It had just about been the perfect summer day.
Harry had picked Teddy up from Andromeda's at ten am, and taken him to the Burrow, where Ginny, Ron and Hermione, and Bill, Fleir and Victoire awaited them down by the creek. The adults then took the children swimming, taking it in turns to 'swim' the child to the next adult. Teddy was already swimming like a fish, and Victorie was trying to keep up with Teddy.
After an hour, the children tired, so they all got out and walked up to the house, where Arthur had been cooking on the barbecue the family had bought him for Father's Day a few weeks ago. Molly had served up delicious salads and freshly made bread, and Fleur had made a torte for dessert, and they had icecream as well.
When Victoire's eyes began to droop, Bill and Fleur packed up and departed. Ron left to help George close up the shop, while Hermione left to go get ready for dinner with her parents.
Molly took Teddy home with her to spend some time with Andromeda, while Arthur set to work on cleaning his new barbecue.
This left Harry and Ginny alone, giggling over the antics of the others earlier in the day. They had imbibed quite a few and were feeling quite merry.
" C'mon let's go for another swim," suggested Ginny, standing and holding out a hand for Harry.
He took it and rose unsteadily. "Woah."
"Hold on to me," offered Ginny, and he put his arm around her as they waved goodbye to her dad.
The sun shone down on them as the walked close together, almost leaning on the other as they commented on how much fun they'd had earlier.
" - sure Ron was copping a feel of Hermione under the water," muttered Ginny.
"Hmm?" Harry was having a hard time concentrating, thanks to the delicious buzz he felt throughout his body. " Teddy definitely peed in there."
"Ew, really?" She wrinkled her nose in a way he found adorbable.
"Really," he nodded, bumping his hip against hers.
He couldn't wait to get his shirt off as the sun bore down; he'd put it back on for sun protection. Ginny's own shirt gaped open, and he tried hard not to stare at her bikini top.
She was happy, he could tell, and it made him happy. She was humming something that sounded familiar.
"What's that your humming?" he asked, for it was too much to ask his brain to try and remember where he'd heard it before.
Ginny began to sing -
Don't you be afraid, come and take a sip
Of this steamy tasty treat.
What's in my cauldron of hot, strong love
will make your life complete.'
She burst out laughing, as did Harry. He wound his arm around her neck and she grabbed his hand. He rested his forehead against hers and she leaned into him.
"Happy?" she asked, although she could already see how at ease he was.
"So happy," he assured her, pressing his lips to her forehead.
"Come on, race you to the water," she taunted, flinging her shirt off as she took off.
By the time Harry made it to the edge of the creek, she was already in.
"Get 'em off, Potter," she leered, gesturing to his clothes.
He darted a look around and then began to slowly unbutton his shirt, his eyes locked with hers. He saw the flush of arousal on her face and was sure she could see the same on his.
"Yer a tease, 'arry," she mimicked Hagrid, and he chuckled as he rid himself of his shorts and immediately jumped in, landing right next to her.
He stayed under the water for several seconds, coming up with her in his arms.
"Harry!" she shrieked, her arms snaking around his neck. She leaned down and kissed him.
He pretended to let her go and she cried out again, till he cupped her bottom in his hands.
She wriggled mischievously against him. "Maybe we should never get out of the water?" she teased.
"Fine by me," he nodded, rubbing against her. " I like swimming in the creek."
"You've never swum in the beach, have you?" she asked curiously, taking a guess.
He shook his head. "I want to," he told her, " with you...like this."
She kissed him again. "We will," she whispered, "I promise. We'll swim and build sandcastles and have a picnic lunch and get sand in every nook and cranny of our bodies."
"We can surf, and snog in the water," he agreed.
" It's going to be a great summer," she vowed, kissing him again.
Harry couldn't help but remember when being with Ginny was like something out of someone else's life.
But now it feels truly like his own...and with a future he only dared dream about!
