A.N. first of all I am so sorry for my long absence but my life chose to keep me away from the computer for a while. Also, I really hate referring to Harry as 'boy' as I feel like it is something only Dumbledore does and in case you haven't noticed, I don't like him that much.
Chapter 4
Harry set on the very comfortable sofa in Starks's living room trying not to fall asleep while Bucky attempted to appear harmless sitting next to him. He failed miserably. Having the security alarms go off as he entered the building didn't really help his case, especially as everyone was informed of what his bag held. It took Steve, Thor, and Harry, physically blocking the path to the assassin, for the security and the rest of the avengers to not attack Bucky. Harry noticed that while Steve managed to stop the guards, it was only his stance holding onto the assassin's hand and edging forward that halted the avengers.
'I guess Bucky was right about using me as a shield' Harry couldn't stop a small giggle from escaping his lips causing Bucky to stare at him in confusion. Harry just shook his head and returned to staring at the huge TV in front of him. The news was covering the attack without mentioning anything about either of them, which was odd considering they were brought to the tower escorted by Thor and the Captain who insisted on assisting the injured Bucky. Harry once again giggled as he imagined Bucky being carried bridle style by the Captain.
"Ok, that's it, what so funny?" Bucky asked a little annoyed
"Just remember how Steve carried you" Harry answered causing the assassin to slightly blush
"It was just for a moment. Damn brat wouldn't listen" he mumbled. He really did have the Captain to put him down the moment he realized Steve was going to actually carry him like that but Harry refused to acknowledge any other image.
Steve quickly got out of his shock of seeing Bucky and went on assessing the situation. Once deeming that the man was not going to escape he glanced at his injured hand and proceeded with grabbing the man and holding him up for 'support' as he claimed. Bull. Shit. The man just wanted to make sure the assassin could not escape. He was surprised when Thor mentioned the boy, referring to him as Bucky's brother. He was about to correct the god when the teen shook his head and sent him a silencing glance and for some reason Steve went along with the lie.
"Tony I am bringing in two extra people" he spoke, still feeling odd for seemingly speaking to nothing
"Wanna explain?" Tony asked through the coms as the two avengers already started advancing towards the tower
"We have two injured civilians that require treatment" he responded. He saw Thor out of the corner of his eye talking to the kid with a smile
"And you don't call for an ambulance because?" sounded a curious Hawkeye
"It's Bucky" he said. The others were silent as he added "and his brother"
"Harry" Steve jumped slightly as the voice spoke through the coms. He turned around to look at the kid speaking into Thor's ear. The boy was then proceeded to be smacked on the head by Bucky
"Don't do that again kid" he reprimanded the boy who just shrugged
"I don't like being spoken to as if I am not there so at least now they know my name" was all he said before handing his bag to the Norse god who took it without complain
"Do you want to tell us how Barnes suddenly got a brother?" asked Sam "I thought he was an only child and over 70 years old. The voice sounded too young"
"I…I don't know" Steve admitted looking over at Bucky who refused to answer the unspoken question
"A car is heading your way" Stark said and the group descended into silence, well Steve and Bucky did. Thor and Harry were hitting it off by talking about how fascinating New York City was and how different and strange things were. Steve found it weird that the teen could relate to these feelings, sure, Thor was new to earth but a human boy? Why would he find cars fascinating?
"I do love pop tarts" Thor said. The god knew of Bucky's past as the captain 'shield brother' so to him the two siblings must be treated as friends. The boy also reminded him of his brother in his younger years, before Loki and he drifted apart. He couldn't shake the feeling that other than looking a lot like young Loki, the child gave off the same aura as his brother and mother 'must be magic' the god thought
"Never had them before" Harry said and Thor looked shocked
"Well you must! They are surprisingly good for Midgardian food! I shall make you one once we reach Stark's home" Thor said
"Bucky promised to have pizza first, he says it is 'to die for'" Harry looked at the silent assassin. It was funny to think they only knew each other for a day and he truly felt protective of the assassin. Bucky looked positively uncomfortable being supported by Steve as they walked. He occasionally looked back to make sure Harry was close and it warmed his heart to know that even when he reunited with Steve he was still worried for him
A black car soon stopped next to them and all four found themselves cramped in car. Thor set next to the driver as he was the biggest but to his surprise Harry sat between Steve and Bucky. He saw the captain about to protest but the teen immediately turned to Bucky in concern
"You shouldn't have done that" he said as he inspected his injured hand "I would have been fine and now you are hurt! What if you need to fight? Huh? How will you do that injured?" he spoke while tearing a piece of his shirt and expertly cleaning the blood off his hand
"Stop it" Bucky said trying to move the teen but he refused to do so, stubbornly insisting on treating his brother. It made Thor smile remembering all the times he got injured and Loki's very similar response "Of course I had to cover you, I am more durable"
"I've been through worse and you know it" Harry spoke causing both avengers to frown while the driver pretended not to listen
"Doesn't mean I'm going to let it continue" Bucky responded before looking around sending them an angry look as if telling them he never hurt the teen, and Thor believed him. Bucky looked back at Harry who refused to look at him while cleaning his hand "I promised you kid, I will make sure you are safe"
Both Steve and Thor noticed how the teen tensed for a moment before looking up at Bucky "Thank you" was all he said and it was enough for the assassin as he smiled softly and ruffled his hair.
Thor and Steve smiled at the show of affection and kept their silence as the car neared Stark tower.
Thor was going to protect the boy as well, he failed Loki and maybe Harry was his was of atoning.
Steve realized he just got a kid brother, because he would be dammed if anything would happen to either Bucky or Harry. He was sure that they were more broken then he could see and he was adamant to help pick up the pieces and help fixing them. What could he say? He had a hero complex after all
Protecting Harry and Bucky was going to be a full time job Steve realized as the security alarm blazed and they were swarmed by security and the rest of the avengers
"Stand down!" He called as Thor raised his hammer "all is fine"
"Fine? If it was your friend won't be carried obscene amounts of guns" Tony said as he pointed his hand at the bag Bucky carried. Steve just looked at the assassin who had the dignity to look a bit ashamed
Steve could have sworn he heard Harry say "Told you" to Bucky before snatching the bag from the metal hand and throwing it at Stark
"Would you be so kind as to return it all to JFK airport security?" Harry said as he positioned himself slightly in front of Bucky and right in front of most guns and arrows "And please stop aiming those things at us, all we want is to talk"
"Harry. Move." Bucky growled sending his metal hand forward but the teen didn't budge as he grabbed onto his hand
"I think you would really wish to talk to us alone "the teen stressed
"Listen to him man of Iron" Thor said "they mean us no harm"
"And you know it from your very in-depth acquaintance of fifteen minutes?" Tony asked
"Fourteen" Bucky automatically said before his eyes widened in shock as he realized what he did. Harry on the other hand started laughing uncontrollably to the wonder of everyone but Bucky "Shut up" the assassin attempted to growl but he was to humiliated to properly intimidate the now wheezing harry
"What on earth?" Tony wondered looking at the pair as if they went from terrifying into a pair of clown in less than a second, which in retrospect they have.
And that was how the pair was escorted to the living room at the top floors of Stark/Avenger's tower.
Harry sat next to Bucky as a medic was called to clean and stitch his wounds while the avengers discussed what they should do with the brainwashed ex(?)-HYDRA assassin and a very protective teenager that might have a screw or two loose.
Tony had his men return the guns and clean up the mess the duo did while entering the US and got JARVIS to closely monitor them as they conversed in the meeting room. Tony was surprised to have Thor pop over to the kitchen and returning with some pop tarts which he handed the teen. Tony never before saw the god share his supply of pop tarts before and that made him feel uneasy thinking the teen was able to somehow connect with the god so quickly. Steve was busy talking to Sam who was completely and understandably untrusting towards the assassin but both Clint and Natasha looked at the screens showing the duo in interest. Bruce was just sitting in a chair drinking a cup of coffee while reading from his tablet leaving Tony alone with his thoughts. He investigated the cases regarding the winter soldier, he knew about his parents' killer. He had to admit that he wanted to kill the assassin at first sight but having the teenager there, protecting him so fiercely, caused him to stop. The teen was an anomaly, he had JARVIS scan for facial recognition and get anything on him but other than getting him on camera at the airports the last 24 hours there was zero electronic trace that indicated who the boy was. Tony even scanned the released HYDRA files for any mention of a kid named Harry but he was out of luck there as well and that made him fidgety, he hate not knowing something and in this day and age being a ghost was never a good sign, yet every time he looked back at the teen who was now just staring at the TV he felt as if he was looking at his younger self, which was odd considering he was nothing like the kid. Sure they had similar look but other than that they were completely different. Tony kept drifting back to the scene he first saw the kid, the look in his eyes was haunting him. He looked so broken yet so desperate to protect the assassin. Steve said he was his little brother but Tony knew it was impossible.
Suddenly the teen let out a giggle and Tony froze as he sent the assassin next to him a cheeky grin. He realized why he felt connected to the kid; he was just as broken as he was. Harry seemed to be a younger broken version of Tony and that hurt him deep in his heart. At that moment Tony realized he might hate Bucky Barnes with burning fire but he was going to do whatever he could to shield the younger teen from becoming the broken adult he was.
A.N. so these were Steve, Thor and Tony's reactions to our marvelous duo. Next time Clint, Nat, Sam, and Bruce
