Constance jumped slightly at the shouting of both her daughter and Jane. "Jane... you need to be in school."
"And Maura needs to be here in Boston, Mrs. Isles. This is her home now."
"No offense Jane, but this is a family matter it doesn't concern you. In fact Maura you go to school with Jane and we'll talk more about this later..."
"But mother..."
"Later, I promise, now go, enjoy the last remaining hours in Boston, I'll pack for you."
"This isn't fair mother, he has an affair and I'm the one being punished."
"This isn't a punishment sweetie, please just go."
"Fine, come on Jane, let's go," Maura grabbed Jane by her good arm before they walked out of the door.
"Maura, this is crap, you can't move."
"I'm not going to New York with mother, and I'm not going to school today either."
"Well, where are you going then?"
"Wherever the road takes us."
"You're running away?"
"No, I'm not running away, we're running away. You and me, now get in the car."
Jane looked at her girlfriend, "When I called you a rebel earlier I thought it was kind of hot, now you're scaring me."
Maura stopped, "Please don't be scared, Jane, I can't and won't let us be apart that far from each other. We can't work on us if we're in different states."
Jane nodded, "Alright but I still need to be at home by the end of the day. I don't want Ma to worry, and Coach Korsak spends so much time at my house he'll tell my mother I didn't go to school today."
Maura looked at her girlfriend, giving it some thought. "I'll drop you off at school, I wouldn't want you getting into trouble. Then I can pick you up after school so Korsak knows you went and won't tell your mother anything."
"And where exactly are you going to go?" Jane didn't like this plan of hers.
"Doing what I can to make sure I can stay right here in Boston, I promise Jane I'll come up with a solution I need to, I agree that I shouldn't live with my father but I am not going back to New York City, that's just not an option," Maura got into the car and Jane followed suit.
Jane was pretty much anxious the whole way to school. When they pulled up Jane glanced over at Maura, "Are you going to be alright Maura?"
"Yeah, just go to school, learn some stuff and see you afterwards," she leaned over to press her lips against Jane's, resting her hand on her cheek. "I love you so much. Everything is going to be okay, I'll make sure of it."
"I hope you know what you're doing, stay safe and remember to breathe. I'm kind of worried about you."
"Don't be, now go," she sent Jane a reassuring smile, the brunette just nodded before leaving the car. She watched as Maura drove away before heading to class to get started on her day even though she'd rather be with Maura, but the last thing she needed was getting grounded for skipping school.
Jane carried along with her day, Maura never leaving her mind. The day came and went, after school was over, Korsak asked Jane to stay for a bit longer. She figured she could while she waited for Maura to show up.
"What's up Korsak?" Jane asked, sitting down on the edge of the man's desk.
"Your mother and I wanted to talk to you about something, it's sort of serious," the man starts.
"She's not pregnant, is she?"
Korsak chuckled nervously, "No she's not, I mean I hope not. Not that it would be a bad thing just that's not what we need."
"Okay dude calm down, it was a simple question."
"Yeah anyways, your mother and I decided that there needs to be a change in scenery. We were thinking that, well it was more of my idea but she agreed with me whole heartedly. She wants to move out of your family house, of course she wants you kids to come and well your mother and I really like each other and having two places to live is such a hassle. And since Frank owns the house and is in jail, the bank plans to foreclose it."
Jane stared at the man, "Um okay... have either of you thought this through? Sure you're at our house all of the time, but Ma is technically still married to Pop and it just seems unethical in all sort of aspects."
Korsak rested his hand on Jane's shoulder, "I love your mother very much and I known her for a while. This doesn't mean we're going to get hitched or anything, just we'd be living together under one roof, you, her, me and your brothers. It's a very nice house and there aren't any stairs you'd have to go up. It'll mean a lot to me if you thought about it, we want you to be okay with this, she thinks you won't be."
"A change would be nice, but it's the house I grew up in and I live right next to Frost... wait he won't be my neighbor anymore... I don't know about that Vince there's too much change going on Korsak... I just... Maura might be moving back to New York City with her mother I just got her back this morning."
"Jane I'm really sorry to hear that, was that why she wasn't in class today?"
"Yeah, she wanted to go get options, figure out something so she doesn't have to move, I'm not sure what that is exactly but I can't lose her Coach. That's the last thing I want."
"Who knew young love could be so dramatic these days."
Jane stared at the man for a moment, "Is it possible Korsak..."
"Is what possible?"
"Would it be acceptable if maybe Maura can come live with us at your place, I mean as a last resort type of situation?"
Korsak looked at Jane and shrugged, "I mean I'm all for Maura not moving to New York, you'd be miserable and that's never any fun. But it won't be up to me, that'd be up to your mother and hers, we'll put the idea on the back burner though. Knowing Maura she's smart enough to come up with something."
"Yeah plus she wanted to experience a public school setting, she'd be in the city going back to private school," Jane sighed, feeling her phone go off in her pocket.
"Jane, it's me Maura... I hate to do this to you, but mother found out I skipped school and she's not exactly happy. She wants me home to talk so I won't be able to pick you up, I'm sorry but I'll call you as soon as the talk is over. Okay?"
"Yeah um okay, I think coach Korsak will take me home then. You promise that you'll call me? Even maybe stop by."
"I'll see what I can do Jane, okay? Bye, I really need to go, love you," she said before hanging up.
"Yeah bye," Jane frowned putting the phone in her pocket. "Looks like you're driving me home, if you don't mind."
"Of course not, let's go. We can pick up some pizza for dinner on the way home."
Jane just nodded, putting on her backpack and going with Korsak, both of her brothers were waiting by Korsak's car.
"About time Korsak, we were here for twenty minutes," Tommy lightly scolded.
"Don't be an ass Thomas," Frankie elbowed him in the ribcage, causing his younger brother to hiss in discomfort. Jane shook her head at her brother's antics, always messing with each other. Her mind going back to Maura as they drove to the nearest pizza place to pick up some food.
Maura sat in her parent's driveway for a few minutes, today started out so well and then it just got worse and she felt as worse as ever. She just got Jane talking to her again and they were going to work on their relationship. All day Maura had been looking for a place to stay, she looked at apartments and even seen some nice condos but they were quite pricey and she knew her mother wouldn't let her stay by herself here in Boston.
She seen her mother come standing on the patio, waving her daughter over. Maura sighed, getting out of the car and walking up to Constance. They were both silent until they got inside. "Maura, I really wish that you didn't skip school today if you weren't going to help me pack at least. What was so important you had to do to miss school?"
"I was looking at how I can stay in Boston so I didn't have to move back to the big city. What you're asking me to do isn't fair. We moved here because we all agreed it would be a good place for me to have the whole high school experience."
Constance sighed, "I know sweetheart, but things are much different now then they were before we moved. I don't trust your father and I don't want you to be alone in this house with him, especially if he decides to have his mistress here. I'm sorry sweetie... but I already talked to your old school and they are happy to let you go back, no hassle necessary."
"Jane's my whole life mother, I can't just leave her, it's already going to be hard once I start going to college after I graduate. I can't just abandon her."
"Sweetie, you aren't going to abandon her, you don't have to just drop your relationship that's not what I expect you to do. Angela agrees with me that you should be with family, that you should be where I am at least until graduation."
"You talked to Jane's mother?"
"I called over to her house to ask if she seen you when I got a call from the school that you weren't there. She asked why and then I told her all that's going on. She even agreed that on some weekends Jane could come to New York to visit."
Maura crossed her arms, "It still doesn't make sense, why go back to New York when we can just look for another place or at least kick father out since it's all his doing anyways. Mother you don't understand I am not going to be forced to move just because of this, and if you have a problem with that, it's too bad. Maybe I will just stay here with father, he may be the cause of all this but he wouldn't be making me choose."
"This isn't a discussion Maura, we're going back to New York and that's final."
"No Mother, I'm 18 and I technically don't have to listen to you or have you make any more decisions for me. I'm sorry father had an ongoing affair but dragging me into this mess is just as bad, maybe even worse. You're not listening to me, you just want to run away when things get bad. And that's not who I am, I'm not going to run away, I thought about it earlier today but I realized how immature that was."
"Maura I wish you would just understand why you can't stay here."
"You don't understand why I can't just drop my life here and go back with you. This is the last time I'm saying this, but I'm not leaving Boston."
Constance looked down at her daughter, "Fine Maura, you want to be so difficult stay here then. I just don't want you to make a mistake."
"It would be a mistake if I left Boston. Mother I'm going to miss you, but what you're asking me to do just isn't fair. Father is hardly here anyways, neither are you. I hope you come to your senses and not just run away from your problems. I'd really like to go see Jane now, can I go?"
Constance sighed in defeat, she knew this was a battle that had been lost. Maura was right though she was 18 and didn't have to follow her orders or force her to move. "Yeah, sure Maura. Have a good time, I'll call to let you know when I make it to the city."
Maura hugged her mother, and left the house and got into her car, taking a deep breath and sighing in relief. I can stay in Boston, I can stay with Jane. Thank God. She sat up straight and started her car, heading to the Rizzoli household.
Things will be strained with Maura and Constance that's for sure, but good news Maura gets to stay in Boston, that's a good thing for everyone. Jane will be super excited it'll be adorable I'm sure. Until next time folks, just a reminder that your kind words go a long way for motivation.
