"Hey, keep this a secret okay?" Mai seriously said as she glare at Naru. Her head was still leaning on his right shoulder.

"What? That you look ridiculous when you cry? Or that you smeared snots and all over my shirt?" Naru sarcastically asked while drying his shirt with Mai's clean handkerchief. His face is still the usual but Mai can feel his disgust while looking at his black couple shirt. Mai blushed and pinched his arm in embarrassment. Naru flinched but he didn't utter a sound in pain.

"What's the time?" Mai asked him since her phone is still with him. Naru took out the phone and opened it. It's the phone Masako gifted her last Christmas.

"Quarter to five." He answered before giving Mai her phone.

He doesn't like phones but he took it from her during the meeting to see the photos they took. Naru is pretty sure Mai can handle that couple so he let them handle it. But he also noticed that she broke down after the mention of her parents. He didn't know if it's because they were insulted but she reacted heavily after that. She did act coquettishly but her face shows how hurt she was.

"They had seen your face so I'm sure they'll investigate you. Especially when that woman took a liking of you. She was looking at you hungrily during the meeting you know?" Mai informed him with annoyance in her voice.

"That pervert is also looking at you." Naru informed her too but his tone is normal. They were both feeling annoyed whenever they think of that couple.

"Tsk. What a scum. But don't worry. They won't be able to bother you or investigate you since they'll be very busy after they returned to China." Mai said while sending a message to the butler and the lawyer. There is an uncanny smile pasted on her face and anyone would know she's planning evil.

Naru just hummed while nodding. He didn't mind Mai's mischievousness, in fact he find it cute. He knew Mai had already considered everything. Naru knew from the very beginning that Mai's intelligent in other areas. If not, he could just ask help from Lin and he would handle it. Mai took the bag and brought out the Black Jade box. Mai wasn't sure that Anthony Jiang would bring this but she was glad he did or else she would think of a way to get it again. Mai caressed the box before putting it into a special glass container.

"That was your purpose, right? You don't really care about the others." Naru suddenly said as he examine the box. It has no lock but it cannot opened. There are exquisite carvings around it and despite having black as the only colour, it was still beautiful. Naru didn't know why but he felt some familiarity with the black jade.

"This is one of my father's handmade crafts. Though he's a businessman like my mom, he's an artisan. As you can see, it was made of black jade. This box has a key but I'm still searching for it. Once I do, I will return it to its rightful place in England." Mai said to him with a smile on her face.

"Do you know where you could find it?" Naru asked but Mai shook her head.

"My father died when I was just five. And I didn't even know he made this craft until recently. And I'm thinking that my mother probably have this to that jerk because he's my fiance — former fiance now. As for the other craft, I don't know where did my father or mother put it. Even the butler, who knew about this craft, didn't know the other's location." Mai answered and carefully placed the glass in her backpack.

"As for these things, they're rare so maybe I'll auction them?" Mai raised an eyebrow and examine all the items in the bag. They're condition is okay so they can be sold.

"Never thought you're so into money. I'm confused as to why you're previously working part-time jobs and acting like a normal high school girl in poverty. Why did you even enter high school?" Naru said making Mai laugh.

"I need to avoid my relatives' eyes so I act like that. Besides, I can gather inside informations about the country by working. It's a bit inconvenient but useful."

"And what are those inside information?"

"Haha. Nothing! It's just to protect myself. Hehe." Mai answered nervously facing Naru's serious face. She can't possibly tell her that she's involved into something troublesome, can she?

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah! Don't worry!"

"Okay."

"The meeting's done so I'll just put all these things in my apartment. I'll send you back." Mai said to him as she gathered the bags from the ground. She turned to Naru just to see his hesitant cold face.

"What's wrong?" Mai asked him, making him snapped.

"Nothing. I'm just wondering if you will go to the night market this evening." He answered and now it's Mai's turn to freeze.

"H-how did you know I go to the night market?" Mai asked, flustered.

"I saw it in one of your photos."

"Oh.." Mai answered while scolding herself for thinking that Naru's a mind reader. They began to walk towards the train station as Mai thought of something.

"Do you want to come with me?" Naru turned to her after saying that sentence. He looked a bit confused but he returned to normal after a sew moments. Mai thought he'll refuse but she unexpectedly saw him nod.

"Eh?! You sure?!"

"Yes. I've never been in a night market before." Naru answered nonchalantly, making Mai happy.

"That's cool! Here, quickly give Lin a word! We'll be touring around all night so you better be prepared! I had a lot of things to show you!" Mai set aside her suspicions and immediately gave him her phone back.

Naru hummed and composed an email before sending it to Lin. He quickly erased the history after it was sent. She was so excited that she didn't noticed how she held unto Naru's arm. She dragged him after booking some tickets and quickly entered the train while telling him her adventures in her previous visit to the night market.

It didn't take long for them to reach Mai's apartment. Naru look at the building in front of him and assess his environment. It not as luxurious as the hotel he's currently living in but it's pretty decent. They entered the elevator and Mai pushed a button. A few minutes later, they arrived at a floor.

"I have lived here for less than 2 years now. My neighbors are kind and it safe for me to live here. Oh, were here." Mai paused as she entered her apartment's password.

The door opened with a click as they entered. Mai placed the bags beside the cabinets and immediately got a disposable slippers for Naru. Naru looked around and noticed how neat Mai's apartment is. The walls are painted with light blue but the curtains and tablecloths used are baby pink. It gives both the lonely and homely vibe.

'Ah. Yeah. I forgot that's she's living alone.'

"Come in. It's still five so the night market's not ready yet. We have four hours left before it get lively. Do you want some tea?" Mai went to the kitchen after seeing Naru's positive response.

Naru took advantage of this time and roam around Mai's apartment. It's not that wide but a person or two can still live here. There are two rooms and Naru want to know what her room looks like but he restrained himself. He knew he had no right to. A picture frame room his attention so he carefully examined it. Seeing Mai's small frame and pigtails, Naru assumed that it was taken maybe 8-10 years ago. She was holding a parasol and she was smiling at the camera. Her white teeth are seen and her frilly dress accentuate her cuteness.

Naru stared at the picture for a while before turning his head to look for other picture frames. It was all pictures of her and her friends. There are also pictures of the SPR on some frames. There are pictures of her, Bou-san, John and Ayako in an amusement park. They must have gone out when they had no cases. There is a picture of him and Lin but both of them are not looking at the camera. There is a picture of her and Masako too. Some were class photos with teachers. Naru walked around the place and saw a bookshelf beside windows. It was filled with books about business, politics and history.

Naru was a bit amazed. He never expected Mai to have books like this. Mai always acted like a normal teenage girls so he expected her to collect shoujo mangas or romance novels but he never saw one in her shelf. It's all about those serious stuffs. She came back with a tray and placed two fresh and steaming cup of tea on the table. Naru walked towards the couch and picked his cup right after sitting.

"So what should we do now to pass the time? Shall we watch a movie?" Mai asked, showing him the remote.

"Whatever. As long as it not some ridiculous entertainment."

"Horror then." Mai answered excitedly as she opened the TV.

She went to the cabinet below the TV and picked some DVDs. Naru just watched her and nodded when she showed a movie to him. He doesn't really care what movie it was as long as it distract them. Mai started the movie and went to the kitchen to refill their tea and get some snacks. But instead of popcorn which is usually eaten during movie marathons, she brought bite sized cookies and macaroons. So for four hours, they watched horror movies while having tea and pastries like they're watching an opera or some kind of show in an old theater.

Naru frowned while looking at the crowd. It's already nine in the evening but the whole place was liven up by music and so many lights. There are also stall lined up in a neat manner. Though, he was displeased by the crowd, he didn't regret coming here since he got to spend some time with Mai. Also, Mai's full attention is on him so he couldn't be more happy. The brunette keeps on introducing him products and foods along the way. Of course, they tried every food on every stall and bought some items.

They lined up to a stall but people are rushing in, separating them for a second. Naru subconsciously grabbed Mai's hand and gripped it tightly. He wanted to do this the moment they entered the night market. He thought she would let go but she just gave him an apologetic look and didn't do nothing to slap his hand away. They are still wearing the couple shirt and the cat ears so they definitely attract some attention. A kid even came to them and praised them as a couple.

"Big sister, this Big Brother look so pretty! I want to get a boyfriend like him when I grow up!"

The two of them didn't expect a kid to be roaming around this late at night. Mai was about to ask where her parents were when she noticed how her eyes are sparkling while looking up to Naru. Mai laughed it off and gave the kid a candy that she bought a while ago. Mai was planning to rebuke the kid but looking at their outfit, she knew no one's gonna believe her.

"Is that so? Then hurry up and grow up. I'm sure a pretty brother is awaiting for you too!" Mai smiled at her and rubbed her head.

"Hanako-chan! Come, we're going home!" A woman's voice came from afar, distracting the little girl. The kid turned her gaze back to Naru and Mai before smiling.

"Big brother, Big sister! I'm going now!"

"Bye!"

Mai was relieved that the kid had her guardian. She smiled when the woman held the kid's hand and slowly walk towards the exit. On the other side, Naru was satisfied when Mai didn't deny the kid's claim. He secretly smiled at the kid before withdrawing it a few seconds later. Naru tugged her hand and pointed to a stall near them. Mai smiled and went to look at the stall. Mai was amazed at how pretty the jewelries are when they reached the place. Brooches, rings, necklaces, jades, earrings and hair ornaments are there.

"What a pretty young couple! Are you on a date right now?" The old store owner friendly smiled at him and stood up from his seat to assist them. Mai and Naru didn't bother correcting him as they look at what he sell.

"I have matching jewelries here. Take your time to choose and tell me which one you like." He said as he showed them the sets he brought out from his cabinet. He went somewhere inside after they heard someone calling for her. The store owner didn't forget to smile at them apologetically before going.

"They're pretty. I shall buy some for Bou-san and the others!" Mai said as she inspect the items.

Naru scanned the jewelries and his eyes came to a stop after seeing something on the corner of the stall. His eyes laid on a traditional hair ornament. It was similar to the hair ornaments he saw from one of his visit to Lin's house. He didn't know if it was a Japanese or Chinese traditional hairpin but it was very beautiful and exquisite. The hairpin is made of silver while the beautiful bird on the stick's end are decorated with red and dark blue stones. It's a phoenix hairpin. Its wings are inlaid with red stones while its eyes was decorated with captivating blue stone. Naru look at Mai's hair while holding the hairpin in his hand.

''Yeah... so pretty..." Naru murmured under his breath as he look at the hairpin and Mai.

The brunette suddenly turned around to show him what she had picked for the others. But she didn't expect Naru to reach his hand to her head and held out the hairpin to her hair. After smirking, he placed the hairpin on her hands. Mai was immediately stunned at the sight of the phoenix hairpin. She suddenly remembered herself saying something to her best friend a few years back.

"... If someone gave me a phoenix hairpin, I will marry him!..."

"...But he mustn't know this is a requirement to marry me..."

Mai looked up to see if Naru know that promise but he looks normal and clueless. There is no hint of awareness and deception in his eyes. Thinking of that promise and Naru's face, her face suddenly flushed while looking up to Naru. Her lips moved but nothing came out from her mouth. Due to shock, she dazedly stared at him while thinking about the hairpin in her hands and her promise.

Naru saw her flustered face and was a bit confused why her face suddenly turned red. But seeing her adorable face, he put that confusion at the back of his head and admire the scene in front of him. He unconsciously leaned towards the girl to take a better look at her. He raised his right and caressed her soft brown hair until his fingertips gently touched her blushing cheek.

Naru could feel her breath on his face and her sweet scent tickling his nose. Mai's red lips look so alluring to his eyes and her light brown eyes, which reflected his face, are so pretty and enchanting. Naru didn't know what possessed him but his mouth unconsciously moved and told Mai the words he was so hesitant to tell.

"I like you."

Taking advantage of the romantic mood he had set, he closed his eyes and lean in closer. Pouring out all his affection to this girl, he kissed her.
