A/N: Hello everyone. First and foremost, I must apologize for the extensive delay between the last update and this one. Unfortunately, I took a slightly over two-month hiatus due to a stressful incident that caused me a lot of aggravation. Because of it, I had temporarily lost the motivation to write. While the experience was upsetting, it gave me time to reform bonds with some old gamer friends while indulging in the new Monster Hunter title that got released. The time away allowed for me to clear my head and find my footing once more in writing.

That said, I plan to try and resume my regular update schedule. My inspiration has returned (though the partial writer's block remains D:), so I will be pushing for at least one chapter a month, or two, pertaining that I can manage it.

Hopefully, this chapter is enjoyable after a long, anticipated wait. I definitely do not want to disappoint. :O

As with the last few chapters, this one is also unbeta'd. Considering circumstances in the country where SweetsDreamer lives and the unfortunate occurrences in her life, I can't say when she will get around to beta'ing it. For now, it will be left as is until the situation is better on her end. Nonetheless, I still appreciate all she has done for RoF up to the point that she had.

Summary: Chrollo and Kurapika have finally reached the place where the path will lead them to the final sets of the Scarlet Eyes. While in the Kakin Empire, they meet once more with the Genei Ryodan and Kurapika's friends to devise a plan and retrieve them from the final person holding them.

It was humid outside. The area was practically stuffy and inhospitable like nearly any thick jungle that laid to the south and dry as the compressed air within a raging desert sandstorm. The sweltering temperatures were a startling but thorough reminder of the weather often found in places like Ti'alma or other locations that lay further east like Odaria or Fallyne. Even the moderate stretch of shadows that extended from the many different groups of trees did little to offer shelter from the unforgiving pyrexia.

Stepping outside took some effort, as the wind itself had a noticeable bite and thickness to it. Just breathing in deep was enough to make anyone's chest tighten with an uncontrollable need to gasp or possibly wheeze. The very aspect alone was something that immediately caught Kurapika's attention as it had taken him entirely by surprise the moment he started coughing. Instantly, one of his hands lifted as he pounded it against his chest.

Once Kurapika managed to catch his breath, he swallowed thickly, the taste of sand lingering on his now dry tongue. Even his throat wasn't fairing any better.

It would be a miracle if he managed to survive the harsh environment long enough to find his way onboard the Black Whale.

The land of Kakin was definitely living up to its unspoken reputation.

"Are you going to be okay, Kura love?" A voice echoed from behind, and Kurapika turned to see Chrollo shifting towards him with Amar at his heels. The creaking of their luggage broke the lingering silence that encompassed the partially empty parking lot near the front of Kakin's sizable airport.

He turned to face the older man. "I should be, pertaining that both the sand and heat don't get to me first."

Kurapika's desiccant response made Chrollo's lips turn into a frown, his deep-set, grey eyes locked with his lover's own blues. "This can't be any rougher than other places we've been to babe, like that remote arid city you found me in. Also, didn't you basically grow up while living inside the confines of a forest?" He stated in a somewhat sarcastic tone. Kurapika quickly raised an eyebrow, but Chrollo did the same in reaction, the corners of his lips tugging slightly upward.

Naturally, Kurapika appeared incensed by his response, but even so, the sight of it made his lover look adorable. It was hard to ignore the firm press to those plush lips or the hint of rose that dusted his pale cheeks. Chrollo even swore that he also saw a brief flash of crimson overtaking the younger man's blue eyes, but it was gone in the very next instant. Riling Kurapika up wasn't hard, but Chrollo knew his limits and didn't want to push on any subject hard enough to the point that it royally pissed the other man off.

It wasn't hard to tell that doing so at the current moment would invoke such an outcome, so he refrained from going any further. Because he knew that Kurapika was definitely having a hard enough time contending with the tropical-like, sweltering temperatures of Kakin. So, it wasn't his place to dismiss it as nothing because his lover had once lived in a forest where that aspect may have been present.

Maybe extreme heat just wasn't something that Kurapika could easily handle.

"Yes, I did. You should know that already," Kurapika responded, his voice low, and Amar's ears instantly perked up at his stiff words. The young Nacknar's gaze shifted wearily between the two. "Even so," he continued, the edge then dissipating after turning to survey the surrounding area before them, "the type of weather that usually settled around Lusko wasn't to the same degree of harsh as it is here. Back home, it was a lot more tolerable and less humid. In this place? It's far worse."

Slender fingers raked through his lightly dampened locks thanks to the lingering moisture in the air. At this point, his Nen would be the only thing to help combat such an intolerable climate. Though, focusing on his objective - and the fact he was getting closer to gathering the last remaining Scarlet Eyes, was enough to draw his attention from his currently annoying plight. Kurapika sighed. Now, all they had to do was meet up with the others, including the rest of the Genei Ryodan. His future comrades.

At least he was going to see his friends again.

Though, if all went well with this mission, then he would walk away with way more than just the last ten pairs of his brethren's eyes. Hopefully, it would finally solidify his place among the Spiders.

Kurapika felt a sudden weight on his shoulder, and it had pried his attention from the vast landscape and toward the tall, dark-haired man beside him. Chrollo's expression had changed, at least behind those abyssal grey eyes, although his - rather annoying - smirk remained. "I see," his lover drawled, "but I don't blame you for having difficulty coping. I had never realized the differences in climate between here and your home, or other places for that matter. I had just assumed that you had built up a tolerance after all those years while living in the woods."

The comment had earned another sigh from Kurapika's lips, but he didn't entirely reproach his lover for thinking the way he had. Call it a lack of experience or something else completely, but Chrollo hadn't been malicious in what he said. Kurapika briefly closed his eyes.

"Don't worry about it. I am not angry, nor is it a big deal. For now, I will be fine, trust me there. We have other aspects to deal with, and keeping a focus on that is more important." Right after he had finished speaking, there was an intermittent silence, and during that brief span, Kurapika had expelled the breath that he had been holding and reached over to gently touch Chrollo on the cheek. The tips of his slender fingers glided over the soft skin there before finally coming to rest. "Please forgive me for responding so harshly. It's fine, really. I am definitely tougher than I look." After pulling away, he bent down to scritch behind Amar's tall, black ears to ensure that his companion didn't feel uneasy as well.

Even after he pulled away, Chrollo watched him with mild interest. The curves of his chiseled face had softened, and Kurapika let his mouth quick up into a faint smile. "You have no reason to apologize, angel. I was a little out of line, so your response was justified. Still, I do believe what you say and I only wanted to ensure that you would be alright. I do care about you nonetheless." Seconds later, Chrollo bent down to plant a tender kiss to the corner of Kurapika's lips before standing straight again. Crimson suffused over his lover's flesh, but it only lasted a fraction of a second before fading away. He then nodded his assent. "Though, taking into consideration what you said, we should probably get going. We have to meet up with the rest of the Ryodan. I also assume that your friends are to arrive as well?" He added inquisitively.

Watching the tender moment slowly unfolding before him made Amar almost hyper-aware of just how firmly bound the two men were. The remnants of Kurapika's hand upon his head had also brought about a sense of comfort and familiarity as any gentle gestures from him were a good sign, especially since he was doing anything possible to keep proving his value and worth to both of them.

Amar tilted his head to the side once his shorter companion mentioned the need to get moving. "I offer no objections on my end. Though I will say that I am rather interested in meeting these friends of yours." He commented with an underlying air of confidence to his voice. Amar hoped that it didn't vibrate too heavily within both their heads.

For a second, Kurapika had stood almost perfectly still, and his eyes fixed on the landscape before him again. The scenery, despite where they were, distracted him from the reality at hand. He breathed in before turning to face both his lover and companion. "They are. I am sure all three of them are here by now. If not, they will be here soon." Kurapika paused and then let his gaze fall on Amar, who stood a few centimeters away. "What I will say however, is that I am not quite sure how they will react to you as all of them, including the rest of the Genei Ryodan were there during the battle at Mirie. Coming into contact with another creature like them may invoke some unpleasant responses. None of them know yet that you are different from the rest of the Nacknars."

There was a strange, somber-like quiet that lingered in the air around them. Amar had briefly let his head hang down in repentance as a strong pang of guilt wrenched his gut. The fact that he remembered exactly how much damage was caused by his kind had struck hard. Gaining Kurapika's acceptance had been difficult, especially now, but trying to do the same with their friends would be challenging.

Pertaining, they even considered trying to accept him at all. There was no way to tell just how they would react, as Kurapika had said.

Knowing that made it harder on Amar. His ears fell back. "I… do understand why they would feel that way, and I hope that I can change it as I am trying with you. Seeing the likes of me, and after such a grueling fight won't be easy, that I know, but I still want to prove my worth in any way I can, and that includes them." Seconds after finishing his words, Amar lifted his head and met both men's gazes head-on. Although he still had some trouble reading human emotions, Amar was able to make out the underlying recognition of his determination in their expressions.

It was a bit comforting.

"I can't say exactly how well Kurapika's friends will handle seeing you," Chrollo began, his hands firmly planted in the pockets of his long, black, and fur-lined coat, "but I do know how my Spiders will react, and I can guarantee that it won't be warm like you may be hoping for. However, if they hear from me that I trust you, their reaction may very well be much different." He kept his eyes firmly locked on Amar but let his voice prove his validity.

Even Kurapika attempted the same, though he was sure the only ones who would be skeptical were Killua and Leorio, though probably Leorio more than either of them. "Honestly," he chimed in almost immediately after Chrollo, "my friends may not take it as hard, especially since you have been traveling with us for quite some time now. Although I have Chrollo to vouch for you, it doesn't mean they will accept you instantly. It took them some time just to accept him, and even then, both groups still have trust issues." Kurapika paused momentarily, and his expression softened. "Throwing you into the mix could potentially add more stress to the situation, but we will deal with it when the time comes." He added with a faint smile of confidence on his pale lips.

Garnering his friend's trust, plus that of the other Ryodan wasn't going to be easy for Amar, just as it was regarding his own battle with earning the Ryodan's trust. There was still a considerable amount of doubt, and with Amar, it would only be heightened. He could only hope that over time, it would get abolished.

Kurapika knew he wasn't looking forward to facing the Genei Ryodan once again because of this, but if he was to gain their trust, then he had to do what he must. It was no different for Amar when it came to the young Nacknar doing the same to earn his.

"And I will do whatever I must to change that," Amar spoke rather suddenly, though his voice was filled with passion and resolve.

Both Kurapika and Chrollo nodded in assent towards the young Nacknar's fervent vow and solidly believed that his will was strong enough to do so. That much had been made clear in his determination to do the same with them. "I have complete confidence in your abilities, Amar. You have my full support with this," Chrollo added unwaveringly. Not only was their companion a powerful new ally, but also a valuable asset.

Not only that, but Amar was also intent on them being friends. Which he didn't entirely refute. Plus, it was having a positive influence on Kurapika. That alone made him more accepting of the young Nacknar. Seeing it change his lover and for the better was enough for Chrollo.

"I can say that it is the same for me as well," Kurapika conferred seconds later, and Amar tried to grin the best that he could. They really were understanding and tried to be accommodating.

"Thank you." He conveyed in sheer appreciation.

Moments later, Chrollo stepped forward. "Alright then, it's best for us to get moving. We have to rendezvous with my Spiders in two hours at a remote park shelter that Shalnark happened to find not too far from here. I would also ensure that your friends are aware of the location as well."

The statement made Kurapika glance at him. "Don't worry, I plan to. They are supposed to call me not long after getting here, and I will inform them of it then."

"Good," Chrollo stated and tightened his grip on the handle to his suitcase while handing the other one to Kurapika. "Let's go." He commanded and fell into silence afterward. There was a lot of planning ahead.

The wooden bench was rather hard and quite itchy to sit on, and with the wind blasting its humid thickness across his face, it made Kurapika shift impatiently in his seat. They had arrived earlier than expected, almost well ahead of the others, and waiting had become increasingly taxing, mainly because of the Genei Ryodan.

His friends had already called to confirm their presence in Kakin and would arrive shortly after the spiders. It was going to be strange having them all together again, just as it was back when they met up in Winden to discuss how they would deal with the remaining Nacknars around Mirie.

It was going to be both joyful and exciting but also tense, the apprehension he felt only growing as time ticked closer to when they would all finally be there. Kurapika shifted again nervously beside Chrollo, who, in turn, had faced him with a look of concern. "Are you worried babe?" The older man asked, and Kurapika could only scrunch his face in response.

"I am definitely not looking forward to any drama that might ensue from my presence here. Then we also have Amar. The Spiders already have trouble accepting me as is, not to mention, the fact that I plan to become a full member." Kurapika looked down and noticed that his chains had oddly materialized on his right hand. He fiddled with them absently using the other. "That Samurai guy is the one I look forward to seeing the least," Kurapika continued. The thought of it made him shiver.

The fact that his lover was stressed became rather evident - Kurapika was visibly pale, though only slightly more so than usual. A soft, gentle sound of tinkling had accented the air around them, and it didn't escape his notice that Kurapika's silver Nen chains had made themselves known. Looking at them had sometimes brought about strange, and only rarely, unpleasant memories, but now they only radiated a warmth that drew him in, one that enticed Chrollo towards the younger man more times than not.

He reached over and gingerly ran his fingertips over the surface of the chains, the sensation making him tremble, even if slightly, and a smile graced his lips. "I understand why you would feel as apprehensive as you do love," Chrollo commented softly, his eyes shifting momentarily towards Amar, who sat beside them, ever watchful, almost like a sentinel, "and that you are still having a bit of trouble coping. But one thing you have to remember is that showing weakness and frailty will only prove any lack of trust that is already there. You're much stronger than that, and also quite skilled. Plus your physical prowess makes you highly valuable. It's not going to be easy for them to accept you - and while some of them currently may - because of what happened with Uvogin, it will take time for all of them to come around. Though I fear it may take the longest for Nobunaga. He and Uvo were relatively close."

Almost immediately after the last words slipped from his mouth, Chrollo moved his hand away from Kurapika's beckoning chains and let it come to rest against the side of his jaw. Slowly the tips motioned gently over the surface of the younger man's chin with the hope of at least - even if minutely - relieving Kurapika's worry. The trial that he was going through wasn't quite over, but the very least he could do was be the pillar of support that his lover needed.

Warmth encompassed the surface of his hand as Chrollo noticed that Kurapika's had come to lay over it. Although he could see the trepidation wavering behind those beautiful cerulean eyes, the thread of determination swimming just beneath was unmistakable. Kurapika was strong, with the willpower that was practically forged in iron. He would get through this, just as he was during his journey to reclaim the Scarlet Eyes.

Kurapika was a fierce angel, powerful and efficacious. An epitome of pure divinity. And while he continued to be a rare but cherished treasure, Chrollo worshiped the very ground he walked on. Nothing would change that.

"I haven't forgotten," Kurapika said intelligibly, his gaze locked with Chrollo's own, and for a brief, tangible moment, the young Kurta let himself become lost within them. There weren't many times where Kurapika willingly succumbed - and so openly - to his lover's allure, but this was one of those few instances where he didn't actually mind. Despite that public displays of affection were something that he absolutely hated, Kurapika disregarded where they currently were. Chrollo was openly showing him comfort, and while that wouldn't have been the case under different circumstances, he wasn't about to chastise the older man for it.

Yet, the tender display had only lasted a few scant minutes, and fortunately, Chrollo had moved away just before the sound of shuffling had abruptly drawn their attention. It didn't take long for Kurapika to realize that multiple presences had snapped into his awareness as the sensation of strong, rapacious energy broke through his field of En. He stiffened instantly, though Chrollo's arm had slid around him and tightened without hesitation as the vision of silhouettes in the distance melded into recognizable images.

"Oi! We finally managed to find you Danchou! Sure as hell took long enough because a certain someone is absolute shit with directions."

There was the sound of someone responding with a sharp "Hey! At least I got us here!" and Kurapika turned away from Chrollo to see a tall, slightly darker blond man lacking eyebrows standing next to a shorter man, but who also had blond hair. Kurapika immediately identified the tech geek with his trademark lavender-hued clothes, though it took him a few seconds to recall who the other person was.

It rattled in his mind as he cited the time when they had raided a bank while in the city of Dalry, and Kurapika distinctly remembered which members of the Genei Ryodan had tagged along with them. Machi had been one, but the man named Phinks had been another.

His eyes quickly found the other—Feitan, who was only a short distance away, but the stout man's hard stare landed on him rather quickly. Kurapika could see those scrutinizing grey eyes narrow odiously.

The spiders filled into the large picnic area one by one, and soon, ten sets of eyes were all centered on him. Even their newest member, aside from himself, Killua's younger brother, Kalluto, was standing there, silent and watching, those eyes unblinking and unwavering.

Repressing the cold, emphatic shiver that surged up along his spine was hard, even as he faced those who adamantly judged him, and Kurapika squared his shoulders, blanched lips turning down at the corners.

"I see the brat is still with Danchou," Phinks stated injuriously, a scowl plastered openly upon his visage. The man's fists were curled at his side, though neither of them was curled tight.

"You're kidding?!" Another voice boomed out, one that Kurapika also quickly recognized, and he groaned inwardly. It seemed their Samurai, the man called Nobunaga, was already off to a good start with causing trouble. "I had really thought the bastard would have left by now. It seems that he still has his claws deep into Danchou."

"I did tell you that he wasn't going anywhere," Shalnark chimed in, though he retained that usual, cheery smile and airy voice he was known for.

While it seemed he was pleasant on the surface, below that was the essence of someone who was neurotic. The man had a calm facade that easily fooled anyone while drawing them in with alluring falsities. Still, when it came down to it, Shalnark was the most helpful and had been one of the first who was more accepting of him and Chrollo's relationship. Perhaps Shalnark didn't trust him entirely, but the other blond man had been more open to the idea of accepting him than most of the others.

Machi had been the only other one to support the idea.

"Well, he did vow to prove himself to us," Feitan chimed in as he emerged from the back, though he was almost eclipsed by the looming shadow that Franklin had cast.

"Don't fucking remind me," Nobunaga snapped, and his hand reached for the hilt of his sword. "I still don't like the idea of the damned Chain User joining us." He added, venom heavy in his voice. Kurapika merely stared at him as the man sneered blatantly in his direction.

There was an immediate pause before a sharp huff cut through the slowly building discourse. "Will the both of you just stop it?" The tone of a firm, commanding female voice brought the argument to a halt, and a woman sporting pink hair stepped forth. "Don't forget, it was Danchou's decision to let him join us, and we all agreed to accept that. Furthermore, as Fei said, Kurapika did state that he would continue showing us that we can trust him. So far, I haven't seen any reason to discredit that," Machi spoke with finality, her expression strenuous.

Again, there was a moment of silence as the Spiders appeared contemplative, though Nobunaga seemed conflicted. He still held a scowl on his face, fingers dancing over the hilt of his sword.

"Yeah well, I still don't like it." He responded gruffly, a stony expression on his face. Nobunaga continued to eye Kurapika sharply, yet he made no motion to move. Perhaps Machi's stern comment had ceased any intention there was.

The Genei Ryodan stood there for several long moments, watching Kurapika critically, and all he could do was face-off with them in silent deliberation. Amar had shifted his gaze several times between the large group of humans to his companions, grateful that at least none of the new arrivals had noticed him yet. If they were anything like how they had currently presented themselves, he could only speculate their reaction once they realized his presence and exactly what he was.

"Are these people the friends that you had warned me about?" Amar questioned hesitantly, his attention remaining heavily fixed on them.

Chrollo nodded quickly in the Nacknar's direction, then finally raised a hand up after the stillness had lingered on for far too long, his patience waning from the behavior of his subordinates. He expected there would have been more civility - or at least, some attempt at it - by now, but the lack thereof had only weighed on his growing intolerance. Back when they had questioned his leadership after learning about Kurapika and their relationship, the consensus was to entrust in his judgment. The fact his lover had adamantly vowed to prove his worth and loyalty to the Spider by joining them only furthered that decision.

He had even agreed to get the spider tattoo without a second thought. Chrollo knew that Kurapika was undeniably trustworthy as the younger man had shown time and again just how devoted he is to not only himself but the Genei Ryodan as well. Plus, he knew the love they shared was real, as there were so many points that Kurapika could have killed him, even before releasing his Nen and never did. If his precious Kurta lover had felt any differently, they wouldn't have made it as far as they had.

Early on, Kurapika might have followed through with his intent to eliminate them, but that had since changed. There weren't any implications that Kurapika had considered otherwise. He had made a vow and never wavered in upholding it, even now.

Immediately, all eyes turned from the younger man at his side toward him, and their weighing gazes caused his frown to return again. Yet, he had one thing to be grateful for; the fact that none of them had noticed Amar. However, quelling their unbridled fury and curdling bloodlust towards Kurapika was his current and primary focal point.

At least Machi was reasonable about the situation, and Shalnark seemed more accepting now. Feitan had become more considerate of the aspect, while Bonolenov, Franklin, Shizuku, and Kortopi appeared contemplative. Phinks and Nobunaga were still on the fence, though both had been close with Uvogin and were resentful towards Kurapika for what happened to him. In truth, Nobunaga had the most anger out of them, which made him the least tolerant.

Kalluto was the only one that he was uncertain about as the young Zoldyck was new, and he had not gotten the chance to know the kid.

"I have not forgotten about your stances, or feelings regarding Kurapika. However, all of you have agreed to give him a chance to prove his worth and fealty to the Spider. Again you can see," Chrollo then made a sweeping hand gesture to Kurapika before going back towards himself, "that no harm has come to me and our bond presently remains strong. Not once has Kurapika made any indication towards betraying me, nor the rest of you, so I ask that everyone continue to be patient as you work alongside him."

The sound of muffled conversation filled the air instantly after that, and Chrollo turned to face his lover seated beside him. Kurapika appeared stiff, his back fully erect, though his vibrant blue eyes looked sharper than usual. Amar's own gaze trailed up to meet them. "Don't worry about them, babe. You just keep on doing what you pledged to do, and in time, surely they will all come around. A few of them already seem to be trying to accept you, especially Machi, and believe me when I say most of them do trust her intuition and judgement." He reached over to plant a hand on Kurapika's shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze before pulling away. Making sure that his lover never vacillated in his confidence and determination was a top priority, primarily when it came to the rest of the Genei Ryodan.

All of them were Kurapika's future comrades, and damn it to hell if they weren't going to learn to work together. Regardless of what happened in the past, the situation had changed, and all they now had was the future to look forward to. Nothing was going to change that.

Kurapika shifted beneath the weight of Chrollo's hand and turned to face him. "I am well aware of that, and plan to continue doing as I have said without any hesitation. Of course I won't lie, and say their lack of tolerance doesn't bother me, or the fact that I have been doing whatever I can to show them I am trustworthy, but it hasn't impeded my desire, or confidence to push on. At some point however," Kurapika paused, and for a brief second, his gaze trailed down to his hands that had inadvertently curled into fists, "they are going to have to accept me as I don't plan on going anywhere. I love you and that is something I refuse to give up."

The startling revelation made Chrollo jerk before staring hard into Kurapika's eyes. Naturally, he knew just how the younger man felt about him - the love they shared was unyielding - but for him to say it during a time like this, and with such passion and zeal had renewed Chrollo's faith in them.

It caused his lips to curl up into a broad grin. "Hearing you say that pleases me. However, you are not wrong in what you say, angel. While I do understand their persistence with not wanting to fully accept you has worn on your patience, the only way you're going to change that outcome is to prove it by not allowing them to continue thinking that way. If you show them just how loyal you are, and that you cannot be swayed, trust me when I say they will eventually come around."

Chrollo reached over to squeeze Kurapika's shoulder once more, hoping the gesture would boost his confidence and give him the push he needed. For now, all they could do was work together to get through the upcoming mission, and mainly because the opponent they were about to face was the fourth prince of Kakin.

None of them knew a damn thing about the man, or if he was a Nen user and what abilities he had if he was, and considering the nature of their target, it was a job for more than just him and Kurapika.

The murmuring between the spiders had ceased, and this time, it was Shizuku who stepped forward. "I think that all of us have concluded to keep on working with the Chain User as you have requested, Danchou. Since it is a matter that was already agreed on, everyone has decided to continue upholding it. During that time," she paused and unconsciously pushed up her glasses, "we will sit back and let him continue showing us if he is creditable or not."

Shizuku then fell silent and crossed one arm over her chest to grip the elbow of the other. Her eyes met Kurapika's, and he twitched from not only her gaze but from the mention of 'Chain User.' It still miffed him that most of the spiders refused to use his actual name, but he bit his tongue on the matter. Sooner or later, they would have to stop calling him that.

"Harsh, aren't they?" Amar vocalized within his mind, and the realization made him question if any of the spiders could hear the young Nacknar as well. Looking at them hadn't revealed any indication otherwise, but the truth to Amar's words struck Kurapika hard.

Getting past the trials ahead, and not just the one regarding the Scarlet Eyes, but also with the Genei Ryodan, wasn't going to be easy. Nonetheless, Kurapika vowed that he would.

Kurapika gave Amar a knowing look before directing his focus to the imposing spiders. From the corner of his eye, he could see Chrollo watching them intently, but aside from that, his lover didn't immediately say anything.

It wasn't until several minutes had passed that he did.

"Good," Chrollo intoned, his voice firm but calm. "I do expect each of you to follow through with that as we progress forward with our impending heist. And beyond that as well. Considering our target, it's best that we remain as unified as possible. For us to be successful, it's imperative." He gauged their reactions afterward but saw nothing other than curiosity play over each and every one of their faces. It was a good thing, too, because it was, at least, diverting their attention from Kurapika.

The idea of performing another raid had piqued the Spiders' collective interest, as it would allow them to get back to what they did best. Even Nobunaga appeared enthusiastic about it. "So, what exactly are we after this time?" Phinks chimed in, with Feitan nodding in assent from beside him.

A chorus of muffled yeses and mhmm's rose behind them as a result.

I am pleased that you asked," Chrollo responded and reclined slightly against the bench. Kurapika remained somewhat stiff beside him. The thought of it made him feel bad for his lover. "Considering all of our past heists, I believe this will be our biggest one yet. In just a few days, the Kakin royal family will be boarding a ship heading for the Dark Continent. We're going to board it and not only steal the remaining Scarlet Eyes that will be there but also the vast treasures they are bringing along. This, I believe, will benefit us while giving Kurapika the chance to work with everyone while proving himself."

An inevitable silence followed his words as his subordinates seemed to weigh the aspect of the mission critically. There was a visual difference in each of their expressions as it was a mixture between intrigue, skepticism, and enthusiasm. Chrollo clearly saw the discord that sat heavily around all of them, and to a fault, it made him feel a small vein of worry. Asking them to retrieve the last of the Scarlet Eyes was probably bad enough, but for them to also help Kurapika while doing so may have been slightly pushing it.

Still, if they were to see that his lover was genuinely loyal to the Spider as a whole, working together was the only way.

Minutes later, the sound of movement broke the awkward silence, and strangely enough, the newest member, Kalluto, rose from the spot where he had been seated. "Honestly, I don't know much about Kurapika except that he once showed up at my family's estate and is my brother's friend. Even so, I wouldn't mind seeing just how well he works with us." The young Zoldyck's violet eyes scanned over each of his comrade's heads, their attention now on him. Seeing their steeled gazes made him shiver a little.

"Well, I am personally not too keen on helping that blond-haired bastard with recovering those damned eyes of his, but if there is treasure to be had while doing it, then I suppose I am in."

It was shocking to hear Nobunaga's voice, much less for him to say that he was willing to quickly join the operation with minimal protest. Hearing the Samurai's averment shocked even Chrollo as he knew the man was rather bullheaded and had a tendency to challenge his authority. Maybe Nobunaga was relenting, even if it was only minutely.

"I have to admit it surprised me to hear that," Machi added, her frosty eyes locked on him. "But I see no reason for us to not join. It has been a while since we last met up and went on a mission. Snagging a few rare, or unique valuables, especially from a royal family sounds like fun to me." A fiendish smirk crossed her lips almost immediately after.

The remark invoked a sudden bluster of chatter to rise from her cohorts.

"Agreed! I think this will be exciting. Plus, we can create some chaos along the way," Shalnark commented cheerily, his facial features appearing deceptively soft.

More voices of agreement accompanied his own, the majority of the Genei Ryodan now looking enthusiastic about participating in robbing the Kakin family blind.

"Sure," Phinks remarked with a smirk accenting his lips, "why not? I am all for stirring up some shit while getting to kick ass. It's been too long since I've been able to punch anything." Slowly, he began winding his arm, the energy within his aura beginning to noticeably surge.

Instantly, the rest of the Genei Ryodan all seemed conclusive with their decision. Kurapika wasn't sure if including them was still a good idea, and he breathed in sharply. Amar glanced at him quizzically. "I surely hope this doesn't cause any problems for us," Kurapika uttered quietly, though loud enough for only Chrollo to hear.

Naturally, he wasn't able to blame his lover for the way he felt; Kurapika's relationship with the Spiders was still rachitic at best and stabilizing it had been difficult. Again, he had reached over to pat Kurapika on the shoulder before letting his arm slide around the younger man. He then gently tugged Kurapika against his side.

"I understand your concerns, babe, but trust me when I say that we are going to need them. As for ensuring that nothing adverse comes from it, I cannot promise anything considering the nature of our mission. However, if it makes you feel any better, so long as we walk away with the eyes, whatever else happens should be inconsequential." Without giving Kurapika the chance to respond, he leaned down and kissed the top of his lover's golden mop.

Regardless if there were others present - that being the rest of the Spiders - it wasn't going to stop him from showing the man beside him at least a shred of compassion. Kurapika meant the world to him.

The sweet gesture had earned a quick huff from Kurapika, but all he did was expel another breath. "As much as I hate to admit it, you're right." Almost immediately, he regretted saying it as that insufferable grin crossed over Chrollo's lips, but in the next moment, Kurapika gave in. Sometimes, he just had to acknowledge when the older man wasn't wrong.

Despite the few strange or appalled looks the rest of the Ryodan gave their brief display of affection, Chrollo took a moment to breathe in Kurapika's wonderful scent before giving his crown one last kiss, then straightened. From the corner of his eye, he could see Amar watching them curiously.

"Well then, in a matter of days, we will be sneaking aboard the Black Whale, and from there, our search will begin. At that point, you're free to do what you want while tracking down where the Kakin royal family are keeping their treasures hidden. Kurapika and I will focus on locating the Scarlet Eyes."

For a split second, there was an abrupt, uncomfortable silence, but the mood passed in the next moment, and the chorus of concessions that followed helped to ease Chrollo's worries. Judging from the look on Kurapika's face, it was the same for his lover.

After clearing his mind from dealing with such a tense experience, Chrollo turned to face the younger man at his side once more. "Has there been any news from your friends, love? Are they still coming to meet with us?" It didn't take him long to realize that Kurapika had been fiddling with his phone as it slid awkwardly between those lithe fingers.

Kurapika didn't answer him right away; it had been bothering him why his friends hadn't arrived yet, but even then, he still dealt with the conflict of potentially involving them in anything dangerous. Gon and Killua were quite young - younger than he liked to admit - and weren't responsible for his problems. Instead of getting mixed up with his dilemmas, they should be focused on just having fun. In a perfect, ideal world, that may have been the end result, but in truth, Kurapika knew it wasn't entirely possible.

His friends were quite capable - Leorio included - and wouldn't ever consider sitting back while doing nothing. Just like he did, they, too, always seemed to throw themselves head-first into trouble. Having them along on this mission, even if it was against his better judgment, would be a welcomed aspect.

With a sigh, Kurapika stilled his impatient hands. "The last message I received from them said they were only a few miles away. I assume that it means they should be here real soon."

Right as the last words exited his mouth, the sound of his name getting shouted across the wind had jolted Kurapika straight, and it made him look upward. In the distance, he saw a stout figure with familiar hair along with two others begin to approach them. Moments later, Gon's bright, jovial face came into view, followed by Killua and Leorio.

Instantly the Spiders parted down the middle to let them pass through while watching the event with keen interest. Some of them gave the kids criticizing looks, while others were simply intrigued. Nobunaga, on the other hand, appeared delighted to see them. He gave both boys an eager grin as they passed by. Gon slightly acknowledged them but gave the Samurai a polite nod. Killua decided to put on an almost apathetic front, though he frowned briefly when his eyes found and met with Kalluto's. It seemed that his brother was still hanging with the Genei Ryodan.

Kurapika quickly rose from the bench as his three friends came over to where he was positioned.

"Gon! It's good to see you!" Kurapika exclaimed as the young boy wasted no time tugging him into an embrace. He hugged Gon tightly before glancing over at his other two friends. "Killua! Leorio! It has been a long time. How have you two been?" Kurapka commented after letting go of Gon. The amber-eyed boy grinned enthusiastically.

"Eh, we've been okay. Nothing too exciting has happened. Gon has been training despite the old man here telling him to take a break sometimes." Killua paused while jabbing a thumb behind him at Leorio. "Aside from that, we've been continuing our search to find Gon's dad." He added despite Leorio's loud protests.

Hearing the young Zoldyck's comment made Kurapika smile, and he was unable to stifle the soft laugh that slipped past his lips. Getting to see his friends again and be privy to their antics was definitely a welcomed sight.

"What about you?" Gon chimed in. "How has the search been with finding your people's eyes?"

The question made Kurapika fall silent for a moment, but a faint, almost sad-like expression wormed its way over his features. "I have recovered them all but the last ten pairs." He replied, his blue eyes locked on Gon. "But the person we have learned that has them is the reason all of you are here. Chrollo and I are going to need help with this one."

Right away, the light-hearted emotion that Gon had turned hastily into a more serious one. Even the amused grin that Killua had also faded into a slight frown. Leorio, on the other hand, looked critical from the start. It was rare when that man smiled.

"I want to say that's good," Killua spoke up after a rather long pause, "as it's quite the achievement for you Kurapika. Though your tone of voice when mentioning whoever it is with the remaining pairs has me wondering."

Before Kurapika could respond, Chrollo shuffled from behind him and came to stand at his side. "The person we have to face is Kakin's fourth prince, Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou."

An abrupt silence descended around them, each of them looking almost stunned by shock. Although the Spiders had already learned precisely who their target was, Gon, Killua, and Leorio, on the other hand, seemed entirely dumbfounded by the very notion. If it wasn't for the fact that Leorio's eyes were behind his darkened glasses, Kurapika would have sworn they nearly fell out of their sockets.

"WHAT?!" He exclaimed almost loud enough to deafen everyone in the area. "The fourth prince of Kakin? You have got to be joking!"

"I wish it were," Kurapika responded in an unusually calm tone. For a second, his eyes closed. "I had been told by someone personally that Tserriednich is the one who has the remaining Scarlet Eyes. Plus, the source of my information I know is reliable." Afterward, Kurapika opened them again, and this time, his gaze landed directly on Leorio. There was no denying that he knew who the informant was, and only Gon and Killua would be the ones to question the person's identity.

Which turned to be true when Killua motioned forward. "Not that I am questioning your judgement, Kurapika, but are you entirely certain it is this fourth prince that has the Scarlet Eyes? Were you given actual proof of this?"

There was merit to Killua's words, and Kurapika understood wholeheartedly why he was skeptical. Killua tended to be more critical and probing while analyzing the situation thoroughly before making any kind of move. Unlike Gon or Leorio, Killua was more tactical and often formulated a plan to ensure the most success with the least amount of consequences. It wasn't to say that every decision made was the best or had the greatest care involved, but the number of times that Killua was mindful of the circumstances he faced was more often than not.

At the very least, his friend wasn't as prone to falling head-first into danger - and recklessly - like he was. Killua had a good sense of when to act and when to withdraw.

Kurapika shot a quick glance over at Chrollo, who simply nodded. He could feel the weight of Killua's eyes on him, along with his other friends and everyone else around him, including the Spiders. It was odd how quiet they had been, especially that loud-mouthed Samurai, but he wasn't complaining about the temporary reprieve. Working out the details regarding Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou and the Scarlet Eyes wouldn't be the most grueling part. Informing them about Amar, who sat utterly apoplectic slightly beside him, would be the most challenging aspect.

Fortunately, up to this point, everyone's attention had been directed toward him and Chrollo.

Kurapika's pale lips parted before speaking. "Yes I am," he began, a blanket of serenity encompassing him, "as the person who presented me with this information was Mizaistom Nana." There was a sudden burst of whispers and fervent speaking as not only did the Spiders begin chattering amongst themselves, but Killua exchanged looks with Gon before murmuring the name to him. Leorio was the only one who held no reaction. "However, there was a stipulation regarding it. Apparently, the Hunter's Association needs our help again, but this time, with Kakin's Succession war."

Another wave of whispers and hushed conversation wavered through the area as knowledge of what he was proposing started to really sink in. Even his friends appeared startled by the revelation, and Leorio had to keep a straight face as to not give away that he had been privy to the notion of it all along. In truth, Kurapika was amazed that certain people in their little menagerie didn't toss a fit outright.

"What exactly does the Hunter's Association want us to do? Play babysitter to a bunch of spoiled princes and princesses?" Kurapika watched as the man lacking eyebrows had stepped forward, a sour expression on his face. Both arms were crossed over his chest.

"From my understanding, they want us to help ensure the Succession War proceeds unhindered," Chrollo interjected, his words smooth and refined. "Of course, that won't be our only reason for boarding the ship. Finding the Scarlet Eyes is another. We also plan to grab a few… Valuables for ourselves as well." He added and gestured towards the small group of people standing behind Kurapika's friends.

Instantly, Leorio's face turned a slight shade of red, and his dark eyes almost looked as if they had turned abyssal and cold. The sheer mention of Chrollo desiring to commit theft, especially against a bunch of royals, didn't sit too well with him, and thinking about it was nauseating enough. He already disliked the man, primarily because of his involvement with Kurapika, though it had already become quite clear that Chrollo Lucifer had no intention of letting him go.

Even thinking about it and how that insufferable man practically stated he would be nothing more than a 'friend' to Kurapika pissed him off beyond all recognition. It was upsetting enough that he got shot down, and so viciously, but for the one person he cared so deeply about to be involved with the man responsible for the murder of his clan made it nearly intolerable.

Yet, Leorio held his tongue, for he knew that not only would Lucifer admonish him right there in front of everyone, including Killua and Gon, he was sure Kurapika would also lay into him for acting insolent. One thing that Kurapika had long since stated was that he had no plans on ever leaving Chrollo.

And despite it all, he blatantly refused to accept they were together. Leorio never gave up any respect for Kurapika as a whole, but his relationship with the leader of the Genei Ryodan was just something that he found absolutely ludicrous.

"Why am I not surprised by that? Damned bastard can't keep himself from wanting to steal everything that isn't nailed down," Leorio managed to mutter beneath his breath and then clamped his jaw shut once he realized the words had exited his mouth.

The look that Kurapika shot him was nothing short of incredulous with a slight undertone of exasperation. Chrollo patted the young blond man on the shoulder immediately after, and Leorio wasted no time looking sullen as a result.

"Who the fuck are you to insult Danchou like that?" Leorio hadn't expected anyone else to have heard what he said, and the tall man whirled around on his heel to come face to face with an eyebrowless man. There was hostility behind those dark black eyes and venom lacing his words.

"Yeah." Another male voice rang out, and the person without eyebrows was joined by a stout man in black. "The nerve. Insult Dancou like that."

Leorio wasted not a second to put his hands up in defense and backed away as both men advanced on him. The dramatic scene had drawn the attention of the others, and seconds later, Gon had come between Leorio and the two spiders threatening to attack him. "Calm down. All of you. Please." He implored, both arms outstretched towards the three men, palms up and visible.

Abruptly, Phinks stopped winding his arm in preparation, and Feitan stilled his fingers as they had come to rest on the base of the umbrella that he carried. If the situation continued to get any worse, he was ready to unsheath the blade that rested within. "And why should we?" Phinks balked. "That fucking little shit is no less rude than your chain using friend. Just hearing his mouth pisses me off."

Humility quickly marked Gon's features before he slowly lowered his arms. It wasn't hard to tell that Phinks and Feitan meant business and were intolerable to Leorio's abrasiveness, but he had to defuse the situation before it got out of hand. Kurapika had made a motion to intervene and was stopped by Chrollo's outstretched arm.

"I ask you to please excuse Leorio's disrespect. He is just not used to this… situation between all of us. Honestly, I don't think any of us are, but we have to work together and somehow learn to get along. Kurapika and your leader are together and from what I've seen, nothing is going to change that."

Phinks tsked at the very idea of the Chain User being shacked up with Chrollo or of both groups working together, but the fact that Gon had been so bold and determined to stop them from advancing made Phinks pause. Feitan also did the same. Both men exchanged looks, and then Phinks let himself become slightly less tense.

"You sure do love taking risks, huh?" He asked, looking directly at Gon. There was intense energy radiating off the young boy, his eyes hardened by fierce tenacity, which had Phinks admire him even more. Gon acted no different from how he did back in Yorknew over six months ago. It seemed that time didn't change his convictions.

Gon's expression never seemed to waver, and he only forced himself to stand even more erect, his back almost perfectly straight. To finally end the constant bickering, hostility, and enmity between them was a goal Gon refused to let go of. Kurapika had already decided to be with Chrollo and join the one group of people he used to hate, so if they were to all get along, the hate had to end here. Even if it didn't cease entirely, what he wanted to do now was a start.

For several long, agonizing moments, he just stared long and hard into Phinks's eyes, the tall, muscular man not budging a single inch.

"That's enough from the both of you." A voice disrupted the uneasy standoff, and Machi moved to the front of the pack, her purple-hued eyes staring at them in agitation. "The kid is right. None of us are used to working together, but for now, I say that it's best to cast any personal feelings aside. Danchou has called us here to ask for our help, and regardless of circumstance, if there is something we can benefit from all of this, I say why not?" She crossed her arms to add emphasis to her statement, the expression on her face still firm.

Usually, most of the Spider's members trusted Machi, especially Phinks, as her gut instinct was rarely ever wrong. The current situation wasn't any different. "I suppose." He grumbled quietly. Feitan said nothing as he watched them. "But still. That fucker doesn't need to be talking trash as he did before," Phinks added while eyeing Leorio indignantly.

The comment almost made Leorio round on his heel towards the browless man, a look of pure choler twisting his narrow face. "Why you!" He began, voice raised, and Gon immediately stepped between him and Phinks once more, this time, his attention focused on Leorio while directing a stern expression towards his doctor friend.

It seemed that his harsh demeanor had stopped Leorio dead in his tracks, the man going purely straight before crossing his arms and turning away. He then used one hand to push up his glasses with a sour grumble.

Phinks snickered beneath his breath, but Machi shot him a quick glance, and he fell silent after that. Feitan watched the entire scene unfold with mild amusement. Kurapika had no idea exactly what just happened, but the whole ordeal seemed to give him a headache. Briefly, the young man closed his eyes, and the next thing he felt was Chrollo's fingers stroking consolingly along his back.

"I'll be fine." He whispered so that only his lover would hear. Kurapika rubbed slowly at his agonizing temples. "Despite this… mess, I am sure that we will manage to figure something out."

A faint but pleased smile crossed over Chrollo's lips, and he let his hand trail down to the small of Kurapika's back while rubbing over the area in small circles. "Of course." He responded softly. "Their reaction is expected, but they have managed to work together once already and will do so again. It will take time for the tension to evaporate from between them."

"If it ever does," Kurapika interjected, and Chrollo fell silent to let his beautiful lover speak. "Considering how resentful the rest of the Spiders are, I doubt that will happen entirely." He then turned to survey both his friends and future comrades, and the friction he saw surrounding them was glaringly obvious. But it wasn't even that; Kurapika knew some of the Spiders were bitter towards him because of what happened to their own friend.

Then again, it wasn't entirely unjustified. Kurapika had only done to them what they had done to him, and yet, that didn't make the outcome any better. Even now, it still brought him no solace, which Kurapika realized had merely been a farce towards finding peace. As he had learned, the only way to do that was to find and retrieve his clans' eyes.

Looking back on it, the very idea had been stupid and useless. Then again, amid tragedy, Kurapika found the one person who was able to bring him back from the brink of destruction after learning that he lost his way. He and Chrollo had come so far together, and it made the ties between them so much stronger.

It was why he loved the man as much as he did.

"I am sure that it will, eventually," Chrollo said after a few moments, and his fingers slowly trekked up towards the back of the younger man's neck. Kurapika shivered slightly from the touch, and it made him want to keep it feather-light. Soothing his Kurta lover was always a top priority.

The sensation invoked a long, drawn-out breath, and Kurapika relaxed a little. "Maybe." He stated. "Pertaining that you are right."

Chrollo smirked and drew his fingers gently beneath Kurapika's hairline. "Just have a little faith in me."

Hearing that made him snort. "Sometimes it's hard to, but I will try nonetheless," Kurapika couldn't stop the slight grin that formed over his lips soon after. Sometimes, it was hard not to tease his lover.

"Good," Chrollo followed, sounding pleased, "because you would be lying otherwise." He quickly noticed the mischievous look that Kurapika had. The younger man was definitely amused.

"Why do I find that to be utter bullshit?" Kurapika retorted, his voice shaky from the pleasant sensation of those fingertips caressing over his tender skin. There was no denying that he was always entrenched by the way his lover touched him.

Chrollo merely chuckled, and made one last sweep down Kurapika's spine, then stopped reluctantly. There was still the matter of quelling the apprehension between Kurapika and his friends, the spiders, and himself. Plus, they had yet to mention Amar, who, shockingly enough, continued to go unnoticed. The notion made Chrollo sigh. It was necessary to get the situation under control and have all parties make some form of agreement, no matter how reluctant they were. Sitting around and wasting time only delayed their mission further, and it was important they found their way onto that ship before it departed by sneaking in or otherwise. Bickering as they were only hindered matters further.

Not that he hadn't already grown tired of it as is.

Moments later, Chrollo concentrated on the two groups before him. Immediately, all eyes turned in his direction. "That said," he finally announced, this time his voice was more stoic, "we need to focus on working together. You have all done it once, and can do it again. This mission is going to require some cooperation if we are to succeed and come out rewarded."

A rush of hushed conversation echoed around the spiders, even between Gon, Killua, and Leorio. After several minutes, the chattering was silenced, and a rather large figure stepped forward. Franklin was big enough to tower over everyone.

"After talking it over, we all have agreed on what you told us last time, and have decided to try working with the Chain User and his friends again. They were helpful in the fight against those beasts and it should be no different now."

Franklin's voice practically boomed over the entire area, which commanded utter silence, though Chrollo was grateful for the man's continued support. Regardless of how his actions were perceived, nothing he did was solely for his sake and only for the Spider. Despite their decision to continue following him, if at any point they no longer saw him as their leader, he was ready to step down. Initially, Chrollo didn't want the role when he founded the Genei Ryodan, but the members present back then had nominated him anyway.

Suddenly, Kurapika's words about giving up the position reiterated in his mind. While he didn't want to create any friction with his comrades over their relationship, he wasn't about to force the other spiders into keeping him around. Either they learned to eventually accept Kurapika or at least tolerate him. If not, then he was prepared to walk away.

He knew that Kurapika would chide him for thinking in such a way, but it was nothing short of the truth.

Nevertheless, Chrollo just nodded his approval, then shot a quick glance towards Amar before letting his attention fall back on the crowd in front of him. "I will accept that." He responded evenly, then proceeded to change the subject. "However, there is something else that I should address."

Chrollo swiftly gestured toward Amar, who turned to face him, and after seeing his expression, moved to the forefront. Right away, there was a fervent rise of conversation, as both surprise and shock practically captivated everyone as a whole. He could hear a few muttered curses, even the sound of contemplation on how to deal with the 'creature' standing before them. The scrutiny caused Amar to shift uncomfortably, and a few times, the young Nacknar looked back at him.

"What the hell?" Someone vocalized, and Chrollo sighed inwardly again. Not only was it hard to deal with the collective tension as is, but revealing another surprise factor and from a previous encounter only added to the current quandary.

One hand came up in front of him. "Before any of you start questioning what is going on, I would like to introduce you to Amar. He has been traveling with Kurapika and I for some time, and helping us with the search for the Scarlet Eyes. That said, he has also agreed to aid in the mission regarding the Black Whale and the Kakin royal family."

Right after Chrollo had ceased speaking, a clamor of statements ranging from questions to pure outrage tore through the air. He could hear Kurapika muttering in frustration beside him. It was as if everyone around them had descended into pure madness.

The disparity went on for longer than he realized. Then, after both groups had managed to compile their arguments, Chrollo was partially shocked by the one person who disrupted the ongoing pandemonium. His lanky figure had commanded total silence, and steely eyes met with his own.

"Is that one of those fucking creatures we killed near some ruined city a while back?" Nobunaga questioned cooly, his expression now impious. For a second time, the man's fingers danced eagerly along the blade of his Katana. It wasn't hard to perceive the lack of patience that he had.

His inquiry had instantly sparked more looks of skepticism, some harboring expressions of blatant disbelief. Gon seemed curious, while Killua appeared perusal. Leorio was absolutely startled, and even the Spiders harbored mixed feelings on the notion. Kurapika's lips twisted into a scowl; he knew just as well as Chrollo that both his friends and the Genei Ryodan weren't going to take the news any better than the prospect of them working together. It was something that he and Chrollo had prepared for from the moment Amar was allowed to join them, but it didn't make it any easier to deal with the reactions it garnered from both parties. As the murmuring of contention went on, Kurapika looked about as annoyed as Chrollo probably felt. Then again, his lover wasn't always quick to show any emotion, if he did at all.

Yet when he did, it was primarily when they were alone, usually during moments of tenderness or when Chrollo revealed his possessive side. Otherwise, he generally appeared composed.

Chrollo leaned forward, the air around him becoming serene again. "Yes, he is. However," he then folded his hands together and looked sharply into Nobunaga's eyes, "before you continue further on your tangent, Amar has proven himself several times over the last few months. He has also assured us that he wants nothing to do with the rest of his kind, and provided valuable information on them that could prove useful in the future." Chrollo gave the others time to process the words that he spoke before deciding to continue. "As with Kurapika, he has also shown the determination to prove his worth. Because of that, he will not be harmed or turned away."

More waves of hushed conversation wavered through the Spiders while Gon and Killua exchanged glances. Leorio leaned in towards the boys seconds later. "I'm not so sure about this." He stated, but only loud enough so his two friends could hear.

Thinking about it, Killua had to agree. After their encounter with the creatures back in Mirie, he was somewhat skeptical. "Are you sure that we can trust him?" The boy asked firmly.

It was a question that Kurapika had expected if he had to be honest. More than likely, Chrollo had anticipated the same thing, but the fact that his friends would ask it, along with the Spiders, wasn't entirely surprising. "Yes." He responded, voice resolute. "Amar has not given Chrollo, or myself any reason to distrust him. Several times he has helped us during our missions to retrieve the eyes. Most notably was during our excursion against the Hades Ring syndicate." Kurapika paused and held his posture firm while surveying those before him.

"That is correct," Chrollo added without waiting for him to continue. "Amar had stopped their leader before the man found a way to get one over on us. Reynar had proven to be a skilled Nen user, which, as you know, doesn't work against Amar's kind. There were also several times where he had the chance to betray us, and has not."

Such an answer had earned them a few coughs, grunts, and noises of uncertainty. Still, Chrollo was aware that his group would have practically no choice but to find out for themselves about the weight of Amar's loyalty, and he was sure it would be the same for Kurapika's friends. He turned to gander at his lover, who retained a slight frown.

Considering the varying personalities, as there was some volatile behavior among his subordinates, finding a happy medium wouldn't be easy. There were times when it wasn't strictly plausible to make them cooperate, but nevertheless, they made it work anyway. And while some may not have entirely viewed each other as friends, one aspect they had in common was maintaining the Spider's integrity.

Which meant more to them than anything, even if some of them had personal feelings towards each other.

"I don't see how this is any different than dealing with the Chain User," Phinks chimed in, and a few of the Spiders nodded in assent.

"What makes you say that?" Gon commented right afterward. He rounded on the Spiders, but his attention was solely on Phinks. "Haven't all of you chosen to accept Kurapika despite the differences? If your leader trusts both of them, why don't you?"

"Gon is right, you know?" Killua contributed and shoved his hands down into the pockets of his shorts. "If Kurapika hadn't accepted you guys, then maybe we wouldn't have either. Honestly, it was against my better judgement in the beginning, but it's true that Chrollo is his boyfriend now, so we have already decided to try and get along. We may not like it, but we're willing to work together." For a moment, Killua just stood there glaring at them in annoyance.

The young Zoldyck's statement earned a deepened frown from Phinks, but it was hard to argue the point. While most of them didn't like Kurapika, they had collectively agreed to let him join their ranks. Whether or not he proved to be trustworthy was an entirely separate matter. However, the situation was relatively the same as the one that was now getting presented.

Although it wasn't ideal, maybe the situation would turn out better than expected. Or at least, Phinks hoped it would be. He analyzed everyone else's reactions but only saw mixtures of contemplation and hesitation.

It wasn't until Machi spoke up again that his rumination was interrupted. "Although it may be hard to say this, I agree with them. Didn't we already decide to trust Danchou's instincts? Whatever his decisions are, we should follow them without question." Her hands went to her hips for added emphasis.

"Same," Shalnark said in support of her remark. "Back when Kurapika was first presented to us, we had all come to the same conclusion, and agreed to believe in Danchou's judgement. I don't see how any of that has changed now." He stopped a moment and shot a glance towards Kurapika before letting his eyes drift over Amar. "Of course it's going to be strange working with one of those creatures, but hey it may turn out interesting in the end."

When Phinks, Feitan, and Nobunaga gave him sideways looks, Shalnark just shrugged. The other Spiders merely watched him with intrigue, most chewing on the idea. Though Shalnark had to admit that he was beginning to like Kurapika a little.

Maybe he didn't fully trust their former adversary - yet - but the idea of getting to work side by side with Kurapika fascinated him. Perhaps it was the same for a few others, but at least for him, it was.

"I personally think it would be interesting to see how this situation plays out," Shizuku stepped forward and pushed up her glasses. Her large brown eyes shone with anticipation despite that she tended to be somewhat absentminded.

There was another brief round of conversation, though it was apparent that most of the Spiders were coming around. Knowing that helped to ease Chrollo's slight discomfort. He could see Kurapika out of his peripheral vision and figured that his lover was also feeling the same way. Gently, he expanded his aura to encompass the younger man hoping that it would continue to add comfort. Though if need be, Kurapika could turn to the Heart Stone for a more profound effect. It was one reason why he gave it to Kurapika in the first place.

Perhaps they were finally getting somewhere.

Amar had gone silent and unmoving the entire time while listening to their opinions and concerns. It was something that he anticipated as they were the very same humans who fought against the full brunt of his platoon. The reactions made him feel somewhat discontented, but as he had with Chrollo and Kurapika, gaining their trust was just another facet to showing that he was worthy.

Since they were friends of his newfound companions, he wanted them to see him the same way. Eventually, Amar rose to his haunches and stood before the crowd. "I know that none of you have any reason to believe in my sincerity, or that I harbor no ill intentions. However, I will prove my allegiance and worth to you as I have with my companions. They have given me the benefit of the doubt, and I will not waste that opportunity here, either."

Once he finished, no one said anything as his words began to slowly sink in. Amar figured that hearing his voice inside their heads would be startling, as it must have been when they listened to his kind speak for the first time. Despite that, he kept his composure and stood tall, even if it was hard to keep his ears from wilting a little.

As the awkward silence dragged on, it became increasingly harder to stay that way, but the ataractic energy that Chrollo and Kurapika exuded helped aid in retaining his stature.

Not long after, the tall, skinny man with glasses broke the lingering impermanence. "I don't know if I really like this," he responded, though quite firmly, "especially since we know almost nothing about those beasts. I have no idea what… he-" Leorio nearly bit hard on the pronoun. To think those creatures addressed themselves as anything civilized. "- or it said to convince you otherwise, but how do we know that… it won't betray us?"

Hearing the man refer to him as "it" caused Amar's heart to practically sink into the pit of his stomach. Even though he wasn't human, hearing such derogatory connotations made it difficult since he wasn't anything like his kind. The weight of it alone hit quite hard.

"If I had ulterior motives," Amar responded, his eyes never breaking contact with Leorio's, "don't you think I would have enacted on them by now? Why would I put myself in such a risky situation when I had plenty of opportunities to strike?" The man scoffed at what he said, but Amar only continued as if he hadn't spoken. "I could have turned my back on Kurapika and Chrollo at any time. I could have easily attacked them when they least expected it, or when their guard was down. However, I did not. I understand it may not be enough, but I am ready to prove that I am friend, not foe."

Again, Leorio scoffed and clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth. The memory of his encounter with the creatures like the one who stood them remained fresh in his mind. It wasn't that his own life had been put into danger at the time, but Killua and Gon as well. He recalled the instances where those creatures nearly killed the three of them. Luckily, Kurapika had prevented that.

His suspicion, while respectfully deserved, caused the others behind him to resume chattering.

"Do you really mean it when saying that you want to help us?" Gon suddenly asked, and Amar perked up upon hearing the boy's voice. The genuine curiosity and lack of bias that came from him made Amar feel a bit more hopeful.

"Yes." Amar bowed his head slightly to show his commitment to the boy with the honest-looking amber eyes. "I have renounced my kind long ago, and want nothing more than to prove my sincerity and atone for what they have done."

A smile formed on Gon's face at the answer, and the spiky-haired boy immediately pounded his fist into the palm of his other hand. "That settles it then!" He exclaimed. Killua and Leorio instantly turned to face him. The spiders looked at him curiously. "We should let Amar join us. Besides, how can we learn to trust him if we don't give him a chance?" Gon then went to stand beside the ebony creature, a grin now splitting his features.

"You can't be serious?!" Leorio spluttered, his eyes bulging behind his glasses.

"I am." Gon planted his hands on his hips.

"You know how it is when Gon makes up his mind, old man," Killua confirmed, making Leorio grumble from the realization of how right he was.

Kurapika laughed at watching their spectacle, but it was short-lived and ceased the second Nobunaga interrupted them. "Well, if those boys don't have any problem with it, then I suppose I won't either."

It was shocking to hear such a declaration. Nearly all the Spiders, including Phinks, didn't think he would be that willing.

"Oi, Nobu! Are you sure?" Phinks inquired, still amazed by his comrade's response.

Without hesitation, Nobunaga turned to face Phinks. He was unusually calm, considering the circumstances. "Not entirely, but I trust those boys more than I do the Chain User. If they feel that it'd be worth it to see just how far we can trust this creature, then I say why not?"

The answer made Phinks tsk while Feitan raised an eyebrow at him, but Nobunaga just kept his posture rigid. Though he wasn't fully on board with the idea, both boys had good heads on their shoulders. It didn't stop him from wanting to see how the situation panned out.

"Alright," Shalnark chirped, "I think the rest of us are in agreement then."

"Fantastic," Chrollo stated while observing everyone. "It has been decided. "That said, we need to begin making preparations to sneak aboard the Black Whale. The ship is set to depart in a few days." He paused long enough to gauge their reactions before continuing. "Until then, you are free to do as you wish. We will reconvene the day before to discuss our plans."

Chrollo stood up, and he immediately went to take hold of Kurapika's shoulder. The younger man wasted no time rising and going to his side. He then watched as his subordinates left one by one. Once all of them were out of sight, he and Kurapika faced the two boys and their loud-mouthed friend. It wasn't easy dealing with Leorio as he felt the man still had an infatuation with Kurapika, but Chrollo tolerated him anyway. He kept his grip steady on his lover's shoulder.

"What about us?" Gon wondered, uncertainty marking his visage. "What should we do for now?"

Blue eyes locked with his innocent amber ones. "Nothing aside from waiting. I will call you when it's time." Kurapika went silent for a second, then smiled again. "Though, how about all of us go and get something to eat. We can do some catching up, and you can spend some time with Chrollo as well."

The suggestion brought a grin to Chrollo's lips. "I think that's a spectacular idea." He stated approvingly.

Such a proposal caused Leorio to frown, but Gon and Killua practically lit up with pure excitement. Both boys were nothing but glad to be spending time with their friends. It had been so long since the four of them had been around each other. Only this time, Chrollo was with them.

Not that it mattered. Kurapika was in a relationship with him, after all.

Yeah!" Gon intoned, his demeanor becoming more jovial by the second.

Killua shoved both hands into his pockets again and smiled. He was glad to see Gon so ecstatic, but it also was great to be around Kurapika again. "It's definitely going to be fun for a change." He mentioned gratefully.

"Well then, shall we go find a place to get a meal at?" Chrollo responded, and both boys quickly nodded. Only Leorio stood there looking indifferent. The man gave a curt nod a few moments later.

"Alright," Kurapika said as he began to follow Chrollo, who then took the lead and started moving out of the park. After all that happened, it would be great to take a break from the chaos to have a warm meal and hang out with his friends. He silently took Chrollo's hand as he fell in step beside his lover while Gon and Killua happily chatted with Amar behind them. Kurapika was sure that Leorio was glaring at them for the affection he and Chrollo shared, but he just ignored it. Sooner or later, his friend would have to accept that and move on.

At least for now, he got to enjoy the temporary reprieve before the oncoming storm.

After Thoughts: This chapter marks the beginning of the last arc in the Scarlet Eyes saga for RoF. It's set to span several chapters and will not completely adhere to the Dark Continent storyline in the manga. Since it is incomplete, how this ends will be entirely my take on it. Some elements and events will remain the same, but how it plays out won't be the same way as in the manga. So please bear that in mind.

From here, I have many surprises planned for RoF after the completion of this arc. Although only twenty to twenty-two chapters remain, we have yet to reach the end of Chrollo and Kurapika's love story, so there is still much to look forward to. I hope everyone is excited about what awaits. :)

And lastly, I want to thank all my readers, both new and old, for their continued support and for sticking with me despite all the hurdles. Without you guys, I don't think I'd have found the motivation to continue this. :3
