Chapter 5: Decisions

Hinata had a sunken feeling in her chest as she watched Naruto run past her. She wasn't sure what was happening, but she knew that it wasn't good. As Naruto ran, she tried to get his attention, but he was either ignoring her or didn't realize someone was talking to him. Hinata followed him at a slower pace due to her pregnancy and as she lost view of him, she activated her byakugan in order to find him. She realized he had made it to his apartment and saw him hanging something to the roof. Quickly she had realized what was going on and started to run as fast as she could. On her way to his apartment, she ran into Ino.

"Hinata what are you doing you shouldn't be running around like that," Ino said stopping Hinata.

"There's no time to explain. Go get a medical team and send them to Narutos apartment," she said quickly.

Hinata noticed Ino wasn't leaving but was looking at her with concern. Hinata knew there wasn't any time to explain everything, but she wouldn't be fast enough, so she needed Ino to go.

"I'll explain later but I can't run fast enough in my condition to make it to the hospital to save Naruto. Please Ino just go," she pleaded.

Ino didn't protest she just gave another worried look and disappeared towards the hospital. Hinata continued running as fast as she could towards Narutos apartment. She was glad she ran into Ino she wasn't sure if she would be able to save Naruto but having a medical team present would increase his chances of survival. She knew she had hurt him. She ruined his life. Piece by piece he lost everything. First his family, then his friends, sensei's, village, allies, and his future. He had lost everything he had worked so hard for, and it was all her fault. Hinata felt like crying but she couldn't waste time crying when she could see Narutos body hanging from his ceiling.

Sprinting into his room she quickly removed the noose from his limp body and lowered it to the floor. She felt her heart breaking. She was losing the man she claimed to love. She realized he was still alive and did her best to stabilize him. He had a broken neck, but he must have been too close to the ground when he jumped. If she hadn't been following him, he would have died of suffocation. Thankfully she had been following him and was able to get him out of the noose quickly enough. Once he was stabilized, she got up and looked to see how far the medical team was they were still a few blocks from his house, but they should be able to fix him.

She looked around the room and realized her letter was on the table. She felt the seal break when he opened it. She had put a sealing jutsu on the letter so she would be notified when he opened it. She made sure it only reacted to his chakra so no one else would be able to open it. She looked at the letter and immediately felt her stomach drop. It wasn't the letter she wrote for Naruto. She had realized her mistake when she found out she was pregnant and wanted to fix things enough to convince Naruto to be involved in its life. When she wrote the letter, she also wrote one to Ay so she could call things off officially. Somehow the two letters got mixed up and Naruto had gotten the one for Ay.

Footsteps brought her attention back to the present realizing the damage those letters could cause she removed them from the table. Wiping her tears, she got ready to help the medical team with anything they may need. She heard Ino direct the medical team to Narutos apartment before seeing a group of five medical ninja walk in.

They immediately got to work. Naruto was stabilized properly and lifted onto a stretcher. Four of the medical ninjas lifted the folding stretcher and took Naruto to the hospital. The last medical ninja stuck around with Ino and Hinata so she could talk to Hinata and get her statement of what happened.

Hinata explained how she noticed him leaving the store and how she had wanted to talk to him, so she had called out to get his attention, but he wasn't responding. She also told the medical ninja that it was obvious he had been depressed and showed many suicidal behaviors, so she had been worried when he wasn't reacting to her at all. Then she explained how she used her byakugan to see where he was going when she noticed him at his apartment tying a rope to the ceiling and she ran into Ino, so she sent her to get help once she realized what he was doing. After that she had simply ran to his apartment and got him down from the ceiling before he suffocated and stabilized him the best she could before they medical team arrived. She had left out the part about the letter which was what likely pushed him to do what he did.

The medical ninja left after that and returned to the hospital leaving Ino and Hinata alone in Narutos apartment. Ino was looking around the apartment. She looked lost in thought, but Hinata didn't disturb her she had wanted to look around the place as well. She knew she had no right to act like she cared for Naruto, but she knew she messed up. Naruto wasn't the type of person to give up yet today he was more than willing to give up his life. She knew he probably didn't think he had much of a life after everything that had happened, he probably thought there was no point in living. He didn't know if the child would be his and he most likely had doubts about his chances of being involved in its life if it was.

As she walked around the apartment, she noticed he hadn't been taking care of himself. Dust was gathering on the instant noodles inside his cupboards, blood was covering the mattress in his room, and it looked like he wasn't doing his laundry. His bathroom was disgusting most surfaces were covered with blood. Some of it was dry but she noticed there was some fresh blood around the sink. Her heart sank as she witnessed the suicide and now that she saw just how bad it had gotten, she knew she had to find a way to fix this. Hinata knew it was too late to fix their relationship especially after the letter he read but she hoped that somehow, she could get the rest of their friends to trust him again. He didn't deserve their hate not when he had done nothing wrong.

Ino looked around the apartment and realized Naruto must have been suffering. The blood was evident enough to prove that, but she wasn't sure why he would do something like beat his own wife. Naruto was an emotional person and was truly unpredictable and kind of mysterious. He had never let his true feelings or thoughts rise to the surface especially not any negative ones. It was possible he was a violent and angry person, but it just felt wrong. Ino knew Hinata well and would guarantee she would never cheat on Naruto. She would probably choose death before letting another person touch her in such a way as long as she still loved Naruto and she knew she still cared about him. All the evidence lines up with Hinatas story. The broken furniture, the bruises, Narutos lack of emotional control, the miscarriage could have been caused by abuse. While Narutos story just made no sense. Hinata wouldn't cheat he had no evidence other than a feeling in his gut. No one in the village could even confirm that Ay was in the village when Naruto said he was.

Ino felt bad that Naruto fell so far but who would side with someone who beats their own wife? She was worried about Hinata she fell quiet once the medics left and had been looking around the apartment like she was. Ino knew Hinata still harbored feelings towards Naruto and watching her ex-husband commit suicide through her byakugan then coming into his apartment to see the blood stains from him self-harming. She knew she must have been in pain after witnessing the scene and she hoped she would be able to get over him before she decided to go back and forgive him.

"Hinata? Are you okay? Do you want to talk about anything," Ino asked. She wanted to comfort her friend even if she didn't agree with Hinatas feelings towards Naruto she understood them. She had fallen in love with him when they were children it wouldn't be easy to erase all that time regardless of what Naruto did.

"Mhm... Oh yeah I'm fine it's just hard to see Naruto in so much pain. No one should feel they are better off dead. I think he needs us. Before you say anything, I know. He abused me. I shouldn't forgive him, and I shouldn't love him still, but I do. No one should be hated so much that they want to commit suicide no one should feel like that's their only option. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think the group should try and fix things with him. Even if no one can forgive him or trust him I'd like everyone to try for me. I don't want to find out he died taking his own life," Hinata explained.

"Are you sure? It's not like he messed up a mission or like he's being hated for breaking rules or even being the container for the nine-tails. He's hated because he Abused you. I hate to say it, but it makes it worse that it was you he was abusing. You're the heir of the largest clan in the village. You are one of the most important people in the village just based on your status. What he did isn't something you can just forgive and forget. I care about Naruto I really do but are you sure you want us to try and comfort him just because he's depressed. Maybe it would be better if he just died. Don't look at me like that we celebrated his death when he left for that first suicide mission. We had hoped he died and was never coming back because of what he did. I don't know why you are having a change of heart even if you still love him, we celebrated his death before I don't know why you can't just let him die if it's what he wants," Ino said as if it was obvious.

"INO! I know what he did, and I know how awful it was and I remember celebrating his death as idiotic as it was. He may have done an awful thing, but I still love him, and I regret everything. It's not like he attempted to kill me or kidnap me. He didn't rape me or threaten me, and he didn't do any of those things to anyone else. As stupid as it sounds Naruto is a good person and I don't think he deserves the treatment he has gotten. I just, I can't accept him killing himself. He deserves better after everything he has done for everyone in this world. I'm willing to forgive him and if no one else is... fine I just hope I'm enough," Hinata said with a determined look in her eye.

"Fine. I guess I can try and forgive him, but I'm not sure how everyone will react to this. It's not like you're asking us to forgive him for messing up a mission or hurting your feelings, but since you seem to have your heart set on this I would rather you have someone there in case he tries anything," Ino reluctantly agreed.

Hinata hugged Ino and told her she was going to check on him at the hospital. Ino watched her friend leave and decided she should go tell everyone Hinatas request.

Hinata knew the entire truth and figured that even if she wasn't being honest with everyone, she genuinely wanted Naruto to be okay. She wasn't going to come out and admit that she lied and had cheated on Naruto. She wasn't sure how everyone would react, and she couldn't risk them deciding to turn on her. She had too much to lose and hoped she wouldn't need to confess to the truth in order to save Naruto.

As she walked to the hospital, she just hoped she could get Naruto to forgive her and convince him to live. She knew she fucked up she ruined his life all because she failed to tell him how she felt, and she only made it worse by lying to save her own skin.

Walking in the hospital she went to the front desk and asked about Naruto. She was told where to go but was also told she wouldn't be allowed to visit unless he allowed it since only family members were allowed to visit. She nodded and went to the waiting room she was told to go to. As she got to the waiting room, she ran into Shizune.

"Hinata are you here to see Naruto," Shizune asked.

"Yes I am. I wanted to make sure he was okay," she replied.

"Well, we just finished the surgery. His injuries were pretty bad his neck was broken in multiple places, but since you found him so quickly and we were able to stabilize him and get him into surgery so quickly he will make a full recovery. It also helps having Kurama inside to help heal his injuries. I'm sure you've already been told, but unless he wakes up and allows you to come in you must be family to visit," Shizune explained.

"Thats okay I just wanted to make sure he was going to be okay. How are the rest of his injuries it looked like he had some scars that I knew weren't there before and it felt like he had some cuts covering his body. His house was also a gruesome sight blood was covering a lot of different areas," Hinata said.

"Well, we noticed that he was covered in dried blood and had a few pretty deep cuts and scars, so he has most likely been cutting himself. He should be okay though once he wakes up, he'll have to stay here for a little bit to make sure his neck is healed, and his wounds close properly. After that he will be sent home some medicine to help with the depression and be on his way. He used to be such an amazing kid. What he did to you was unacceptable and he shouldn't be forgiven, but it so sad to see him in this condition," Shizune said as she looked down. Shizune was clearly torn up between seeing Naruto in such a dark place and knowing what he did to Hinata.

"Thank you. Just take care of him I don't want him to kill himself even after what he did no one should think killing themselves is a better option than living," Hinata said before leaving.

Hinata made her way back to Narutos apartment. She felt wrong about leaving him in those conditions and decided to clean the place a bit. She slowly went room by room, but eventually the apartment looked less like a dungeon and more like a home. She placed some curtains up and hung up a few pictures that she thought he would like. She avoided hanging anything that might stir up bad memories. She wasn't sure what to do with the letter. She was afraid if she left it, he might see it and decide to attempt to commit suicide again. She also didn't want to take it and pretend he hadn't read it. She knew he opened it and read it there were wet marks that she guessed were tear stains on it. She decided to fold it up and leave it on the table. She knew it was going to be difficult, but she had hoped if she was there when he got back, she could explain it and hopefully he would understand.

After a few days Naruto was set to be released from the hospital. The hospital staff had bathed him and kept him on an IV drip so he could get some nutrients in him. He looked dead before attempting to commit suicide so when he was brought to the hospital many were shocked he was able to keep living. Naruto hadn't woken up until three days after being taken to the hospital. He woke up confused, but once he realized where he was at and remembered what had happened the confusion subsided.

"Naruto you're finally awake. You've been out for a few days now. It's nice to see you awake again. Hinata got to you pretty quickly if she hadn't you would have died of suffocation. She just left a few minutes ago if you were wondering. I'll need you to stay another night, but you'll be cleared to leave in the morning. I'm prescribing you some medicine to help with your depression as well. Now get some rest we can talk more later," Shizune said.

Naruto heard what she said, and she sounded like she cared, but he refused to let that get to his head everyone hated him because of something he didn't do. He wasn't sure why Hinata was checking on him or why she had even bothered to save him. He just wanted to die. He was tired of being hated he was angry and what he read in her letters just sent him over the edge. He knew he couldn't do anything where he was, so he just laid back and decided to rest some more.

'Kurama I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that without letting you out," he said.

'Don't worry about it Naruto. I know how you have suffered as of late, but I'd appreciate it if you freed me before trying to kill yourself again,' Kurama responded.

With that Naruto drifted off.

As he slept his nightmares returned. He relived walking in on Hinata and Ay he felt the dread as he realized what he was walking into. He relived the moment everyone turned their back on him. Voices said he was always going to be alone that he wasn't supposed to be loved. He started to believe them. No one in the world would give him a chance to redeem himself even if he didn't do anything wrong no one would believe him if he said what he walked in on. If he had the letter there was a good chance as it was proof of what had happened. As the night went on his nightmares got worse. Slowly he realized Obito and Madara might have been right. The world was full of suffering and hate. It felt like people were just waiting for something to happen so could declare how much they hate a person or thing. As Naruto slept his dreams got more gruesome, he was no longer dreaming of the hatred that everyone felt towards him or how they abandoned him but how deep he needed to cut just to feel something again. As he reached the end of the dream, he was watching himself climb onto the chair before setting the letter from Hinata on the chair. He witnessed himself walk up onto the chair put his head through the noose. Then the drop.

Shooting straight up Naruto looked around the hospital room he was in. It was empty and he could tell it was nighttime as there was no light coming in from the window. He felt the cold sweat dripping down his back and across his forehead. His heart rate had accelerated during the nightmare he watched the monitor next to his bed as it finally dropped down to normal. As the night continued, he decided he wasn't going back to sleep. He didn't want to hear the voices he was beginning to believe or watch what Hinata did or witness every one of his friends turn their backs on him as if it were easy for them.

Slowly the night dragged on he had to fake sleep a few times to avoid talking to any of the medical staff as they checked on him but once the sun had risen, he knew he would be forced to talk to someone in order to leave. As he came to the realization Shizune walked in with a bag that probably contained his medicine she said he'd have to take.

"Good morning Naruto. How did you sleep last night," she asked weirdly cheerfully?

"I slept fine," Naruto said.

She made a face as if she was going to call him out on the lie, but she dropped it and moved on.

"Well, I'm glad you slept well. Before we set you free, we need to go over some basic questions. First why did you attempt to kill yourself. Did something specific happen that triggered it or did you do it for another reason," Shizune questioned.

"I'm just tired of being around. No one wants me here anyway," he responded as he refused to bring up the letter Hinata gave him.

"Okay second question. Do you plan on doing it again," she questioned.

"No," he stated bluntly.

Shizune had trouble believing him, but without evading his mental space by bringing in one of the Yamanaka clan members in she had to believe him and just set an appointment with him so she can make sure he's being checked on.

"Okay last question. Do you understand what you did and the consequences that would have occurred if you were successful in your attempt to kill yourself," Shizune asked in a concerned tone.

"Yes, I do," Naruto stated.

"I'm glad. You're clear to go but I wanted to let you know that an appointment with a psychiatrist was made for you. It's at the end of the week, bottom floor of the hospital at three," Shizune said as she handed him his drugs.

Naruto just nodded and left. He had been itching to get back to his home. It was peaceful there he didn't need to worry about anyone wanting to visit or anyone bothering him. He was free to obtain release. He quickly walked home and as he reached the door, he felt like something was wrong. Cautiously he opened his door and walked into the apartment. He immediately noticed the changes that were made. His house was clean and smelt like cleaning supplies. Pictures of him and Jiraiya as well as a picture of his parents when his mom was pregnant were hanging. He knew he never hung pictures since he moved back there, he didn't even hang up his ramen poster.

As he walked through the apartment, he noticed that a few more things had been changed. His room was more organized, and his mattress had been replaced. The couch in the living room was different as well it was bigger and of much better quality, he didn't know who had wasted their time doing this for him, but he hoped they didn't expect anything from him after everything he had dealt with the past six months while no one had offered even an ounce of sympathy or tried to take his story as the truth even though it was.

Once he had looked through the apartment and deemed it empty and safe, he went to his bedroom and looked for his ninja tools. They had been effective in helping him feel something since he went numb to reality. Sitting in bed he began to cut himself. He told Shizune he wouldn't attempt to kill himself and he meant it, but life would be impossible if he couldn't cut to feel something every now and then.

Hinata was worried. She wasn't sure how everyone would react to her request about Naruto. She wouldn't be shocked if it caused them to be suspicious after everything that she claimed happened and after they had celebrated his death prematurely. Ino said she would bring it up to them so she didn't have to which was extremely nice of her, but she was scared someone like Shikamaru, Neji, Sakura, or Sai might get suspicious and begin asking questions or would even demand Ino to use her families jutsu to investigate Narutos or Hinatas mind so they could find out the truth. She had been lucky no one thought of doing that from the start as they just believed her based on the evidence, she had that night.

Ino had gone and asked a few days ago but she hasn't been able to meet up with her and ask her what they decided to do. She decided to head to the flower shop that her family owned in hopes they could talk. On her way she kept thinking that everything would be flipped and all the sudden she would feel the same way Naruto has the past six months. She finally made it to the door and walked in when Ino wrapped her into a big hug.

"Hinata, they agreed! All of them decided that they would follow you lead and if you want to try and forgive him and help him through his depression we would help," Ino exclaimed. Hinata was shocked. She had expected they would help even if they were reluctant about it, but the way Ino was talking she was so excited like they were happy to help him after what had happened.

"Thats amazing. I didn't think they would want to help him so easily though," Hinata confessed.

"Well, it wasn't easy, but they care about you and if you want Naruto to be happy or less depressed or whatever they decided they would help. They also can't deny that even if they despise him for hurting you, they do remember how they felt before. So, we decided that we would all go to visit him at the end of the week rather than going for dinner like we usually do. I know you will probably want to visit him earlier than that so be careful," she said emphasizing her last sentence.

"Thank you so much. I'm going to go talk to him before that he just got out of the hospital and since I changed his apartment a bit he is probably confused, and I don't want him to be alone in the state he is in," Hinata said before leaving the shop and making her way towards Narutos.

Hinata was feeling hopeful. She realized that even if things can't be fixed completely, she thought that with everyone there to help maybe just maybe there could be a semblance of normalcy. Knowing that she had lied, and that Naruto probably hated everyone she knew it was going to be hard to fix what she had broken, but she needed to try.

She spent the three days he was in the hospital crying as she cleaned his apartment and added decent furniture to it. She couldn't stand herself. She broke the man that she loved since she was a kid just because she was lonely. She hated herself for what she did. She wasn't able to be honest with Naruto and it cost her the entire relationship. She chose another man over him because she was a coward. She knew she didn't deserve his forgiveness, but she hoped she could earn it over time and bring him back to his once happy attitude.

However, Hinata was being too optimistic as she dove deeper into her ideal turnout. She dreamed she could fix Naruto and help him past his demons that she created and raise a family together like the once planned. She didn't realize how naïve her thought was and she didn't realize how far-gone Naruto was after reading the letter she wrote. Naruto Uzumaki was no longer alive he was simply a shell of his former self as darkness filled the void that was left inside of him.

Another chapter down. I'm sorry this story is moving a bit slow. I know how irritating it can be to sit and read thousands of words before getting to the part you are waiting for. I hope as i continue to write this story that everyone enjoys it and the wait feels worth it.

Not much happened directly with Naruto. He was stuck in the hospital sleeping for a while. This chapter focused on Hinata and how she's holding up. Like Naruto she is breaking but unlike Naruto she is a bit naïve as she doesn't realize how fucked up Naruto will be after he attempted to commit suicide. After this chapter Naruto will be broken the letter was once again mentioned in this chapter and you'll see why it hurt Naruto enough to make him break in the next chapter when Hinata and Naruto meet again. Hinata realized her actions do have consequences when she realized Naruto was planning to kill himself. She was in denial a little over just how bad Naruto was doing regardless of what she had seen she felt that Naruto would never go that far so when she realized he planned to kill himself she figured out just how broken he was and that it was due to her actions. The letter only made it worse as it was one more mistake she had made that led Naruto to what would've been his death.

Hinata also was able to convince (with the help of Ino) everyone to try and forgive Naruto so as the next chapter unfolds everyone will witness what happens in regards to that situations.

Remember to like follow and review and if anyone has questions or wants to talk about the story feel free to PM me.

Until next time, Bye!
