Rebekah stared at the brick prisons in a mixture of horror and confusion. She heard Marcel return telling the guard to leave them alone while she ran her fingers over the rough stone. Marcel had asked her to stay there for some time, as he had to check in on her brothers,
"What is this place?" she asked him when she felt his presence behind her.
"This is the Garden," he replied, gesturing to the faces poking through small openings. "It's where I punish vampires who break my rules."
Rebekah tilted her head when he pulled a thick roll of paper from a hidden nook.
"But a long time ago, it used to be something else,", he unfurled the paper and showed Rebekah what appeared to be a sketch of a mansion. Marcel glanced at her and smiled,
" Go on, tell me what you see."
Rebekah's finger traced each feature of the house. "Two stories, Greek columns, wrap-around porch, high ceilings, and transom windows: it's lovely," she said, her voice shaking with emotions as she worked to maintain the harsh tone and then looked at him through the corner of her eye. "So what?"
"So," Marcel smiled shyly. It was a far cry from the confidence he usually wore. "I designed it for you. It was going to be ours."
"This," Rebekah's eyes widened as she looked from the plans to the Garden, "this was supposed to be 'happily-ever-after?"
"Yours and mine," he nodded and hid the blueprints, "except you flew the coop with Klaus. I'd already built the foundations," his eyes scanned the darkroom, "I halted construction after you took off, and the plan was to wait for you to return. You never did, so now it's where I bury the people who betray me." Marcel's voice had turned accusing and hurt. It was filled with humorless amusement.
"You could have come after me," Rebekah said her voice also disappointed.
"You were with Klaus," he pointed out "I didn't know where. I didn't know if you still wanted to be with me. All you had to do was; come home."
"It was more complicated than that," she choked on her anger and blinked back tears. "Not long after we left he put a dagger in my heart and stuck me in a box for ninety years. He stole a century of my life like it was nothing."
"That's what he does, Rebekah. Klaus will never be happy, and he'll be damned if lets anyone get something he can't have."
"I know. I have been dancing to that song for a thousand years," Rebekah shook her head.
" Starting right now, you have a choice, Rebekah," Marcel's hands settled on her shoulders, "between the brother who steals your happiness, whenever he feels like it, and the man who wants to give you everything you ever wanted."
She stared into his eyes for a long moment while Marcel tilted his head before she shook her head and whispered.
"He'll kill you in front of me out of spite."
"Not if we get rid of him first," Marcel said, his eyes filled with promise and hope as if he believed the words that came out of his mouth.
Elena bend downwards and tried to get her breathing under control, she closed her eyes and tried to not panic. Tyler Lockwood the boy who she had known since she was born, her best friend had forced vervain in her, knowing that it would kill the two lives in her. And they just might, if Elijah or Klaus couldn't reach her in time. She hoped they would, prayed they did. Tyler had not been reasonable after she had stabbed him, it was lucky that she had saved herself from dying
Elena screamed in pain, holding her broken wrist in her hand as Tyler dragged her by her hair to some open space. It was no use fighting, Elena knew that but she still did as she tried to stop herself from being dragged. But it did nothing but injure her more than she already was, it didn't help matters that Tyler was showing no mercy as he purposefully chose the paths in the bayou with thorns. He seemed to barely control himself right now and was physically struggling with keeping himself in control,
" Tyler please don't be better than Klaus I know you you are not like that. Tyler please." Elena said after him, but he paid her no heed and continued dragging her to a clearing of sorts. And on reaching the edge of the last of the trees he picked Elena up still gripping her hair tightly and then threw her on the ground. Elena reached the place of his choosing flying through the air and landed on her back. It was a matter of luck that she was able to keep her head high so it didn't touch the ground.
"Get up will you?" Elena heard Tyler's voice say from somewhere around her, but she was in too much pain to notice or even care. She heard a sigh from somewhere around her and then the sound of steady footsteps set at a casual pace, and then the next thing she knew was someone had placed his hand on her mouth, a bleeding hand. It was Tyler's hand. Elena gulped down the blood and after a minute started feeling better. It was only when she was conscious that she realized that Tyler had wiped the wound on her arms with a cloth. She looked at him,
" There is vervain on your wounds, that why the abnormally you carry in your stomach couldn't heal you," he explained, looking at her with an unreadable expression although there was fury still stirring in the depth of his eyes.
Elena bit her tongue to keep herself from protesting at the word abnormal, it would do her no good in the present situation. She knew she couldn't kill Tyler nor could she outrun him. So physically it was not possible. Previously she had managed to distract him with her words, but this time they were not going to be of any help either. So she was trapped, unless ... unless she was able to use those powers that she had accidentally used in the cabin. But what could she do with them, she could snap his neck right, weren't powerful witches able to do that. And if what Tyler and the other witches had told her was true then it was entirely possible that all these visions and magic tricks were a result of the power she was drawing from her own child.
Not knowing about the influx of thoughts going on in Elena's mind, Tyler simply looked at her. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought that he would dare lay a hand on Elena, she was his best friend, the girl with whom he would escape all the boring founders' party when both of them found it unbearable to handle any more of the usual monotonous couple dances. The girl with whom his mother had always wanted to pair him with. The girl with whom he complained and moaned about the additional responsibility of being a member of one of the founding families in Mystic Falls, as they both had to attend all those ridiculous parties. He shook his head trying to clear himself of all of the memories and started speaking his mind now more determined than ever. In doing so he had also interrupted Elena's train of thoughts,
" I think we have postponed it long enough, don't you think," Tyler said, his tone showing as if it was a question when they both knew it wasn't one.
" What are you going to do?" Elena asked quietly as she braced herself to snap his neck she knew she would only get one shot at this.
" To you personally nothing physically I mean, nothing I haven't already done. And as for Klaus children well I think I have made my intentions pretty clear on that front." Tyler said as he bends down just in front of her and looked at her in the eyes, " But before that, I have a few questions. First, How are you a werewolf, does it run in the gilbert family or perhaps the Petrova family, how did the crescents come into play?"
" I am not actually related by blood to the Gilbert family, my birth father I assume was a part of the crescent pack. That's how I am a werewolf."
" But your birth father was John Gilbert, your mother lied didn't she?"
" Why are you asking? you know that already."
" Just curious, so onto the next question, that little display of magic, care to explain that?"
" I don't know, okay. I just wanted Dwayne to get off me and it happened. I made no other display of magic before today."
" Don't lie, Elena, your heart skips a beat every time you lie."
" I am not lying." Elena protested realizing that she was in fact lying, all these visions that she had which included the vision of Tyler stabbing her in her stomach were acts of magic. But she didn't want Tyler to know that,
" A lie again," Tyler said with a resigned look on his face, he then grabbed her chin and looked at her in the eye, and Elena's breath quickened,
" Do you regret It?" He asked his voice desperate. Elena said nothing, " Do you regret it?" Tyler screamed," betraying us all like that,"
" Tyler I was drunk. I don't even remember it." Elena said. If the situation was not a life-death one, she would have been appalled at the frequent changes in her friend's mood.
Tyler nodded his head a few times his moments urgent," I am going to set you free now, you will be free from the Mikaelsons." He put his free hand inside his pocket retrieving some plant which burned at his hand although he didn't seem to care his attention on the pregnant girl in front of him. Elena was horrified to recognize that it was aconite.
" Now you are free," Tyler said before shoving the plant in her mouth at the same time Elena raised her hand. A deafening crack resounded in the air as Tyler Lockwood fell on the floor unconscious his neck snapped. As soon as she heard the snap, Elena spat out the plant from her mouth, unfortunately, she was too late she had swallowed some of it. Elena got up whispering,
"Oh my God, Oh my god."
Do I know that this is short? Yes. But as I mentioned earlier my midterms are approaching and well I can't update much. So something is better than nothing right. Just so you all know, I have read all the reviews, and thanks for answering the questions. Do tell me your thoughts on this one. Caroline will make an appearance soon enough, till then enjoy.
