"Professors, Mr. Percy Jackson is here to see you," the castle's game keeper and Keeper of the Keys announced with a smile, before stepping aside from the doorway.
"Good morning, it is a pleasure to…" Mr. Jackson said as he stepped past the giant and entered the Headmaster's Office, and then he stopped, startled at who he saw.
"Oh hells no! This is bullshit! My contract says I never have to work with that whore again!" Percy shouted at McGonagall as he pointed to Chase.
"Mr. Jackson!" McGonagall shouted, shocked at his lack of decorum.
"No, fuck this! I'm out of here! I don't know what bullshit you're trying to pull or how you got this done but no! I'm not putting up with it. Fuck this!" He continued to scream.
"Mr. Jackson! Who do you think you are talking to?" McGonagall coldly asked as she stood to face him, her eyes narrowed to slits as she held her wand at her side.
"Apparently a headmaster that tried to snooker me into working with that slut!" Percy yelled, his face red with anger.
"That's quite enough, 'Ettaces!'" McGonagall spoke as an incantation, aiming her wand at Jackson. Percy's mouth was still moving, but he made no noise and it took him a moment to figure that out.
"I'm not the headmistress, Mr. Jackson, Professor Chase is, and you will not insult her or this office with that sort of language, I don't care what cause you have to be here."
Jackson tried to respond but no words came out thanks to McGonagall's silencing jinx. Thinking he was entering a friendly situation, Jackson did not have his wand ready to deflect the spell, and McGonagall was too close and too quick for him to strike the spell away with the shield in his watch. He would not make that mistake again. His face became redder and redder while veins popped up on his forehead and neck in frustration. No one could hear what he had to say, but from watching his mouth form the words it appeared he was saying something to the effect of 'Master of head is a perfect name for that fucking skank!' He turned to leave but Hagrid had again blocked the door, and he really didn't want to find out if Hagrid could actually fight at that moment.
The only sound in the room was Annabeth sniffling as she held her face in her hands.
"I'm sorry dear, I'll have Hagrid remove him from the grounds" McGonagall nearly whispered to Annabeth as she placed her hand on the Headmaster's shoulder.
"No. No, he has to stay, it's okay; I was expecting something like this." Annabeth paused a moment to compose herself, then asked, "how long does that spell last?"
"Different times for different casters and it is dependent upon how headstrong the recipient is. I'm reasonably good at it but Professor Flitwick, well he can make an eleven year old quiet for a two hour class," McGonagall smiled.
"Handy. You'll have to teach me that one. Percy, you don't want to be here, and I don't want to put you, or me, through all that. The ICW assigned you here, you weren't requested, and when I asked them to reconsider, they said 'no,' but I have to admit to their wisdom; you are the best for the job. Both jobs. I have made it so you won't have to deal with me or me with you. You will report to Professor McGonagall, I'm putting her in charge of your work here at the school. You're other job, well; you will work with the team at London Station as usual. Neither of us is in a good place as far as any of this goes, but I've done the best I can to accommodate and make it as comfortable as possible. Before you show your ass and stomp out there are a couple of things you need to hear."
"What if I don't want to supervise him, may I sack him?" McGonagall asked. She seriously hated Jackson already just based on her first impression.
"No, not at first anyway, the ICW wants him here, I was about to explain all this but Mr. Hagrid arrived sooner than I imagined. We, well as you can tell, Percy and I have an uncomfortable past. You will find him to be a nice guy and professional in his role here once he calms down, I can only imagine this was a shock to him."
"Not as big of a shock as coming back from a mission early the week before my wedding and finding my whore fiancé half naked in the kitchen making breakfast for her old boyfriend while he's waiting for her in my bed!" Percy shouted, having overcome McGonagall's spell. He only stopped screaming as he was out of words and too angry to think of any more.
McGonagall and Hagrid were both startled at this revelation. Though they barely knew Professor Chase, she seemed quite wholesome and neither expected her to be that sort of harlot.
"Percy! Please! Don't air dirty laundry in public! I told you what happened! If you don't want to believe me, fine, but you're just being hurtful shouting about it to people you don't even know!" Annabeth cried.
Percy saw the love of his life in anguish, and didn't care, so deep was the wound he had sustained three years before.
'You're hurting? Good.' He thought.
"As I was saying, before you run off angry, you need to know a couple things. I've hired a CFO to put the school back on a sound financial status and I"
"Why would I care about that? I don't do administration. Ever. Anywhere!"
"No, I know that, but I still think you will want to see her" Chase replied as the warning glyph went off. She glanced through the scrying glass to confirm who she expected then said "And she is just arriving, Mr. Hagrid, would you please retrieve our accountant?"
"Of course Headmaster, but shouldn't I stay to uh…"
"No, Percy won't hurt me physically. He never has, and never will and probably can't anyway. We are in no danger except from his words, and I can take that. Percy," she continued as she looked from Hagrid back to him, "The other thing is, uh, well, how is Estelle?"
"She's fine, she is at Paul's sister for the week, so I have a couple days to get back. The ICW can fuck itself; I'm not sending my sister off to boarding school like I was at her age. Oh! And don't pretend to care how she is, you couldn't even break free from your busy schedule of getting ass fucked by street people to come to her mother and father's funeral. Her mother loved you, and you didn't even show up. You sicken me."
"Language Mr. Jackson." McGonagall stared at him, ready to magically silence him again if necessary, perhaps this time with a killing curse. If the truth were to be known she was seriously wondering about the new headmistress as well.
Annabeth chose to ignore his sexual slurs as arguing would get them nowhere and just add to her public humiliation.
"No, I get that, I don't blame you, if I were in your shoes I wouldn't want to send her off to a boarding school either. She needs family, she needs to be with her brother, and I didn't come to the funeral because I knew you wouldn't want me there and I would have just caused a big mess. I pray and sacrifice for you and Estelle every day Percy. You know I love that little girl… but, where was I?" Chase asked as she stopped for a breath, glanced down at her desk, and saw an envelope, which she picked up.
"Oh right. Percy the day I got here I found out it was what they call 'letter day,' the day letters go out to all that are invited to be first year students. Their names are written in a book, I think by Hecate as it writes itself. Out of curiosity, I watched the process. One by one the names appeared, then a letter is magically created, which an owl picks up to deliver. One of the letters, when I saw the name, I took from the owl though. Percy, I thought you might want to hand deliver this. Sometimes when the divine touches a person it carries an effect to their other children. Estelle is a wizard Percy, and she has a place reserved for her here. I thought you might want to talk to her about it." Annabeth said as she took an envelope from her desk and walked it over to Percy.
Percy looked at the name on it, looked at Annabeth, and quietly sat down in a high backed leather chair, and began to weep as he thought through how this might change the situation, and how he would be losing the last person he loved in his life to an education system three thousand miles from their home. For the last three years Percy had been assigned to NYC Station, but that assignment had ended. While in New York, Percy had been able to care for Estelle and she went to elementary school in the system where her father Paul had taught when alive. Now, that wouldn't be an option as he would be on the move constantly. Percy had been dreading sending Estelle off to a boarding school for years and rued that his work would require him to, and then Annabeth told him exactly how the envelope in his hands did change everything.
"Percy, your job here comes with an apartment, just down the hall from your class room. Yesterday I used architectural spells to expand it and add a room for Estelle. It has it's own kitchen and dining room, and a big family room with Hephestus TV, oh, and he's carrying basic cable now ya know, it seems the Muses like to watch the Bachelorette; anyway, I got Leo to make a D series laptop and its loaded up with all the educational programs Olympia Net has, as well as all the ones from Gregarious Simulations for her no-maj education. The shelves are stacked with books from both worlds for her to read and learn from. You can be together here, and she can get the benefits of boarding school, the best magical education in the world, be as safe as you, and I, can make her, and still have the most loving big brother ever. You may hate me, but I would die for that child. At least talk to her about it. After all Estelle has been through, she needs to be with family."
"Muggle electronics don't work here," McGonagall pointed out. She didn't understand what the rest of that meant and just wrote it off to an American thing. McGonagall had never owned a TV or computer and had no idea that she had just heard proof of divine born magicians.
"These will, it's an American school of magic thing, our friend Leo is quite clever with that sort of thing," Annabeth replied.
Jackson was still furious that he had been tricked into coming, but on top of that he was weeping with joy at the possibility of not leaving the sister he had raised for the last three years. He still had all the anger, and now the hope and even joy, all at once, and was an emotional wreck. Add to that seeing the woman that had crushed him and he was a complete basket case. Minutes passed in silence until Hagrid returned with the new guest. Just as he was about to announce her, she shouted.
"Annabeth! Oh gods how I've missed… Percy?" she asked, seeing him weeping in the chair.
"What… What have you done to him? Percy, I'm here, it's going to be okay, Percy say something!" the young woman exclaimed as she sat on the arm of the chair and threw her arms around Jackson and pulled him into a loving embrace.
Jackson looked up, saw her, and asked through his tears;
"Hazel?"
