A/N: Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to write this story. I was just busy working and just focusing on my mental health but I finally did it. I got asked to write Jane and Bella meeting so here we have it. This is only rated M for the language, no smut for this one.
Disclaimer: I do not own these Characters for they belong to Stephanie. Also there is explicit language.
"Come on Bells, you got school soon and if you sleep any later there won't be any spaces left in the lot." Charlie's voice muffles though the door as he knocks on loudly to rouse me from my sleep.
"I'm up, jeez." I speak loudly as to get him to hear through my shut door. He must hear it as I can hear soft footsteps travel down the hall and down the stairs.
I get out of bed and walk towards my closet to grab my clothes I want to wear. I settle on a simple pair of black skinny jeans, a white T-shirt with a plaid open shirt over it. I head into the bathroom, set my clothes on the counter and turn the shower on to hot. Whilst I waited for the water to warm, I brushed my teeth and rinsed out my mouth before stripping and getting into the shower.
After spending longer than I should in the shower, enjoying the tranquility of the peacefulness, I got dressed and walked back into my bedroom to grab my bag. Looking at the clock by my bed to see if I had enough time for breakfast, I quickly shout, "FUCK!" Seems I had spent a little too long in the shower and am now praying I get to school on time.
Rushing down the stairs and falling at the bottom step, I burst into the kitchen to say goodbye to Charlie. He, however, had other ideas by talking with me, "So Bells, I was planning on taking a trip to see Billy and Jacob later tonight, fancy coming with me?" He asked as he took a sip of his coffee in his uniform.
"Uh, yeah totally. I just gotta run so see ya." I say as I quickly grab an banana and a protein bar. I run out the front door and down the driveway to my truck. I get in and make the way to school as quick as possible without breaking any speeding laws. I got there 1 minute before the bell goes. I got out of the truck whilst eating my banana, hoping I wouldn't feel too hungry towards lunch.
"Hey Bells, what got you so late?" Mike comes up to my truck and throws his arm around my shoulders, knocking the rest of my banana to the floor. "Oh I'm so sorry Bella." He says as I look longingly at my banana, having only eaten a third of it. I shrug and keep walking to the door when the bell goes. Off to first period I guess.
What feels like endless hours later, the lunch bell rings. Luckily I share my last lesson with both Angela and Eric so we all grab lunch together. Walking into the cafeteria I remember I left my packed lunch at home and groan, loudly. Looks like I'm eating what the school calls lunch but I call hell.
"This looks like it came out of a zombie movie." Eric grimaces as he has the meatloaf placed on his tray. Seeing it (and agreeing with him) I decide to just skip the lunch and go to the vending machine to grab a bar of chocolate and bag of chips for lunch. I thank the high heavens that I saved my protein bar this morning giving me a bit more food. Moving towards the table that already had Mike and Jessica on it, I place my things down and glance at the two 'lovebirds'.
"All I'm saying Mike is you could spend more time at weekends with me." Jessica moans as she pulls what she thinks are cute puppy dog eyes at Mike which really just looks like she's in pain. Mike looks around as he rubs his neck and just hums.
"Yeah, but I got work at the store and homework and yeah." He mutters as he tries to get out of the conversation he's in. Angela and Eric join me as Jessica berates Mike for not spending time with her.
Angela leans in to me as she whispers, "You'd think for how much she's complaining about her being with him more, she'd stop complaining and be with him." I softly agree and open my chips up.
The three of us not involved in the lovebird quarrel start to discuss going to catch a film at the weekend and what we wanted to see when the five people that everyone either fears or loves walk in. Simply not bothered unlike everyone else I finish eating my chips while grabbing a sip of Angela's water which receives a soft "hey" in protest.
The dude with brown hair was kinda pissing me off. He keeps staring at me every lunchtime that I'm now considering eating in my truck but lord knows he'd probably find me there too. What's this guys deal? The blonde chick who seems to think she's too big for school hits his chest and pokes his tray with her own fork that never really seems to touch her mouth.
"Seems you have an admirer." Scares Bella out of her internal debate of being in her truck tomorrow for lunch, looking towards Jessica who's twirling the ends of her hair in her fingers looking a little more neutral. When did they stop their discussion? Anyway I look at Jessica and just scoff and brush it off hoping it's not true, not having the time to deal with that nonsense and also playing for the wrong team.
"So, movies? Friday night? 6pm?" Angela asks everyone getting their attention from me and the creep as she can see how tense I am. Thank god for Angela. Everyone then restarts the conversation and I tune out the rest until the bell rings again. The day passes quick enough and I'm back in my truck ready to head home.
I walk through my front door and just grab a bottle of water from the fridge. Putting my bag by a chair, I sit down and do the days homework so it's less for later. Time passes quickly and I finish just as I hear Charlie's cruiser pull up outside.
"Bells? I'm guessing you're home," Charlie shouts from the front door as soon as he walks in. I walk out the kitchen with my water bottle and give him a small wave. "I'll just get changed and we'll head down to Billy's yeah? He was planning on having a barbecue later on which I thought we'd stay for." I mutter my okay as he rushes up the stairs to his room. Sitting on the couch I start to think over my English project due in 2 weeks. Grabbing a piece of paper and pen from the table, I start to make some notes as Charlie bounds down the stairs and claps his hands. "Let's go then shall we?"
I stand up and we both head for the cruiser. There's awkward silence in the car but with time I think it'll get easier. Arriving quickly to the reserve, we both get out the car as Jacob and Billy walk out their front door.
"Bella! So glad you came," Jacob runs up to me and gives me a hug. He's so hot to the touch, maybe he's running a fever. I pull away as he gives me a soft smile, knowing what it means. "I hope you're staying for the night. We got lots of things going on."
"Oh not the night Jacob, I got school tomorrow." I say as I would hate to sleep over somewhere unfamiliar. He just laughs at me and shakes his head. Billy then calls us to follow him to where everyone else is with me and Jacob at the rear of it all.
"So, how's school?" Jacob asks as he bumps my shoulder with his. "I bet it's boring without my awesome presence." Getting a little too confident there, eh?
"It's cool. Made some nice friends. I got a grip for the school and the classes. There's a few guys here and there but nothing I can't handle." I say, getting closer to the bonfire surrounded by a big group of people.
"Guys? Are you interested in any of them? Are they respectful, if not I'll gladly hit them for you." He grunts, cracking his knuckles together with a tense face. I laugh and just shake my head.
"No. There's just Mike Newton, but he wouldn't hurt a fly. It's just a mild infatuation, I think. Anyway, then there's Edward Cullen. He just keeps watching me at lunch and I just think it's weird. We've never spoken or even passed each other but he keeps staring like he's looking into my soul. It's creepy as hell." I say as a shiver runs down my back thinking of him.
"Uhm. What?!" Jacob exclaims as he stops walking and grabs my elbow with his hand, stopping me too. "Bella, the Cullens are dangerous, stay away from them. I don't want you getting hurt. They're bad company." Jacob gets this angry look as he begins to shake. I just murmur that I'll be okay and keep walking towards my dad and Billy. I wonder what his deal is with the Cullens. I've never seen them on the reserve so they can't be close surely.
"So Bella this is everyone. I'm sure they'll introduce themselves to you but everyone this is Bella. You all already know Charlie. Let's make her feel welcome, yes?" Billy states as everyone now turns to look at me, making me blush and scratch at my cheek.
Hours later and many introductions later, the food gets served and everyone starts to finally chill and lose some of the energy they had going on. I dig into my hotdog as I look up and see Jacob practically swallowing his whole, which surprises and scares me thinking he'd choke. He was fine.
"Bella, will you come somewhere with me? I have to show you something." Jacob comes up to me after we had eaten and holds his hand out to me expectantly. I hesitantly grab his hand as he leads me towards the woods close by. We walk for 10 minutes as we come to a stop on a little cliff edge.
"This is my safe place Bella. I want to share it with you." He says looking at the water below us. It truly is beautiful, the water not Jacob. I give him my thanks as we take a seat on the grass by the edge.
"Jacob, can I ask you a question?" I blurt out while playing lunch and Jacob's words earlier over in my head. I really wanna know why the hell the Cullens are dangerous.
"I mean you just did but sure you can," Jacob chuckles at his own joke which receives an eye roll from me. "Why are the Cullens 'dangerous'?"
"It's a long story Bella, I can't explain it. There's just a lot of things behind why they are dangerous, why? You're not planning on being around them are you?" He gives me a sharp look, assuming I want to befriend them clearly. I just want to know if I should avoid the creeper at all costs, though I probably should anyway.
"We have time. Explain it to me. I want to know why they are the way they are. You can't say they're dangerous to me when we attend the same school. Do you know how much that is gonna put me on edge? Make me constantly overthink my actions and whereabouts in case of any danger lurking around the corners, literally." I counted back. I won't stand for being treated like a kid. I'm a big girl, I can handle it. Kind of.
Jacob just huffs and pulls his knees up to his chest and rests his chin on them. "Okay so you know our tribe has like a million legends. Well they are one of them. The cold ones. They tend to stick by themselves and a long time ago, things like them attacked our tribe leaving us in peril. We had to rebuild our lives back from what they destroyed. They can't be trusted. Who knows what they might do next?"
Cold ones. Never heard that one before. Not even as a kid that Billy's dad used a bedtime story when I slept over. What did that even mean? Did they have medical problems? Maybe a mental health issue. Whatever it is, I don't want to be attacked. By anyone or anything. I like my limbs where they are despite my innate clumsiness.
"So, I should avoid them then?" I ask just to see his reaction if he reacted so strongly to a simple legend. He gave me a murderous look that made me hold both my hands out and just chuckled. He's so easy to get a rise out of.
"Listen, Bella, while we're here I'd like to ask you a question now," Jacob states nervously as he shifts to face me now crouching on one knee practically. "Would you go out with me? Be my girlfriend?" He asks as he looks at me through the his long lashes. Phew so it's not a proposal. Still just as bad though.
"I'm sorry Jacob. I can't. I'm sorry but I'm gay. I would but I can't knowing that I'm a lesbian." I softly say, trying to ease the news to him.
"You're...what?!" He shouts as he steps back from me with a look of disgust. "But you never even showed signs of being interested in women and now all of a sudden you just happen to like them. Well, I can't be associated with that nonsense." And he walks into the woods with an angry face on him.
What he said truly hurt me. Was he homophobic? Did he think that love was strictly male and female? Whatever it was, he left me stranded with no idea on how to get back to my dad and his comfort. I set off into the darkness of the woods and hope for the best. I reach into my Jean pocket to grab my phone to realise I left it in my backpack at home. Great day for forgetting things huh Bella?
Hearing a rustle a little bit away from me I stop and glance towards it. "Who's there? Jacob if it's you it's not funny." I scoff as I place my hand on my hip impatiently waiting for him to show himself. "Jake, just stop the joke. I know it's you. Just stop hid-" My words get cut off as a rabbit jumps through the foliage.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I pick my foot up to take another step as I hear a deep, rough growl in the same direction of the rabbit. Now rabbits don't make the noise, so what is it? A mountain lion then starts to stalk her as she takes a few steps backwards. Where's Jacob when you need his protection most?
Looking into the lions eyes, I stare for a second...then make a dash into the dark shadows of the trees, hopefully in the right direction. As suspected, the lion followed her and of course it caught up to her, it's a lion for goodness sake.
"Shit." I exhale as the lion starts to stalk me again and I'm backed against a tree. Nowhere to move. Nowhere to go. Now isn't this a way to go? Who's gonna find me? Will they ever find me? All these thoughts pass and I look towards the lion again only to be less than 6 feet away. In two seconds, the lion pounces and grabs a hold of my left arm and pierces it with its large canines. Instantly feeling the pain, I grasp my arm to my stomach and try my hardest to see a way out. Looking through the trees, I can see a flicker of orange and red. The bonfire! As I make a step towards it, the lion pounces again and grabs my right shoulder, biting into it as their claws rake down my right side of my torso.
Suddenly I hear a scary snarl come from in the trees. Now it seemed to scare the lion off as I am now eating a pile full of dirt from their large paws after I fell to the ground in pain. Trying to focus on what's lurking in the trees I don't hear the thud next to me as the source drops down.
"Wow. Uhm listen I'm going to try and help you? What's your name?" The source asks as I try and turn my head but it's too painful because of my shoulder. "Bella. It's Bella." I quickly gasp as everywhere is just aching and burning.
"Okay Bella, listen I know this may be scary but if you try and move you are going to bleed out and I-we can't have that. So the scary part is I can save you, but it will cost you a lot of things." The voice says as I feel a cold hand swipe some blood covered hair from around my neck and shoulder. I just nod my head vehemently, not caring the cost as long as I don't die. "Here goes nothing."
Two seconds later I feel a large burning sensation happening on my neck. I can't help the groan that leaves. "I'm so sorry Bella." I hear the voice say but can't reply as the burning starts to travel even further over my entire body. If this is saving me, what's dying feel like?
"I'm so sorry." Is the last thing I hear before I black out and go stiff on the ground floor.
After what feels like forever in pain, I recognise I'm no longer in the woods lying in the dirt. In fact I think I was moved during my eternal inferno happening in my body. And I think a plane was involved. How? I have no idea but I recognised the noises associated before the agony started again.
"Bella," I hear this melodious voice say softly into the air, "you're safe now." Safe? From what? Oh yes the lion that was out for my head. Now thinking of it, where in the world am I? I'm clearly not dead if I'm still breathing, albeit I don't feel my heart beating. Wait...I don't-
"What's going on? Why can't I hear my heart? Why is- holy shit!" I stop my questions as I open my eyes only for it to feel like the first time ever. Everything's so clear, I can see everything. From a crack in the ceiling that's so minuscule that I bet it's recently been put there to all the dust particles floating before my eyes. All 542 of them in this room. Looking around, getting used to the new sight I mysteriously got bestowed upon me, a small, dark figure shifts from the red leather chair in the corner of the room.
"It's a long story. When you feel ready, I'm going to take you to see somebody who can explain this whole ordeal better. Is that okay with you?" The figure asks, not moving an inch of their body towards me. I just mutter my consent and continue to look around.
"Who are you? I'm sorry I can't sit in silence with you here, a complete stranger." I question, a bit bluntly I suppose. But then the figure has a name, "Jane."
I think I'm in love with the name. It's so simple. Kinda how she's treating me I guess. Old fashioned and careful. Like any old plain Jane should be I guess.
"Shall we go and get you some information fed to you? You look curious enough anyway." 'Jane' asks me as she finally stands up and wow is she short. She steps over to the bed and holds a single hand out to me and pulls me off it and towards the door, not even showing signs of letting go of my hand.
Stepping out the door, I let go of hers considering we both couldn't fit through together and wait for her to leave also. Jane starts to lead us down multiple hallways and it's like a maze. I'm never good at mazes. I got lost in one in Arizona when I was 11. Never. Again.
"Ahh, you're awake. Jane, lovely to see you." Some man exclaims as soon as Jane opens some big ass doors into this fancy room with three old looking men and three thrones and a bunch of random people lurking on the outside of the room. Jane puts her hand on the small of my back, sending tingles which I try to ignore, and urges me towards the three men.
The man in the middle walks down the steps leading to the thrones and holds his hand out to Jane. Wait, they aren't together are they? Talk about paedophilia. The man then turns to me and holds his hand out. Not knowing what to do, I just copy Jane and hope for the best.
"No, my dear one, Jane and I are not romantically involved. She is simply one of the most respected people in this very room." He states as soon as he drops my hand. How in the world does he know that?
"I'm guessing you want to know what's happened, do you not?" Another man says from behind the weird one. I give a simple nod as he gives a hum. "Well, Aro and Marcus will best explain it. I'm not good at explaining how's and why's" Wow, this guy is blunt. I like it.
"Caius, leave the girl be. She doesn't need to know everything right now even if you did explain it. However, I agree with your statement. We shall explain to you the events." The last older looking man croaks out. He gestures to the bench placed in the middle of the room and I take a seat.
"Have you noticed any changes at all since you awoke." The one who practically read my mind asks, settling into his throne again as Jane sits beside me on the bench.
"Uhm, my eyesight is incredible like I probably won't even need my reading glasses for when I'm tired. There's a burning sensation in my throat but it's not too painful right now. I also passed a mirror on the way in and I've changed in a few ways." Like my tits but that's not what they asked.
"Well I'm Aro, that's Marcus and well, Caius. We are a group of people called the Volturi. Now we run a special kind of kingdom here. We are a group of what you call Vampires." Aro states with a pointed look and a soft voice. Probably trying to have me not freak out. I'm in a room. Full of vampires. Wait,
"Are you saying I'm a vampire now?" I almost shout but stop myself short of it. Practically everyone nods and Caius even snorts back a laugh, clearly finding my shock funny. I give a sharp glare and Caius somehow freezes on the spot. I hear the room gasp which breaks me out of my stupor and Caius begins to move again.
"What was that, young one? It appears you may have a gift." Aro says with a large smile, putting me more on edge than in comfort. I shrug, not really knowing what I did but also feeling a tingle in my head as if I was the one froze.
"Let the girl be. Jane, why don't you take her to your quarter and let her settle before we start to pump her full of new information and Aro uses her as a new test project, which won't be happening. We shall call you for feeding time." Marcus lowly states with a pointed look in Aro's direction as he stands up from his throne and raises his arm towards the door.
Jane leads me back through the door and halls and when we reach her door, she grabs my hand and says, "You may not know it but you will enjoy it here. It's hard to adapt but you'll see. There's more to this life than you think. I'll be there to guide you. I promise. And I never promise to anyone. I'm no softie but you are not just anyone anymore."
I had to leave it there. I was contemplating making this a multiple shot and maybe writing Bella learning about the vampire world and her power and getting closer to Jane. I hope you liked this story and if any of the words look different it's because I'm British and haven't proofread my work so I have no idea if it looks authentic but it shall do for now. Until next time, B x
