Emily stood with her back against the wall as overlooked the party in front of her. As usual, Noel Kahn's party was the biggest one of the year. The Kahn house was packed with teenagers holding red solo cups filled with their alcoholic beverage of choice. She watched a few of her teammates play beer pong at a table while most of her classmates stood in groups, talking and laughing the night away.
She always enjoyed parties. There was something about them that made her feel different, invincible almost. She took a sip out of her cup when she felt a pair of hands suddenly pawing at her waist.
"Hey, baby." A blonde slid up beside of her, leaning forward to press drunken kisses along her neck.
"Samara, we're in public," Emily warned, putting her hands on Samara's waist to gently create distance between the two. Public displays of affection didn't bother Emily, but having her girlfriend sucking on her neck in the middle of a party wasn't her idea of an appropriate display.
Samara pushed Emily's hands away to move her lips up Emily's neck to her chin, "mm, I know." Emily pulled her head away from Samara's lips and cocked her head to the side, her eyes playfully narrowing at her girlfriend, "but obviously you don't understand."
Samara sighed as she pouted, "you're no fun."
"And you're having too much fun, how much have you drank tonight?" Emily asked, noticing how Samara only gets this touchy in public while she's drunk.
"Not as much as you think I have, but that's not important right now. What's important is me focusing on getting on top of my girlfriend," Samara purred in Emily's ear, leaning against the brunette's body.
"Hey, Em!"
Emily whipped her eyes from Samara to see Aria, Hanna, and Spencer walking up to the couple.
"Samara, you're giving us a free show I see," Hanna grinned, her eyebrows wiggling at the two in front of her. "Keep going and you're going to make me turn this into a threesome."
"Something tells me you'd love that," Emily playfully rolled her eyes. "Only if I'm the center of attention for you both," Hanna winked.
Samara laughed and pushed herself off Emily, "I'll let you guys hang. Don't miss me too much.. or do and come find me." The blonde kissed Emily once more before turning to disappear in the crowd.
"So how long will it be until you break up with this one?" Spencer bluntly asked when Samara is out of sight. Emily nearly rolled her eyes in response, "Spence, don't start. You make me out to be a womanizer or something."
Spencer, Aria, and Hanna all three shot Emily a pointed look, making the brunette cross her arms.
Spencer didn't back down to her friend. She never did. It was in her bloodline to not flinch at conflict. "You need to stop dating all of these girls. It's hard to keep up with. You're going around breaking hearts like Ali—,"
"Don't," Emily cut.
"Em, don't you think Spencer is right? You need to take care of yourself first before throwing yourself at someone else," Aria frowned. "I'm fine," Emily replied, hoping her friends would drop it.
Emily had been doing this for three months now. She would find a girl, speed date her within a week, and after about another week, maybe two if the girl was lucky, she would drop her poor victim and move on to the next one within a matter of days, sometimes even hours.
It wasn't that Emily was a cold-hearted heartbreaker, she just didn't feel anything for anyone else. Not anymore. Not after Alison.
Alison was one of her best friends and also the only girl in the world who had ever truly had her heart. But Alison played too many mental games with Emily, and one night after Alison publicly stated that she only kissed girls when she was drunk for "practice" for the real thing, it became too much for Emily to handle.
Since their first kiss, Alison had only kissed Emily while the blonde was drunk. Alison would find a way to isolate the two girls in empty rooms, flirtatiously whispering in Emily's ear and touching the brunette until their lips connected time after time again. One night Emily had stayed at Alison's house after a party and the blonde had allowed for Emily's hands to travel up her shirt and fondle her breasts as their lips locked, only breaking apart to kiss each others necks and shoulders.
This game had been going on for two years. It was the most bitter torture but sweet pleasure Emily had experience. To have Alison but not really have her. She was wrapped around Alison's finger like a band-aid, and the blonde knew it. Alison had the power to do that to someone.
But it had gotten to a point that Emily couldn't handle the games anymore. One day Alison had her body pressed against the brunette, her lips hard against Emily's and her tongue roaming the inside of her mouth, and the next she was flirting with the captain of the football team in class, twirling her blonde hair around her manicured fingers. It was exhausting.
"You are not fine." Aria looked at Emily with the softest eyes that would have comforted Emily if she didn't feel it was a look of such sympathy, "fine was when you dropped your ice cream on the sidewalk this summer after walking two miles to go get it, and you were upset but shrugged it off. This is heartbreak, Em."
"Two miles? That sounds like heartbreak to me," Hanna mumbled. Spencer eyed Hanna and shot her eyes back to Emily, "Aria's right. You aren't fine. Even Toby thinks your girlfriend streak is getting a little out of hand."
"Great, even my wingman is betraying me now," Emily grumbled. "Just talk to her," Spencer started, "both of you are stressing me out. It's been awful trying to arrange plans around the two of you because you refuse to be around her."
"We love you both and we miss all being together," Aria added. Emily pushed herself off the wall, "I don't want anything to do with her. You guys can be friends with her all you want, but I'm not."
Emily brushed past her friends before giving them a chance to reply. Three watched her disappear behind a group before Hanna rolled her eyes, "see, this is why you shouldn't fuck your friends."
Emily flipped over the final cup in flip cup, winning the game for her team. She was rewarded with multiple high-fives from her teammates and a kiss from her girlfriend.
"You are a legend," Samara grinned, wrapping her arms around of Emily's waist. Emily tossed her dark hair over her shoulder, "I like the sound of that." Samara leaned forward to press another kiss to her girlfriends lips when Emily felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Are you guys going to bang out here, Fields? Let me know so I can start taking payments for the show," Noel laughed.
"You'd probably like that, wouldn't you?"
Noel shrugged with a grin, "not going to say that I wouldn't."
Emily chuckled and released herself from Samara's grip, "I'm going to go to the bathroom." A smirk pulled on the corner of Samara's lips, "mm, let me come with you." Emily left Samara's finger grab onto the belt loop on her jeans. "We can go together."
Emily pried her girlfriends intruding fingers from her waist, "this is a strictly business bathroom trip."
"Please?"
Emily smiled at the blonde and leaned into Samara's ear, "later." With that, Samara leaned back and became distracted at the starting game of flip cup.
Emily made her way through the body of people as she headed to the bathroom. When she got inside she shut the door behind of her and leaned against the counter to take a breath. She didn't really have to use the bathroom, she just needed an excuse to dismiss herself from Samara. Ever since her friends had talked to her about being single, the thought of breaking up with Samara ran through her mind. But she couldn't bring herself to break up with Samara right now. Not in public at a party. They were right, she was still caught up on Alison. She was making her rounds through multiple women just to feel something other than the loss of the only girl she had ever loved.
Emily ran cold water on her hands and wiped them dry with a towel hanging beside the sink. It was refreshing and calming to feel the cold on her. It almost reminded her of swimming.
Before she could turn around to open the door, a blonde barged in, bumping into Emily who was on her way out.
"Sorry, I—,"
The blonde started, but quickly stopped once she looked up to realize who she had ran into. Emily's heart dropped, she hadn't been this close to the blonde in months.
"Sorry," Alison restated, her blue eyes wide and as crystal as Emily always remembered. Emily cleared her throat, "yeah, no problem." The brunette took two steps to leave when Alison grabbed her hand and pulled her back, "Emily."
"I can't do this right now, Alison," Emily replied, turning her head back to Alison. The blonde took a step and reached behind of Emily to lock the bathroom door. Being that close to Alison made Emily's breath hitch, and Emily knew she was probably doing a horrible job at hiding it.
"Just talk to me," Alison pleaded, stepping back from Emily so that she could get a better look of the girl standing in front of her.
Emily stayed leaned against the bathroom door. She felt paralyzed being that close to Alison again, "there's nothing to talk about." Alison groaned in response, "there is everything to talk about."
Emily crossed her arms and stood straight, "what do you want, Ali?"
When Alison turned towards the mirror to wash her hands, Emily couldn't stop her eyes from roaming Alison's body in her dress and heels. It almost physically pained the brunette with how beautiful the blonde was.
Alison turned back to face Emily, catching the brunette's wondering eyes. Her signature smirk surfaced on her lips, "apparently the same thing you do." Emily rolled her eyes and stayed still on the door, "you are so vain."
"So me catching you checking me out is me being vain?" Alison questioned, raising her eyebrow. "Why do you think I was checking you out? I could have just been admiring the dress," Emily defensively replied. She knew it sounded ridiclious the moment it left her lips but Emily was never one to be sharp tongued, especially when it came to Alison.
Alison chuckled, "admiring what it would look like on the floor."
"God, you are so full of yourself."
"Oh, please, Emily. You know that you are still are attracted to me," Alison stated. Emily could tell that Alison knew what she was saying was true. When Alison knew she had the upper-hand there was a spark in her eyes that shined with mischievous.. and it drove Emily crazy in the best ways.
"That doesn't mean I want you," Emily fired back, trying her best to sound as confident as she possibly could muster, "I have a girlfriend."
"Doesn't mean you want her," Alison smirked, stepping closer to the blonde. Emily's body stiffened as Alison was now only in arms reach of her again. The scent of Alison alone made Emily's heart beat twice as fast in her chest. Alison's blue eyes playfully shined, "I've missed you."
Alison took another step closer and Emily held her breath, "Alison—,"
"Just say that you've missed me too," the blonde purred, reaching out to wrap her arms around Emily's neck. Her body felt on fire under the blonde's touch. She was filled with lust, desire, and love. Alison was right, Emily did miss her. She missed everything about the blonde.
"I wouldn't do anything you wouldn't want me to do," Alison whispered, leaning forward to press her body on Emily's. Emily looked down at Alison's pink heart-shaped lips. She was so teasing, and beautiful, and right there.
"How do you do this to me?" Emily softly replied, bringing her hands to Alison's hips. The smirk that Emily had fell in love with years ago fell on Alison's lips again, "shh, just kiss me."
Emily leaned in to meet Alison's lips, pouring the ache of missing the blonde over the last three months into the kiss. Alison closed her eyes and tightened her grip around Emily's neck, pressing Emily harder against the door. The taste of Alison made Emily lightheaded.
Alison's hands traveled up to tangle in Emily's dark strands. Oh how she had missed the feeling of Emily against her.
Emily moved her lips with Alison's and they melted together like they were made for each other. And that's how Emily felt, like Alison was exactly where she needed to be.
Alison felt Emily's hands grip her hips tighter, making the blonde moan softly into Emily's mouth. The whimper and vibration made Emily's knees go weak as her lips pressed against Alison's, not daring to pull away.
This is what Emily had been looking for the past three months. This connection. This natural, powerful force. But no other girl had come close to providing not even half of what Alison gave her. Alison was truly personal drug to Emily.
Emily's fingers pulled Alison's dress impossibly closer to the brunette and all Emily could think was how to get the fabric off of the blonde. When Emily began to lift Alison's dress, Alison pulled back from Emily's lips, leaving the brunette disheveled. Emily opened her eyes frantically to find her favorite pair of eyes looking back at her, "what's wrong?"
"You aren't single," Alison replied, loosing her arms that were wrapped around Emily's neck. "I want this with you, Em, but-,"
Emily leaned forward to plant a kiss on Alison's lips, "hold that thought." She pulled out her phone from the back pocket of her jeans. She knew this wasn't right and that it was a horrible thing to do over text, but with having Alison in her arms with her lips and body pressed against her, she felt right. Anything with Alison just felt so right.
Emily slid her phone back in her pocket after sending the message. The break-up text was sent.
The brunette pulled Alison back tightly against her body, "now, just kiss me."
