Day 26

Nyx and I made our way to the Crossroads early this morning and I finally received a hearthstone from the innkeeper. Or did I lose one before? It wouldn't surprise me, I've been a bit busy. I also bought more health and mana potions though it drained my funds to stupidly low levels.

Traveling with Nyx is pretty fun. She likes to dart around the road sniffing at things, like sign posts, my new axe which the quilboar had definitely stolen from the Horde considering the orcish design, damn near every single shrub in sight, and a wounded lion cub. I couldn't leave the little guy like that and I'm not heartless, so I bandaged him up before I carried him along with us. He was not happy but definitely too weak to do anything.

I took the chance to stop at a guard post and check the lion over again. The little guy wasn't even Nyx's size which made him way too young to be without his mother. At least he was old enough to eat meat and didn't want to fight my wolf over her share because I doubt his injuries would like it. It was obvious another cat or a raptor had gotten a swipe at his rear leg and left side before he escaped but the lack of angry mother attacking me meant things likely got nasty.

I decided to just take him to Far Watch with me and see if one of the hunters or the stablemaster will take care of him. I'm no Beastmaster and don't have the lifestyle or skills to support keeping him. We set off pretty quickly after our lunch because I'd taken the long way around rather than dragging Nyx through quilboar or crocolisk territory and I needed to report to Kargal Battlescar. No idea who was actually in charge but he ran the post and orders were orders.

When I finally reached Far Watch Post I was kind of shocked by the changes. It used to be a couple dozen guards in the burrow and tower to protect the route to Durotar but now hundreds of Horde warriors were camped around the post. We'd passed at least four patrols on our way from the Crossroads but I didn't expect to find so many troops here. I definitely could've gone without noticing the Warsong banners all over the place however, knowing you're in the midst of a bunch of battle maniacs is not a great feeling.

Morba was a sight for sore eyes, though he was busy attending to a battered Kargal when I reported in. Kargal himself barely bothered with the wounds it seemed because he was full of fury about an attack this morning. Honestly with some of the shit he was saying I am glad I'm not one of those sentries. Anyway our conversation went something like this.

I stood at attention as best as I could while holding the lion. "Scout Borgin reporting for duty. Sergra Darkthorn sends her greetings, sir."

"Deal with that cat and wolf, then report to Battlemaster Deathbringer. He's taken command of the warriors here." Kargal scowled down at the bandages covering his arm and chest briefly before looking back at me. "And if you see any of those sentries slacking off, punch them for me. I don't care what clan they are."

"Yes, sir!" I saluted and made my escape after giving Morba a nod. Judging by the tilt of his horned head I made a quick left.

I found Jina not too far from the burrow among a mass of tents for the wounded. She wasn't looking great either as she had several bandages around her stomach and she was staring a hole into the ground. The utter lack of Kenny nearby worried me.

"Warlock bastard killed Kenny," Jina bit out when I approached her. "Took his soul."

"The quilboar have warlocks?" That was scary shit to fight. "What happened?"

"Two at least." Jina grumbled and waved away my silent offer of a health potion. "Was ambushed guardin' some peons at the edge of camp. Quilboar snuck right in. It was bad. The warlock escaped."

I gently put the lion cub down beside the injured troll, grinning at the look she gave it while Nyx sat at my heel. "This little guy is off to a rough start. He needs some time that I can't give." The cub pawed softly at the leg beside him. "Seems like you can spend a bit of downtime, yeah?"

"Seems like it, mon. Leave your wolf here." The quiet look and tender care she was showing towards the cub then as she ran a finger over his head seemed to be my cue so I left with a quiet goodbye to Nyx.

Battlemaster Deathbringer wasn't hard to find. His plate armor is amazing and he carried a massive red axe while yelling out orders in the middle of the encampment. I made myself known to him and was swiftly assigned to an older orc named Iskar and sent away.

Iskar brought me to another group of warriors and informed me that we were leaving at first light. So now I sit here writing. I'd best get to sleep, I've done a lot of walking.

AN: I was just goofing around with the cub but I couldn't resist an easy reference like that. The bastards! I also cut Jina's dialogue short when I realized I couldn't do the accent at all.
