Welcome, got this idea while reading Flameraiser's "The Swallow and the Dragon" I will try to avoid doing things similar to that but I think with me having them stay in Magical Britain will be a way for me to avoid doing what they did. Hope you enjoy.
Disclaimer: I own nothing and profit nothing, just trying my hand at writing for fun.
Harry's POV
Harry was tired of the manipulation. He was tired of being told he was too young to know what was going on. He was tired of being told it was all apart of the plan. After having seen Lord Voldemort rise from the dead and kill Cedric Diggory, Harry was done being the good little pawn and doing what he was told.
He had reached out to all his friends and contacts and yet no one had said anything of substance. Dumbledore had yet to answer any letters despite sending them every day for the last two weeks.
Harry had even risked writing Sirius despite the possible problems that could stem from writing a letter and sending it to an escapee of Azkaban. Sirius's return letter had the most content but that was hardly saying much. Sirius had essentially told him that Dumbledore was keeping both of them on lockdown in their respective households and that Harry should try and get Dumbledore to let him leave the Dursley's.
The Dursley's informed Harry they were going to visit Marge and that he was staying in Privet Drive. The Dursley's had left on a Friday in early July so on Saturday morning Harry decided he wanted to go to Diagon Alley took his invisibility and went into the backyard and soon was walking away from Privet Drive without anyone being the wiser. Once he was a few blocks away he stowed the invisibility cloak and flagged down the Knight Bus and with a quick chat he was on his way to The Leaky Cauldron in London.
Harry soon found himself in front of Gringotts and wasted no time walking in. When he found himself in front of a goblin teller, he said "Hello there, I came to Gringotts to inquire about my family's holdings."
"Name?" the goblin asked in a bored tone.
"Potter."
"Ahhh, Potter you said? Well better late than never, you were supposed to come in last November to discuss some… complications that have arisen."
"Well that is certainly news to me, but I will do what I can to help with those complications."
"Very well, follow me."
Harry was led to the back, past the carts that take customers to their vaults and was soon led to an office that's plaque said 'Account Manager' on it. Harry was led in and took a seat in front of a desk that a goblin sat behind going over some paperwork.
"Name?" He asked, not looking up.
"Potter." Harry replied.
"Ahhh, Potter, why is it you did not answer our summons when you were emancipated on October the 31st last year?"
Harry's eyes widened at that. "I have never received any letters from Gringotts in my life, I had been unaware I was even emancipated."
"Most curious. Well from what we gather by being chosen in an event that was meant for students who were legally adults magic found you to not be a minor. I imagine you wouldn't get the ministry to approve of you being emancipated however, by Gringotts standards you have met the requirements to take control of your family's accounts."
"Accounts? I was under the impression my family had one account."
"The account you have been using up until this point is only a trust fund, the Potter family has one other account which refilled the trust account which was the one you had access to. That account has been run by me since the passing of your parents and now you have the option of accessing the main Potter account. While your family isn't as wealthy as some of the more prominent families you are still very well off thanks to your grandfather's invention of the Sleekeazy potion as well as other investments."
Harry sat there rather stunned, finally he said "That's certainly surprising… I wonder why I had never been told of this."
"That would most likely be a question for your magical guardian but in the meantime there is paperwork that needs filled out and then after I can show you to the vault if you so wish."
"I would greatly appreciate that, let's get this paperwork over with."
Harry got an explanation as to what the paper's he needed to sign were about. It was mostly a contract between himself and Gringotts involving the management of the Potter account and once satisfied by the answers he was given he agreed to sign. The goblin then pulled out a quill and told Harry. "This here is a bloodquill. It is only used on official paperwork by the Ministry and Gringotts, please sign here and initial in these two spots."
Once that was finished Harry was led to the Potter family vault and the first thing, he saw was a letter addressed to him from his parents. In the letter his parents had a copy of their will as well as personal letters for Harry that managed to leave him with far more questions than he had answers.
After looking around a bit Harry filled his money bag and then informed his account manager that he wanted to close the trust vault and operate solely out of his family account. He ended up being charged 10 galleons because he did not have the key to his trust vault on him to turn in.
When Harry left Gringotts he went to Flourish and Blotts and picked up several extra books on defensive magic and wizarding law. Once he was done with that, he decided it was time to head back to Privet Drive where he would then start working on his summer homework.
Harry took the Knight Bus to the same point he was picked up at then once again donned the Invisibility Cloak and snuck in through the backyard. When Harry arrived in his room, he found Fawkes waiting for him with a letter on his leg.
Dear Harry,
I know you must be bored of the Dursley's and I'm sure it's even more so when they are not their I cannot stress enough how important it is that you do not risk yourself. It is incredibly dangerous now that Lord Voldemort is back. Would you truly risk the sacrifice of your parents for a trip to Diagon Alley? I assure you we will have you moved from Privet Drive as soon as we can, I only ask for your patients in this and wish you the best.
Yours,
Albus Wulfric Percival Brian Dumbledore
When Harry was done reading, he looked to Fawkes who gave a sad trill then disappeared in a ball of flames. Harry thought back to the information he had received from his parents and his anger started building up.
'That absolute bastard, has the audacity to tell me that after all that he's done. The fact he ignored my parents will regarding my living arrangements is an affront to the people he tried to use and guilt trip me!'
Harry's anger eventually cooled down after pacing back and forth for about 15 minutes. Harry then opened a book he had bought that day on defensive magic. The book spoke of how to deflect spells off the tip of the want. It required great precision but could help reduce the amount of energy used on defense.
The weeks passed and soon it was Harry's birthday, not that he had received any letters since Dumbledore's letter. Harry was rather annoyed, he understood that everyone was playing spy now that Voldemort was back but he thought that he could have been moved by now, he had already spent more than a month at Privet Drive and he was ready to be anywhere else.
Harry wasn't too hung up on not receiving correspondence, he had put the time to good use by finishing his Summer assignments and had read up on several of the books he had bought on defense and even one of the ones on wizarding law. He had many questions to ask Dumbledore given the information his parents left in their letters. As he lay in bed, he thought back to that day in Gringotts
Harry Dearest,
If you are reading this then it means that we were found out by Voldemort. I'm sorry that I won't be there to see you grow up but know I love you with all my heart. I hope that you were able to be raised by a loving wizarding family as I know the hardships of being raised in the muggle world and then being introduced to something so mind blowing as Diagon Alley, let alone Hogwarts. I hope you take your studies more seriously than your father. He was truly brilliant, but he put no effort forth and spent his time messing around with pranks and the inevitable detentions that followed. I hope your honorary uncles were able to help whoever raised you so you can hear of all your father's silly attempts to woo me. I can't express how much I hope I'll be able to go to Gringotts and burn this letter but I know I must leave something in case you turn out to be his target and not Neville Longbottom. I hope you get the chance to live a long fruitful life and I advise you not to be as much of an arrogant prat as your father was when we were younger. I'm not entirely sure what else to write but I'll reiterate I love you so much honey and I hope I won't have to meet you on this side for a very long time.
Love,
Mum.
Harry,
I cannot tell you how strange it is for me to try and write a letter for my one year old son that I expect for him to not be able to read until he's old enough to take up the Potter name. I suppose I will start by saying you and your mother are the light of my life. I was smitten with her from the moment I laid eyes on her at eleven years old. I was far from perfect when I was younger and I hope you inherit your mother's temperament and not mine, that being said she can be a right fright when she gets angry. I'm sure by this point if you are reading this letter then Dumbledore will have told you of the prophecy. I'm sorry I can't be there to help you with this but if you are dealing with that Dark Tosser I would suggest looking into some of the Potter library books, they might give you an advantage in a fight with him. We were never told what exactly the prophecy was only that it involved either you or Neville Longbottom. I know your mother will tell you to take school seriously and while as I have aged, I have to agree that is the smarter approach don't be afraid to have some fun as well. I would also advise to follow your heart. I'm sure one day you will encounter someone who affects you in the way your mother affects me. Be honest and true to yourself and you will do the Potter family proud.
Love,
Dad.
Harry woke up the next day much the same as any day and soon made breakfast for himself and the Dursleys. Harry passed the day reading but by evening he was tired of reading and decided to go for a walk. Given that Dumbledore had known when Harry had left for Gringotts early in the summer Harry figured someone was watching now and figured he would be safe in the neighborhood.
After some time of wandering Harry came across Dudley and his bunch of goons at the park and a young kid leaving with what looked like a bloody nose and black eye. Harry approached the group then asked "Beat up another ten year old, big-D?"
"This one deserved it." He responded.
"Mighty brave of you."
"At least I'm not scared of my pillow. Every night it's 'don't kill Cedric' with you. Who's Cedric, your boyfriend?" at that all of Dudley's gang started to guffaw like idiots.
Out of nowhere storm clouds came in with a cool wind. Dudley's gang quickly left but Dudley was eyeing Harry. "What did you do?"
"You think this is me, I haven't done anything. We should head home just to be safe." Harry's mind was racing trying to figure out what could have caused this storm to come out of nowhere like this. It was unlikely to be natural which only left magical, but who would gain from this storm suddenly appearing.
As the boys were walking, they came to an underpass and started walking. Harry had noticed it getting colder and colder. Harry then pulled his wand out of his pocket because he figured the source of the strange magic was getting closer. By this point Harry could see his breath and he felt his heart drop, surely there wasn't what he thought here. They were supposed to be guarding Azkaban, but as Harry was assuring himself of the impossibility of Dementors being here two dementors rushed Harry and Dudley.
Before Harry could even think of a memory for the Patronus Charm he was smacked down by the dementor and lost a hold of his wand. As Harry was getting up the Dementor was picking him up and started to feed upon his memories.
There was nothing he could do, no one to save him. Was this the end? Harry looked to Dudley and couldn't see him. There was something in the way, something that hadn't been there before. It seemed to be a strange large circle of some kind of magic and from the portal walked a vision of beauty the like of which Harry hadn't seen before. She had Ashen hair done in a bun but had several locks loose that framed her brilliant green eyes which if he had to guess were a couple shades lighter than his. She also had a scar that went from under her left eye to almost the bottom of her left ear. She looked around as she walked from the strange magical anomaly and when she saw the dementors she immediately unsheathed the sword from her back and struck out at the dementor holding Harry.
Harry was certainly surprised to see the dementor react to a physical attack in such a manner but after being dropped by the dementor he certainly wasn't going to complain. Harry was fumbling on the ground trying to find his wand.
"Oh for the love of… Lumos!" he said desperately. Much to Harry's surprise his wand lit up not 3 feet away he quickly grabbed it and thought of his parents and the letters showing their love. "Expecto Patronum!"
The mysterious girl seemed fascinated by the Patronus. Harry quickly had the dementors on the run and then went to help Dudley up.
"Wha… what was that?" Dudley asked.
"They were Dementors, they feed on positive emotions and leave you only with the negative. They aren't supposed to be around these parts." Harry said.
"Dementors? I've spent most my life around those that hunt monsters and I've never heard of them." Said the girl.
"Well given that there are only ways to protect from dementors and not kill them may be a factor in that. I don't mean to be rude but who the bloody hell are you and where the bloody hell did you come from."
"My name is Ciri and I came from a place very far away." Was her short answer.
"Well thank you for your help. I very much doubt I would be here if it weren't for you. I don't know of any magic cultures that still use swords." Harry observed.
"Yes well, like I said I come from very far away. One could say it's a different world."
"I hope the Dementors didn't effect you too badly, the best way to combat their effect is by consuming chocolate so if you would like to join us I can get you some, it's the least I can do." Harry said.
"I would certainly be grateful of that, you weren't kidding about them bringing up the negative memories."
With that the three started walking towards No 4 Privet Drive. On their way they ran into Mrs. Figgs who Harry quickly learned had been in the employ of Dumbledore since he had lived there. When they got to Privet Drive Harry pulled Ciri aside quickly.
"My relatives aren't pleasant and there's almost no way they'd willingly let you in the house so I'm going to go grab something to help get you in."
"If it's too much trouble I can find lodging somewhere else." She said.
"No, I must insist you helped me the least I can do is help you." Harry said.
"Alright I'll be waiting here."
Harry and Dudley went inside and the Dursley's certainly weren't happy with the situation. After a 10-minute rant by Vernon and several owls from the Ministry and Mr. Weasley, Harry was able to go grab his invisibility cloak to bring Ciri in.
"This is the only room in the house I can be certain the Dursley's won't enter no matter what, I need to write a letter and get word out about what had happened because if the government has their way I will be kicked out of the magical community for what just happened." Harry said while going to his desk to grab parchment and start writing while Ciri sat on the bed.
"Are you saying your magic community is separate from your mundane population?"
Harry raised an eyebrow to her "Are you saying that where you come from it is not separate?"
"I asked first so you answer."
"Very well. Here in Britain we call those without magic muggles and yes we have separate schools, stores, and governments which originates from the witch burnings which started in the 15th century so we've isolated our community given how only a couple percent of the world population are wizards it really is best for us to keep isolated and prevent any possible conflict with the muggles."
"I suppose I should inform you that where I come from magic is known of by all but practiced by few. From what I've seen thus far your world is far more advanced than mine is."
"My world? Are you saying when you appeared back there you were coming from a different world?"
"That is indeed what I am saying."
"Well you picked an unfortunate time to come to this world, we had a very evil wizard come back from the brink of death after 13 years and the government refuses to believe he is back. In fact, those creatures are suppose to be under the control of the government… rather suspicious."
"Indeed, I never did get your name."
"Oh, I'm Harry Potter and I suppose I'm the first to welcome you to our world."
"Well Harry Potter, it's nice to meet you. I admit I've been traveling worlds looking to learn things that will help with my future, I don't suppose you know anyone that could teach me, do you?"
"Well I go to a rather well-off school that teaches magic if you are interested in that. I'm currently writing the headmaster about the situation, hopefully we can get out of this hell hole sooner than later with what has happened. Hedwig I've got a letter for Headmaster Dumbledore."
Wanted to post this chapter because I'll be gone for the next month and change, hoping to create some intrigue and I'll be thinking of where to go with this from here but I won't be able to write on my computer until November(ish).
