Chapter 8: A Funeral Some Doubts and A Letter
"Naruto is that you," Sasuke asked.
"We can talk when we get back to where I'm staying," he said.
After that Sasuke followed him. He kept a distance so he wouldn't draw attention to Naruto. Sasuke wasn't one to walk around with people especially a random person that no one had seen before. They walked the two kilometers from the perimeter of the village to this little cave in the woods. Once they had made their way into the cave the clone disappeared and Sasuke began to ask questions to the real Naruto who looked shocked to see him.
"Why are you hiding in the woods? Why does everyone think you killed yourself? And why does everyone say that you were beating Hinata that doesn't sound like something you would do. You loved her why would you ever lay your hands on her like that. It doesn't add up," Sasuke sent the barrage of questions towards Naruto.
"First of all, I'm hiding in the woods temporarily. I had to recover a lot of my chakra before leaving then I separated half of Kurama from me, so I was pretty drained I also needed to get some more supplies before leaving. Secondly, they think I killed myself because of the jutsu I used to make a replacement body to trick everyone into thinking I'm dead. I did that since I needed to escape. Lastly, I didn't lay a hand on her she cheated on me with Ay the former Raikage. Then she lied saying I abused her since I caught them after she began to act strange the one day I had also happened to run into Ay. When I caught them having sex in the bedroom, we shared I threatened Ay got angry and my chakra broke the dresser and floorboards. When Ay had sex with Hinata he was extremely rough, and it left bruises all over her. I never hit Hinata I loved her, and she broke me in return," Naruto explained.
"Did anyone even try and prove that you were innocent and what happened after that. Like what has happened in the nine months since that you're deciding to leave now," Sasuke asked.
"No everyone turned their backs on me like they were waiting for it to happen, and I'll tell you everything but you're not going to like what you hear," he admitted. Naruto went on to tell Sasuke everything. The suicide missions, the party they threw, Hinata begging for forgiveness, her pregnancy, he left out no details as he told Sasuke how he fell from grace.
Sasukes chakra flared he knew the village could be cruel he knew that everyone had betrayed Naruto but sending him on a mission just to kill him and celebrating his death. He was doubting Itachis will to protect the village. If they treated the heroes like villains while the actual villains like himself are Scott free the village wasn't worth protecting.
"Hey, calm down you're going to destroy the cave," Naruto said poking his head like Itachi used to do.
"How haven't you killed them all yet? They don't deserve your forgiveness or mercy they should burn! She should burn! Why protect them," Sasuke yelled his questions.
"Sasuke they will burn and all of them will suffer. If I'm not there to protect the village, they have no chance against any major threat. If they fall into war, they are sure to lose. The cloud and sand have tailed beast while every other village doesn't. If war breaks out there's no chance for the leaf to survive for long. Most wars aren't two days like the last one. And I'm not protecting Hinata I'm protecting her child," Naruto explained.
"Okay if that does happen. War breaks out the village falls. What if the kid isn't yours? What if its Ays," he questions.
"Thats simple Ay will eventually find out she was pregnant and since I'm dead he will come to the village, and she can deal with that if it happens. Either way I won't be around. She said that she loved him and wanted to go with him why should I interfere if she loves him so much after two months. Its time I move on, and I can't do that by sticking around here it just hurts to be here when I know that it could have been so much different," Naruto explained.
"Well do you at least want me to go prove your innocence. All I need to do is use a genjutsu and Hinata will tell everyone the truth," Sasuke suggested.
"I appreciate the offer but it's not worth it. I'm dead according to them. There's no reason for them to know I'm innocent. If they had cared they would have done something earlier all this did was show me how little they actually cared about me. All I want is to be able to move on and go somewhere else. The shinobi world will burn one day, and I won't be there to stop it," Naruto said bitterly.
"As long as you're not the one to burn it down I'll stand by you. I may not agree with the village, but I'm a shinobi and I believe this world needs them. Do you know when you plan to leave," Sasuke asked.
"Well, I heard there is supposed to be a funeral so maybe if that's soon I'll leave after that. If not, I'll be gone in a day or two. Do you plan on coming with me or are you going back to your redemption mission," Naruto asked.
"I'll go find out more about the funeral so you can make up your mind and I'll come with you for a while someone needs to keep an eye on you," he responded.
"Oh, by the way how is my disguise," Naruto said curious if he did a good job.
"It's convincing. Your hair is a completely different color, so are your eyes and your whiskers that no one else has are gone as well. I would change your voice though I noticed you soon as you spoke," Sasuke said and left towards the village.
"We'll have you decided their names yet," Ino questioned Hinata.
"I have ideas, but I wanted Naruto to give his opinion first," Hinata replied.
Ino wasn't sure what to say and no one else did either. Hiashi was currently visiting along with Kiba, Shino, Kurenai, and Shikamaru. Hiashi wasn't aware Naruto had killed himself yet. No one thought it was important to let him know, but the few others in the room weren't sure what to do when he was brought up.
"Yes, where is he? I figured he would want to seehis children. I didn't realize he had planned on being as bad a father as he was a husband,"Hiashi remarked.
"I'm not sure no one has seen him yet," Ino lied.
"Okay I just hope he gets back soon," she said.
"Why do you want him here so badly? He treated you horribly. It would be better for those kids to never even meet your kids," Kiba said. He knew Naruto wasn't coming back, but he was tired of hearing her talk about him. He still beat her even if he was the kids dad, he didn't deserve to be near them.
"Kiba stop it please. I care about him and that's all that matters, he deserves to be a part of their lives. Naruto is a great man, and they could learn a lot from him," she defended Naruto adamantly.
"Yeah, whatever anyone could teach them what Naruto could," Kiba said as he scoffed at the idea of Naruto teaching anyone anything.
"Why can't you stop putting him down. He did wrong by me no one else. He saved all of us on multiple occasions. He's the best shinobi to ever live and has done nothing wrong by anyone but me. If I can forgive him, you can too," she yelled.
"I don't get it Hinata you should hate him. He hurt you. Not emotionally but he physically laid his hands on you with the goal of hurting you," Kiba explained.
Before anyone responded Ino told them to quit fighting. Hinata couldn't be put under this much stress the day after she gave birth. Shikamaru had listened to the conversation and was wondering the same thing as Kiba. Why forgive the man who hurt you. From his knowledge Naruto never even tried to fix things with her unless she never told anyone about it.
Sakura walked into the hospital. She had told Hinata that she would visit and even if she was feeling like shit since Sasukes visit. She put on a strong face and promised herself not to say anything to Hinata. Sakura knew she shouldn't be put in such a stressful situation right after birth. Hinata obviously cared about Naruto even if it was unclear why, but she couldn't judge she still liked Sasuke after he became a rouge ninja killed countless people and attempted to kill her more than once. She just guessed that it took a lot for girls in the hidden leaf to give up on the guys they liked.
"Hey guys. How are you feeling Hinata? Did they say when you're clear to go," she asked as she entered the hospital room.
"I'm feeling fine, and they said I'm clear to go tonight as long as I feel up to it," Hinata replied.
"Thats good. So, did you decide on names yet," Sakura asked.
"I have some ideas, but I wanted Narutos opinion first," she said.
Sakura wasn't sure what to say, but she knew it would be weird not to reply.
"Well, I'm sure whatever you decided on he would agree with," she said hoping she sounded convincing.
"Yeah, I guess but it would be nice to know for sure," she said.
Sakura smiled. Naruto wasn't around and wouldn't be able to help her with the names. She did think he would be happy regardless though. Everyone continued to talk and pass around the twins. They were having a great time even if the looming topic of Narutos death would need to come up eventually. The kids were cute. Naruto would have loved to spend time raising his children.
Hinata went home without officially naming her kids the hospital said she had a week to change their "names" which were just numbers. Hanabi stayed with Hinata the first night. Helping with her nephew and niece was exciting. She wasn't used to taking care of another life, but she enjoyed it. She allowed Hinata to rest so she would watch them for a few hours. She knew what they would need to tell her the next day and she hoped her big sister would take the news well. She had kids to raise even if she had the entire clan to help, she was their mother and having two absent parents couldn't be good for them. She started to think about Naruto. He wasn't raised by his parents or even a clan. He had been alone since he was forced to move out of the orphanage. Hanabi didn't like Naruto much after how he treated his sister, but he was awfully confident about not beating her. Maybe she would do what he said one of these days. First, she had to focus on her nephew and niece she could worry about whether her sister was telling the truth another day.
When Hinata woke up she went to the nursery and found her sister holding the twins. She watched how her sister took care of them and was amazed she was so good with kids considering her tough attitude and lack of experience parenting. She still had the clan's attention along with their fathers. Hinata usually disappointed the clan, and her father wasn't impressed by her for a long time especially as a child.
"Goodmorning Hinata how did you sleep, I was going to wake you up soon they need to eat, and I wanted to sleep a little. They slept a good amount last night, but it was hard sleeping knowing they were right there and could wake up anytime," Hanabi said once she noticed her sister standing in the doorway.
"I slept well. Thank you for taking such good care of them. I'll take them for now," Hinata said.
"No problem sis, I'm going to sleep in the guest bedroom wake me if you need any help," she said before disappearing.
She spent the next few hours holding the twins and feeding them. They were the best thing to ever happen to her. She had hoped Naruto would have come by to see them by now. It wasn't too early, but he hadn't been seen in two days and it was beginning to worry her. Around eleven she heard a knock on the door and assumed one of her many friends or family members or maybe even Naruto was there to visit. She had been surprised when she opened the door to find the entire Konoha 12 minus Sasuke and Naruto she noticed. Kakashi was also with them.
"Hey Hinata, we need to talk to you about something," Shikamaru said. She was worried that she might have been too on the nose when defending Naruto. She was questioning whether or not they knew the truth, but knew either way she couldn't refuse them, so she motioned them to come in.
"What's up guys is something wrong," she asked.
Shikamaru continued to take the lead, "Yes actually you should sit down. We've been lying to you. We know where Naruto is. Let me finish please. When you asked us to go get him the other day, we didn't get an answer. Eventually we forced our way into his apartment. Hinata Naruto killed himself. We chose not to tell you until you got home and were recovered enough from giving birth."
Hinata didn't know what to say she was angry and upset and felt like her world had been destroyed. She thought Naruto was going to stick around, but she couldn't say she hadn't seen this as a possibility. It was the whole reason she wanted everyone to visit him. She felt if there was at least some support again he wouldn't feel so alone and would stick around to raise the kids with her.
"Are you sure. It's not a trick he didn't run away it isn't some sort of sick joke," she hoped they were lying to her no matter how cruel that would be.
"It's not a trick. Hes gone," Ino said as she sat down beside her.
"Why didn't anyone tell me. Ive been waiting for him to show up. I've been hoping he would walk through the door and ask to see his kids. Why didn't you tell me," She pleaded.
"We didn't want any complications to occur during your delivery or when you were recovering from the initial aftermath of labor. We didn't do it to hurt you in any way we just wanted to make sure you were healthy enough to take the news," Sakura explained.
"I know its sudden, but the funeral will take place this Friday. Invitations have been sent across the world. We will read his will after the funeral. I know we all failed him in many ways, but I think it's time we honor everything he has done. Naruto wasn't raised in a healthy environment if he was, he would have known what he did to you wasn't acceptable behavior. From now on we will make sure every orphan in the hidden leaf is taken care of properly, so no one grows up without knowing how to treat their partner," Kakashi said.
Hinata was crying. She failed him and because of her faults everyone turned their backs on him. She said that she loved Naruto but fucked another man and wished to run away with him when she initially wrote the letter to Ay. She didn't realize how much she still cared about Naruto. She wasn't lying when she told him that she still loved him. He even said that he loved her so why did he kill himself. They could have fixed everything.
"Hinata. When we were at his house, he left this letter on the table for you. I hope you're okay we can get through this together. All of us will be better in order to honor him and fix the mistakes we made," Shikamaru said as he gave her the letter.
Everyone but Sakura, Neji and Ino left. Neji went to make sure his cousins were okay since he heard crying. It was like they knew Naruto was dead. Ino and Sakura made Hinata lay down to rest and made her she got food and something to drink. She needed to stay well fed in order to make milk for her kids.
Hinata fell asleep and when she woke up, she saw her friends along with Neji and Hanabi talking and holding the babies. As she laid there, she thought they needed names and Naruto wouldn't be able to give his opinion. She decided to name them after Naruto or at least what he reminded everyone of.
"I think I figured out their names," she said.
This caught the rooms attention.
"So, what did you decide big sister," Hanabi said. She was very excited to finally be able to use their names it felt like forever even if they had only been alive less than two full days.
"The boy will be named Nikko and the girl will be named Himawari," she announced. She thought they were fitting. Everyone always thought Naruto was like the sun. He shone bright and was a beacon of hope. He had always been there and was as reliable as the sun coming up in the morning.
"So, you named them after things that Naruto reminded you of. Nikko means sunshine and Himawari means sunflower," Hanabi said.
"I think they're perfect," Ino chirped. Sakura nodded in agreement.
"They really are suiting names for the kids of sunshine incarnate," Neji joked.
Everyone was shocked that Neji had actually joked even if it wasn't anything crazy, he made a joke. They spent the rest of the day laughing and keeping Hinata occupied so she couldn't get distracted thinking about Naruto.
"If you need anyone to stay with you or if Hanabi needs a break for a mission or anything else don't forget to let us know. Any one of us would be happy to help you," Ino said while Neji and Sakura agreed.
'Kurama, I need you other half to perform another shockwave. We'll be here until Friday if he does one more in the morning the chakra will prevent anyone from noticing our chakra as we leave,' Naruto said.
'No problem I'm already on it. Should he wait until after that happens before alerting the other tailed beast about your death,' Kurama asked.
'Yes, that way after the shockwave he can disappear and go talk to them,' Naruto responded.
In the morning a massive shockwave was felt across the entire village. Kurama could be heard stomping about again confirming Narutos death. Kakashi saw the nine-tails and wasn't sure what its move would be. They had been the cause of Narutos death, but as the fox moved around, he wasn't destroying much they had just felt a massive shockwave of chakra, but he wasn't sure why it did that. The fox disappeared after the shockwave hit. He didn't know how they were going to seal the fox. He didn't feel comfortable sealing it into one of Narutos children and there were no other Uzumaki's alive, so it was difficult to come to a decision. Until the fox started to cause problems, he would ignore it if it ignored them.
The rest of the shinobi in the village were curious as to what the shockwave of chakra was coming from until they saw the nine-tails and tried to attack it. However, it ran before anything had happened. Seeing Kurama run around confirmed to Hinata that Naruto didn't run away he was dead since the Kurama was just running around with no container.
Kurama did his job and disappeared. He needed somewhere safe to hide before contacting the other tailed beast. Once he did, he went into the mindscape and saw everyone was there including the most important members the one and eight tails.
'Kurama why did you contact us this isn't like you. Where's Naruto he should be with you as well,' Gyuki the eight tails asked.
'Yeah, where is the little brat,' Shukaku the one tail asked.
'Naruto freed me before killing himself,' Kurama responded.
This shocked the tailed beast. They didn't expect that.
'What do you mean little bro was happy rarely sappy. It's not something Mr. Sunshine would do ya know ya know,' Bee said.
'Yes, I agree Naruto was always happy what do you mean he killed himself,' Gaara questioned.
'The world had turned their backs on him. Naruto was found out to be beating his wife. After that Naruto had fallen into a depression since everything, he worked so hard to earn was gone," Kurama explained.
'Why are you telling us this though,' Son Goku asked.
'I mostly wanted to let Bee and Gaara know since they were friends of his,' Kurama responded.
'Thank you for letting us know this is an unfortunate event. I had been told Naruto beat his wife even though I had trouble believing that. My sister has been quite adamant about how awful Naruto must have become. It has been hard for me to contact him as the leader of my village. I did worse things as a kid, but my sister made sure I realized how awful it is to beat a significant other. I wished I had made a better effort to reach out to him and make sure he knew I would support him from afar,' Gaara said.
'Ya know Naruto had no flow, but he was great dude who did his best to improve the world not only as a jinchurki but as person he was constantly striving for peace,' Bee said.
With that the tailed beast all left. Kurama then called everyone but the one and eight tails.
'Why did you call us again and where is Shukaku and Gyuki,' Son Goku asked.
'Simple Naruto isn't actually dead. He faked his death because he was falsely accused. His wife lied she was cheating on Naruto and to avoid consequences she lied to everyone. They spent no time trying to confirm his story. He fell into a depression, and it only continued to get worse until he had actually attempted to kill himself, but his ex-wife found him before he was dead. After that Naruto decided, he was going to disappear if you look deeply, you'll notice your chakra still connected to him he's just suppressing it for now,' Kurama explained.
'Why are you hiding this from the other two though,' Isobu the three tails asked.
'Naruto doesn't want anyone to know he is still alive. Since Gyuki and Shukaku have jinchurikis they can't know,' Kurama said.
'I don't get why you're telling us though,' Son Goku said.
'Simple if you randomly noticed he was alive problems could occur. The same could be said for Gyuki and Shukaku, but we can all deny it if mentioned or they won't notice because they have jinchurikis of their own,' Kurama said.
'Okay does he need anything other than our secrecy,' Isobu asked.
'Not for the time being,' Kurama responded.
They all agreed to keep quiet about Naruto still being alive. They didn't see why they shouldn't keep his secret they understood the desire to stay away from humans.
Kuramas other half relayed their decision and Naruto was pleased they agreed. Now he only had to wait until he and Sasuke went to his funeral before leaving.
The next few days went by smoothly. Hinata wanted to read the letter he left but was scared to in case it was anything bad. Hanabi had tried to get her to read it, but she said she'd read it when she was ready. When Friday came Hinata was having trouble keeping her emotions in check. Her and Hanabi grabbed the kids and left the house heading to the funeral.
The weather seemed too nice for what type of event they were heading to. She felt like the heavens should be crying, but the weather was nice. It wasn't too hot the sun was shining but there were enough clouds that it wasn't beaming down on anyone for too long and even the breeze was gentle.
The Konoha 12 had their own seats upfront along with Gaara and Killer Bee and Kakashi. She was shocked so many people had decided to attend. She had noticed Ay was there and she hoped he didn't come up to her. She didn't want to talk to him and knew he would bring up the kids and probably ask why he wasn't told about them. She also didn't want him to take any interest in the kids since that might be suspicious considering Naruto said that she was cheating on him with Ay. The funeral was quick not many people decided to speak. Sasuke came which surprised her since she hadn't known he was in the village. When Kakashi asked if anyone wanted to speak more surprises came as Sasuke got up to speak.
"Since I'm here I felt it was necessary to say a few words about my best friend. When I met Naruto, he was an annoying, loud mouthed, and overconfident kid who seemed to lack social skills and a brain. What I didn't know about Naruto Uzumaki was that he wasn't just an annoying orphan that the village hated for something out of his control. I didn't know that he was the guy who would annoy his way into every friendship he had including ours. I didn't know he would change the world the way he did. I didn't realize how hard his life was or why he threw himself into danger the way he did. It wasn't due to stupidity or because he was suicidal, he did it in order to prove himself to the world. Naruto wasn't trying to be a hero. He simply wanted someone to care about him. He said I was his first friend someone he considered to be family we were brothers. I became the family he never had, and he became the brother I had lost,'..., Sasuke paused looked at everyone in attendance...,'Even though I betrayed him he never gave up on saving me from the darkness he realized I was in. He convinced me to protect the village that anyone can come from darkness and embrace the light. He was that light for so many. Sadly, he's no longer here to be that light and there's many people to blame for that. I came back to the village to find that Naruto was not only dead, but the same people who he risked his life for, the same people who he saved, the same people that he loved and called family turned their backs on him. I would never condone what Hinata claimed he did, but I also would never be able to believe that the same Naruto I knew would lay a hand on someone he loved in a violent way unless they were being like me. And let me say I deserved to lose an arm after what I did. I was a traitor who left the leaf village on a vendetta to kill my brother that turned into a vendetta to destroy the village. I spent my time from age 13 until I was 17 years committing violent crimes against anyone who stood in my way and from the time, I was 7 until then I was trying to get strong enough to take my revenge, but today I get to stand here and mourn for my friend. Even though what I did was much worse than what he was accused of I've been forgiven yet he was shunned, abused, and hated by the same people that claimed to love and care about him. I failed Naruto. I wasn't here when he needed a friend more than anything else. I wasn't there for Naruto when he lost his master, Jiraiya. I wasn't there when he was shunned as a kid, and I wasn't there when you guys shunned him now. I wasn't there to help him get stronger I was the reason he felt he had to get strong. The only thing I did for my best friend was run when I should have been by his side. I'm not the only one to blame though. Sakura, Kakashi, Tsunade, Iruka, Shikamaru and so many others turned their backs on him. His teachers and best friends have failed Naruto. Even though those same people forgave me they may not all trust me, but they forgave me. They aren't alone though the entire leaf village and the other villages decided to turn their backs on one of the greatest people who ever had the poor luck to live in this village...' Sasuke looked at the crowd again. They were getting uneasy he could see the guilt and realization that was setting in. Some were even crying...' Naruto was simply a weapon that this village used. He only had a few years to feel like he was loved and cared for, but it seemed to have been a lie as everyone here today is the reason Naruto decided he would rather die than live in a world that never accepted him no matter how many times he risked his life or forgave this village he died being hated more than the villains he fought against. Naruto was hated by this village so much you celebrated when he was sent on a suicide mission and when he returned, he was sent on missions to fight armies alone and gather intel that if he had been caught, he would have been killed. I guess he got tired of the missions not fulfilling their purpose and chose to grant everyone their wish, so when you party thank him for finally granting you guys your wish. I just hope it was all worth it," Sasuke finished his speech and looked right at Hinata as he said the last sentence.
The funeral didn't last long after that. Everyone laid a black rose on his grave one by one. Hinata stood in front of his body and cried. She hoped he was in a place he could find peace in. She couldn't stop crying as she thought about everything that brought upon this day. Hinata knew everything had been her fault and she had a feeling Sasuke knew. The way he looked at her as he finished his speech made her nervous it scared her. She was the cause of his best friend being in a grave rather than enjoying his life on the road to becoming the Hokage and raising his kids.
The funeral ended as she stood there by herself. Hanabi and some others headed back to her house with the twins. She knew she would have to go back to handle Narutos will, but she wasn't ready to do that yet. Ay thankfully left with Bee, but she hadn't realized Sasuke was still there. She also didn't realize the stranger by his side
"I know what you did. If Naruto wouldn't hate me for it, I would kill you even if you deserve to suffer, I would rather see you in a grave than walking around after the pain you caused him," Sasuke said coldly.
"I really am sorry. I know I made mistake after mistake. I just hope I can raise his kids so they can be better than me," she admitted.
"I hope you do as well. He deserves that at least and remember all it would take for me is a simple genjutsu and I could expose the truth to the entire world," he responded.
Hinata felt chills go down her spine as he said that. He was right of course all it would take is a genjutsu and she would lose everything as he exposed all she had lied and hid away. He wasn't like her friends and the village Naruto was his best friend and he would defend him if it meant death. After his threat Sasuke went to leave but Hinata asked who the stranger was.
"I met him during my travels he's been traveling with me his name is Taiyo Shorihi," Sasuke said.
Hinata looked at the man he was tall with a strong stature. He had black hair in a similar style to Naruto, but his eyes were an emerald green, and he had no whiskers. He felt oddly familiar. She didn't know why but it felt like they had met, and she felt a pool towards him. It was an odd feeling.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Hyūga or is it Uzumaki. I'm sorry for your loss. Sasuke told me a lot about Naruto he seemed like a good man," Taiyo said.
"Mrs. Uzumaki please and he was one of the best," she said smiling for the first time all day.
Sasuke and Taiyo left. Hinata activated her byakugan. She needed to see his chakra he felt too familiar for her not to recognize. Hinata was blinded by red chakra filling the entire area. She assumed it was from the shockwave the nine-tails created that they felt the other day. Getting no answers about the familiar mystery man she decided to make her leave as well. Kakashi had said they were going to open Narutos final will and testament after the funeral.
Once she opened the door to her house, she looked at everyone they weren't nearly as sad as she was. It was like Narutos death didn't affect them much.
"Hinata you're back which means we can read his will," Kakashi said.
She moved across the living room and onto the couch. She wasn't ready for this, but she had to be there. Kakashi opened the envelope and began to read. It was hard to listen to. The first few things were the formal stuff he was married to no one what his name was who he divorced. A citizen would add a burial part, but a shinobi expected to be buried as one if they had a body to bury. It also included who would execute Narutos will which was Kakashi.
"I, Naruto Uzumaki son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, bequeath jutsu scrolls and scrolls of family history to my unborn child the heir to the Uzumaki clan," Kakashi said.
Kakashi then continued reading the will.
"I, Naruto Uzumaki son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, bequeath my savings of roughly 8,000,000 Ryō, and any other earthly possessions to Hinata Hyūga my ex-wife and mother of my child," Kakashi finished.
"So, it looks like everything of his is yours even in death he's looking out for his kid," Kakashi said before standing and excusing himself.
Everyone looked at her like it was a good thing. Naruto was dead and he left his money to her even though her clan didn't need it she wasn't exactly able to go on missions. She had guessed he had been saving all that from the suicide missions he was sent on.
After it started to get late people began to leave. They had spent the rest of the day with Hinata to mourn together, but everyone needed a drink or to be alone. Sakura found herself in a small pub. She needed a drink more than anything else. As she went to find a seat, she found Tsunade Shizune and Kakashi sitting in a booth together. She walked up to them, and they motioned for her to sit down.
For a few moments they were silent only speaking when the waitress asked them if they needed anything which the entire table just asked for some sake.
"Is Sasuke right? Did we fail Naruto," shockingly Kakashi was the one to ask.
"Yeah, I think we did," Sakura responded.
"He beat his wife what were we supposed to do," Tsunade questioned.
"Why does that matter? Sasuke killed people and we forgave him," Sakura said.
"Well, isn't this different. Ninja kill people all the time it's a part of the job, but we don't abuse our families," Tsunade replied.
"Sasuke is still right. He killed people and we forgave him. It wasn't always in self-defense or on a mission that Sasuke was killing people. He did it as a rouge shinobi. Naruto was in the village and had to lose every ounce of respect and care he earned. Sure, he beat his wife and that's not acceptable, but after the life he lived he probably didn't realize that's not something you do to the people you love. When you think about it Narutos mom use to his Minato sensei when she was mad, Sakura always hit Naruto if he annoyed her and even you Tsunade. You used to hit Master Jiraya when he pissed you off. Naruto was only copying what the people he cared about did to the people they cared about," Kakashi explained.
This annoyed Tsunade and Sakura.
"Are you blaming us for Narutos death," Sakura yelled loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear.
"No, I'm simply saying that Naruto was only copying what he saw others do. We should have taken the time to explain that it's not appropriate behavior. If we had explained that earlier maybe none of this would have happened. Even if we were simply there for him afterwards this could have been fixed," he explained further.
"You're right. We abandoned him even though we claimed to care and why because we were disappointed in the behavior he copied from us," Tsunade said.
Everyone agreed and went quiet for a while. They continued to drink more. Tsunade was slowly getting wasted and even Kakashi was a bit drunk. It entertained Sakura to see her sensei's drunk. After another round Tsunade raised another question.
"Did we treat Naruto like a weapon," She slurred her words as she asked the question.
"I did," Kakashi admitted slowly.
Everyone looked at him as if waiting for an explanation.
"It's obvious that I did. I had him go on a total of twelve S-rank missions in only nine months. I was just pointing him and throwing. When he came back from one mission, I would give him enough time to rest and he would leave for another one or he would take more time and go request another when ready, but any issue that could have become a problem or had the chance to kill him I sent him on. I'm pathetic. I don't deserve to be Hokage and I don't deserve to be called a sensei when I failed all my students more than once. I sat there disappointed in Naruto as if I couldn't have helped him and tried to send him to his death bed," Kakashi was getting emotional as he talked.
"I would like to believe I didn't use him as a weapon, but I still helped raise him as one. He was a jinchuriki the ultimate weapon even if I only sent him on normal missions with a team, I was still preparing him to be used as a weapon for the leaf. I even had Jiraiya help train him to control the beast," Tsunade admitted.
"I didn't treat him as a weapon, but I always expected him to save me. I tried to catch up to him, but there was no catching up and he just kept saving me," Sakura said
The night went on and everyone continued to drink. They eventually got dragged to their homes by various Anbu guards. At the same time another group was getting drunk and thinking about Naruto.
The Nara household wasn't anything giant like the Hyūgas or once large Uchiha district, but it was still nice enough since they were a prominent clan in Konoha. The clan head along with his two best friends sat at the table in the dining room and spent the night talking and thinking about one Naruto Uzumaki.
"He's really gone isn't he," Choji asked.
"Yeah, he really is gone," Shikamaru responded.
Choji was eating his favorite chips and had already demolished seven bags and was eating his eighth.
"I never would have thought he would kill himself," Ino said.
"Well, it's not that shocking after everything he's been through," Shikamaru said.
"I know. Do you think Sasuke is right," Ino questioned.
"I hate to admit it, but he is. Naruto spent his entire life fighting for attention that everyone else got just by being alive. Of course, there were other orphans in the village, but none of them were hated for existing. Sasuke was admired by every girl in our age group. Kakashi who's also an orphan had friends and a sensei and chose to be alone even though he was gifted and popular. Iruka had his ninja friends. Nothing replaces the love of a family, but Naruto didn't even experience that until he was a teenager. We failed Naruto by not being there for him after he made a mistake, we can't even be sure whether he knew what was wrong. He probably picked it up watching the girls in the village. All of them tend to hit their loved ones. I doubt he realized it wasn't something guys were supposed to do. Even if he did Sasuke was forgiven after doing much worse things. He was right we failed Naruto," Shikamaru explained.
"But what were we supposed to do after he hurt Hinata like that," Choji asked.
"We could have at least tried to explain what he did was wrong. We also didn't believe him even though he sounded so certain. All evidence pointed towards him being wrong, but maybe we missed something. Did Hinata lie and was Naruto actually right," Shikamaru asked the others.
"I don't know Hinata isn't one to lie and she didn't sound like she was lying to me," Ino said.
"I don't know let's just drink and remember Naruto for all the good times we spent with him," Shikamaru said as he lit a cigarette and began pouring more drinks
Slowly everyone was getting drunk or crying alone and many were beginning to question whether they did the right thing by shunning Naruto.
Back at Hinatas house Hanabi was staying again and so was Neji. He loved spending time with his younger niece and nephew. Hinata insisted they were going to call him Uncle Neji, so he was getting used to considering himself their uncle. As everyone began to settle down and go to bed, they had put the kids to bed a few hours ago and they hadn't woken up yet, so they decided to go to bed as well. Hinata was quickly cleaning up the place before going to bed. She noticed the letter Naruto left. She was scared to open it not knowing what it might be about. She decided that she needed to open it regardless of what might be in the letter. Bringing it upstairs she sat in her bed and opened it. He sealed it so it only reacted to her chakra clearly, he only wanted her to read it.
Dear Hinata,
By time you read this I will already be dead. I had my reasons for doing this it isn't because I don't want to be there for your kid. I would have liked to say that it was mine, but we both know it was more than possible for it to be Ays. I don't want to make this letter too long. I just wanted to let you know that I didn't die hating you I died hating the world. I was born into the world and if things went differently, I would have known love and happiness early in life, but I didn't live that dream. I grew up hated by the world for something I didn't control. If I knew the village never dropped their hatred of me and knew my "Friends" would turn on me without even attempting to believe me I would have done this earlier.
I did everything to prove to the world that I was worth caring about. I simply got laughed at in response. The world took no time turning on me once you lied about me abusing you. I remember that you said you still loved me. I have trouble believing you even as I'm writing this. I don't understand how you thought I was so horrible that someone that attempted to kidnap you for your eyes was worth cheating on me with. Even Kiba would have been a better option considering we all know he has been wanting to be with you since we became genin. I really don't understand you. I thought you knew me, but apparently all the stalking you did didn't help you learn a thing about me. I would have put my dream to be Hokage on hold if it meant making you happy. In your letter you said was meant for Ay you mentioned that I didn't get how you were feeling. That I didn't understand you on the same level that he did and maybe that was true, but you never tried to tell me how you felt. I came home from every mission after the miscarriage and tried to comfort you. I know I wasn't there as much as I should have been, but I asked if you were okay, and you insisted you were. I don't remember how many times I begged you to talk to me so I could try to help you heal, but I wasn't Ay, I guess.
I loved you more than life itself. I fought a god to get you back and fought years' worth of trauma and emotional and mental issues in order to realize that I loved you more than life. I did my best to make you happy. All you ever needed to do was ask and I would have told Kakashi that I wasn't available for missions. You just needed to trust me and open up about how you felt that way I could have done my best to help you. I honestly should hate you, but I believe if you truly love someone you don't stop loving them. Maybe the love isn't as strong as it once was and maybe a different emotion is more prominent, but the love is still there even if it is buried deep inside. I know this because deep down I do love you still even though I should want you dead I should want you exposed, but I'm still trying to protect you like the idiot I am. I always was a fool so it's fitting I die one as well.
I don't know what else to say. I hope you raise your child to be capable of claiming our heritage. I don't care if they never wish to claim their Uzumaki heritage if they're even mine. I just want them to be happy. The money I left for you can be used for whatever you want I don't care, but the scrolls I left for the kids burn them if the kid isn't mine. Let the Uzumaki name die with me.
I also left the letters you sent to me in the envelope. Here's your chance to get rid of the evidence if you want.
-Naruto Uzumaki
Hinata was crying. After all this time after everything she did, he still found it in him to love her. She stabbed him in the back, cheated on him, and made him live his worst nightmare. He allowed her to keep the evidence that could have proved him innocent and killed himself still protecting the family she took from him.She cried as she thought about the mistakes she has made. Her emotional immaturity caused her to cheat on someone she loved. She fell in love with someone that she barely knewand had sex with said man in the bed she and her husband shared. If she had simply had the courage to open upNaruto and her would be together still and everything would be good in the world. Hinata spent the rest of the night crying only leaving her bed to feed the twins in the middle of the night.
"Thanks for all the nice things you said about me," Naruto said.
"It's easier to open up about those things when pretending you're dead," Sasuke said completely serious.
"I'm glad. You know you didn't need to threaten Hinata back there," Naruto mentioned.
"I know, but I meant every word. She deserved much worse. I just hope fate bites her in the ass," he said.
Naruto laughed and said, "Fate would be lucky to do so."
Sasuke rolled his eyes and Narutos stupid comment. They ran for a few more hours before reaching Narutos new safe house. Then Naruto noticed the stinging in his hand. Hinata finally opened the letter he left. He said he left the letters she meant to send to Ay with her, but he had a copy in his bag. He didn't plan on doing anything with them, but it might be needed at some point.
AN
That's another chapter down. A lot happens since its a long chapter. I changed "Borutos" name since it works with the plot well. I didnt change Himawaris name since i like it more and it means Sunflower so it works with the plot and Hinata naming the kids after what reminds her of Naruto. Im not saying the twins are Narutos nothing is confirmed yet they will be officially revealed eventually just not yet.
To mention the Kiba should have smelt Ays scent on Hinata. He should have, but I forgot about his naturally heightened sense of smell so that's just a plot hole in the story due to author error. Mistakes happen and this is the first story I've written in years and the first time I'm writing anything to do with Naruto. Slip ups and mistakes will happen, but ill do my best to keep them to a minimum.
Sasuke gets to yell at a crowd about Narutos treatment and we see people are questioning their behavior now. It will be a lot of fun to write Hinata being exposed and watching everyone try to correct their mistakes but it wont matter since Naruto will be too far gone by the time they meet again. I want to warn everyone the next 'Arc' will focus mostly on Naruto and Sasuke so the people in the leaf wont be shown as much. For the people who want to know when is Naruto going to destroy the first village. Its going to happen at the end of the following 'Arc' i wont spoil anything but you can look forward to that happening. From now on things will move a bit quicker. Time will be skipped at portions. There's roughly five years before Naruto shows up at the Hidden Leaf to fuck shit up.
I am starting to move starting today so i wont be able to write as much as i have. I have been posting a new chapter roughly every day or every other day for the past two weeks, but there might be some time between now and the next update. Im going to be painting today/tomorrow moving stuff in on saturday im also celebrating my brothers birthday on saturday and sunday could be busy if i dont get everything moved in saturday.
I hope everyone is enjoying the story I'm enjoying writing it. Please remember to like follow and review the story. PM me with questions or suggestions or to talk about Naruto in general since there's plenty I don't know from movies and filler and who knows maybe ill get inspiration and run with something.
