We'll Be A Family

C18: Edward's End

Standard Disclaimer: I don't own any of the recognizable characters

A/N: So, this might seem like it's a week early, but I'll be very honest and say that for the next eight weeks, so until August 16th, there will be a chapter a week for both my active stories. The reason for this is besides the fact I'm nearing the end of both of them, it's also going to be my six year anniversary of writing, and I really need a little bit of a break from writing altogether. So I want everyone to know, that when these active stories are finished, there will be a period of at least two months of no uploads. I'll be back around November with new stories, because there are a few tings I still want to write, like the sequel to my Star Wars series, which is a work in progress at the moment and will probably be the focus when I start uploading again. For now, I hope you enjoy and I'll see you all next week for the next one.

Bella's POV

Even though we were in the basement, I could hear the screams and claps of thunder outside and in my mind I was conjuring up the worst images imaginable, that any minute now Edward would barge through that door, reinforced as it may be and end all of us, and I just couldn't help but cry silently.

Rosalie of course noticed and pulled me against her. "It's okay love. He won't get to you. Sulpicia and Esme will not allow it, and even if, and that is a big if, he manages to come here, he isn't a match for Heidi, we will always protect you, from anything."

I smiled and kissed her softly as I cuddled further into her. "I know, but we all know I am not in my right mind at the moment. The girls are beyond fussy and everything I'm trying to calm them down is not working."

Rosalie smiled and pressed a kiss to my neck as she placed her hands on my belly, humming a nursery rhyme softly.

Heidi also joined in and soon I felt how the girls settled themselves, apparently falling asleep because their movements had nearly stopped and became a lot more manageable. "I don't know how you do it Heidi, but they always settle down when you sing to them. You have a beautiful voice."

Heidi smiled at that. "Thank you Bella. That means a lot to me."

I smiled at her and pulled her next to me on the couch. "It's true, every time I've heard you sing to our daughters, they instantly settle. Perhaps you could sing them a song every night. It'll at least make sure that I manage to get some sleep in the last weeks of my pregnancy."

Heidi smiled at that. "If your mate is okay with that, I would gladly sing your daughters a song every night. All we want is to make sure that you have as smooth a last trimester as possible."

Rosalie smiled at that. "I don't mind at all. Sleep will be good for her in these last month of pregnancy and I too want my young mate to have as easy a last stretch as possible." She said as she pressed a soft kiss to my cheek.

I smiled and nuzzled her neck. "I'm sure that after today we'll have an easy last month baby."

Rosalie smiled as her head snapped to the door, Heidi immediately standing up and crouching down in front of me.

"Relax girls, it's just your mother. It's all over, and all that remains is to judge Edward. We thought you would want to be present for that." Sulpicia said with a smile as she opened the door.

I smiled at her and waddled up to her to give her a hug. "I'm so glad you're all okay. I was imagining the worst things in my mind."

Sulpicia smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of my head. "He made the mistake of attacking us when the entire Volturi clan was here. If he had attacked us when it was just our family, we might've had another outcome, but this was a fought battle from the start."

I smiled at her and stayed by her side as we walked back upstairs, needing to feel close to her at the moment, because I really needed to know that everyone was okay.

The moment we were outside I could see the bonfire that had been built, where Emmett and Alec were still throwing body parts into, and I honestly didn't have as much of an issue with it as I thought I would have.

What I also did not have an issue with is the limbless body of Edward snarling between Felix and Demetri, and I just couldn't help but smile at the look on his face as I molded myself against Rosalie's side. "What's wrong Eddie. Mad that I'm finally by the side of my true mate?"

He growled at us. "This just proves what I have always known. That you are an immoral slut who can't keep her legs closed."

Rosalie growled at him. "It's your fault this happened in the first place Fuckward! If you had just taken a piece of advice for once in your goddamn life you wouldn't be doing your best Black Knight impression right now. At least you'll die knowing that you failed in the end."

Sulpicia smiled at us. "There's no need to lower yourself to his level Rosalie dear. His death is certain, and as he tried to steal your mate, you should have the honor of relieving him of his head."

Rosalie smiled at that. "Thank you mother, but I wouldn't want to rob Jane of the opportunity. I would like to be the one that sends his head into the fire if that's okay."

Sulpicia smiled and nodded. "Of course dear. Jane, would you be so kind?"

"Of course mother. It will be my absolute pleasure." Jane said with a soft smile as she sauntered up to Edward. "I've waited a century to be able to do this, and now to be able to do it for my sister is all the more rewarding. Can't say it was a pleasure knowing you either." She said before literally ripping his head from his body and then walking up to us while Felix and Demetri tossed his torso onto the bonfire.

"Here you are sister. The last bit of that idiot for you to burn." Jane said with a slight smirk.

Rosalie smiled and placed a kiss on my cheek as Jane came to stand beside me, wrapping an arm around my waist. "It's over sister. Nothing now stands in the way of your and Rosalie's happiness."

I smiled at her. "I know, and I want to thank you for dealing with him quickly. I may hate him, but he didn't need to suffer more than he already had."

"That's why mother came to get you when she did. We already had our fun with him and we thought that it would be good for you to get that closure by seeing his end." Jane said softly as we watched Rosalie drop throw his head into the fire.

"It will certainly help the process, and I'm glad I can finally close this chapter."

Jane smiled and nodded at that. "Now all you have to focus on is having as relaxed a remainder of your pregnancy as we can give you."

I only nodded as Rosalie came walking back to us. "It's finally over love. We can finally look to the future." She said before kissing me.

I relaxed in her embrace and smiled at her. "And we will do that together, my love."

Rosalie smiled and nodded as we watched the fire burn everyone to ashes, and not for the first time I wished I had some marshmallows.

Sulpicia's POV

When the fire had died down, we moved back inside, the three of us taking their spot at the entrance to the living room, so everyone could see us. "It seems today has been a very fortuitous day for all of us. Edward was the last real threat we had looming over our heads and that could've been a threat to our rule, if he had been a little bit smarter. Now we can look forward to the future as a new Coven." I said with a soft smile.

"Kicking us out so soon already Cia? We've only just arrived." Didyme said with a teasing smile.

"Of course not, in fact feel free to stay as long as you like, I was merely stating that we really don't have anything else to discuss right now." Sulpicia said with a smile.

Didyme smiled at her. "I think you might be right in that. Perhaps it is also to time to rethink our Coven's purpose a little. We've been quite passive over the past centuries, and perhaps it is time to take a more active role in ruling. It is certainly easier to do when we're spread over the world."

"I agree with Didyme, as surprising as that may be. This business with Edward could've been avoided if we hadn't wasted centuries sitting on our asses in Volterra. It's time that we take a more active approach in ruling." Athenodora said in her usual matter of fact tone.

"You have a very good point Dora, and I think that with a minor adjustment we might make this work. As useful as it is have two of us in Europe, I feel it might be beneficiary to have one part of our Coven in South America. There is a big presence there as well." I said with a smile.

"If I may mother. I had a vision while we were cleaning up the mess that it might be more helpful to have a presence in Asia and Africa. Amun was a good friend of Carlisle and might become a problem." Alice said softly.

I smiled at her. "Thank you Alice. Your visions prove to be invaluable once again, and I have to agree with you. Amun might become a problem and I think we all agree that we would want to avoid another uprising."

Athenodora and Didyme smiled and nodded. "That is very true, and if you are all in agreeance, we'll move to Egypt once we conclude our business here. Romania has been fun, but it's not the most cultural country." Athenodora said with a soft smile.

"Well that was easy. Was there anything else we needed to discuss, or can we call this meeting here?" I asked with a smile.

Didyme and Athenodora shared a look and shook their heads. "No, I think we can call it here. I've always been one for action." Athenodora said with a smile.

"We know Dora, and I think once Amun gets wind of your presence in Egypt, you'll get plenty of action. I however don't mind this period of peace. It'll give me more time to catalog the library in Volterra." Didyme said with a smile.

We all smiled at her. "I would've thought you would've done that by now. You certainly had enough time." I said with a smile.

Didyme smiled at that. "I also have things to do Cia. As you well know, one benefit of having all the time in the world and not needing sleep is that you can take a long time to accomplish your goals."

I nodded and smiled at her. "I know, it has certainly helped me learning how to cook, something what my daughter seems to appreciate."

Isabella blushed a little at that. "I certainly do mother, but I hope you won't be offended when I say that nothing can beat Mom's food."

I could see Esme smile sweetly at her. "I'm not offended sweetie. I know my darling wife is an amazing cook, and a better cook then I will ever be. My talents lie elsewhere, as you well know."

She smiled and nodded as she cuddled into her mate. "Sulpicia also told me that you liked history Isabella. Are there any topics you are especially interested in?" Didyme asked sweetly.

Isabella nodded and smiled at her. "I have always loved ancient history, especially Egyptian and European history. I find it fascinating."

Didyme smiled at her. "Then I will see if I can find a book I think you will love. It has a lot of detail on Egyptian history, and I've added to it where necessary."

Bella smiled brightly at her. "That would be amazing, and now that I have the chance, I would also like to thank you for the novels Jane and Alec gave me on my birthday. They were amazing."

"You're very welcome Isabella. When I heard we finally had another literature enthusiast in the family, I made sure to send you only the very best. I'm glad you enjoyed them." Didyme said with a smile.

Bella smiled at that. "I did, it was so amazing to be able to read Shakespeare originals. I never thought I would ever be able to see such a thing."

"We have a lot of originals in our library Bella. You are more than welcome to come and scour the library when you come to visit Volterra."

She smiled and nodded. "Thank you Auntie. I would love to. It can be a nice vacation for everyone, we've certainly earned it now that Edward is dead."

Didyme smiled brightly at that. "That you have, and I think your mother would love to show you the old parts of Volterra Castle, and may I add that it warms my heart to hear you call me Auntie."

Bella smiled at her. "You are my mother's sister, so I would say that is just natural, and it feels natural with you, I don't know if I will be able to do the same with Athenodora, no offense of course."

"I understand Bella. Give it a few years. I know my presence can be a little bit intimidating and stand offish at times." Athenodora said with a kind smile.

Bella smiled and nodded. "I'm sure that I'll become more comfortable with you in the coming decades."

Athenodora only nodded and smiled at her as we all fell into a bit more relaxed conversation, although most of it still surrounding Isabella's pregnancy.

Rosalie's POV

The following morning Bella was surprisingly excited to get out of bed and get an early start of the day, which surprised me a little, given how lethargic she had been over the last weeks. "Are you okay love? You seem so energetic this morning." I asked with a soft smile.

"Because this is the dawn of a new day baby. Edward is dead and blown away to the wind, probably carried by the rainbow that he burned up in, and we can now finally enjoy our time together without having to worry about anyone being stupid enough to break us apart." She said as she gave me a kiss and waddled into the bathroom.

I just smiled and quickly got dressed as well, hiding my little surprise in my jean pocket for now, a surprise I knew would cause at least a few happy tears from her.

I had been preparing this day for a long time, and I really hoped that Bella wouldn't figure it out just yet, and while I knew the actual day would have to wait a couple of years, I wanted to have the certainty that she would say yes. The ring I had chosen for my proposal was an ancient Volturi heirloom given to me by Sulpicia when I told her I wanted to propose to Bella soon, and that filled my heart with even more warmth and love for the blonde that I had come to see as a second mother.

The entire family, with the exception of Esme and Sulpicia had gone out for a hunt, and the same went for the majority of the Volturi Guard, leaving only Didyme, Athenodora and Tanya here, the women stating that they needed to be present for a proposal to one of their princesses.

I didn't mind them being here, because it would certainly help Bella if her mothers and aunts were there. "I'll go and check on your breakfast baby. I'll see you in a minute."

"That's okay love, I'll be right out. Pregnancy bladder is not a fun experience." She said loud enough for me to hear, which honestly wasn't that loud.

I just smiled and placed her favorite yoga pants and sweatshirt on the bed for her, knowing that she wanted to wear that from experience.

As I walked into the kitchen Esme and Sulpicia smiled at me. "Good morning dear. Is everything ready for your grand surprise?" Esme asked sweetly.

"It is, I just hope she'll love it as much as I hope she will. I will admit that I'm a bit nervous. What if she says no?" I asked softly.

Esme smiled and hugged me. "Sweetie, I know that Bella will say yes. What's bringing this on. Is it the confrontation with Edward yesterday?"

I shook my head at that. "No, not at all, but with her hormones pretty much controlling her at the moment, it can go whichever way."

"Then trust in your daughters sweetheart. They will want their mommies to do this." She said as her eyes flicked to the stairs.

I followed her gaze and smiled. "You should know by now you can't eavesdrop on vampires love." I said teasingly.

"It's not that Rosie, for some reason I'm having a sense of vertigo from the stairs. I'm afraid I'm going to tumble down the stairs." She said softly and with a slight blush.

I smiled and scooped her up in my arms as I flashed to her side. "Then I will carry my princess down the stairs and to her breakfast. Are you okay love?"

"I'm okay, but perhaps we should move our room downstairs until the girls are born, unless you want to carry me down the stairs every morning." She said as her blush darkened a little.

"You know I don't have a problem with that, but it's up to you baby. All that matters is your comfort." I said with a soft smile as I set her down next to her seat.

She smiled and kissed me. "Then I think we can stay in our room, and perhaps the girls will be kind and settle down in the morning so I can function at least somewhat normally." She said before digging into her pancakes.

I just smiled at her as I watched her eat, while Esme placed a sandwich in front of me, tipping me a sly wink and a loving smile.

"Where are the others anyway? I would have thought the entire family would be here to watch me eat." Bella said softly.

"They're out on hunts sweetie. Yesterday was taxing for most of us, and they wanted to be safe, especially since most of us aren't used to your tantalizing scent." Tanya said with a smile.

Bella nodded and smiled at the blonde. "I figured, but didn't want to assume anything. I was merely wondering."

We all smiled at that. "Bella baby, there is something I need to ask you. It's almost been nine months since I confessed my feelings for you and I've never been happier, and now I hope you will make me the happiest woman on the planet. Will you marry me?"

Bella's POV

Out of everything I had expected that she could ask me, this wasn't even on the list of possibilities, or rather my pregnancy addled brain didn't think this could've been on the list, but when I saw the beautiful ring she presented me with, I realized I hadn't even answered her yet. "Yes, of course I will marry you Rose. There is nothing I want more than to call myself your wife."

She smiled and kissed me softly and I just couldn't help but return it. "I know our actual wedding will have to wait a bit, but I couldn't live another day without knowing that you're mine in the most intimate way possible for a vampire. Marriage isn't exactly common for vampires."

"Like there would be any chance of me saying no. I want to be able to call myself Mrs. Isabella Hale, and I don't mind if we have to wait for a while. Perhaps we could wait until I am turned and the girls can be flowergirls, that would be cute." I said with a soft smile.

Rosalie smiled and lifted me into her lap. "I think we'll have to add a Volturi to that as well, but I don't think either of us will mind that fact. It will certainly make mother happy, and of course we're going to use our daughters as flowergirls, just imagine how cute that is going to look."

I smiled at her before turning to Esme and Sulpicia, who were both smiling broadly. "Congratulations you two. We're so happy for you." Esme said as she came up to hug me.

I relaxed in her hug and smiled at her. "Thank you Mom."

"Rosalie is right though sweetie, your wedding might be a couple of years away, are you okay with that?" Sulpicia asked with a smile.

I nodded and smiled at her. "I am. While it will be a big day with all the little bells and whistles, it is a formality. We both know that no force on this planet can break us apart, even Dr. Bors considers us to be married already, so for all intents and purposes, we already are, but that also doesn't mean that I don't want an overly extravagant wedding with everything. I have a reputation of a Volturi princess to uphold after all.

Sulpicia smiled at that. "And trust me that we will deliver on that sweetie, with both of your input of course. It's been centuries since we had a Volturi wedding, and I think your sisters and cousins will be overjoyed when they get back. We might need to find a way to temper Alice a little."

I nodded at that, having not even thought about the crazy Pixie and her reaction to this. "We might, but I think we can placate her easily enough."

"Actually, Alice already knew that I was going to propose today just for this specific reason. She promised to keep it mild and to try and behave herself with her excitement." Rosalie said with a smile.

I smiled and kissed her softly. "I figured as much, just as I suspect that most of the family already knows."

"You would be right in that, it's part of the reason they aren't here. They did need to hunt, I just asked them to do it early so we can spend the majority of the day celebrating our engagement." She said with a smile.

I nodded and kissed her as I waddled to the couch. "Then until they return, I would like to relax a bit. The girls are a bit fussy and they will need their Mommies to calm them a little."

Rosalie smiled and sat down next to me. "Of course love, I would do anything to keep my daughters and their Mommy happy."

I smiled at her as we both placed our hands on my belly, both of us humming a lullaby to calm them down a bit.

When the others came back a few hours later, Alice was the first to come up to hug me. "Congratulations Bella. I promised Rosalie I would temper my excitement, but I'm just so happy for you."

"I know Ali, and I don't mind it this time. I know you must be buzzing with questions for the wedding that we are going to let you help plan, together with our mothers and aunts of course. We wouldn't want this to be anything less than a proper Volturi wedding after all." I said with a soft smile.

She nodded excitedly at that. "Of course, it has to be perfect. You and Rosalie deserve nothing less, and I know this might be very early to ask, but I was hoping you and Rosalie would let me design your dresses. It's the least I can do."

I shared a look with my Goddess, who only smiled at me. "Of course you can Alice, I could think of no one better to design our dresses, but I do think I speak for both Rosalie and myself when I say that we want colorful dresses. We're hardly virgins after all."

Alice smiled and nodded. "Of course. If I am not mistaken and I remember Esme's dress correctly, crimson is the color of Volturi wedding dresses, and I think you would look amazing in that color."

I only smiled and nodded at her. "I think we can make that work, because I really wouldn't want to break tradition, or become a Bridezilla during preparations."

Alice giggled at that. "I'm sure that won't be an issue, Bella. Trust me on that one. I haven't seen anything mind you, but I have a gut feeling that it will be a breeze."

I smiled at that. "Yeah, it probably will, because you will design amazing dresses for us and the day itself will be perfect, especially if we have two gorgeous and cute flowergirls there."

"I'm sure I can come up with something cute for them as well. I'll talk to the Queens on what will be appropriate." Alice said with a smile.

"We'll talk about that dear, but don't hog your sister. The rest wants to congratulate her too." Esme said with a soft smile.

Alice pouted only a little but stepped back as the rest of the family came up to congratulate and hug me, and I don't think I ever received more hugs in my life.

The most surprising was Jane though, who hugged me longer than she ever had before and had such a genuine smile on her face that I thought I may still be dreaming. "Don't worry sister. You will be my Maid of Honor." I said soft enough to not be overheard by the others.

She smiled at me. "It would be my honor Bella."

"I can't think of another person more worthy Janie. I love you, sister."

"I love you too Bella, and I will always be there for you." Jane said softly.

I smiled at her as we took a seat, because I needed some sister time and it seemed our daughters agreed, because they settled themselves inside of me again.
