Chapter 1: Back to the beginnning

Fire.

That was all that could be seen on this destroyed earth. Buildings were nothing but rubble, vegetation had all but burnt to the ground. Life itself has been pretty much gone extinct with only specks of them trying to stay alive.

Everything went to hell when Trihexa appeared, the "Beast of Apocalypse". Its power was unlike any other, with its might being on par with Great Red at his prime. The Beast was originally sealed by the Biblical God, in hopes that it would never resurface again to the world.

However, a devil by the name of Rizevim Livan Lucifer decided to unseal the seal so that he could use the destructive power to destroy every single being of the world to make his own utopia.

But it never came to fruition. When Trihexa awoke, it caused a massive surge of energy that every being was able to feel it. The Beast went after Rizevim and he was one of the first few to fall from such destructive power. Soon, Trihexa set its sights on the world.

Both Heaven and Underworld were destroyed by the Beast's destructive power. The 3 factions and the rest of other mythologies like Norse and Shinto all worked together to stop the Beast, but they too were destroyed.

Several months went by since the day the Beast descended onto earth, destroying everything in its sights. Humanity has practically gone extinct after one month passed.

Now, only a handful of beings left have yet to die off in this destroyed earth. As such, the remnants of what's left of the world got together to prepare for one final stand against it.

(Normal P.O.V)

[Welsh Blaster Bishop!]

A humanoid red dragon was charging his attack as he prepared to fire a blast at the Trihexa. That dragon was Hyoudou Issei in his balance breaker, as he made a desperate attack at it.

[Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Issei had enough boost for the attack, then he fired it. "Take this, Dragon Blaster!" A massive green blast fired and flew towards the Beast.

The blast made its mark on Trihexa, but that attack hardly made a scratch on its body. "Tch!" Issei clicked his teeth. Most of his attacks didn't even hurt it in the slightest.

Trihexa retaliated by charging its breath, soon a massive blast was about to be fired upon on the Red Dragon Emperor.

"Damn it!" Issei glared at the beast as Trihexa fired a massive flame attack at him.

Issei had to cross his arms to brace himself from Trihexa flames but another person intervened and blocked the attack in his stead.

A massive water dragon appeared and collided with the flames, but the flames were too strong as the water dragon was being pushed back.

A water barrier appeared around Issei as he looked at the person who conjured all this water spells this powerful despite having no water anywhere in this fiery environment.

"Sona!" Issei shouted as Sona kept the massive water dragon and barrier up. She was gritting her teeth as blood was dripping from her waist, the right side of her waist was bleeding badly.

"Don't worry about me, just focus on preparing to counterattack!" Sona said. But before Issei could answer back, something massive struck them as the impact bypassed the barrier.

Trihexa used its limbs to deliver a physical blow to the two of them, breaking the barrier Sona created and caused the ground beneath them to explode and crumble, leaving only rubble in its place.

"Ughh…" Issei groaned as he survived the attack, but his balance breaker form was broken, leaving the gauntlet on his left arm. His legs were hit, and he could not feel his right arm. He also had several burns all over his body.

Sona suffered worse. Her head was bleeding and she also had numerous burns and cuts from all the burning debris. Her previous injury made it all much worse as she was now unconscious, unaware that she is bleeding profusely.

Issei tried to stand up but his injured legs made it difficult. He did manage to stand, but barely did so.

He saw Trihexa looming over him, preparing to launch another attack that would likely end him. Issei took a deep breath and gathered all the strength he had left in him.

[Partner, considering all the injuries we currently have, this will be the last attack that is in full power before your body gives way and shuts down.] Ddraig said.

"Thanks for the heads up, Ddraig." Issei said as he raised his remaining arm. Specks of light began to appear from it as the light illuminated the place and form a certain weapon.

A very intricate spear formed in Issei's hand, a dark blue spear with gold markings with a sliver-white blade and two gold chains wrapped around the front part of the spear. The bladed part of the spear was shining bright as Issei prepared himself.

Trihexa was also ready to launch another deadly attack as a massive energy was building in front of it. A small ball of energy was created in front of its mouth.

[Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Boost! Bo-...] The Boosted Gear was charging as much as Issei could handle, until it hit the sixty-fourth boost.

"Alright, this is everything I've got!" Issei declared as he finished charging his Boosted Gear, but instead of applying to himself, he did something else.

[Transfer!] All the power that his Booster Gear made was transferred to the spear and as the power was transferred, the spear shined brighter than before.

Streams of light surrounded the spear as the spear was fully charged, the spear now became a massive spear of pure light. "Take this, Trihexa! Balance Breaker, True Longinus Gotterdammerung!" Issei launched his desperate attack.

The Trihexa bellowed loudly, launching its' attack, the ball of energy became a massive beam that was headed for the Red Dragon Emperor.

Issei fired the spear just as Trihexa fired its attack, the two beams of light flew through the air and eventually converged in the middle.

"BOOOOMMM!" An enormous sound could be heard as the two beams were pushing against each other. It would appear on first impressions that both attacks were equally matched, however, slowly but surely, the attack made by the True Longinus was pushing back towards Trihexa.

Eventually, the True Longinus overpowered Trihexa's attack, and managed to hit the beast. It was the most successful attack Issei had made as the whole right side of Trihexa's body was completely blown off of him.

"RRROOOAAARR!" The Trihexa bellowed as it felt the pain from the attack. In retaliation, the beast used its wings, the wings glowed and multiple beams were sent towards Issei.

Issei did his best to avoid the beams but unfortunately, several beams still managed to hit him. His arms and legs were hit, as well as a fatal wound to his stomach.

Issei coughed out blood as he fell to his knees, his body slumped over, he was going to die at this rate with all those injuries.

Trihexa was faring far better. It had high speed regeneration, which allowed it to fully heal and regenerate itself, even if the body was nothing but ash. It began to heal the wounds it received earlier and was regenerating its blown body. In just a few minutes, Trihexa's right body was fully regenerated

"Damn...it..." Issei was starting to lose his conscious as he saw Trihexa regenerating. Then he saw another thing, Trihexa was preparing another attack with its breath, but this time, he was sure that that attack would truly end him.

[Partner, wake up! That beast is about to attack again!] Ddraig yelled, telling Issei to get ready.

"I got a fatal wound...sorry Ddraig...looks like...it wasn't enough…. to beat that monster…" Issei was too weak to recover due to that attack as he was bleeding badly.

[So…this is it huh…partner, I'm glad that you were my host…you were definitely the best one I've had.] Ddraig said sadly.

"Thanks…but I guess this is it...everyone... forgive me…. It seems I can't avenge your deaths…." Issei said sadly.

"Don't take it…too hard on…yourself…we both failed them…" Issei heard a weak voice on his left. He took a lot of effort to turn his head and saw Sona lying right behind him. She was still bleeding badly from her injuries.

"Sona…" "It's alright…I can also tell…I won't survive this…it's really frustrating…isn't it?" Sona smiled sadly, also knowing that she would also die very soon.

"Yeah…I guess…at least we can…join everyone else now…" Issei commented.

"Can I…at least…hold your hand…in these last few moments…with you?" Sona weakly asked as she tried to raise her hand towards Issei.

Issei didn't said anything, but he used whatever strength he had left and reached out and held Sona's hand with his left hand. "If I had...any regrets…it's that…we couldn't hold…that wedding…" He said.

"I agree…being together…with you…was the…happiest time I've been…Thank you…Issei" Sona said as she tightened her hold with Issei, making sure she doesn't let go.

"Same here…Thank you…Sona…" Issei said as he lost conscious. Around this time, Trihexa had finished charging its attack, it bellowed and fired a deverstating wave of beams that blasted the two injured heroes.

As the blast engulfed the duo, unbeknownst to them, a strange portal opened and their bodies went into the portal, avoiding the fatal blast.

In a certain area, the clear sun shined in the blue sky as flowers were blooming in amongst the trees around.

The light rays of the sun shine at a certain boy who was lying on the ground. Issei began to squirm a bit as he slowly opened his eyes. He saw the clear blue sky which surprised him, as the color of the sky was red back when Trihexa appeared.

He slowly got up as he attempted to get his bearings, he noticed that he is currently in a forested area. 'What happened? I thought Trihexa killed me when it blasted its attack on me and Sona. So where am I?' Issei thought.

He checked to see his body and was surprised to see that all his wounds he received have been healed. No burns, broken bones or anything. It was like he never got into the fight with the beast.

As Issei was figuring out his situation, he heard a mumble. He turned to his side as he saw another person lying next to him, a familiar woman with black bob cut hair that he is all too familiar with, lying with a peaceful expression.

That got him shocked and he went to see her condition. He was surprised that just like him, there were no injuries and was completely healed. But he had a much higher priority, that is waking up the woman.

"Sona, wake up!" Issei said as he shook her shoulders to wake her up. Sona stirred as she slowly awakened, still a bit dazed. "What is it, Issei?" She mumbled as she awoke.

However, when her eyes locked onto Issei, she froze with her eyes wide open. Soon, tears formed in her violet eyes as she cried. "Issei!" She hugged him tightly as he returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around her and comforted her.

"It's alright Sona, I'm here and not going anywhere." Issei tried to make her feel better as she patted her back a bit.

"I know that, but it still hurt my heart watching you die first, even though I died right after." She said as she cried on his shoulder.

"But we're both here for each other now, and I'll still be here for you as long as it takes." He said as he began to stroke Sona's hair, calming her down.

After a while, Sona wiped her tears as she looked up to match his eyes and sure enough, she kissed him on the lips. Issei was caught off guard when she kissed him, but he simply melted into it, returning the favor.

She let the kiss linger for a bit before pulling back. "I'll hold you to that." Sona said as a small smile appeared on her face.

"Alright then my queen." Issei grinned widely as Sona blushed a bit at his response.

[It's good that you are doing alright now, partner, you too as well, Sitri.] A voice spoke to the two of them which surprised the two of them a bit.

"Ddraig, so you are still here with us. But how?" Issei said.

[Actually partner, before we continue I want to ask, can you still summon the spear?] Ddraig asked. Issei was a bit skeptical, but raised his right hand in front of him.

Blue lights formed and soon, the blue spear he was wielding earlier appeared. "Okay… I still have the True Longinus, but that can't be right." Issei was surprised that he still possessed it.

"Well, we have to discuss on our current situation, just where are we right now? I don't believe that this is the afterlife, it's too peaceful." Sona asked.

"I'm not sure either. Ddraig, do you know what happened when we got hit by Trihexa? By right, we should have been killed by that beast." Issei asked as he unsheathed the spear and a green light appeared on his left hand.

[I also thought that we were goners too at that time. But right as you got hit by Trihexa's attack, a portal appeared for some reason and apparently sent the two of you here.] Ddraig said.

"I see… I can't believe it. I suppose we can count our lucky stars. In that case, do you know where are we then?" Issei asked the big question.

[That's the thing partner, while you both were still sleeping, I was sensing our surroundings and I was able to sense myself in this world.]

"What, you sensed another Ddriag? How can that be, are you saying that we somehow went back in time or something?" Sona asked in disbelief.

[Apparently so, but not only that, I could not feel that Trihexa's presence anywhere. I believe that he is still in his sealed state and has yet to awaken.]

"Then that means…" Issei and Sona trailed off as they thought of their situation.

The both of them have to take a while to take all this information in. After all, one cannot just say that you managed to time travel right as you were about to die. But if they did manage to go back in time, they could prevent the apocalypse from ever occurring.

"If we did indeed travel back to the past, we can take this opportunity to prepare. I won't let that Beast of Apocalypse roam again." Issei said with resolution.

"I agree, maybe this time around we can prevent Trihexa from awakening." Sona said in agreement.

[I agree as well, partner. We somehow got a second chance to turn things around and we are not going to waste it.] Ddraig said.

"Well, first things first, we need to find our bearings and find any familiar landmarks. Remaining in this forest isn't going to get us anywhere." Sona suggested.

"Okay." Issei said as he got up and helped pull Sona up to her feet. "Thanks, dear." She appreciated the gesture, as the two of them walked through the forested area, hand in hand.

The two of them had become a couple for several months now, Issei even proposed to Sona to make them an official couple. This is evident as Sona wore a wedding ring on her right hand, signaling their sign as a couple. They would have had an official wedding, if it wasn't for Trihexa appearing and ruining the world.

Soon, the two of them found their way out of the forested area and found a landmark. But the landmark that they found was all too familiar as they knew what it was as soon as they saw it.

A familiar building stood in front of them. They could see people walking in and out of the building's front gates. This was Kuoh Academy, the school that Issei and Sona knew all too well.

"It's Kuoh Academy. It actually is still standing here." Sona said amazed that the school was still here, since the academy was destroyed for some time when Trihexa first descended to earth.

"Yeah, looks like you were right in saying that we went back in time, Ddraig." Issei said. "I missed this place."

[Yes, but now the issue is exactly how far back did we go. We could have travelled back to right before the seal of Trihexa broke or when you first joined the student council, partner.] Ddraig mentioned.

"That is a good point. There should be a way for us to find out what time period this is without exposing ourselves. After all, how can we explain that there are two Sona and Issei at the same time?" Sona had her hand on her chin as she thought of a way.

But before she could do so, they heard a shout that brought back some memories.

"Stop right there! You damn perverts!" Issei and Sona looked back to the school area where they saw a group of girls carrying kendo shinais as they were chasing a group of guys.

"It's the kendo club, and it looks like they are chasing the perverted duo, Matsuda and Motohama. This really brings back memories doesn't it Sona?" Issei had a small smile as he asked her.

"Don't remind me. I can still remember the number of letters of complaints made to the perverted group from just the kendo club alone." Sona said as she pinched her glasses upwards, but was smiling internally at the nostalgia.

As they looked back at the perverted duo, they saw the shock of their lives. It was not a duo, but a trio. They saw a familiar brown hair and face as the person ran alongside the two perverts.

"Hold on, is that me… running alongside with the perverted duo?" Issei asked shocked.

"Apparently, but how? You were with the student council for pretty much the whole time in school and you weren't a pervert." Sona wondered as she also was surprised.

[That is not the only thing. I only realized it now, I can sense myself in him, but it feels different. It is like he is much weaker here.] Ddraig said.

"But... if that's the case then…" Sona trailed off before they heard another shout.

"We got you! There is no escape this time, you perverted trio!" One of the kendo club members said as the club surrounded the trio, as they paled in fear.

"Um… can we talk about this?" The other Issei said. "Nope." And the girls proceeded to beat the crap out of them with their shinais.

While the trio got themselves beaten by the kendo club, Sona and her Issei stood there as they processed this and cleared some doubts in their heads.

"The kendo club called them the perverted trio. It looks like you are a solidified pervert here." Sona said. "But that would mean…"

Issei answered that for her. "Yeah... it looks like you're only half right Ddraig. That portal didn't just send us back in time, but we also travelled to an alternate world."

[Yes… this is quite the turn of events, partner.]

That's the chapter. I thought of trying this out as I rarely see fanfiction where parallel versions of themselves travel to another world. So, this is my first dxd fanfic so there would be a lot of lore I may get wrong.

As for why Sona is the main pairing, I just find it interesting and I didn't want to simply pair him with the ORC. Plus, Sona is one of my favorite girls in dxd. I haven't decided if the story should be rated M, but I may change it.
