Chapter 68: Another Mystery

Sherry staggered out of the building with Yusei's arm slung over her shoulder. The acolyte they'd saved had fled, glad to be safe.

Yusei contacted Security and frowned. He couldn't get a signal out to Ushio. However – someone was contacting him.

"Sherry. We need to find Aki." Yusei stated.

"No need. I can hear and see her ace from here." The knight duelist said. Sherry smiled, pointing to the top of a nearby skyscraper where Black Rose Dragon's wing could be seen even at the great height. The dragon roared in victory.

"Getting Aki down from there might be a hassle though." Sherry said. Yusei nodded and walked towards the building, raising his Duel Disk to his ear and listening to the message he'd been sent.

"This is Jack. I'm on my way. We need to rally Team 5D's again. We'll be stronger in sheer numbers. By the way, I heard that Crow's fine - he should be on his way back soon. We should check up on him – just in case."

A pause and then

"Yusei! You'd better be yourself when I get back!"

The message ended and Yusei closed his eyes, feeling relieved on that front. He didn't know the entire situation but – knowing his friends were alright was enough for now. He made a mental note to check on Rua and Ruka before he sent Aki his own message.

Yusei looked up at the sheer size of the building she had her dragon land on. He raised his Duel disk and sent her a message.

"Can you get down from there or do you want me to send for help, Aki?" He asked.

"I'm fine." Aki replied as Black Rose Dragon glided down, landing in front of Yusei and Sherry. It lowered her to the ground in a few tendrils and Aki stepped forward. She had a tired smile as she pulled Sherry and Yusei into a hug.

"It's finally over. I managed to defeat him."

"Aki. I was worried I couldn't be saved once Marik took over. Thank you. You didn't just beat Divine – you also saved me."

"Yusei. Finally I returned the favor." Aki smiled.

Sherry tightened the hug. "Damn. I wanted to get Divine back for brainwashing you and making us duel."

"Well he's right there if you want to throw a few punches." Aki said, stepping back from the hug.

Further inspection of Black Rose Dragon showed that it restrained Divine in two of its' vines.

"As for him – we should make sure he's not a threat anymore." Aki said, glancing at the cult leader with concern. "I thought Security would be here sooner but – I didn't account for Earthbound Immortals being summoned."

Sherry grinned and cracked her knuckles as Yusei wondered how fast Jack and Crow would meet up with them.

/

Ushio and Atem had gotten Mikage's vehicle and returned for her, the woman insisting she drive. The three of them stopped in front of the Security Building, stunned as there was no one there to greet them.

Atem, Mikage and Ushio's progress slowed to a halt as the Security building was empty. The air was cold – adding to the sense of isolation. The outside flames' heat was now gone, though they now heard sounds of battle coming from somewhere in the building.

Ushio took a step down the hall, yelling.

"Come one now! Kazama – are you here?" Ushio asked. Mikage frowned as she looked over the various screens of camera footage and suddenly her face paled.

"Atem! Ushio! I found Kazama! Right in the main entrance!" She yelled.

The two men nodded and followed Mikage. The three ran down the hall and took two right turns - into the main hall of the Security station to see a Duel was underway. A purple ring of flames surrounded the two.

Far down the hall they could see Kazama, standing beside his ace monster. Demon Chaos King brandished its' blazing swords (7/2600/2600).

Across from him was an unknown opponent with a field consisting of a winged figure, hunched over and with withered features (10/0/0). The man's robes were that of a Dark Signer. Black and with a red fringe.

KAZAMA: 1000 / ? : 4000

"Kazama's fighting a Dark Signer here?!" Ushio asked. The three ran closer, near to the edge of the purple circle of flames.

Kazama panted, turning to the side and wincing as he saw Atem and the others running towards him.

"Get away from here! He's on another level of Dueling!" The Security warned.

Atem could see Kazama's uniform had a few tears in it, showing scrapes and bruises.

His opponent's body language betrayed nothing, the man's face obscured by a hood as he drew for his turn.

The man smiled, in the middle of raising a card above his head, before he discarded it. Then he spoke.

"I activate my monster's effect – letting me initiate Dark Tuning with a monster from my hand!"

A level three monster was discarded as the man's Dark Tuner split apart.

Next, seven black spheres appeared around him, spinning around rapidly.

Demon Chaos King stood alone on Kazama's field as his robed opponent began to chant, spreading out his arms as he did so.

"When Shadows are devoured by darker Shadows – The Wings of the Netherworld will open. Dark Synchro! Rise to gaze upon a world without light!"

A flash of black and then a large shadow fell over Kazama (-7/2500/2000).

"What in the world is that?!" Ushio yelled. The Dark Signer grinned. "I suppose I'll tell you its' name in the next Duel – now! I activate my monster's effect! Destroy Demon Chaos King!" The Dark Signer commanded, making a fist and pointing it at Kazama's ace.

The monster's visor lit up red for a moment as it followed the order, swooping down to fly towards its prey.

By the time the three reached Kazama properly, it was too late.

The obscured lanky monster struck Demon Chaos King, flying directly through it to strike Kazama head on. The officer screamed, flying back into the barrier of flames before falling face-first to the ground (KAZAMA: 1000 → 0).

"But – his monster should've protected him!" Ushio yelled.

The seal of flames expired and Ushio ran towards his fellow officer, Kazama grabbing his arm and looking tense.

"Ushio – he's – that man - he's - !" Kazama tried to say something else to his fellow officer, but could not. The Duel of Darkness' toll had to be paid.

The three onlookers were tense as Kazama's form turned a shade of purple, the man grimacing in shock. His body didn't remain there for long – as the Dark Signer raised a card that Kazama's soul was sucked into, his body dissolving into grey dust.

Ushio shook as the man he was trying to support faded away. His eyes were wide in shock, barely noticing Atem step forward.

"And I'll be taking that Synchro Monster too. No sense in wasting a good card." The man said, reaching out a hand as Demon Chaos King's card glowed with a purple aura before flying into the man's Extra Deck.

Atem grimaced as the mysterious Dark Signer turned to Ushio, smirking under his hood.

"Another Security! Then I'll crush you too! Maybe I'll add your Goyo Guardian to my collection next." The man exclaimed.

Ushio grit his teeth. "Dark Signer - ! You just absorbed Kazama!? Then I'll just defeat you myself and - !"

"NO!" Atem yelled, gesturing for Ushio to step back. His deep voice made them both stop as he moved, stepping over the charred ground where the purple flames had just gone out.

"I'll face this Dark Signer! With the absence of the Signers, those bearing Millennium Items will suffice against them!" Atem stated as his Puzzle shone with light.

Ushio narrowed his eyes as he stood up. "You already saved me from myself! Let me face him! I owe you and Kazama both that much!" Ushio countered. The mysterious man tisked and pointed to Atem.

"I want to see how the revived King of Games does against me so - you first. Then Officer Ushio. I'll have plenty of time to resume the hunt when we finish things." He said calmly, shuffling his Deck and getting ready to Duel again.

"Resume the hunt?" Atem asked.

The robed man chuckled and it was off-putting to Atem.

"I've seen you Duel personally. Do you really think you can face me – especially now that I've come back as a Dark Signer?"

The man activated his Duel Disk. Atem raised an eyebrow.

"Came back? Then I have some idea as to who you might be. You say you know me? Well then – I'll uncover your identity in this Duel! Let's begin, Dark Signer!" Atem responded.

As both players got ready, Ushio backed up until he was beside Mikage. The two knew well enough of Dark Signers' Duels to stay back.

ATEM: 4000 / DARK SIGNER: 4000

"DUEL!" The two cried out and a circle of flames appeared around them both.

Atem glanced to the burning field around them and narrowed his eyes. His Puzzle glowed for a moment as he tried to disable the flames – and was unsuccessful.

He spoke out loud in surprise. "It's similar to The Seal of Orachalcos! I see my Puzzle can't disable it."

"You're against truly raw magic. The Dark Signers' power works in multiple cycles of five-thousand years. It's far more ancient than your relic is." The other responded.

"I see – then I'll have to disable this field - by defeating you!" Atem concluded, pointing at his opponent.

"Draw!" Atem yelled, pulling the top card from his deck.

"I'll begin with Pot of Greed!" Atem said, giving him seven cards once his Spell card resolved.

"Next I'll play Ancient Rules – and Special Summon a high level normal monster from my hand! Now, appear, my servant - Dark Magician!" Atem roared as his ace monster appeared beside him (7/2500/2100).

The magician was tense as Atem stared at his enemy among the flames. If this was a real Dark Signer – he'd have to go all out right at the start.

"Next I'll use this – Dedication through Light and Darkness! I'll tribute Dark Magician to call on his stronger form! Appear from within my Deck – Dark Magician of Chaos!"

Atem cried out again as his Ace Monster evolved, skin turning blue as his costume became more elaborate, purple armor turning a shade of black as it warped and changed shape (8/2800/2400).

"When this is special summoned I can return a spell card from my Graveyard to my hand. I'll retrieve my Pot of Greed! Then I'll play it once again!" Atem said, playing the spell and giving himself six cards to use.

"Well done! Using Pot of Greed twice in one go!" Ushio said, snapping a finger at Atem's first move.

"Next I'll set three cards and end my turn!" Atem fished, glaring at the Dark Signer.

"What a nice move. I'll consider it an honor to see you evolve your Ace Monster in front of me. Then – I'll begin!" The Dark Signer said in return.

TURN 2

ATEM: 4000, DARK SIGNER: 4000

"Draw!" The Dark Signer said and smirked as he looked over his hand. As the man's face warped from his wide grin, Atem could see two red angular marks going down either side of his face – even with the hood obscuring his face.

"You're about to see a card only Dark Signers can use! If I control no monsters, I can Special Summon this from my hand. Dark Tuner – Wings of Death." He said, flipping the card around.

Above him a tall and lanky winged creature appeared, dark purple and grey. Its' saggy skin and bony head giving the impression that it was near-dead (10/0/0).

"A level of – ten?! And it's the same Tuner I saw before!" Atem remarked.

Ushio's face paled. "This is bad! That Dark Tuner right away! That means he'll do one thing!"

"What's that?" Atem asked.

Ushio stammered in response. "H - he's going to perform a Dark Synchro Summon!"

"What?! Dark Synchro Summon?!" Atem asked, taken aback by the offshoot of Synchro Summoning.

Atem's opponent resumed speaking. "I'll use Wings of Death's effect and initiate Dark Tuning with a monster from my hand! All I have to do is discard that chosen monster as a cost!"

The Dark Signer stated as he discarded a monster that Atem didn't recognize, three level stars appearing before the Dark Tuner as it erupted into ten dark stars of its' own – shattering the three green stars as the seven remaining ones spun in a circle.

Then the man began to chant.

"When Shadows are devoured by darker Shadows – The Wings of the Netherworld will open. Dark Synchro! Fly high to gaze down upon the world! A world without light! - Dark Skull Kaiser!"

The following Summon shook the floor as the darkness faded, revealing a monster with a mechanical battle mask, armor of the same, and two sharp metal wings (-7/2500/2000).

"That's the monster you defeated Kazama with – and it's just as powerful as my Dark Magician!" Atem stated. His summon of Dark Magician of Chaos earlier in the game offered a level of protection but he still felt tense.

Atem's opponent spoke. "And now I'll use Dark Skull Kaiser's effect! I can send your monster to the Graveyard and then you take half its' attack power as damage! Blood Trigger!"

"I see. That effect is what beat Kazama!" Ushio observed.

The Dark Synchro pulled out two sleek red and black guns from holsters on its legs, firing glowing crimson bullets from them.

"Not quite! I'll chain this Trap Card to your effect – Dark Renewal! l tribute both our monsters as a cost - to bring back Dark Magician!" Atem said as his ornate metal coffin rose, the object blocking the gunfire.

"Now prepare to lose your Dark Synchro Monster- and face my Dark Magician once again!" Atem warned.

The coffin opened, revealing the inside of it to be empty.

Dark Magician's card appeared before it crackled with blue lighting and vanished from the field.

Then Dark Renewal shattered apart, leaving the two targets on the field. Atem's eyes were wide as his opponent chuckled.

"What?! But how?"

"Sorry. When you try and target a card in your Graveyard, I'll chain this – I can discard the monster D.D Crow to remove it from the game instead!"

"D.D. Crow?! - A hand trap!?" Ushio uttered.

"Hand trap?" Mikage asked.

Ushio looked serious as he turned to her. "Yeah. The same as Aki's Hedge Guard, Yusei's Effect Veiler, or Jack's Battle Fader. This one's nastier though. Banishing a card from Atem's Graveyard means he can't bring it back with that trap card."

"How knowledgeable, Officer." Atem's opponent smirked.

"I banished Dark Magician so that Dark Renewal lost its target. As such – neither of our monsters will be sacrificed!" The other man spoke up, flipping the monster around before he discarded it.

"No! My Dark Magician!" Atem winced, taken aback by the man's counter play.

"Don't think that's the only monster you'll lose! As your trap failed, Dark Skull Kaiser's original target remains! Now – disappear! Blood Trigger!"

The monsters' bullets fired again, striking Atem's evolved monster and causing it to shatter apart. Atem screamed as he felt some of them graze his arms and legs (ATEM: 4000 → 2600).

"Real pain?! What power - !" Atem remarked, taking a step back and wincing as the Dark Signer pointed straight at him.

"Now see if you can withstand this! Dark Skull Kaiser – Direct attack! Hurricane Crusher!"

The monster sheathed its guns and flew towards Atem, a fist drawn back to strike with. Atem responded with one of his set cards.

"Not quite! Feel the fury of Mirror Force!" Atem countered. His trap card sprang up and the Dark Synchro's fist made contact.

The Dark Synchro Monster groaned before shattering. Atem grinned as his opponent's field was now empty again.

"Too bad, but it seems even a Dark Synchro Monster has limitations!" Atem stated as Ushio and Mikage looked at him hopefully.

"Yes. It seems you managed to defeat my Dark Synchro Monster and sent it to my Graveyard. That activates its secondary effect!" The other Duelist warned.

Atem frowned. "Secondary – effect?"

"Yes. One that lets my Special Summon a Synchro Monster from my Graveyard or Extra Deck with an opposite level – as long as it shares the same Attribute of my destroyed Dark Skull Kaiser. This Summon is treated as a Synchro Summon. Therefore – I can Special Summon a level Seven DARK Attribute monster directly from my Extra Deck – counting it as a Synchro Summon!"

"What?!" Atem exclaimed in disbelief as the green light of a Synchro Summon erupted into the enclosed space.

"That's why he beat Kazama first!" Ushio whispered with urgency. "He wanted to take his Synchro monster!"

The opponent raised his arm to the sky as he played the Synchro Monster on his Duel Disk.

"Appear before me! Former servant of Security – Demon Chaos King!"

The burning fiend appeared with a hiss, fire-swords igniting as it looked down on Atem (7/2600/2600).

"Why would you take Kazama's monster?!" Ushio yelled, making a fist.

"Easy. Why waste a good card?" The Dark Signer countered.

"Then let me ask you this. Why did you target a member of Security!?" Ushio demanded.

The Dark Signer smirked. "I'll answer your question in time – once I Duel you, Officer! Now - Demon Chaos King - attack Atem directly!"

The Synchro Monster punched and was blocked as the transparent image of Kuriboh appeared in front of Atem, glaring at his foe.

"I see it will take more than that." The other Duelist scoffed. "Well well – looks like you had a hand trap of your own."

Atem was beyond the time of taunting and insults as Kuriboh was placed in his Graveyard. The situation had become far too dire for that.

"You know my true name then? Yet you still took Kazama's soul?" Atem asked, glaring at the Dark Signer even as Kuriboh's image vanished.

The other man just chuckled as two set cards appeared on his field.

"That man is no longer with you. The only thing of his that you'll recognize is here!" He said, pointing to the Monster on his Duel Disk.

"Banishment tactics . . . stolen monsters . . . and effects that let you cycle through multiple boss monsters. I think I have some idea as to who you are, Dark Signer."

Atem took initiative, continuing his train of thought.

"I think I personally saw what created you! That fall you took from your headquarters didn't kill you! It simply gave you new life as a Dark Signer - Shiro!" Atem stated, pointing at his opponent. "Uru's card was right there! You fell and it brought you back!"

"Hmph. That's an interesting theory." Atem's opponent said with a chuckle, their voice still distorted from the flames around them.

"Well – you're not the only one borrowing a card! Mine was loaned to me as a gift from the very Security you claim to despise – Crow's Mirror Force is what defeated your Dark Synchro monster! And I swear on that bond I'll defeat you here and now!" Atem declared, pointing at his opponent.

The other man laughed to this.

"Then show me. Show me what that old deck of yours can do on its' own – Old King of Duelists.

Divine woke up to a painful sensation. His head jerked to the side and he gasped for breath, immediately remembering how badly the day had gone. He'd been beaten by his own pawn no less.

His head rang and he heard what sounded like a D-Wheel in the distance. Than his vision cleared. He could see three people who – hours ago – were all at his mercy. Now his jaw hurt and he was at the mercy of his former captives.

Yusei Fudo, Aki Izayoi, and Sherry LeBlanc all looked at him with a mixture of caution and disgust. Then Sherry spoke.

"I'd hit you again, but it seemed to do the job." the woman said.

None of his followers were there at his side.

Then he really was on his own.

Divine weakly looked up at Yusei and his eyes widened in anger, remembering how his perfect plan fell apart. If only he'd stayed his ambition and kept Yusei as a prisoner, then perhaps he could've remained in control.

"Damn you! Yusei Fudo, I swear I'll destroy all of you in the end - !"

"Destroy!? Destroy, you say!?" Divine's protest was cut off as a fourth person stepped into view. Tall, and wearing a white and grey Riding Suit. In the past Divine would call him a weak King. At the moment, he was another person that Divine could blame for ripping Aki from him.

He was also the manifestation of raw anger, teeth bared as he walked quickly towards the group. Divine could see Jack had just parked the Wheel of Fortune, not even bothering to take off his helmet yet.

A gloved fist hit Divine in the gut and he leaned forward as he crumpled into the blow, wide eyed and stunned. The new arrival spoke again, shoving his fist into Divine's stomach even deeper."

"Monster! The only one who will destroy anyone today - is me, Jack Atlus!"

The Psychic was taken aback at Jack's appearance, the man glaring at Divine with sheer hatred.

"Jack?!" Yusei asked, worried as the man pulled his arm back as far as he could.

"CARLY - " Jack yelled as he let his punch fly, the right hook making Divine's head turn sharply. He saw the tall skyscrapers as he head jerked up and to the right.

" - DIED - " A left hook did the same in the other direction, making the skyline spin. The second punch made his head ring. The pain from both now registering as his exhaustion from the Duel against Aki couldn't save him from Jack's assault.

" - BECAUSE OF YOU - " Jack raged, grabbing Divine by the collar and lifting him, Black Rose Dragon's hold on him be damned. Now his vision returned to looking at the ground and he could see the glare in Jack's eyes was real fury.

Divine was afraid. If Aki and Black Rose Dragon would spare him, surely he would live. That's what he told himself until he saw Jack's expression.

For the third time, Divine felt afraid for his life.

"NOW! FALL!"

Then Jack slammed his forehead into Divine's with as much strength as he could bear. The difference was that Jack still had his helmet on.

If Black Rose Dragon could speak, she would say she was glad the whole ordeal was over.

Black Rose Dragon growled, sounding bored as she let go, Divine's body hitting the ground, face freshly bruised from Jack's sudden attack. The man twitched, hissing in pain.

Jack exhaled and turned to the others. "I'd say more about what he did you all of you but – he did kill Carly back then. Never got to convey how I felt to him till now."

"I was trying to hold back, but Jack seems more than happy to go all out." Sherry said as Jack exhaled.

"Well there's plenty of ways to make you talk. Knocking you down's been in me for years. You deserve worse." Jack stated, looking down on the man.

"Now talk. Where's Shiro?" Sherry asked.

Divine laughed weakly, eyes wide.

"He fell. From his fortress. I saw it myself."

"I don't know if we can trust that. I certainly don't trust him." Aki said, looking to Black Rose Dragon as her ace monster vanished.

"Well – we can secure him without his cards." Sherry said, pointing to his Duel Disk that Aki had swiped.

"Restraints won't be enough. We won't be truly safe from Divine until he's behind bars again." Aki said.

Divine smirked. "You really think you can get away with this? Even if you lock me up again, I'll be out of jail before you know it. That was – something I made sure of this time."

"Then know my father won't rest until you're in for life." Aki said. Jack nodded.

"Carly and Misty can attest to that." Jack spoke up.

"Plus you assaulted a Security officer." Yusei said. "I was there when you tried to drown Mikage. You're going to have to face your crimes, one way or another."

Divine sneered. "Please, Fudo. Spare me the lecture now that your pure hands are stained with blood."

Yusei's eyes widened and Divine grinned, weakly sitting up.

"That's right. Malik didn't much care about your public image. How are you going to explain yourself, once this is all over?"

Yusei's eyes stayed wide as he found he didn't have an answer.

"I did it. So Yusei can too." Aki said, holding Yusei's hand. "I think Neo Domino City will be far kinder to him than you think, Divine."

Divine scowled to this. "Everything was in my grasp. You – all of you damn meddlers! I could've achieved my dream."

Sherry nudged him with her foot and shook her head.

"Shut up. If you'd have stayed quiet and not gotten anyone hurt, you wouldn't be in this situation. You could've had a fresh start."

Divine looked away with a deep frown.

"Let him stew in his rage and lick his wounds. For now, I think we're safe." Jack said, cracking his knuckles. "If he gets up again we can restrain him.

"Well – let's contact Security about it. In the meantime we should check up on the rest of Team 5D's." Yusei said, looking serious.

"Crow's on his way back." Jack said.

"Then Rua and Ruka. We should find them." Yusei proposed.

"The hospital." Aki said, clutching her head. "I remember – they were there when I left."

Sherry smiled. "Good. Then we can look for them soon."

"What about the Dark Signers?" Jack asked. "I tied with Carly and she's still around. What about the rest?"

Yusei brought up the Multi-Duel Network, displaying footage of Rua Dueling Bommer. "Looks like Rua won – but Bommer's signal is still here. Looks like Demak lost somehow – I don't know the details there."

"As for Kiryu - " Sherry brought up a recording showing him tie with Seto. "He didn't win or lose the Duel. Like with you and Carly, he tied against Seto."

"Then – Misty's Duel is the only one we don't know about." Aki finished.

"We also don't know if Dark Signers have to wait a certain amount of time before Dueling again. This is uncharted territory." Jack stated. "That said, we should be on guard. I thought about something and it's been bothering me."

"What's that?" Aki asked.

"In total – there were seven Dark Singers. Kiryu. Misty. Demak. Carly. Rudger. Bommer. And Godwin at the very end." Jack said.

"Right. Bommer was a reserve member once Demak lost." Yusei recalled.

"We've only seen five of them." Jack stated. "Shiro has the Spider – but – The Condor is missing from the picture."

"That means there's another Dark Signer on the loose." Aki finished.

Turn 3

ATEM: 2600, DARK SIGNER: 4000

Atem scowled at the opponent. It was bad enough that his Dark Synchro Monster lead into him being able to summon a Synchro in it's place. On top of that Kazama's stolen Synchro Monster had a troublesome effect.

Atem read the card and found it would be hard to get around without a good draw.

"Draw!" Atem roared, pulling the top card of his deck with all of his might. He had four cards and under normal circumstances that would be plenty. His audience noticed his hand was trembling slightly.

"He's shaking." Mikage observed. "The situation is really that tense?"

Her co-worker explained, sounding tensed.

"When his Dark Magician of Chaos leaves the field, it's removed from the game! That means he can't bring back Dark Magician or his stronger form unless he can reach the Banished Zone with a card effect." Ushio said.

"I see. So – both Dark Magician and Dark Magician of Chaos can't be recovered from the Graveyard now." Mikage clarified and Ushio nodded.

"Even Yusei struggled when his opponents played around Stardust Dragon and Shooting Star Dragon. Without either Ace Monster, Atem's going to have to be on his toes.

Atem was quick to play his next card.

"I may be down – but I'm not out! I'll use Graceful Charity!" Atem said, drawing three new cards before discarding two of them.

"Good! Now everything is in place!" Atem explained as he met the requirements for his next move.

Once again he held four cards once he sent Jack's Knight and Summoned Skull to his Graveyard.

"Now – I banish a DARK monster such as Summoned Skull and a LIGHT monster like Jack's Knight from my Graveyard to summon my own monster with the power of Chaos! Behold - Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning!"

Atem cried out as his armored swordsman appeared, descending from an unstable ripple of darkness and light (8/3000/2500).

"Now! I'll use Black Luster Soldier's effect! Remove Demon Chaos King from the game! Banishment Sword!"

The monster swung his sword, sending a white gust of energy towards Demon Chaos King. The Synchro Monster vanished from the Dark Signer's field.

"All right!" Ushio cheered, making a fist. "That means he's wide open for a direct attack!"

Atem continued and was quick to play his next card. "The turn I use this effect my Soldier cannot attack. However I'll play a monster that can! Appear - Celtic Guardian!"

Atem commanded as his elven warrior appeared, brandishing its' blade as it scowled (4/1400/1200).

Atem looked to his two remaining cards and then back up to his opponent
"Now, Celtic Guardian! Attack him directly – Fairy Blade Slash!"

The sword sliced at the Dark Signer and they stepped back, chuckling as they took some damage from the attack (DARK SIGNER: 4000 → 2600).

As they did, their hood fell down. Atem, Mikage, and Ushio were all stunned as they saw the opponent's true identity.

"You! It can't be!" Atem managed to say, as he was once again shocked.
