Welcome back to another episode of the 'Back in Action'. Second out in a month, that's awesome! This one will conclude the introduction chapters, and the real journey will start after this! This story has crossed 500K Words, and 250 favs. For me that's a new record, and I appreciate it a lot. Thanks for keeping your interest consistent, so that I could continue updating and eventually finish the series.

Now about this chapter, this is just a second part of 'Meet the Maples' because the first part was too long! So here, I am gonna write a small dinner conversation, little Norman and Ash as beer buddies in a bar, a small Caroline and May conversation and a battle between Ash and Norman. Just a one on one. Not completely sure about the beer scene, but will try to cover that up. While winding up the chapter, Ash and May will already be on Dawn's doorstep in Twinleaf. What transpires between then is in the next chapter.

Now it seems that a poll didn't work out. Maybe I would have posted it wrong. But I have made up my mind, I am gonna have Ash battle against Dawn, the reason being that Dawn is a recurring character in Sinnoh series of my story, and she can battle May in Contests. But Ash and Dawn will square off only once.

If you have any wishes or requests to star any of your Dawn's favorites, please let me know in the reviews or PM.

The Author Note ends, and the chapter begins! I hope you enjoy!

The dining room carried a happy vibe interwoven with the aroma of the meal together. Someone cooked, the family made the merriment, and that was the deal. As the four got situated, and Pikachu too, was give a special privilege to dine along on the table. The dinner, that magic that comes of soil, seed, rain and sun, sat on the plates as if a wand had just been waved. The table was adorned with numerous delectable dishes, varying from savory meets to small fruit morsels and rice balls, comprising a balanced, delicious platter that only the most conscientious of hosts would be able to put together. To top it off, a bowl of Pokemon food sat among the rest for their electric-typed friend. As usual, it was appreciated by all, who had quickly dug into the meal before them… Some more hastily than others.

The lunch of seasoned vegetables brought a tangible inner smile on May's face. She was drooling. Not that she could ever complain about Delia's cooking, but her mother didn't lag any behind either. inner at Maples as always was a humble offering, yet it was enjoyed each day as much as any banquet upon a king's table.

The dinner table remained eerily silent. The rambunctious activity of his house that Ash was so used to was replaced with an indifferent, almost indignant aura of droll formality. Though supposedly connected by the dinner table, the Maple family felt no less detached than him. Okay, maybe that was a bad analogy. Ash glanced between May and her mother, never daring to set eyes on the man sitting at the head of the table, taking bites every now and then and remaining focused on his bowl. Egh. This was so awkward.

He looked down at the plate in front of him. On the porcelain platter was a heaping of curry on top of a bed of fluffy white rice. Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef slices as thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce, cheese that melts on your tongue served with sweet blue grapes. Curry? Maybe he could start something with that…He shoved a spoonful of the curry in his mouth. Bubbles of flavour began to burst as the rich sauce filled his mouth. Sweet mother of god this was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted. A moan of delight unwillingly left his lips as he shoveled spoonful after spoonful into his mouth. A light chuckle brought him out of his food based trance. Beside him his girlfriend seemed to be highly amused by her man's reaction. It seemed the rest of the family felt the similar way.

"Wow, Caroline. I can't believe you still remember that curry rice is my absolute favorite. Not even my Mom makes curry rice like you do.''

"Oh, I am glad to hear that honey.'' Caroline beamed, with a crimson tint of blush. ''There are seconds if you want.''

"Oh, I am gonna go for thirds.'' Ash savoured the dish, taking a couple of bites more.

"Just don't hesitate dear.'' Caroline giggled.

May who was switching her eyes from her boyfriend to her mother, whispered in his ears. "I thought you didn't prefer curry and rice.''

"I don't…'' Ash nodded, faking a smile.

"Try taking a bite of that pork right after the curry.'' Norman said. Ash noticed the look Norman gave him. It felt more like an order than a suggestion. He nodded before complying, spooning another bit of curry and rice into his mouth before slicing a thin crust of the pork salami before entering it in his mouth. Two different flavors, the seasonal vegetables stewed in the curry joined hands with the roasted pork, to create something incredible together.

"Woah!" he exclaimed after he had finished chewing.

How the hell did these two things perfectly balance each other? He saw Norman smirking in delight as Caroline stifled a light chuckle. Even May seemed to be quite entertained by the exchange.

"Good to see my daughter's boyfriend can appreciate good taste." Norman said.

They continued to eat, occasionally partaking in light conversation.

"So why don't you tell us more about your adventures in Pallet Town, May?'' Norman suggested, taking a helping of the pot roast. ''Now seems like a good time.''

May leaned forward, threading her hands together. She looked besides her, where Ash sat, scarfing down food as he hadn't heard the question, while she herself couldn't find the spit to swallow down a lump. She glared at him, before finding an origin point to the story.

"Okay, so I was like scouting entire Hoenn to find this bozo, but couldn't even find a single clue where he is. He would change towns the very next day. Suddenly, I get call on the Thanksgiving week, and the caller turned out to be Mrs. Ketchum. We spoke for some time and she invited me to Pallet Town for Thanksgiving. I couldn't find it in myself to say 'No', and once I thought it over, I knew I would get some more tip offs to Ash's whereabouts. Plus, I wanted to see Misty and Brock too. So, I took the next flight and reached Kanto a day before Thanksgiving. It was late at night, and I was so hasty, I forgot to have dinner. My rotten luck worsened, as it started to drizzle and then it rain heavily. I somehow got into a cab, and it took me to Pallet Town. I remembered the address well, and got down. There was no one around. It was all clear, and I started to make my way to their entrance. I was drenched as I didn't have an umbrella, and all of a sudden, a second car comes along, and stops in front of me. Just when I had lost all hopes of seeing Ash, he appears out of nowhere. We stare at each other before he slips on his coat on me as I was soaking and takes me inside. He dries me off, and whips me something piping hot. And then, here's the funny part. We start talking, and five minutes later, we get into this fight. Turns out, he didn't want to commit to me. We spent the entire Thanksgiving ignoring each other.''

Cough! Cough! Ash reaches out for a glass of water. He fought the urge to slap a hand over her mouth. She glanced over at May, who shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Barely twenty minutes into dinner, and his image was being clawed by his own girlfriend. Fantastic. That must've been a record.

"Oh you know…because I didn't wanna rush into things. We just saw each other ten years later, and we just couldn't jump into each other you know….in a non-sexual way…'

"But he was right though. We wouldn't have achieved anything if we just reconciled and started dating. We wanted to get to know each other a little bit. There was so many secrets that he had, and then e was a widower, and I have told you the rest.''

Great! My future-in-laws know about my previous marriage. Hey Serena, could you come haunt us?

"I just wanted to let May know everything about me before we started dating. I couldn't just hide my marriage to her, and so I was honest with her…from the beginning.'' Ash emphasized on the words 'Honest' and 'beginning.' "And secondly, I wanted to give my personal life another chance, so once I cleared everything from my chest, May agreed to get involved with me."

"We started by doing some pygmy relationship activities such as shopping together, eating together, cleaning together."

"Cleaning the house….not our bodies…Sorry, continue..''

"We even had a relationship clause, to go out every Saturday for a date. We started by exploring the Pallet Town, and then the weekly dates by going to the amusement parks and movies. And he suddenly sprung on me that he was taking the Elite Four Challenge. Basically, that was the whole reason he was in Kanto. So we started the voyage. He showed me around Kanto, and everything. And slowly, we got closer and pretty attached to each other,'' she took his hand in his, and they graciously smiled at one another.

"And we have been together since…'' Ash completed. ''…although it has only been less than two months. But we always add those ten years lost.''

"That is so sweet,' Caroline held a hand to her chest, sighing affectionately.

"And how do you plan to take this relationship further. Have you taken any serious decisions you would like to share with us old-timers.'' Norman started, prompting Ash to give his mouth a moment to rest. The patriarch obviously the one with the tough hide, wasn't gonna be moved with the romancing.

"Actually Norman, I wanted to run this by you later,'' Ash began to reply, a frown on his face. ''But now that it's out in the open, me and May are travelling together to Sinnoh, next.''

"Next?"

"Yeah, I wanted to train my Pokemon more, so usually gonna bounce around the Gyms and Clubexplosions again, whatever it takes for training, and May, she's trying to make a comeback into the stage."

"So you won't be working at the Coordinator's Emporium, May?''

"Not anymore, Dad. That job isn't working out for me. I want to be on the stage and hold that Ribbon Cup once more.'' May glossed, with Ash's hand dropping on her chest. "I just want to be an Elite Top Coordinator before settling down.''

"Now that's kinda news to us.'' Caroline was surprised.

"I am sorry guys, I know this is a big step in my career, and I should have consulted you, but Ash is always gonna be there for me, and he thinks this is the right step to. Just start all over.''

Norman thought about it carefully, going over through May's plan and her pattern for goals. ''Well, if Ash thinks so, you should definitely go for it.''

"Really Dad?'' May tried to confirm. Even at the age of twenty-four, her father's approval meant everything for her, and fueled her with optimism.

"Of course, you're my big girl. And with Ash alongside you, we don't have to worry a fig,'' Norman grinned. "Besides, I already assumed you didn't plan on staying long here, either. It was always your style to head for the very next region, once you heard about it.''

"And I hear, that Sinnoh has changed a lot since the past decade. With all constant migration, new species can be seen in the region. There are challenges for Coordinators and Trainers at every doorstep. It just has evolved to a Grand extent, thanks to all the foreign investments from Unova Region.''

"You're serious?!'' May nearly sprung to her feet, hand slamming into the table rattled silverware, flattening her crumpled napkin to the table, only to be calmed down and sat back on the chair. Nobody could blame her for the sudden rush of excitement. Her sapphire eyes glimmered with a new found enthusiasm, the one that was missing for years to the parents. Her mind was already racking the possibilities. "I had anticipated the same old region with new faces, but now there's gonna be Pokemon from Unova to see. Which means I can catch some new Pokemon too?''

"Now, that's just like you,'' Caroline chuckled.

"The both of you,'' Norman said, switching his chop sticks between Ash and May. ''No doubt you kids are gonna have fun. So when you plan on leaving?''

"Actually, we just dropped in for a day. We had plans to it Sinnoh tomorrow, if you don't mind.'' Ash pleased.

"Kinda rushing, don't you think?' Norman had a small objection to it. With his kids away from home most of the time, this wasn't foreign to him.

"Don't take it the wrong way, Norman. I would love to have me and May spend some time here, but the thing is I am on a sabbatical from work, and my business partners are taking care of everything, but I would love to get back to work soon too. So once the Championships are over, I wanna be in the office the next day.''

"I understand. You are a busy man,'' Norman conceded. ''You can drop us a visit anytime, you know that.''

"Yeah,'' Ash grinned. "But there was one last thing I wanted to ask the both of you.''

"Yes, go ahead.'' Caroline permitted.

"You see, we ain't gonna be done at Sinnoh. Eventually I'll finish the Gyms and May's Contests will be numbered, but there's always gonna be a next region.''

"True..'' Norman bobbed.

"And now comes the significant part where mine and May's relationship lies. Let's face it, Sinnoh is just because we need more time for each other. But we have decided, that after Sinnoh, we are gonna take this to Kalos, where you know, I reside permanently now. And we kinda wanted to move in together."

Stunned expressions all around held true, with each listener feeling varying degrees of shock. Ash's inspirational speeches were far from out of the ordinary, but hearing him approach a situation with a path other than his first impulse was certainly something new.

Noting their reactions, he continued. "I know this is a serious step, and it may be too soon. Look, neither of us is a hasty Ekans here, and we want the best for our future, and it think moving in together can be really fruitful. I know I have this bad habit of springing this on people at the wrong time, but now we are gonna be seeing a lot of each other, and just wanted to be honest with you guys.''

After giving her parents a few moments to collect their thoughts and for the shock of the refusal to fade, May cleared his throat. "Dad,'' she pleaded, holding Ash's left hand. ''This is something we want to do, together. I can't be living here my whole life.''

Norman finished, chewing his food, swallowing it whole followed by a glass of water that he emptied. Awkward silence filled the table. Caroline couldn't put a say in it, as these decisions were to be handled by the father. But in her agreement, she wanted to give the young ones her approval. It seemed like forever, when in reality the thought process was merely a minute. What, he was old and not as spry as back then!

"Norman, I hope you of all can understand, that a long distance relationship will cause a turmoil. I'll be very busy with new projects lining up that need my approval, and won't be able to take off time to focus on May, if she returns to Petalburg. I know it's a new region for her, but it's totally my responsibility. '' Ash added, with full negotiations.

The husband and wife shared a look, as if their eyes would be discussing their thoughts mentally. Caroline gave her husband a reassuring smile, and his facial features straightened. The Gym Leader hesitantly opened his mouth to speak, only to quickly shut it again, repeating the process. "Alright, if you both feel so strongly about each other, then you have my blessing. It's not that I am upset. I am in fact, happy that my daughter has grown up, and has someone like you to look after her. That scratches out all my worries. You guys can move in together, but let me tell you this…." His final implications caused Ash's head to perk up..''May is one lousy roommate.''

"…(weeps)…I am not gonna chide you for that,'' May wiped a tear. Ecstatic, she was quick to jump from her seat, and cross the table, and lunged into her father for a hug. ''Thanks a lot Dad. I love you."

"I love you too, pumpkin.'' Norman nodded back, patting his daughter's head.

"May, how about we go pack your stuff after dinner?" Caroline giggled. ''You would need help with your packing skills.'''

"Mom!''

"What I thought you said you weren't gonna chide?'' the elder brunette teased.

"She's right May,'' a smile stretched on the Gym Leader's features. ''Sinnoh is freezing at this time of the year. You need to stock up on warm woolen clothes, and even on items you need for your journey. I assume you'll be seeing your team before setting off? I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave unprepared."

"Oh that's right!'' May nodded along, turning to her boyfriend, fist closed and held in conviction. ''Babe, we need to go shopping!''

"Sounds cool…'' Ash blatantly agreed.

"And Ash, seeing you battle on the TV has riled me up.'' Norman raised a glass to him. ''How about we finish up dinner, and go have a battle. I hear you crushed my son flawlessly.''

"I would love to have a Pokemon Battle with you, Norman.''

The interior of the Petalburg Gym still resembled a medieval Japanese indoor home, with the entrance itself being a sliding wall. However, the Gym had been through some maintenance and new interiors throughout the years, thanks to the reserves every Gym Leader is entitled to. Off to the side where Ma and Caroline, having themselves seated on the bench. There was a time when the family couldn't act as audience, but someone of Ash's caliber wouldn't have audience as a distraction.

"I am giddy to watch this battle,'' Caroline giggled. ''Both these men would hate to have their pride hurt.''

"Yeah this does seem fairly interesting. Two of the strongest trainers I know are gonna collide.'' May agreed.

"I take it you aren't torn between your Dad and Ash this time, are you May?''

"Dad already has you on his corner, doesn't he?'' May smiled back, a wise answer of her own.

The two men stood opposite to one another, staring into each other's eyes, a smile mirroring each other. Norman had his hands stationed on his hip, while Ash was cracking the knuckles of his. Pikachu was perched on his shoulder, looking forward to be a participant. All he was waiting for was that full of energy Vigoroth to appear. Tonight the ape was gonna know the comeback of the little lemon mouse.

The official referee, Kenny was appointed as the referee for this battle, and the assistant took his place on the central podium, from where he could scrutinize the battle.

"So, one-on-one it's gonna be?'' Ash questioned.

"You got somewhere to be young man?'' Norman taunted. ''I was thinking we play by the general rules applied. Three on three.''

"I was only trying to save you the humiliation of one loss. But the onus of three is now on you.'' Ash jibbed. Right now, he wasn't Norman's daughter's boyfriend, but a mere challenger, who wasn't willing to back down, nor 'lose' the battle to make Norman win.

"I hope that enthusiasm holds strong over the battle! You were impressive at the Indigo League. Now show me it wasn't just a coincidence."

Ash smirked at him. "Prepare to be amazed,'' Ash unveiled determined.

"Pikapika!'' Pikachu squeaked in agreement.

"This will be an unofficial three versus three gym battle between the challenger, Ash Ketchum and the Gym Leader, Norman. Only the challenger will be allowed substitutions!" Kenny announced loudly with a clear voice of formality.

Norman smirked, fairly eager himself. "Go, Ursaring!''

He shouted, hurling a single Pokéball towards the battlefield. The sphere popped open and released the tall Hibernator Pokémon appeared on the spot, growling a fierce "Ursaaaah!" to show its readiness for the battle.

"An Ursaring, diversifying the team today I see,'' Ash mused, outstretching an arm. ''Pikachu, get in!''

"Pika pi!''

The electric mouse hopped down from Ash's shoulder, pouncing on the ground, and readying himself, putting on his game face. The large bulkier figure didn't scare him a bit. Ursaring growled at the small mouse, grunting. That was what he had to fight against? Ursaring snorted, garbling something in Pokemon language which Pikachu quickly decipher, however he paid no mind, refusing to be riled up and displaying a cool confidence.

"Pikachu right off the bat?'' May hummed. ''Now that could only mean Ash doesn't wanna take any chances against Dad.''

"Begin!''

"Pikachu, Iron Tail!'' Ash shouted energetically. It had been a while since he had felt the thrill of a good Gym battle.

"Ursaring, Hammer Arm!''

Ursaring growled out loud as it rushed towards Pikachu with his forearms glowing brightly. The quicker this is over, the better. Down right in front of him, Pikachu vaulted in the air, putting on a steely grin. His jagged tail thickened into a lustrous silver.

The gym hall resonated with a deafening frequency, the trilling clang of metalized tail against hardened arm reached only the spectators ears as they kept watch over the battle. The Iron Tail and Hammer Arm attacks canceled each other, causing Ursaring's arm to sling back and Pikachu to nimbly twist to right himself before landing on the ground.

"Thrash!'' Norman urged.

"Quick Attack!''

An arm cracked the floor below where Pikachu had just been, tumbling out of the way, as he narrowly avoided the earth-splitting blow. Needless to say, the fleet footed mouse very quickly dodged the enraged foot falls and slashes of the brown bear. The ground split under the Ursaring's Thrash attack, its eyes never straying from Pikachu's arm even as dizziness overcame it. Confusion did nothing to deter the beast.

"It's slowing down, use Iron Tail!''

"Pi-kaaaa!" Just as Ursaring prepared for another attack, Pikachu coated his tail into steel. A silver streak smashed into the bear's side, knocking him off balance with a pained roar.

"Keep going, Thunderbolt!'' Grinning and forming a fist, Ash continued

Pikachu took to the air, gathering electricity that fired in a quick, golden burst. "Pika-chuuu!" Ursaring was electrocuted, roaring and stumbling about in pain. In just a few short moments, he was brought down to one knee. The little electric type skidded as the titan fell.

"Is Ursaring alright?'' May cried, distracting Ash. She looked horrified for her father's Pokemon. The sight left Ash guilt-ridden; enough to distract him from the Hammer Arm command that knocked Pikachu back.

"Pika!" Pikachu brushed off his side, boasting nothing more than a few scratches. However, things weren't that pleasant. The large, snarling Ursaring loomed over him. Pikachu waved frantically, but the bear was already upon him. Counting all his blessings, something miraculous happened. Ursaring thundered in pain, as his limbs denied him the pleasure of movements. Static volts sparkled on his fur, eliciting another roar.

"Great, it's paralyzed! Take it out with Iron Tail!''

Pikachu obliged, tumbling towards the bear with a tail coated in steal. "Chua…! Pi-KA!"

"Hammer Arm!''

He swung - and missed. Ursaring had ducked under Iron Tail at the last second and swung around with a blood-curdling roar. Hammer Arm smashed into Pikachu's back, retaliating with a vengeance. The mouse was sent tumbling, nowhere near unconscious. But he faced another problem.

"Hyper Beam!''

Ursaring's mouth parted, allowing a brilliant orange glow to grow between sharp fangs. Light drew to a singular point, culminating before spewing from Tyranitar's maw as a massive Hyper Beam, that razed the floor in a deafening explosion, clouding it in smoke. With his small size, Pikachu was however, a target that was hard to aim at. Even with a slash, Pikachu found refuge in the shroud, with Ursaring silhouette visible to him.

"It was deceptively faster,'' Ash noted. ''I was under the impression that Guts could raise Ursaring's attack power, but this is something else. This is Quick Feet, where the user's speed increases under status infliction.'' Ash bit. "Pikachu, Thunderbolt!''

From the smoke, the little mouse leaped up, bouncing upon Ursaring's head using it as a spring, and summoned a bolt of lightning. "CHU!''

The mouse's wrath was unleashed upon the bear, however, even before Ash could see the lights of plasma again, Ursaring still wasn't down for the count. The Normal Type was much more resilient and that was a trademark of its species.

Ash analyzed the scene for a moment. Then he made his decision. ''Pikachu, come back for now.

"Pi?'' the mouse whirled around, scampering to his trainer's corner.

"By paralysis, we just gave Norman the edge,'' Ash discussed crouching down in front of the mouse. ''We need to eliminate Ursaring's ability.'' Ash smirked, righting himself up, and plucked out a corresponding Pokeball . ''It just happens that I have someone for the job.''

"Pika Pi!'' Pikachu nodded, appreciating a short break for a while.

"Serperior, I choose you!'' Ash threw the Pokeball, to unleash his next fighter. The Regal Pokemon appeared, coiling herself into a neat circle and gazing imperiously at her opponent. She slithered, forking her tongue out, she hissed disgustingly at the sight of the overgrown bear.

"I am sure that Pokemon is a Serperior but I gotta know more,'' May pulled out her Pokedex and scanned the image of the grass type. The monotone voice chimed as the Dex detected the downloaded data on the files of Serperior.

"Serperior, the Regal Pokemon. A grass type. It only gives its all fighting against strong opponents who are not fazed by the glare from Serperior's noble eyes. It can stop its opponents' movements with just a glare. It takes in solar energy and boosts it internally."

"That Serperior looks well-trained.'' Caroline observed. ''Look at the years on the Pokemon.''

Despite its intimidating look, Ursaring shrugged it off.

"Hmm…'' Norman reflected. ''I have seen one in my teen days. I haven't battled one but I know what to expect.''

"Trust me,'' Ash figured, loosening his watch. ''You don't.''

Norman's smirk etched over his features. ''Then I will find out. Ursaring, Hammer Arm!''

The Hibernation fought off the nagging pain from paralysis, boosted ability from Quick Feet shot him forward. He raised his glowing hulking arm, ready to bring it down upon the swaggering serpent. The force of the blow sent shockwaves through the ground, and everyone on the playing field could feel the brutality of that single blow.

Serperior fizzed back in pain, withstanding it.

"Awesome job, Serperior,'' Ash praised, truly meaning to compliment Serperior. ''Use Gastro Acid!''

Still rather close, Serperior spat out a toxic fluid that she hurled straight from her stomach acids. Ursaring was drenched in the liquid, bellowing as the toxic feeling ate away into him and stole away his ability, eroding his trump card.

May rested her chin in her hand as she analyzed the battle schematics. "Hmmm…Ursaring was slightly faster than Serperior given that Quick Feet was serving its timing, but with that last Hammer Arm, it put a dent in Ursaring's average speed, and Ash seized the timing to have Serperior use Gastro Acid, which eliminates the effect of target's ability." She briefly looked up at her father, who looked strained. She frowned, and shook her head. ''That's it. Dad's lost the marbles here.''

"Now, now sweety,'' Caroline chimed, ''Let's not jump to conclusions, shall we?''

"Serperior, use Dragon Tail!'' Ash cried out, thrusting his fist forward.

The Regal Pokemon followed through with the command and attempted to smash Ursaring with her slender, purple glowing tail. The accuracy was precise, but what Ash didn't expect was Ursaring catching the tail in his own grasp and preventing Serperior from doing any damage. Ursaring struggled under the weight, but was able to shove the tail out of its way.

"Have another surprise," The Gym Leader offered Ash. "Ursaring! Secret Power!"

Being a Normal-type attack, the power of the attack and the arm that flew at Serperior did not affect it much. However, it suddenly felt tensed at she was undergoing the same status conditions. She was being paralyzed; Secret Power's hidden effect on the building terrain.

"Damn it,'' Ash grit. ''I didn't see that one coming. Come on, Serperior!"

Ash's words were somewhat getting through to the giant snake, though it wasn't enough to break the condition she was rendered in. She winced again when she saw Ursaring charging up another attack. This time straight from the mouth.

"We have Serperior right where we want it," Norman announced, sounding a bit more optimistic that his plan was working well so far. "Take your time charging that Hyper Beam, Ursaring. It won't be able to take another major hit like that."

With paralysis, Serperior's poor speed could make her a guaranteed hit. However, instead of trying to dodge an attack, it would better to take a different route. The route of distracting Ursaring to the point where the attack never occurs.

"Serperior, pull yourself together and use Leaf Storm!''

Her eyes shot open as Serperior made her gambit, spiraling her tail furiously as emerald leaves surrounded her tail and where whipping into a frenzy. The entire field suddenly picked up the weather condition of a hurricane, where the gales began to blew with sharp leaves. Serperior cried loudly, battering the Hibernation Pokemon with brilliant, verdant succession of leaves. Ursaring was quickly distracted when leaves started pelting him, not to mention the gust and sand easily able to get in its eyes and obscure its vision, as well as causing extreme pain. Its charged energy dispersed as Ursaring tried to rub its eyes in frustration.

"Perfect timing,'' Ash smirked. ''Serperior, use Wrap!''

Serperior proudly did as she was told, racing at the bear, coiling around the normal type's body. Norman furrowed his brows. His Ursaring was already paralyzed and now had the creature coiled around his body. She squeezed Ursaring hard, making the situation all the worse for Norman's Pokémon.

"Get a good grip, Serperior!'' Ash shouted back.

Norman grumbled as he tried to formulate of a plan to get Ursaring out of danger. Being in such close proximity to Serperior, being squashed by her body, and suffering the effects of Leaf Storm was taking an enormous toll on it. Within a couple of minutes of Serperior's appearance, he was suddenly dealing with a myriad of issues. "Ursaring!" he cried out. "J-just… try to break out of it! If you can toss away her tail, breaking out of the Wrap should be easy!"

Normally it would be, but the bind of the snake was very taxing on Ursaring's stamina. He attempted to break free from the hold, but could not do so quickly. Meanwhile, Serperior was preparing for her next move as she leisurely countered Ursaring's attempts to break free by squeezing harder.

"Slam yourself down on the floor, and rub yourself against the ground!'' Norman frowned.

Still able to stand, Ursaring banzai dropped himself on the floor. Serperior hissed in pain, as a part of her body took the blow. At the second, her body came a little loose, at the third, she fell of Ursaring's body. She slithered away while Ursaring struggled for oxygen and relief.

"Excellent work, Ursaring!'' Norman swiped a hand.

"Na uh…'' Ash wiggled an index finger, insisting with a smirk. ''Serperior, Dragon Tail!''

Norman stared in abject horror. A brutal slam was heard, followed by the dramatic breaking of the skull. It was a direct hit, and Ursaring was powerless to resist it. Ursaring was sent flying back to its side of the field near Norman. The Gym Leader fell to his knees and stared at his Pokémon, who was now rendered unconscious by that final vicious blow.

Even Conway was horrified, and it was evident in the tone of his voice. "Ursaring is unable to battle, the winner is Serperior!''

"Great job, Serperior!'' Ash cheered, as if he'd won the entire challenge already.

Serperior bowed her head down royally, appreciative of her trainer's comment. Norman stared hard at the Pokeball Ursaring was returned in. He had just been in control of the battle mere moments earlier, and now one small error made him lose the first round.

In response to Ash's victory, he clapped. "Marvelous, Ash. I don't use Ursaring often, but you are the first trainer to have taken him out so quickly. But, just a reminder, I still have two Pokemon left.''

"Flash news, Norman, I have all three!'' Ash pumped up.

Caroline smiled. "Just look how pumped both Ash and Norman are; Ash because he won the first round, and Norman because he's excited about the way he was uniquely defeated. This battle is just starting and I promise Norman will not be easily defeated," she analyzed as she evaluated the attitude of the Champion and Gym Leader.

"Not for long, Ash. Not for long.'' Norman took out a second Pokéball. He chucked the device on the field, "Go Vigoroth!''

The ball burst open, releasing the Wild Monkey Pokemon. Vigoroth was larger and pure white with a red tear-shaped tuft of fur on its head. It had two brown stripes on his back, and the arms were rather long in relation to the rest of the body. The paws were two long and sharp looking claws. The Vigoroth roared in anticipation of the battle, hopping from side to side energetically and ready for a fight.

"Itching for a fight, huh?'' Ash teased.

"Pika!'' Pikachu's fur bristled.

"Ya I know, but I wanna continue things with Serperior just for a bit longer,'' Ash placated the electric type.

May knew this was coming, and she couldn't envy Serperior right now. The reason being she had seen Ash's Serperior in action only today, but she has grew up seeing Vigoroth in action on multiple occasions. She knew what Ash was in for, only she couldn't tell him.

"Alright, Serperior, Dragon Tail!''

Serperior was quick to act despite her paralysis, swung her large purple limb at the Wild Monkey Pokemon.

But this time, Norman refused to allow his physical limitations to hold him back. "Dodge it!" He ordered, and Vigoroth did so with ease. The strategy to getting around a giant serpentine was to abuse the gift of speed it had. Compared to Vigoroth, Serperior was slower, and being significantly smaller than Serperior made Vigoroth an even harder target to hit. Even without Norman's commands, the hyperactive ape was constantly dodging on its own, perhaps assuming that was part of the general routine it would have to go through if it wanted to defeat Serperior. And it had to defeat Serperior: its fate depended on the outcome of this battle. It awaited Norman's commands when it came to the offensive maneuvers, however.

"Now, use Slash!''

Vigoroth complied immediately, charging at Serperior extremely fast while roaring incoherently while flailing his arms.

"Dodge it!''

However, Serperior was simply too slow. Vigoroth's claws pounded hard into the serpent's head and sent it crashing down. Ash was aghast at the sight while Norman let a wicked grin escape his lips. After throwing down on Serperior, Weavile continued to beat on Regal Pokemon's head without any sort of command from Norman. The snake winced, and cried. Those raking claws actually hurt.

"Leaf Storm!'' Ash ordered, throwing a hand up.

"serp!" Serperior cried, raising her twisting tail to unleash another flurry of glowing leaves. The leaves then took an upward path, turning all eyes on the shining twister. The powerful cyclone of the leaves lifted the ape and plummeted Vigoroth away at a distance. Raising back with straightening itself, Vigoroth garbled.

Serperior hoisted her head up, her pride had been tampered with, and that meant trouble for the dancing ape.

"Use Dragon Tail!''

"Not a chance!'' Norman outstretched an arm. ''Use Encore!''

"Damn it!'' Ash grimaced. Vigoroth hoisted its arms, and clapped them with applause. A blue aura overcame Serperior, the draconic power of her tail fading and the grass element within her suddenly became selfish to become the star of the evening. No matter how much Serperior restrained herself, another volley of leaves spiraled in a column, launched at Vigoroth.

"Dodge it!''

Vigoroth sidestepped, allowing the torturous cyclone of sharp leaves assault the ground behind it. Once Leaf Storm was executed, an unpreventable fatigue was noticed in Serperior's features. She had been executing Leaf Storm a little more than accounted for which was a steep reduction in her special Special Attack was being lowered, and she was growing weaker.

But Norman was not going to give her enough time to recover. "Use Ice Punch, Vigoroth!" He commanded. Vigoroth roared and leaped high, its right set of claws balled into a fist, glowing to form the cyanic frost on its arm.

Ash warned again, "Serperior look out!''

Serperior tried to regain her focus, only to see Vigoroth closing on her. The Wild Monkey Pokémon went bananas, spinning his body rapidly with both arms spread out like a pair of whips. She tried to track the more dangerous one, the one charged with ice power, but in doing so the other clawed her in her head, making her lose her focus.

"I got it!'' Ash smirked. ''Leaf Storm, Counter Shield!''

Serperior hesitated. The move could already put her on the verge of fatigue and immobility but with those trusting look in her trainer's eyes, she had to invest her entire trust. The serpent queen wasted no time, her tail spinning along. Serperior shrieked, releasing the leaves from her body, spinning along the tail to form a cyclone wall around her, the twister lashed out at Vigoroth, slapping the ape away as it neared. The Ice Punch was nullified. Under quite a bit of duress, the Regal Pokemon panted. At the very least, she had earned herself a moment of rest.

"Flamethrower!''

Still regrettably skidding to the ground, Vigoroth wasted no time. Parting his maw wide, he shot off a terrible blaze that scorched away the volley of leaves, ultimately dousing Serperior in the flames and weeping her as well, blown away by the scorching onslaught. Serperior whimpered, her face hit the ground with a thud, passionate eyes once turned into swirls.

"Serperior is unable to battle! Vigoroth wins!'' Kenny declared with an authoritative tone.

"Serperior!'' Ash held a Pokeball in his arm, the red beam retracting Serperior back in the capsule. ''Thanks for the battle, and sorry you had to exert yourself. I'll be careful the next time.''

"Dad beat Serperior,'' May gasped. ''Now you can see Ash's vein pop..''

"Did a good job raising Serperior, Ash.'' Norman praised. "Not many grass type stand tall after four Leaf Storms.''

"You forget that I am no amateur.'' Ash joshed back. ''Pikachu, get in there again!''

"Pika!"' the mouse totally flew, landing on the field. Vigoroth pounded on the ground in anticipation upon the arrival.

"Seems like your Pikachu was expecting this battle,'' Norman observed.

"He still has a score to settle,'' Ash combated.

"Well, he has his match now!''

Being one of Ash's primary battlers, it was clear that Norman would have a difficult time overcoming this fight. Norman furrowed his brows, calling out the first attack. "Vigoroth, use Slash!''

Vigoroth roared in confirmation and charged towards Pidgeot, claws ready and outstretched.

"Electroweb!'' Ash said simply, confidence shining in him from having such a trusty partner on the battlefield. Pikachu sprung his small legs in the air, but over a marginal height. He forged a perfect sphere of electricity on his tail, winding up and slap-shooting the crackling sphere that spread out into a web and collided head on with the Wild Monkey Pokémon, causing him to roar in pain as he was flung backwards from the sheer force behind the attack. The ape stood up, slashing at the web into small sizzles, growling in rage from the attack he had sustained.

"Now that's what I call balance of power!'' Norman sniggered, "Vigoroth, Slash!''

Vigoroth roared and went berserk again, charging at the electric rodent once again.

"Electroweb to defend yourself!'' Ash countered defiantly, refusing to give Norman a single inch of terrain in the battle. Vigoroth roared a powerful battle cry and leaped mightily, rising at least twenty feet in the air, almost hitting the roof. Pikachu looked up as he began to dive towards him, intent on using the fall to power his attack. The mouse chucked a crackling net upon himself, encasing himself in a chandelier of electricity.

Vigoroth could only rake the netting, the volts began to spread upon his arm, electrocuting the ape, and this caused Norman to gasp in shock. "It used Electroweb as a shield!?" he cried in astonishment.

"And he's about to do a lot more than just resist it," Ash answered proudly. "Iron Tail!''

With lightning reflexes, Pikachu spun, raking the metallic jagged tail upon Vigoroth, hurtling the Wild Monkey Pokemon like a tennis ball, batted the Normal-type Pokémon away. Vigoroth smashed into the wall on the side of the Gym, cracking it.

Caroline gasped when Vigoroth crashed violently against the wall. "This is a very intense battle…"

Norman growled at how the advantage was slipping away from him again. "Vigoroth, get up and use Ice Punch!" he ordered sharply. Vigoroth nodded and shakily began to rise. Even if Pikachu's attack had been devastating, he still had some energy left in him. With a mighty cry he charged towards the mouse as his claws emanated a glow of ice blue.

"Pikachu, Quick Attack!''

Scratching the ground with a tiny paw, the little mouse darted forward. Vigoroth quickly advanced, a frozen fist threatening to deal calamitous damage. He threw the hook directly upon Pikachu, but the latter was quick to disappear, the punch only making a contact with one of the after images. Before Vigoroth could react, he was hit from behind by a hard tackle. He cried out in pain and stumbled forward, swaying badly from the heavy disorientation after being struck in the back.

"Encore!''

Vigoroth stumbled, grumpily cursing the mouse before raising his hands.

"Pikachu quick! Electroweb!'' Ash hurried, foiling Norman's plans.

"Pika pi!'' the mouse spun airborne, his tail stiffened and a web of electricity came sailing down, picking up velocity and latching upon Vigoroth, the distance between his hands now only an inch. The clap was made, and Pikachu's body took a blue outline, all the more reason for the mouse to snicker.

"Damn it!'' Norman grimaced.

"Looks like your strategy just went topsy turvy,'' Ash smirked. ''Pikachu, finish it!''

There was no time for Vigoroth to react, as Pikachu unleashed pair of webs materializing from the tip of his tail. The webs stuck upon the ape, and in another split second, his body was assaulted with overwhelming electricity. Vigoroth rocketed backward, swaying for a moment, and smacked down on the ground, lifeless.

Kenny raised the flag corresponding to Ash's side of the field. "Vigoroth is unable to continue battling. The winner of this round is Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town!" He declared as Norman returned the fallen Normal-type back into his Pokéball.

"Awesome!'' Ash praised.

"Pika pi!'' the mouse cheered with a victory shaped sign.

May looked at Pikachu in surprise. She had seen the mouse battle frequently ever since she met Ash, but they were amateurs back then. Now the mouse didn't take fraction of an hour to defeat her father's best offense.

"That was pretty enthralling,'' Caroline giggled, ''Looks like we got ourselves an heir to the Gym.''

"No chance,'' May denied. ''He doesn't have the time to maintain the Gym.''

"Too bad.'' Caroline flustered. ''He would have made an amazing Gym Leader.''

Norman clapped. "Impressive Ash, very impressive…" He complimented, smiling.

Ash smirked victoriously. "Thanks Norman. So, it's gonna be Slaking, ain't it?''

"You bet,'' Norman confirmed, chucking the last Pokeball in hand, to the center of the arena and releasing the Pokémon inside with a bright flash of white light. The Kong roared proudly and pounded his arms against his chest with a lot of power. Slaking was a rather large gorilla-like Pokémon. Most of his fur was brown in coloration, along with the ring patterning encircling his eye. His face, chest, hands and feet were a lighter brown in color. Slaking had a white collar of fur around his neck, extending towards the top of his head in a small tuft.

"Damn…don't know why I get the chills every time I see Norman's Slaking,'' Ash sweated.

"He switches from offense to defense, just like my strategy with Slakoth and Vigoroth. I need to spot a weakness in his defense, so that I can go for a full blown attack. There's no room for mistakes here.'' Norman deducted from the experiences of the battle and what he'd seen of Ash so far. "Slaking, Focus Punch!''

Slaking lazily rose up, fist lit in an yellow illumination, and charged at Pikachu at a rather impressive speed for such a big and lazy Pokémon. Ash gulped at the incoming attack that could be potentially dangerous to his Pokémon. "Dodge it!''

Pikachu threw his body to the side, adding a flip to aid his dodge. Slaking passed above him, Pikachu's dodge had been fast enough to avoid the hit. Though Slaking missed, he had no intentions of fulfilling the task, as he slumped back on the ground, snoring.

"That's right,'' Ash bit. ''Slaking's Truant ability. Gotta look out for that. Hey, Pikachu. Use Electroweb!''

"Pika!'' The mouse bounded and somersaulting, a thick web of crackling electricity unleashed and hasped itself on the ape, however, it frizzled and disappeared causing only a minimal amount of damage. The kong simply yawned and scratched his belly. The white glow from Pikachu faded, indicating he was no longer under the effects of Encore.

"Rock Tomb, quick!'' Norman followed up, knowing that he needed to give Pikachu any room for offense. Yawning, Slaking raised his gigantic fist, and pounded the floor hard, causing a small tremor to run across the building. From all around Pikachu, the floor cracked and split apart as a series of sharp jagged rocks emerged from it, all directed on burying him into a catacomb of deadly boulders.

"Iron Tail!'' Ash countered quickly. Pikachu nodded as his tail began to glow white as it hardened to steel again. He made a powerful horizontal slash with his tail, so strong that it split all the rocks heading at him in half, making them crumble and fall to the floor as plain shards.

"Now, Electroweb!''

Norman gasped. Ash was amazing, even with such a rapid succession of attacks, he still managed to shrug them off and make an opening to attack.

"Slaking, block it!" He countered. The jagged tail was once again a normal extremity, however that didn't mean it could rest. From the static on his tip, Pikachu fired a web of pre electricity at Slaking. The gorilla growled and placed his big fat hands in front of him, palms wide open. The net collided strongly against him, making him wince from the stinging pain in his hands, but the damage was minimal.

"He blocked it!?" Ask asked in surprise, eyes widening slightly.

"I thought you knew my Slaking was durable,'' Norman reminded him with a buoyant smile.

"I also remember beating him once,'' Ash returned back, ''Pikachu, Quick Attack!''

"Pika pi!'' If their last match was any indication, overwhelming Norman's normal types with speed was the way to keep up. Pikachu acted instantly, breaking into a speed that made him nearly invisible on the battlefield. "Chaa!'' Pikachu shrieked, building enough power to launch at Slaking in a silver-glistened sprint, darting left to right at a pace that was difficult even for an experienced to follow.

Norman growled lowly as every one of his gym's gimmicks and strategies was constantly overcome by the Pallet Town trainer. 'Ash is too good, he's shifting to the offence even when I'm trying to stop him from doing that!' He thought desperately. "Slaking, catch it!"

One eye opened, head still placed on his palm, Slaking braced himself, it didn't look like he was to the spectators, yet in his own way, he was alerted. Once Pikachu neared and leaped for the ram, he ape caught the mouse in one powerful clap. Slaking smirked. "Got you now," he taunted once he had finally stopped him.

"Pika!'' the mouse squealed, clutched in the grasp of the large ape, and the kong's intimidating fangs didn't make it any easier.

"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt to get out of there!''

"Pi!"' the mouse channeled his electricity, but the none, not a volt, reached his cheeks to execute. The midsection was being constricted that it prevented the mouse to withdraw from his storage.

"He's trapped!'' May cried.

"Bulk Up!'' Norman smirked.

Truant had worked its charm. Slaking could use a move again. Channeling his internal energy, with an aim to squeeze Pikachu harder with flexed muscles, an aura of strength bulked Slaking up. Ripped muscles now more visible, building Slaking's body as a weightlifter. Now his attacks would hit harder and he could also withhold some damage.

Pikachu squealed harder, Slaking's bind was tightening.

"Man, this is so atrocious,'' Ash grit. His eyes fell upon Pikachu's bolt shaped tail, seeing it was free from the bind. His brain instantly served him what he needed.

"Pikachu, Electroweb!''

So what if the electricity couldn't reach his cheeks, but they could travel down to his tail for sure. Reserved electricity soon began to gather on his jagged tail, rumbling and crackling until the sphere had reached a phenomenal size. The vibrations given off by Pikachu's speed, had built the large orb he was to muster, and with a shriek, the golden orb burst into a net, capturing Slaking.

The stinging pain made Slaking roar, releasing his capture, as the mouse bounded away. The body of the mouse began to loosen up, as all his organs had stuck to each other during the grasp of the ape. Content at the blood flowing in is veins again, the mouse dropped on all fours.

"Rock Tomb!''

Pulling off the electric mask from his face, the ape thumped the floor once again, once again sending quakes that resulted in mountainous stones speared out of the ground, to close Pikachu in a cage of solid rocks.

"It's been fun,'' Norman trailed off, ''Now we wait until Truant is over.''

"Pikachu, quick use Thunderbolt!'' Ash recovered quickly from the surprise. The gaps between the rocky cell filled with golden light, and a moment later, all the rocks were crumbled into shards, exploding and sailing off, as Pikachu freed himself from the prison. The bolts zapped and merged into a strong arc, now heading towards Slaking, the wicked discharge struck Slaking in the chest, knocking the ape in a smoking heap.

"pika…pi…'' the mouse panted. Some of the rocks had managed to take a toll on his body as evidenced by the dirt and bruises. His back was grazed by the scratches done by the boulders.

"Pikachu doesn't look like he can continue against Slaking for long, moreover, he deserves a breather.'' Ash noticed, recalling Pikachu with a command of a hand. ''Pikachu, come back for now!''

"Pi?'' A switch for a second time? Why care? He already did his job. Scampering past the irate ape, Pikachu sauntered at the legs of his trainer, looking up curiously.

"You did your part, take a rest for now.'' Ash patted the mouse's head. ''Will ask you to jump in if necessary. Besides,'' Ash craned his head at Slaking. ''We need an equal footing for Slaking' size.''

"Pika pi.''

The Pallet Native brushed his hair and reached for a Pokeball in his coat pocket. "Now, it's your turn! I choose you, Emboar!'' the capsule was fished out from his coat, held outward towards their opponent, before Ash turned it back, winding up and lobbing it towards the battlefield. The sphere burst open, releasing the Mega Fire Pig Pokemon, who let out a snort upon his entry, smacking his arms together. Eyes were now casted at the lazed Slaking. This couldn't be afforded t be overlooked by the kong. Raised from his slumber, the mega ape slammed his fist on the battlefield, riled up for the battle.

"Whoa, what is that?'' May scanned the fire type with her dex. "Emboar, the Mega Fire Pig Pokemon. It has mastered fast and powerful fighting moves. Also, it can throw a fire punch by setting its fist on fire with it fiery beard. It cares deeply about his friends. It is adept at using many different moves.''

"So with Emboar, Serperior and Samurott, he has a trio of Unova starters,'' May surmised. ''How lucky.''

"It seems like Slaking is taking his battle a bit more serious.'' Caroline murmured, noticing the momentary still in the battle.

May nodded. "Ash has already battle Dad once. He's not the one to make the same mistakes twice. And Ash isn't a trainer to tread lightly with.''

The brief calm was ended decisively. ''Emboar, let's start things with Hammer Arm!''

One of Emboar's arms drooped at his side, powerful legs launched the pig from his position in record time, a glowing blur of punch reaching to connect with Slaking's muscled body in barely a blink of an eye. The match had just begun. Skidding, the monstrous ape stilled, after raising his head in a glower. Well, that was a decisive way to begun a match.

"Got yourselves a heavy hitter,'' Norman smirked coyly. ''Think that's gonna make a difference.''

"Yeah, it doesn't take long to bust your Slaking open.''

"Here, in Hoenn, size doesn't matter! Slaking, Rock Tomb!''

Slaking nodded in confirmation before reaching down and grabbing two large pieces of debris from the earth's remains. As fast as he could, he observed his opponent's agile movements and proceeded to throw them with all his might towards his grounded adversary.

"Head Smash!'' Ash threw a hand out.

Emboar charged through, head blazing a bright yellow light, the crunching sound made May's stomach turn, as the wild boar thrashed the two boulders, just by smashing them with his head. Emboar grumbled, stiffening and squirming as the recoil damage sapped a chunk of his strength. The ape opposite dropped himself on the ground, lazing around.

"Flamethrower!'' Ash followed up, changing his strategy to an offensive-based one.

The pig pulled his head back, hot embers building in his maw, before spewing them forward in an inferno, tremendous heat washing over Slaking. The ape raised his bulky hands and braced himself for the worst of the imminent impact, resisting the collision without budging an inch.

Norman growled softly, heavily disliking the new situation that he was now stuck in. "Slaking, Slack off!''

Slaking parted his jaws in a loud rumbling yawn. Slacking off was all it had been doing this time. An emerald, caring bath of energy washed over the kong, healing each and every wounds one after the next. Soon enough, Slaking regained his bearings, mostly healed.

"So that's why they call this Gym the toughest. With Bulk up to raise his attacks and defenses, and Slack off at his disposal, no wonder this is a last minute turnover,'' Ash stressed.

Beating up his chests, Slaking challenged.

Ash continued the fight. ''Hammer Arm!''

''boar!'' the fire type exhaled embers before he dashed at the ape, brandishing a glowing arm that was brutally swung towards his opponent.

"Focus Punch!''

What seem to be a disinterested stare was turned into a fierce frown. Slaking quickly sprung into action, remarkable speed, closing the gap between the kong and the boar. His fist was surrounded in bright, blinding light, smashing against the hammer arm. The two appeared to be at a stalemate. Both Pokemon continued to strike with one limb after the next, seemingly matching one another blow for blow. The notable superiority in strength that Slaking held was balanced out by Hammer Arm's superior power to each individual punch. Vigor was clearly shown from both sides, each pushing the other back and forth. Of course, one of them had to falter soon.

And Norman, was ready to take advantage of that. "Grab its arm!''

Ash swallowed, knowing too well where Norman was going with this. His warning was no avail, as two large hands clutched Emboar's giant arm, lifting the fire type for a powerful mat slam.

"Try tickling!'' Ash outstretched an arm.

"Tickling?'' Caroline repeated.

"He's too unpredictable, Mom.'' May sighed.

The fire type wrung its body in conjunction, his digits reaching beyond Slaking's fur to tickle the ape sensitive parts. Eliciting a chuckle that evolved into a thick laughter, Slaking forgot the sense of rivalry, loosening his grip on Emboar. Soon, enough the pig worked himself free, rescued by the fate of a spinal adjustment for the night.

"Head Smash!''

Emboar launched his face for the distracted Slaking, rocking the ape with a powerful strike from his head. The headbutt made Slaking lose his balance on the unsteady debris-covered ground and he tripped before landing heavily on his stomach, panting and coughing. Norman groaned in dismay, incredulously eyeing the fire type with surprise.

"Now that I think about it,'' Ash smirked. ''In Hoenn, size may not matter, but Kanto is one damn full of surprises.''

Norman growled as he clenched his fists. "Slaking, you can do it! Stand up!" he encouraged the Pokémon that was his trump card and last hope against Pokémon Trainer challengers. Slaking slowly used his arms to force himself up as exhaustion and fatigue began to overtake the Pokémon. Emboar had hardly taken any damage, except for his own recoil for two consecutive times.

"Hammer Arm, Emboar, finish this!'' Emboar roared in response to confirm the order, and pounded towards Slaking with an arm ready to bust.

"Just don't do anything drastic, Ash.'' May muttered quickly.

Norman did not like the taunt Ash had fired at him, and it only served to rile up his and Slaking's determinations to continue the battle. "Rock Tomb!''

Slaking nodded, growled, and raised his right fist, smacking the floor hard with it. Numerous boulders sprouted from the floor, striking true against their intended target. The dust and debris finally cleared, revealing a rather disoriented, grunting Emboar, rasping for breath. The rocks had taken a super-effective toll. Dropping upon the floor, Slaking couldn't help it as his complacency wouldn't allow him to continue for a turn.

Emboar smacked the last rock away, finally arising from the pile. These rock types were now beginning to disgust him. First the recoil from his own Head Smash and second the barrage of the rocks it had just took. Even after taking so much damage, Slaking hit like a truck.

"Slack Off!''

Free to pursue his rejuvenation, green light chimered upon the ape, slowly restoring his health once again.

"Fire Pledge!'' Ash switched tactics, a plan long ago formed in his mind.

Emboar snorted, his nostrils exhaling toxic smoke. He pressed his fists against the floor, chanting until a swirl of fire appeared in the center of the field. An array of fiery columns erupted on the field, racing towards the laid Slaking, surrounding him from all corners.

Norman gasped. "What the hell is this?''

The columns orbited around Slaking, before closing in as one giant tower, saturating the ape with flames. The uncomfortable heat pushed the Lazy Pokemon to his feet, as he rumbled on the floor, his hibernation abruptly disturbed.

"Emboar, end this with Head Smash!''

The Lazy Pokemon breathed convulsively and from the flames looked at the giant curtain of dust. There were tremors eating into the layout of the terrain as the massive pig was rumbling towards him, a golden light streaking its head. Emboar crashed into the burning Slaking, a huge blast followed as the energy was released in one strike, the end result shaking the ground and making everyone cover their eyes at the amount of dust the detonation of energy lifted.

May smiled. "It's over," she muttered quickly, yet in a sad tone.

When the blast was over, silence descended across the devastated gym. "No! Slaking!" Norman yelled in concern as the dust began to slowly settle. When visibility was again available, Norman saw the scene he was dreading. Slaking was lying face down in a rather sizeable crater in the rocky debris, his eyes turned to swirls that signaled his unconsciousness. Emboar was standing over him proudly, his arms spread wide in victory. He himself was also panting, exhaustion rippling through him, but he won the fight. He displayed his triumph with immense pride.

Ash cheered happily as he leapt up and down joyously. "We won!"

"pika pi!''

They sprinted towards Emboar, who captured them in a hug.

Norman sighed, knowing it was over. He held up a Pokéball and returned his defeated Slaking. "You did great, my friend…I'm proud of you," he whispered to the Pokéball.

Kenny raised the corresponding flag. "And the winner of this gym battle with a three to one score, due to Emboar and Pikachu still being able to fight, is Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town!" He declared officially.

Norman walked to Ash, a soft smile on his face. "Well Ash, you won fair and square. I already said all I needed to say earlier, so there is nothing new I have to praise for you. " he said, holding a hand out.

"Thanks for a great battle, Norman.'' Ash smiled back.

May hummed. "You know dad, Ash beat you and he didn't use his strongest Pokémon, you're losing your touch," she teased.

Norman sweatdropped. "Thanks for pointing that out May," he returned uncertainly. "And you wonder why I am looking for an heir to the Gym. So, Ash," he began as means to stir up a conversation. "We still can go out for a beer, can't we? Get to know each other a little more and catch up. There's a tavern down the road. You are leaving tomorrow anyways."

"Sure why not?'' Ash didn't see any fault with the request. "Although, alcohol isn't gonna improve my chances if you're gonna be on the fence about this loss.''

"Dad, it's almost late.'' May reminded, not particularly enthralled by the idea. "And Ash, haven't you had enough last night?''

"Come on babe. Just one beer. I also have to stock up. I'll bob up some for you as well for tomorrow.'' Ash turned over to the matriarch. "You don't mind, right?''

"I think it's a terrific idea,'' Caroline allowed. ''You guys have fun.''

"To my future son-in-law, down the hatch!'' Norma cheered.

"Future son-in-law, eh?'' Ash scratched his cheek.

"And by the time, you folks will be back, May will be done packing and the bed will be ready.'' Caroline informed.

"Oh Caroline, you don't have to make Max's bed,'' Ash hesitantly declined, ''I am comfortable on the couch.''

"Oh now,'' Caroline refuted. ''It's not like we don't know how serious both of you already are,'' she pointed out, noticing May's flustered red cheeks. "I was talking about you sleeping in May's bed.''

"Oh…so where's May gonna sleep?'' Ash asked, dense mind still not thawed.

"She means that we can sleep next to one another!'' May rolled her eyes in embarrassment and surreptitiously scooted away.

"Really, you don't mind?'' Ash blinked.

"Not at all, but we kind have had a hard day and would appreciate some good sleep,'' Caroline poked Ash's nose. ''So please don't get any ideas you two. I don't wanna be a grandmother at this age but don't be too long in the process.''

May's face intensified, fiery cheeks puffed. ''Mom, why are you bringing that up!?''

"Oh, don't worry Caroline…we already …I mean, yeah sure, I'll keep my hands to myself…'' Ash lost his words, hanging his face down, Pikachu mimicking his trainer.

"So let's go!'' Norman patted Ash's back

"Don't be too late okay,'' May whispered seductively in Ash's ear, planting a kiss on his cheek.

"Yeah, you got it.'' Ash rubbed his nose against her and pulled away, accompanying Norman out of the Gym.

Allowing me to sleep with May around. Wow, these guys must be desperate to have a grandchild too. Maybe it's just what people want after checking forty.

As night fell the blue haze of day lifted to reveal the stars. One beer what was promised, May would never know how much was his actual intake. She waited patiently, resting on the bed, while he exited the bathroom, drying his hair off. The need to rest was growing in their bones and muscles, the weary feeling could not be assuaged or that will simply evaporate with the rise of the sun next morn. Ash sighed tiredly, handing the towel by the chair, and slumping on the bed.

"Seems like today went really good.'' May began. "Mom and I had a little chat. She seems pretty excited about this.''

"Good to hear.'' Ash twisted his body to face her. ''You know, I was pretty strung to face them, but it all went smooth. They loved me so much, I think they wanted to adopt me.''

"You wish…just Max is enough to make Dad's head go white.''

"No seriously,'' Ash laid down on the mattress, facing her. ''I wouldn't mind calling your folks every now and then. I simply loved them tonight.''

"You have no idea how happy that makes me.''

"Quirky people, aren't these middle aged guys. Lively and free as a Taillow.'' Ash chuckled, squishing his head against the pillow. ''Makes me remind of my Mom and mother in law.''

"Someday we'll be there too,'' May hummed, resting her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

"Yeah, we're gonna rock,'' Ash brushed her hair. ''You know when I said your parents might want to adopt me.''

"Yeah…''

"So that would make us brother and sister…does it turn you on to or is it just me?''

"You're fucking sick…'' May groused, rolling over to the other side of the bed, distancing herself from Ash.

"Maybe it's just me…''

"Just sleep, Ash!'' May muttered, trying to sleep.

"Should I go solo? I'll be real quiet.'' Ash

May turned around to give him the dirtiest, hostile look over. Ash gulped, lump caught in a throat. So, that was a no..

"Is Max's room available?''

Sinnoh region – the first of all the regions that was created on Earth. A breathtaking republic in the corners of the world. The land of origin, the land of myth and the land of mystery. A colossal tourist place with spectacular scenery and incredible culture, that attracts people all over the world. Here is where the bond between Pokemon and humans are strengthened and companionship tested. The high mountains, crystal-clear lakes and wide-open spaces set it far apart from the hustle, bustle and city lights of Kanto.

The trip from Hoenn to Sinnoh by charter flight seemed to didn't last long than five hours, with excitement building in Ash's beating heart. The sun still labored to climb over the horizon, a blurred and flattened buttery yellow blob across an infinite stretch of pale gray-blue melting into the rich abyssal navy of night. From the plane, the view below was ecstatic. The brightest of the stars remained in the sky, ever defiant yet fading in the presence of the sun. Mirroring this, the waters below remained dark, lit only by the eerie distant gleam the jewels of curious young Chinchou that lit the ocean below gold.

They had arrived in the region by the early morning around 10 am. The flight landed on the runaway of Jubilife Airport. It was a frigid winter that morning. Cool mist had welcomed them at the airport as they disembarked the plane. While Ash was still discussing something with the pilot, May was the first one to descend the mobile escalators. The couple had not yet forgotten that it was still January, and it would be smart not to show any of the skin, except for the face. Not even the fingers. They were well aware of the chilly snowstorms in Sinnoh, however this was the tourist season. Absently, she wondered if this was Sinnoh in January, what would Snowpoint City's condition would be.

Outside the airport, they stepped into the winter wonderland. The only source of heat was the terminal behind, that had the radiators on. If they could see, feel, smell and taste, this could only be possible in Sinnoh region. May finished dragging the last luggage bag. The only one thrilled for the snow amongst them was Glaceon. There wasn't as much as crowd in the early holiday morning, which made their job easier to hire a cab. Sure enough, the metropolis disappeared behind them, becoming a small dot from the sprawling expanse of urban paradise. Buildings of all shapes and sizes stabbed at the sky, where now diminishing as the mountains came into travelling hours passed by, as due to the snow, some of the roads were blocked, and the snow was still brewing. The drive was with a mild monotony, the only entertainment was being served by the radio inside the warm cab.

While the roads in southern Sinnoh were mostly clear, patches of frost were present on the endless lines of trees that bordered these roads. Odds were that in the northernmost city of Sinnoh, the people were snowed in. The cold had even forced them to empty the weights of their luggage and put on some extra layers of woolen clothes. Finally the small town, came into view as Ash politely asked the driver to halt the taxi right in front of the two storey pink house on the gates of the countryside. The House of the Berlitz.

The couple got off, thanking and paying the driver, the process continued until only them and their Pokemon were left on the snow blanketed road. Suddenly the cold air stung May's cheeks as she pulled her scarf up close to her face. Everything seemed quiet, and the only sound they could hear was the crunching of their shoes as they trudged their way to the porch. The smell of the damp pine trees made the air fresh and clean. The modern house is beauty in concrete. It is clean straightness and white. It is big windows that promise bold light. From the opposite side of the door, the couple could already savor the aroma of hot chocolate and baked cookies, as if they were the tools of survival in this harsh weather.

A knock on the door sparked a connection from outside world to the four walls inside and to every moving person inside it.

"...and now for the last story on the Bulletin, Inspector Lookers is still digging into investigation to find out the identity of the gang behind the crime scene. The good news is that all the Pokemon captured by the poachers are now safe and have been handed over to the PTP. Keep watching, Sinnoh Gazette for more info and updates. Now for Sports…

"How terrible," Johanna remarked, sipping from a cup of tea. Her judgement was put on hold by a knock on the door.

"Oh that must be Dawn.'' Johanna blinked, setting the cup down, and standing up to approach the door. "The girl keeps forgetting her keys.''

"meow…'' Glameow revolved around her legs, as she too followed her mistress, somehow, every reprimand from the mother to the daughter gave her some sort of joy.

When she twisted and pulled the handle, she was greeted with some familiar faces she hadn't seen in a long time.

"Happy New Year Johanna! Is Dawn Home?''

Well, that's it for now. The second chapter to Sinnoh arc done and dusted. Dawn is now all set to appear in the next chapter, and there's gonna be a lot of catching up. May's career is gonna be discussed in detail in the next while Ash and Dawn will entertain themselves to a battle. Also remember, Dawn is meeting Ash after ten years too, so be ready for an Ash bashing.

Something you want me to write, please plug in your ideas in the reviews or PM me, and I would take it under advisement. And I always give a 100% return to your ideas.

From here on now, every chapter will have a battle scene, just to complete the chapter, however it's gonna be more than that. It's not gonna be like the chapters with the inception. As I said, I am concentrating more on writing about Advanceshipping.

Also, one review says I should stop kvetching about Goh. I agree. I too am tired. It's not like I am ever gonna see a range of episodes in culmination that doesn't feature Goh. But the question is not when Ash's time will come. The questions are – why his time was threaded and two, when is Goh's time gonna stop.

Q&A

Why is Ash's career a tech business magnate? He doesn't just play into the part.

I agree. I see a lot of myself in Ash, and I was trying to explore a new role for him. I have a undying interest in the field of technology and engineering and wanted to design and decorate him as someone who knows Computers, Science and AI inside out. We all derive his personality from a ten year old character. Not in canon, but someday he's gonna grow up. Plus, it's not easy to write someone being a billionaire. It's much more harder than conception. I didn't wanna write him the same as others portray him in their stories.

Is there gonna be Lucas?

No. I am done with game characters. There won't be anyone from Lucas to Gloria.

Is there gonna be a Grand Festival?

Definitely.

Serena is dead. But she dies as Ash's wife. What about Braxien, Pancham and Sylveon?

Being used by Ash in upcoming Gym battles.

With all of Ash's Pokemon evolved, they are tougher than before. Are there any Pokemon that Ash will catch in the near future canonically that are unevolved?

If he catches a Pokemon in the series in the future, for example a Rookidee, I am gonna make it star as a Corviknight. If I continue as Rookidee in one chapter, and the anime has already evolved it to last stage, I will have to go through extra efforts of story time for Rookidee to make it evolve into a Corviknight. I am aware some of those elements are missing but I am gonna rectify it with May and her Pokemon.

Thank you!
