Chapter 1: Diagnosis and Awakening.

Izuku sighs as he writes down in his notebook. His fascination with heroes and their Quirks has been a constant in his life. Ever since he was diagnosed as Quirkless when he was four, his life has been one hurtle after another.

His ultimate goal, his dream, his very existence for living is to be a hero. Not just any hero, he wanted to be the best hero there is, like his personal idol, All Might. See, the thing is, in this society he's living in, being a superhero is an actual job, there's even a set up of schools to teach you how to be one.

This of course, has led to many individuals becoming heroes merely because they want to be rich and/or famous. Izuku is different, he wishes to become a hero, merely because he wants to help people, simple as that.

His calculating eyes gaze over the hero that he's currently viewing; Kamui Woods.

'Hmm, his Quirk allows him to control wood, appropriate; given his name.'

Suddenly, a giant foot comes down and flattens the villain. He and everyone looks up to see a giant woman standing there. He narrows his eyes, it's the giant hero, Mt. Lady.

'Pathetic, she's only a hero for fame.'

He sighs, 'Why is it that heroes these days only care about themselves and not saving people?'

Deciding that he's seen enough, Izuku turns and walks off. As he walks home, his thoughts turn to his mother. His mother is the one person he cares about most. After he was diagnosed as Quirkless, everyone seemed to just write him off, even his own father. Hiashi just decided that he didn't want to have to deal with the stigma of having a Quirkless son and just up and left one day.

It was left to his mother to raise him on her own, not that he'd have it any other way. His mother, along with his best friend Katsuki and his parents, was the only person that believed him and more importantly, his dream.

As his home comes into sight, he smiles as he thinks of his mother, most likely making dinner. He opens the front door, and is immediately hit with the smells of food cooking in the kitchen.

"Mom, I'm home."

He immediately hears his mother's voice emanating from the kitchen, "Welcome home, sweetie."

He takes off his shoes and walks towards the kitchen. As he reaches the kitchen, he spots his mother standing at the stove and hums as she stirs something in the pot.

Inko turns and smiles at her son, "How was your day, sweetie?"

Izuku shrugs and walks towards the dining room, "Not too bad, I saw heroes in action."

Inko sighs as she carries the food to the table, "Izuku, we talked about this."

Izuku rolls his eyes, "Mom, you don't have to worry, I'm not going to run in and get myself hurt."

Inko shakes her head, "Izuku, I'm your mother, it's my job to worry about you."

Izuku sighs, knowing he can't win against his mother, "Yes, mom."

Inko smiles, "Good boy."

After finishing dinner, Izuku walks up to his bedroom and sits at his desk. He opens his notebooks that he's written on various heroes and their Quirks. His thoughts turn back to when he was four.

Flashback

Little Izuku smiles as he holds onto his mother's hand. Inko smiles down at her adorable son, while frowning on the inside while thinking of her estranged husband.

'Oh, Hiashi, how could you just abandon your son like this?'

"Mommy, what do you think my Quirk will be?"

She giggles, "I'm sure it will be fantastic."

The doctor walks into the room, "Ah, Ms. Midoriya."

"Hello, doctor, what can you tell me about my son's Quirk?"

The doctor sighs, "I'm just going to be up and front about this, your son is Quirkless."

Little Izuku's world feels like it has just shattered, "What?"

The doctor sighs again, "I'm sorry to say, but Izuku has the extra joint in his toe."

Little Izuku clutches his mother's clothes, "Mommy, I can still be a hero right?"

The doctor shakes his head, "You should just give up kid, without a Quirk, you'll never make it."

Flashback end

Izuku shakes his head, thereby chasing the memories away. His gaze turns to his clock and sighs.

'I'd better get some sleep, or else I'll never be able to get up in time for school.'

Izuku sighs and lays down on his bed, dreams of heroes and Quirks flowing through his head.

He grumbles as his alarm clock wakes him up from his sleep. He gets out of bed and prepares for the day.

"Good morning, sweetie."

Izuku smiles at his mother, "Good morning, mom."

After eating breakfast, Izuku says goodbye to his mother and heads out the door. As he makes his way to his school, his thoughts turn towards U.A., the top hero school in Japan. He knows that it will be difficult for him, due to his lack of a viable Quirk, but he refuses to give up on his dream.

"Yo, Deku!"

Izuku turns to see Katsuki running up to him. The blonde bomber wraps his arm around Izuku's shoulder, "What's up, nerd?"

Izuku rolls his eyes, "Hello, Kachan."

Katsuki grins, "You ready for the entrance exam?"

Izuku frowns, "I have been preparing for a while now."

"We'll see how I fare when the time comes."

Katsuki grins, "Well, you better make it nerd."

The teacher smiles at the students, "Well, everyone, it's time for you to discuss your future plans."

"Of course, you're all planning to become heroes, aren't you?"

Everyone cheers and smiles in response to their teacher's question.

"Oi, teacher, don't lump me in with these extras!"

Everyone turns to glare at Katsuki, who simply glares back.

"Ah, Katsuki, you're planning to apply for U.A. aren't you?"

Katsuki gives the teacher an arrogant smirk, "That's right, and I'm going to be a better hero than any of these losers."

The teacher rolls their eyes, "Ah, Midoriya, you were planning to go to U.A. as well, weren't you?"

Whispers break out amongst the students, mostly about Izuku being Quirkless and that he doesn't have what it takes to be a hero. Izuku merely sighs, choosing to ignore the inane babble of his idiot classmates.

The only one not whispering about him is, of course, Katsuki, who glares at everyone.

Izuku groans as he steps outside the school, the agonizing classes finally being done. He decides to take the long way home, so that he can clear his head. His musing is interrupted when he notices that he has taken a wrong turn and as wound up in an alley.

"How did I end up here?"

"Well, now, a shiny new meat suit."

Izuku's eyes widen as a large amount of slime suddenly envelopes his body.

"Don't struggle, kid, it'll all be over in a second."

Izuku coughs and hacks as he can feel the slime pouring down his throat.

'Damn it, not like this.'

Izuku's vision starts to go black, when a loud voice shouts out.

"Texas Smash!"

Izuku's eyes slowly open, 'What just happened?'

"Ah, young man, you're awake."

Izuku's eyes widen, "All Might?"

The number 1 hero smiles, "It's alright, you're safe now."

Izuku looks around, but doesn't see the slime villain, "Where did?"

All Might holds up a bottle with what appears to be green slime inside.

"I must thank you; I have been tracking this villain for a few days now."

Izuku shakes his head, "No problem, thanks for saving me."

"It's no problem, young man."

All Might turns to leave, but Izuku calls out to him.

"Wait, before you go, I've got to know." "Is it possible for me to be a hero, even though I'm Quirkless?"

All Might's smile is replaced with a serious look, "Quirkless, you say?"

Izuku gives his hero a sad smile, "All my life, I've wanted to be a hero like you."

"I want to be able to save people, while smiling, you know?"

All Might sighs, "I'm sorry young man, but I don't think it's possible."

A horrified look appears on Izuku's face, but before he can respond, All Might puts a hand up.

"Don't get me wrong, I think your heart is in the right place, and I do believe that you would make an excellent hero."

"But heroes are forced to put their lives on the line every single day." "I'm sorry kid, but that's the truth of it."

All Might turns and leaves, not seeing the devastated look on Izuku's face.

Izuku falls to his knees and tears pour down from his face, as ten years of sorrow and bullshit finally catch up to him. Suddenly, a moment of clarity comes to him, he wipes his tears and climbs to his feet.

"So, that's how its going to be, huh?" "Well, to hell with it."

He gains a determined look and turns back towards his home. One his way home, his attention is drawn to a large explosion.

'Kachan?'

He rushes towards the sound of explosions and his horrified at what he sees. Katsuki is in the middle of an intersection, his body being enveloped by the same slime villain from earlier. The villain has clearly managed to take control of his Quirk, as he is using it to ward off the heroes and police officers trying to stop him.

Izuku grits his teeth at the incompetency of the so-called heroes. None of the heroes will make a move towards the villain due to none of them having a Quirk suited to the situation.

'Cowards.'

Deciding that he has had enough, he rushes forward, ignoring the shouts of the heroes and officers.

The villain spots Izuku, "Not you again!"

Katsuki grits his teeth, "Damnit, Deku, get out of here!"

Izuku rams his hand into the slime and grabs Katsuki's hand, "Shut up, Kachan!"

"I'm not going to leave you here, so just shut up and help me!"

Katsuki growls and turns to the villain, "Alright, Deku, hang on!"

He gathers energy into his hand and sets off a huge explosion, which knocks everyone off their feet.

Izuku groans and his ears continue to ring, 'That's gonna hurt in the morning.'

Katsuki grabs ahold of his shoulders, "You okay?"

"Nothing's broken, just sore."

Izuku stops short, "Kachan."

Katsuki frowns, "What's wrong?"

Izuku holds up a shaking hand, "I can't see."

"Kachan, I can't see!"

Katsuki's eyes widen and he latches onto his friend, "Calm down, calm down."

"You little bastards!"

Katsuki turns to see the slime villain has reformed is glaring at them.

"This could have been painless, but no, the two of you just had to make this difficult."

Katsuki growls as he holds on to Izuku, but is stopped when Izuku grits his teeth and his body starts to glow purple.

"Deku?"

Izuku roars and punches the ground, causing an enormous amount of gravity to slam down onto the villain, making him faceplant onto the pavement.

Katsuki's eyes widen in shock, "Deku!?"

Izuku snaps out of his little anger spell and pants, "What did I just…?"

Before anyone can react, All Might appears on the scene, "I'm sorry young man."

He clenches his fist, "I was wrong about you."

"Texas Smash!"

He roars and slams his fist into the villain, sending him flying and splattering him against the wall.

All Might takes a deep breath and turns to the two boys. Katsuki is looking at Izuku with concern, while Izuku himself is holding his hand up, almost as if he were staring at it.

"Deku?"

Izuku shakes his head, "I don't understand…how did this all happen?"
