Chapter 7: Her time away

He stared at the screens, waiting. He needed to do something. Anything, just to keep his mind from wandering...

It's been a few months and every mission, he was searching for her. He swept the area twice most the times just looking for signs of her, only to be met with disappointment. He didnt know where to look, he had no leads, and over all he just wanted to punch that robo asshole in the face. Just once.

"Slayer, If you dont ease up your jaw, your teeth may break. You dont want to be missing teeth when you find Rori do you?" Doomguy grunted and unclenched his jaw, before crossing his beefy arms over his chest. His armor wasn't on and it was his 'day off' as Vega called it, Flynn would often be wreckless and go on mission after mission without rest. His 'days off' consisted of Vega simply refusing to teleport him places, or present his armor. So Doomguy would sit around and pout waiting for ARC reports or distress signals. Vega had watched as Flynn spiraled into a depression of sorts, he was trying so hard to find her again that he was wearing himself to the point of collapse. "Dinner's ready."

"Thanks, Vega." He grunted out going to the kitchen table. Vega had made him a dinner fit for a king, Flynn sat and inhaled said food before lounging on his couch. He was fiddling with a tiny pin, it wasn't the mark of the slayer but it was the mark of the earth goddess. Vega had informed him of the information after it was shown to him, he wondered why he was given such a pin... "Hey Vega..." Flynn said.

"Yes?"

"Mind telling me 'bout this again?" He asked holding up the pin to the roof of the fortress.

"Sure." Vega said. "This is the sign of an Earth goddess, from what I have been able to gather before my core was destroyed, she was tasked with protecting the people of earth. It said she was even in Argent D'nur. You may have met her considering your past?"

Flynn grunted in thought looking at the pin, he certainly remembered when he was given it. It was given to him by Valen. But why did Valen have the pin? And why would a goddess that ruled Earth just suddenly disappear? Maybe she was caught in the civil war and didn't make it out?

Maybe. Maybe maybe. He sighed putting the pin in his pocket, it strangely reminded him of Rori. She was so caring, stable, unrelenting, reliable. Like Earth.

"Can you tell me anything more about the goddess?"

"Of course, what would you like to know?"

"What she looked like."

Vega went silent seemingly searching for an answer. Flynn sat patiently, shocking right, as he waited for an answer Vega let out a robotic hum.

"The Codex logs... They aren't there any more. This is peculiar, maybe Samuel has figured out I still have access to some of the databases?"

"If you still have access can't you figure out where Ears is?"

"Their coordinates are heavily encrypted, it will take a while longer." Vega explained. Flynn sighed and slouched into the sofa, Vega took notice and hummed. He was staring at the pouting burly man, Vega seemed rather amused at his behavior. "It's only 3 days. Perhaps you may manage until we get the coordinates."

Flynn grumbled and rolled over facing the back of the sofa. Vega sighed leaving Slayer to think over what he needed.

Vega wanted her back to, if not for Flynn then for himself. He just wanted things to go back to the way they were. Where it was just him, Slayer, and Rori. He wished he knew if she was okay or not, what he did know was that her communications were cut off via electric shock.

He let out a sigh and began working on the encryption again.

She's fine if she's with Sam... He hoped.

"Vega!"

Her voice exclaimed and he was instantly at attention again. For some reason he couldn't locate her suit confused Vega began to speak.

"Rori! Are you okay?! Where are you?"

"Vega?"

Oh...

Oh no...
