A/N: This thread is kind of a companion to my thread James, Lily, and Brother-Sister Fluff. While that thread is more about the sibling relationships, this one is more about parent-child relationships.
It was Monday, August 31st, 2015, the day before James Sirius Potter was to start at Hogwarts and Harry had taken James to Madam Makin's to buy his school robes.
"Ah, Mr. Potter, " said Madam Malkin as they walked in, "My how the years go by. it seems only yesterday that you were in here being fitted for your first Hogwarts robes. Now you come as a father bringing a child of your own."
"He's my oldest of three, " explained Harry, "So I'll be back in a couple of years and a couple of years after that."
"And what is your name, young man?" Madam Malkin asked James politely.
"James Sirius Potter, " said James proudly, "Dad named me after his own dad and his godfather."
"That's wonderful, " said Madam Malkin, "Now let's find some Hogwarts robes for you."
So, James stepped on the nearest footstool with Harry by his side as Madam Malkin went to retrieve Hogwarts robes for James to fit.
"How are you feeling, James?" asked Harry kindly.
"Excited!" replied James eagerly, "I'm really looking forward to going to Hogwarts tomorrow and getting my uniform is going to be one of those moments that makes it feel more real."
"I know how much you've been looking forward to going to Hogwarts and I'm excited for you to have this opportunity even if I will miss you at home, " said Harry.
"Thanks, dad," smiled James.
When Madam Malkin returned, the first robes she fitted James with were clearly too big for him, to the point he could barely keep them on.
Harry couldn't help but giggle a bit at how comical the too big robes looked on James.
James, who had a good sense of humor, did not mind dad having a laugh at his expense.
"I've heard of loose-fitting clothing, but the robes have to be able to stay me, " smirked James.
"Indeed, they do, " said Madam Malkin in a more serious voice.
So, she had James try on a set of much smaller Hogwarts robes, but they were so small he couldn't even get them on.
"I overcorrected, " said Madam Malkin wryly, "All the same, let's get you the right match."
Next nanosecond, Madam Malkin fitted James with a pair of Hogwarts robes that were so perfect that James screamed out, "That's it! this is perfect! These are my robes!"
And both Harry and James had a few tears sliding down their cheeks.
"It seems only yesterday you were just learning to walk and talk, " Harry told James, "I can't believe how the years have gone by and how grown up you already are. But this is one the proudest moments of my life. To actually see my son wearing his real Hogwarts robes is an emotional rite of passage for me as a father that I can't fully articulate, but it just means so much to me."
"It means the world to me too, " said James sincerely, "I've got goosebumps realizing that I'm wearing real Hogwarts robes and that I'm actually starting tomorrow. To think I've actually made it this point. This is a beautiful moment for me."
"HARRY!" cried a female voice from behind.
It was Molly Weasley, who had just entered Madam Malkin's.
"Mrs. Weasley!?" cried Harry.
"Yes, Harry dear, it's me. Long time. No see. Is that your son in the new Hogwarts robes there?"
"Yes, " said Harry proudly, "His name is James Sirius Potter. I named him after my own dad and my godfather."
"That's sweet, " cooed Mrs. Weasley.
"James, " said Harry warmly, pointing to Molly, "This is Molly Weasley. Mrs. Weasley, this is my son James Sirius Potter."
James and Molly exchanged a handshake and James said politely, "It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Weasley."
"It's nice to meet you too, James, " said Molly brightly.
Turning to Harry, Molly asked, "Harry, do you have any more children or is James it?"
"I have three children and James is the eldest, " explained Harry, "I have another son who is two years younger named Albus Severus Potter and a daughter two years younger still named Lily Luna Potter."
"Congratulations, Harry, " said Molly genuinely, "I'm sure you're a great dad."
"He is, " said James supportively.
"This has to be such a proud moment for both of you, " smiled Molly.
"It is, " said Harry and James together.
"Well, we have more shopping to do, " said Harry to Mrs. Weasley, "But it was nice to see you again after all these years."
"Same, " said Molly, "And good luck to James."
Harry and James smiled back at Molly as they prepared to leave Madam Malkin's.
Harry and James exited Madam Malkin's with James proudly sporting his new Hogwarts robes feeling as happy as he ever had. Harry was as full of pride as any parent could be at seeing his son in his Hogwarts robes.
"This is really happening" said James breathlessly.
"It's really happening, " smiled Harry.
