1. Prologue

"Ru-"

Everything was so dark. . . She was so cold. . . She couldn't move.

"Leave her be."

She blinked her silver eyes open, staring up as the surface of the water as it seemed to grow further and further away. She felt like her blood had turned to ice and there was a dull, almost nonexistent throbbing in her head. She opened her mouth to make a noise, but nothing but bubbles of air came out as cold water poured in. She couldn't feel anything, but somehow she knew exactly where she was. She'd failed. . . Her family, her father, her sister. . . Her friends, Blake, Nora, Ren, Jaune, Pyrrha. . . She'd even failed her girlfriend. . . They were gone. It was her fault and now they would never be avenged, she'd gone a step too far.

"Ruby!"

"Hang on. She's not quite there yet."

The current seemed to pick up as she slid in and out of consciousness, she could feel water rushing around her and her body ever so slightly nudging the ground. Red and black started to flood her vision and she closed her eyes, accepting her fate without hesitation. Even if she did manage to save herself, she didn't have anything left to live for. . .

"Now go."

"Ruby!" Upon hearing her name being called, she opened one eye to see a blinding, blurry white figure diving above her. Were those. . . Wings? "Close your eyes, Ruby." Weiss. . .? It couldn't be, she was gone. . . Unwillingly, her eyes closed and she slipped into unconsciousness. "I promised you, Ruby, I'll be here for you through life and death. Just let go. . ."

I began developing this fanfic when I first started writing My Princess, and then I begun writing it in August of 2019. This story still has a lot of development to be done, but so far, this is my favorite fic I've written yet.

If this fanfic is not updated monthly, it is because I haven't had time to continue writing. I want to be 3-4 chapters ahead before posting a new chapter.
So have patience!
