Tony Smashes a wall with a sledge hammer a few times, he drops it.
"Okay but honestly, that looks fun." Peter said.
He uses a jackhammer to uncover a panel of electric switches, he takes the door off and attaches some wires. He uses the jackhammer again to make a hole in the ceiling, hr throws the wires through the hole. He wheels some crates and opens them, he lifts a metal tube and attaches it to the wall. Some time later all of the tubes are connected, resting on piles of random objects.
"You built a particle accelerator in your basement?" Bruce asked.
Coulson puts in a code and enters the lab and says he heard Tony broke perimeter.
Tony jokes that it was 3 years ago and asks where Coulson's been.
Coulson says he was doing stuff.
"Wow, 10/10 explanation." Shuri said.
Tony says that he has too and that he's playing for the home team and calls them 'fabulous furry freak brothers.'
"Uh, rude."
Tony asks if Coulson's going to let him work or if he's there to break his balls.
Coulson walks toward a box and pulls out something that looks like Captain America's shield and asks why its there.
"Once a fanboy, always a fanboy." Natasha said.
Tony looks at him to see what he's talking about and sets down the thing he's holding and asks Coulson to bring it to him.
Coulson asks if he knows what it is.
"Of course I know what it is, Agent." Tony said.
Tony says that its what he needs to make his system work. He takes the shield and tells Coulson to lift the coil so he can slide it underneath. Tony grabs a level and sets it on the coil and says its perfectly level before asking Coulson what he wants.
Coulson says that Fury's sending him to New Mexico.
Clint and Coulson subtly looked to Thor.
Tony says its fantastic and calls it the 'land of enchantment.' Then he asks Coulson if he's doing secret stuff there.
Coulson confirms and wishes Tony luck.
Tony thanks him.
Coulson says they need him.
Tony says they need him more than they know.
Coulson tells him they don't need him that much.
"Debatable." Tony said.
The lights in the lab are turned off. Tony is wearing glasses and has a wrench. He puts a prism in the particle accelerator and rotates it. He sticks a key into it something and turns it on, the lights start dimming more. Tony takes his shirt off.
"Was that strictly necessary?" Rhodey asked.
JARVIS says that he's initializing the prismatic accelerator. Tony tries to turn the wheel with his hands. JARVIS says they're approaching maximum power. The wheel won't move, it starts shaking. He grabs the wrench and uses it to turn the wheel.
The laser starts burning things in its path, cutting a large metal container in half before it reaches the small triangle, the triangle starts to glow blue, Tony turns off the machine and says that that was easy.
"How was that easy?" Quill asked.
He ducks under the coils and walks toward the glowing object, he tosses his glasses on the table and sits down. He uses a pair of pliers to lift the triangle. JARVIS congratulates him on creating the new element.
Howard gave onscreen Tony a fond look, then turned his head to real Tony and gave the same look.
'Maybe not all Americans are stupid, most are, but there are a few smart ones.' Shuri thought.
Tony puts the new element into an arc reactor. JARVIS says that the reactor has accepted the core and he'll begin running diagnostics.
"I do wish you would have let me finish the tests." Vision said.
"Do I know you, I feel like I know you." Tony asked, a few people nodded in agreement.
"Oh, you do actually, you just don't meet me for a few years." Vision responded.
Ivan is building his own arc reactor. He's talking on the phone with Hammer, who's golfing Hammer says he's with senator Stern and that they were going to take a look at the drone designs.
Ivan says they aren't ready.
Hammer asks what he means.
Ivan says he can present them but he can't demonstrate them.
Hammer asks for the difference.
"Presentation means they wont do anything, demonstration means that they will do stuff." MJ said. "To put it simply."
Ivan says that they wont fly or shoot.
"But they did both of those things." Rhodey said.
Hammer asks what they can do because its a weapons demonstration.
Ivan says he can make them salute.
Hammer asks what he means.
"Does he not know what a salute is, he works almost directly with the army how does he not know?" Sam asked.
"Well... he isn't very smart." Happy said.
Hammer says that thats not what they agreed to and that Ivan promised him suits and then he promised him drones.
Ivan has remade his lightning whips.
"Oh no."
Justin and two men in suits are walking through a lab, they walk into the room where Ivan is. He is sitting with a bird. Hammer says he's confused because Ivan said it wasn't his bird but he likes it now. Then he tells one of his men to take the bird. A man grabs the bird and puts it in a sack.
"Okay that is just wrong." Scott said.
Hammer says to also take his pillows and his shoes. The men take them. Hammer asks if Ivan feels bad and says that that's good because its how he feels. He reminds Ivan that they had a contract and that he saved his life and Ivan gives him suits. And says that he doesn't know if Ivan id a genius of a fraud.
"I hate to say it but the guy is a genius." Tony said, a few people made noises of agreement.
Hammer says that something good fell into his lap and if it didn't he'd be at Ivan's mercy. He says that he has a piece of Stark tech that he 'pimped out.' and says that Ivan's drones are going to be a backdrop to the demonstration.
Ivan says something in Russian.
Hammer says he doesn't speak Russian.
"He knows that, that's why he's using it." Natasha said.
Hammer says he's going to go to the Expo and he might even get laid.
"That's wishful thinking." Bucky said.
"I'm gonna be the one to say it but that guy has a very punch-able face." Hope said.
Hammer points to the other in the room and says that they're Ivan's babysitters and that when he returns they're going to rehash the terms of their agreement and Ivan's going to make good on their arrangement and if he doesn't he's going to be a dead man.
"I feel like this guy is just full of empty threats." Clint commented.
Tony is sitting on a chair in his lab and tells Dummy to clean up the mess. JARVIS says its from a blocked number.
Tony says hi phone privileges are reinstated and answers the phone and asks Coulson how the land of enchantment.
"Why did you think it was me?" Coulson asked.
Ivan asks Tony hoe he's doing and says he is doubling the cycle.
Tony questions him.
Ivan reminds him that he says double cycle is more power then he says it was good advice.
"And that is why we don't give evil people advice, even if they're in jail." Pepper said.
Tony says Ivan sounds good for a dead man. Ivan says he does too.
"Oh?"
Tony mutes his microphone and tells JARVIS to trace the call.
Ivan says that the true history of the Stark name would be written.
Tony asks JARVIS where he is.
JARVIS says he's accessing the Oracle grid and traces the call to the eastern seaboard and a map appears on a computer screen.
Ivan says he would do to Tony what Howard did to Anton.
"Good thing he didn't get too right?" Rhodey asked.
Tony says it sounds good and they should hash it out.
JARVIS traces the call to the tri-state area then to boroughs outside Manhattan.
Ivan says he hopes Tony's ready, then hangs up.
JARVIS says the call trace is not complete.
"Damn it."
Tony looks around and sees an advertisement for Justin's demonstration at the Expo, he then looks over at the arc reactor, and aggressively slams it into his chest. JARVIS protests.
Tony tells JARVIS to run his tests and assemble the suit.
JARVIS says the effects of the reactor aren't clear.
Tony says he doesn't want to hear it. The reactor gains power and Tony says that it tastes like coconut and metal.
"You can... taste that?" Drax asked.
"That is exactly what I imagine Vibranium tastes like." Shuri said.
The scene switches to the Expo. Happy, Natasha and Pepper get out of a car. Happy tells them that he'll keep the car down there. Pepper thanks him and walks into the building with Natasha.
An announcer says Hammer's presentation will begin soon in the main pavilion.
Justin does a little dance as he gets on stage.
People laughed at him.
Hammer thanks them for coming. And begins his speech he says that the men and women of the country have been put in harms way for too long and then Iron Man arrived and they all thought that those days were behind them. Hammer says that the technology was kept out of their reach and that it wasn't fair.
"It is fair and it is right, seeing as what might happen if that technology gets in the wrong hands." Rhodey said.
"He sounds like a whiney little bitch." MJ said.
He says that it was an impressive innovation and the press garbled over it. He says that the press is faced with the problem that they're running out of ink. He presents the new face of the United States military and calls it the Hammer Drone. Groups of drones appear on stage. Hammer comments about his presentation being better than Tony's cheerleaders.
"I think, just this once, I'd prefer the cheerleaders." Pepper sighed.
"I agree." Natasha said.
Hammer says that no matter how revolutionary the technology is there will always a need for man in war. He introduces Rhodey and says that he is piloting the first variable Threat Response suit prototype.
Rhodey sighed.
Rhodey salutes, the drones on stage copy him. Hammer tries to finish his speech but Tony flies in and lands in front of Rhodey and tells him that they have trouble.
Rhodey tells him that there are civilians present and he's there on orders and they shouldn't do this now.
Tony walks over to him and tells him that the civilians are in danger and they need to get them out and he tells Rhodey to trust him for the next few minutes.
Rhodey says he tried trusting him but he got thrown around his house.
"Oof." Shuri said.
Tony says he thinks Hammer is working with Ivan.
Rhodey asks if Ivan's alive.
Tony walks up to Hammer and asks where Ivan is.
Hammer tries to play dumb.
"Oh don't play dumb now, its too late for that." Clint said.
Hammer asks Tony what he's doing there.
Rhodey's gun gets aimed at Tony. Tony asks if its him that's doing that.
Rhodey says it isn't and that he has target lock and can't move and tells him to leave because the system's been compromised.
Tony flies away and says to take it outside. He flies through the roof, the drones and Rhodey start shooting, the glass from the roof starts breaking and falling.
"This isn't good."
Rhodey starts to fly the drones follow. Tony tells JARVIS that he needs control on Rhodey's suit back.
Rhodey says he has target lock and he follows Tony and the drones are follow him.
Tony asks what he has target lock on.
"What do you think?" Almost everyone in the room asked.
Rhodey says he has target lock on him and tells Tony he's on his six. They fly by a building, Rhodey shoots out all the glass as he flies by.
The drones that are still on stage start to walk off and out of the building. Hammer walks backstage and asks what's happening. One of the techs says that the software's been overridden. Hammer asks what he means.
"He doesn't understand anything does he?" Shuri asked.
The tech says that Ivan slaved the drones.
Hammer says its impossible.
"It really isn't, your tech sucks." Rocket said.
Hemmer says to call the guards.
Jack tells him that the phones are done.
Hammer says to call their cells.
"Idiot."
Jack says that those aren't working either.
The tech says that that Ivan locked them out of the mainframe.
"Of course he did." Bruce said.
Pepper walks in with Natasha and asks who locked them out of the mainframe. Hammer asks her to go away and he has the situation handled.
"I am groot."
"You're right, he doesn't." Quill said.
Pepper questions him.
Hammer says he has it handled and if Tony never showed up none of this would've happened and tells Pepper to go away.
"Sure blame me." Tony said.
He turns to the tech and says they need to get Pepper and Natasha out of there and calls them bitches.
"That was unnecessary." Maria said.
Natasha grabs him and slams him onto the table and tells him to tell her who's behind this.
Hammer says Ivan is.
Natasha asks where he is.
Hammer says he's at the facility. Natasha lets him go and walks away.
Pepper calls the police. Justin walks over to her and tells her not to.
Pepper ignores him and tells the tech to tell her everything he knows.
"Scary."
Tony is still being chased by Rhodey and the drones, Rhodey continues shooting at him. Tony asks JARVIS how they're doing with the suit.
JARVIS says the reboot was unsuccessful.
"Shit."
The drones that were onstage make their way out of the building, they start firing. Ivan watches this from his room, a small smile on his face.
"Psychopath." Ned whispered.
Natasha walks out of the building. Happy asks her what's happening.
Natasha tells him to get in the car and take her to Hammer Industries, when he doesn't she asks if he wants her to drive.
Happy says he's driving and tells her to get in the car.
"Fragile masculinity." Natasha coughed.
They get in the car and drive away. The drones are still shooting and people are screaming and running. They lock themselves onto the stairs and aim at Tony and start shooting, he doges and they end up shooting the drones following him. Other drones start shooting at the building. The kid from earlier, with the Iron Man helmet is targeted.
"Not the child." Bruce said.
The kid raises his hand, Tony lands beside him and shoots the drone and says the kid did nice work then flies away.
Rhodey says Tony has more drones following him.
Tony says they should take it away from the Expo.
"That's probably a good idea." Quill said.
Happy is driving with Natasha in the backseat, she takes her hair down. Natasha says that when they get there he'll have to watch the perimeter and she's going to go in and take down Ivan. She starts getting undressed, Happy looks in the mirror at her she tells him to watch the road.
"Happy." Tony sighed.
Tony flies over a road, then under a bridge, the drones are still following him. He flies over some parked cars, a few alarms go off, the drones fly over the cars and more alarms go off. The drones start shooting. Rhodey says that a group is headed back to the Expo.
"Dammit!"
Rhodey says that he's closing in on Tony and tells him to watch out he starts shooting, destroying a bunch of cars.
Happy pulls up outside Hammer industries, him and Natasha gets out and tells him to stay in the car.
Happy says he wont, asks Natasha what she's wearing and says he won't let her go in alone.
"Not the time to try and be a gentleman." Natasha said.
Natasha says that if he wants to help he should keep the car running. Happy opens the door and they walk in.
The security guard tells them that they can't be there. Happy punches him in the face.
"Nice." Rhodey said.
Natasha walks past, she throws something and a guard gets electrocuted. Happy is now getting beat up by a security guard.
"Poor Happy." Pepper mumbled.
Natasha jumps and knocks another guard out, she slides underneath another and kicks him in his area, another guard comes in Natasha swings her legs around his neck and knocks him out.
"Remind me not to cross you." Scott said.
Drones are still flying around the Expo, one crashes into a building.
Ivan deploys another set of drones from the stage. The tech says that the drones are communicating in their own unique language.
Pepper says to choose one and focus on it.
Hammer asks if they've tried Russian.
"That's not how that works." Tony said.
Happy is still fighting the guard. Natasha throws something at two more guards and knocks their legs out from underneath them. She fights three more guards. She takes down two more and Pepper sprays the last one. Happy finally takes his guard out.
"Good for you Happy." Natasha smiles.
Ivan pulls up specs for a suit.
"Oh boy."
Tony is still being chased by drones he asks Rhodey if he's still locked on.
Rhodey says he is.
Tony tells him to drop his socks and grab his crocks because they're about to get wet.
"What?"
Tony flies through a large globe, the drones follow hitting different parts of it, they explode. Natasha opens the door to Ivan's room, guns drawn, Happy is behind her. Natasha says that Ivan's gone and lowers her guns.
Tony apologizes to Rhodey and says that he needed to thin out the herd. Rhodey crashes into him, they fall into the bio-dome.
Natasha does something on a computer. Happy asks what she's doing. She says she's rebooting Rhodey's suit.
"Oh, good."
Rhodey and Tony start fighting each other. Rhodey starts shooting. Rhodey's suit powers down, he's lying on the floor. Tony stands up. Natasha says he's got his best friend back.
Tony thanks her.
Natasha compliments his chest piece and says his vitals look promising.
Tony says he isn't dying at the moment. Video of Pepper appears on the screen.
"Here we go." Gamora said.
"She's about to let him have it." Hope said.
Pepper asks if he just said he was dying.
Tony says that he isn't dying anymore.
Pepper asks what's happening.
Tony says he was going to tell her but he didn't want to alarm her.
"I feel like if you didn't have the new element and just died, she would have been more alarmed." Bucky said.
Pepper asks if he was really going to tell her.
Tony says she didn't let him.
Pepper asks why he never told her.
Tony says he was going to make her an omelet and tell her.
Natasha tells them to save the argument for the honeymoon.
"Even Natasha thinks you two fight like a married couple." Rhodey laughed.
Natasha tells Tony that he has incoming and that the fight is coming to him.
Pepper asks Tony if he's okay now.
Tony says he's fine and tells her not to be mad.
Pepper says she's mad.
"Maybe save this conversation to a time where he's not fighting an army of robots." Ned said.
Tony says he'll apologize when he isn't fighting an army of Hammer drones and that they could've been in Venice.
"And if we did go to Venice, Fury wouldn't have given you what you needed to fix the arc reactor and you would have died and never told me that something was wrong." Pepper said.
Tony knocks on Rhodey's helmet and says he needs him because the drones are coming.
Rhodey's face-plate lifts he tells Tony that he can have his suit back.
Tony helps him up and asks if he's okay.
Rhodey says he is and apologizes.
Tony says he doesn't need to.
Rhodey says that he should have trusted Tony more.
"I probably should have." Rhodey said to himself.
Tony tells him to forget it because he was the one who put Rhodey in that position.
Rhodey agrees that it was Tony's fault but he's still going to apologize.
Tony thanks him and says that the drones are coming in hot and asks Rhodey what the plan is.
Rhodey says they should get the high ground and that they should put the biggest gun the highest. They both start walking in the same direction.
"Well this is awkward." Quill said.
Rhodey says that he meant himself when he said 'big gun.'
Tony says that Rhodey has a big gun but he isn't the bug gun.
"He's not exactly wrong, not right, but also not wrong." Rocket said.
Rhodey tells him not to be jealous.
Tony says that the bells and whistles are subtle.
Rhodey says its called being a badass.
"I'd say showoff but-" Thor said.
Tony tells Rhodey to go up and he'll draw the drones in.
Rhodey tells him not to stay low because its the worst place to be.
Tony asks where he should go.
Rhodey says that he's in the 'kill-box' and that this is where he dies. Drones start dropping down.
"Wasted time arguing and now you're both in the kill box." Peggy said.
They put their face-plates down and start fighting. Tony jumps up and hits one on the head and throws others out of the way. Rhodey shoots one to bits. Tony continues punching them. Tony dodges a missile and shoots one of his own instead, taking out three of the drones. Tony asks if Rhodey saw his cool move.
Rhodey compliments the move.
Everyone rolled their eyes.
They continue fighting the drones. Tony tells him to get down. Rhodey ducks, tony uses lasers to slice the drones in half as well as some trees.
"Nice."
Rhodey tells him that he should lead with those next time.
Tony tells him its a one-off.
Back at the Expo 3 cops arrive backstage. Pepper says Hammer is their guy.
The cops arrest him. Hammer says that he's trying to help them and that Pepper is trying to make the whole thing seem like it was his fault.
"You're the one that caused this!" Everyone shouted.
Hammer says that Pepper is starting to think like a CEO by taking out the competition.
"No, I had you arrested because you were 1. harboring a criminal and 2. harming civilians." Pepper said.
Hammer says that he's going to make a problem for her and she'll be seeing him soon.
"Again with the empty threats." Clint said.
Pepper walks out of the building with 3 cops and tells them that they should go to the the south, east and both west exits.
One of the cops says that they already shit the train down.
Pepper says to get buses to get people out.
A cop asks if she's coming with them.
Pepper says she's going to stay until the park is clear.
"No offence, but that is a terrible idea." Maria said.
Natasha says that their next incoming's repuslor signature is significantly higher than the rest. Ivan lands across from Rhodey and Tony, he has a suit now.
"Oh shit."
Ivan says that its good to be back and he takes out his lightning whips. Rhodey says that he's going to use the Ex Wife on him then takes a few steps forward Rhodey shoots him, the 'Ex-Wife' bounces off of his suit.
"Oh my God." Scott laughed.
Tony asks if it was Hammer tech.
Rhodey says it was.
"As if it wasn't already obvious." Hank said.
Tony tries to shoot Ivan in his head, but Ivan puts his helmet back up. He starts walking toward them. He tries to wack the with his lightning whip, Tony and Rhodey run in opposite directions.
"Smart."
Rhodey starts shooting at him. Ivan wacks him with the whip. Tony flies over him, Ivan uses the whip to pull him down. Rhodey starts shooting again. Tony flies toward him, Ivan knocks him away. Ivan tangles Rhodey with one of his whips, yanks him forward and punches him away.
"Ouch."
Tony flies over to him and punches Ivan a few times. Ivan tangles him with a whip, then steps on Rhodey. Tony yanks him off, using the whip as leverage. Ivan tangles Rhodey with the other whip. Tony says he has an idea and asks if Rhodey wants to be a hero and that he could use a sidekick then tells Rhodey to put his hand up.
"That's your plan!?" Steve asked.
Tony says as he puts his hand up. Rhodey asks if that was his plan.
"It worked didn't it?" Tony asked.
They shoot at each other, causing a large explosion. Tony stands up, Rhodey does too and goes to stand by him, they Look at Ivan, who is still lying down he tells them that they lose.
"How do you lose this time?" Quill asked.
The drones around them start blinking red. Rhodey says that they're all set up to destruct and that they have to get out.
"Oh."
They fly through the bio-dome. Pepper is still standing on the stairs when she notices a drone by her, blinking.
"Oh no."
Tony flies up to her, lifts her up and flies away just before the drone blows up.
"Oh, good, she's safe." Hope said.
They land on the roof of a building. Tony sets her down and takes the helmet off. Pepper says that she cant do this anymore.
Tony questions her.
Pepper says that her body can't take the stress and that she never knows if he's going to kill himself or wreck the company.
Tony says that he thinks he did okay. One more thing explodes in the background.
"'I think I did okay' Explosion. That is the most you thing you've ever said." Happy said.
Pepper says she quits.
"Mega oof." Shuri said.
Tony says that that surprising then backtracks and says it isn't and he understands and she doesn't need to make excuses.
Pepper says she isn't making excuses.
Tony says that she is but she doesn't need to.
Pepper says her reasons are justified. Tony says she deserves better.
"You do." Tony said.
Tony says that Pepper has taken good care of him and that she got him through his rough spot.
Pepper thanks him for understanding.
Tony says they should discuss clean-up.
Pepper says she'll handle the transition.
Tony asks about the press and makes a comment about Pepper only having been CEO for a week and that it'll seem-.
"Not good." Natasha finished the sentence.
Pepper says that it's like dog years with him.
"Accurate." Rhodey said.
Pepper says that its like the presidency.
"I wouldn't go that far." Rhodey said.
They kiss.
"Finally!" Everyone shouted.
"It is about time you two stopped dancing around each other." Hope said.
"We're together now though..." Pepper said, confused.
"That's not my point." Hope said.
Tony says it was weird.
Pepper says it wasn't.
Tony says it was okay and tells her to do it again. They kiss again.
Rhodey says that he thinks its weird and says that its like two lions fighting over a grape.
People laughed.
"You were there that whole time?" Sam asked.
"Yeah." Rhodey said.
Pepper explains that she just quit.
Rhodey says they don't need to explain because he heard the whole thing.
Tony tells him he should leave.
Rhodey says that he was there first and tells them to get a roof.
A few people laughed.
Tony says he thought Rhodey was out of one-liners.
Rhodey says that that was his last one.
Tony says that he kicked ass during the fight.
Rhodey thanks him and says he needs to keep the suit because he lost his car.
Tony says no.
Rhodey says that it wasn't a question then leaves.
Tony asks Pepper how she can resign of he won't accept.
"Logic."
Tony is sitting alone at a table. He picks up a file that reads 'Avengers initiative preliminary report.' Fury stops him and says that it no longer reflects him. Then hands him Natasha's report and tells him to read it.
Tony reads it, he recites Natasha's words saying that he displays compulsive behavior. He defends it by saying that it was last week.
"I don't think that thats how those things work." Strange said.
Tony recites Natasha's words saying that he's prone to self destructive tendencies. he defends it by saying that he was dying.
"Yeah... I'll give you that, but you are still a little reckless." Natasha said.
He says that they're all dying.
"True that." Ned said.
Tony recites Natasha's words saying that he's narcissistic. He agrees.
"I thought you would have argued against that." Maria said.
He recites the part of the report that says that Iron Man is recommended and Tony stark isn't. Tony says that makes no sense and asks how they can approve him and not approve him.
"Yeah, how can you do that?" Scott asked.
He says he has a new heart and he's trying to to right by Pepper and says that they're in a stableish relationship.
Fury stands up and sits on the corner of the table and tells Tony that they'd like to bring him on as a consultant.
Tony stands up and they shake hands and tells Fury that they can't afford him but he'll waver his customary retainer in exchange for a favor. He tells Fury that he and Rhodey are being honored in Washington and they don't have a presenter.
Fury says he'll see what he can do.
"What did you do?" Mantis asked.
Senator Stern is seen standing at a podium and says its his honor to present the awards to Rhodey and Tony and he calls Tony a national treasure.
Everyone started laughing. Of course he, of all people, would be the presenter.
Stern walks over to them. He pins something on Rhodey's suit and thanks him for his performance and says he deserves the award.
Rhodey thanks him.
Stern walks over to Tony and thanks him for his performance and says he deserves the award. Stern purposely pricks him and makes a comment about how annoying pricks are.
"That was just unnecessarily immature on his part." Clint said.
A car is seen driving through a desert. Coulson steps out of the car and looks at a large crater and says to the person he's on the phone with that they've found it."Sir, we've found it." He says. The camera pans out to show Thor's hammer.
"Is that going to be what we watch next, then?" Thor asked.
"Well, I would assume so." Loki said.
