asked who was it before looking at Blake and gasped, hand over mouth.

Blake made a small, sad smile before saying, "Hi, mom."

Blake's mom shook herself before leaning into the screen to get a better look.

"Blake?!" She said. "Is that you?! Where are you? How are you? What-?"

"Mom," Blake interrupted. "It's me. I'm fine and I'm in Vale."

"That's why I didn't recognize…Stay right there. I have to go get your father."

She moved away from the screen. I saw Blake's hand hover near the end call button, but I distracted her long enough for both of her parents to show up.

Her dad was huge with muscles all around. He had longish black hair. I actually noticed both of them had the same golden eye color as Blake. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it came to looks.

All four of us stood there for a moment. A mother and father reuniting with their daughter, said daughter trying not to run from her family, and me, the awkward fourth wheel in this tricycle family.

Blake broke the silence. "Hi, Dad. It's…been a while."

Blake's dad just looked concerned. "Are you alright? Where are you?"

"I'm in Vale. I'm fine."

Both parents sighed.

"We were so worried about you," Blake's mom said. "We'd thought you'd never come back."

"I…" Blake paused, trying to find the right words. "I just want to say…. that I'm sorry. About everything. I should have listened to you and…" Blake let out an exhale. "You were right. About the Fang, about Adam, about everything."

Both parents looked at each with worry.

"Blake," her dad spoke up. "I'm sorry you had to see what we worked for turn out that way. There's nothing more I would have wanted than to protect you from that."

"Go on, say it," Blake snapped. "Say how you were right all along and I was an idiot for not listening to you."

"Oh, honey," Blake's mom moved her hand out of the shot. I guess she was wishing she could comfort her kid in person.

"You're alright. It wasn't your fault. We don't blame you."

"Even after everything I said," Blake was starting to choke up.

"Yes," Blake's dad confirmed. "No matter what, you're still our daughter. And we will still love you."

Blake moved her head to wipe the tears from her eyes. She looked back at the screen, a genuine smile on her face.

"So, how have you been, Blake," Blake's mom decided to reinvigorate the conversation.

"Oh, it's fine," Blake answered. "I'm going to Beacon to train as a Huntsman."

Blake's dad pondered about for a moment. "But that means…"

"I left the White Fang. Like I said, you were right about them and where they were going. I just realized it too late."

"Are you enjoying it at Beacon?" Blake's mom asked, trying to move away from any heavy topics. "Are you making any friends? And what about that little guy on your shoulder?"

Blake explained as much as she could. She elaborated on her team and their misadventures. To tell you the truth, nothing came close to the shock on Blake's parents' faces when Blake told them one of her teammates was a Schnee. Thought, they did congratulate her for making peace with someone so different and helping them see another viewpoint.

Blake eventually got to me, in which she wrongly referred to me as a 'pet'. I protested, which got Blake's parents all awed in my presence. Though, I do know her parent's names: Ghira and Kali.

"You seem to make the most interesting of friends," Ghira commented.

"Friend is stretching it, Dad," Blake said. Which I responded to with a tongue.

The conversation ran more into the night, with Blake telling more about her life at Beacon and her parents giving her updates about Menagerie, which Blake is from, I guess.

Eventually, all the talk wined down as Blake said that her parent's don't need a bill for long-distance calls. But, that got them to recommend that next time, Blake should visit them in Menagerie next break.

"I'll try to write to you guys," Blake promised.

Her parents nodded before Ghira said, "Blake, know that we love you." Kali nodded with that statement.

Blake blinked and smiled before saying, "I love you too."

We all waved goodbye before the called ended. Blake and I just stood in that booth for what seemed like hours.

"Didn't that feel good?" I asked.

"If you ever tell about what happened here before I do," Blake smiled. "I promise I won't make it worth it."

"Aw, come on, you love me."

"Whatever. Now let's get back before someone starts looking for us."

We started to walk back towards the air lifts. All in all, I'm glad I pushed Blake to get in touch with her parents. They're nice people and I wouldn't mind if I had folks like that.

"Oh, hey, next time you go to that bookstore, can you spare me some cash and get some comics for me?"

"Not a chance."

Huegh, boy. It's done. Sorry for the long wait. Like I said in one of my other stories, writing has been really slow. More than I wanted it to. Combine usual procrastination with a job means I spend less time on writing.

And so, our 'break' chapters are done. Next time, we'll be getting into Volume 2 stuff. In the meantime, we got over 100 followers for this story! I can't believe it! Thank you so much for liking this sort-a dumb story. Not to mention all those who left reviews/comments and favorited this story. I can't thank you enough.

So, once again, I'm asking for feedback. Comments, both good and bad. What you'd find funny, sad, heart wrenching, you name it. It feels nice hearing what you guys think.

That's it all for now. See ya next time!
