Chapter 30: School Festival, China Mafia Edition
Today was the big day at Yokai Academy. Lessons were interrupted for the time being, same for club activities and fun-related stuff.
Everyone, from students to teachers, were waiting with excitement at the proper beginning of the School Festival as all preparations were finally completed. The entire school had been fully shifted to allow parents and other relatives to the students as guests to see how the situation was for those studying here and what kind of potential the school had when it came to big events. All clubs had their own small 'presentation' which showed their qualities while also encouraging possible new students to eventually join those if they decided to join Yokai Academy in the next few years. I did all that was possible to get the main point of the club I was heading by employing a modest-sized TV, some clips from current TV series and have a few of the club members explain to those that checked our stand once the vision was over why those were important to highlight aspects of human society and why those held a degree of importance to properly fit in modern society. In a sense, it felt like a bit of a science fair, except those assigned to this task were actually explaining sociology to a certain degree while going through their expositions instead of science-based facts. Inari was going to be part of this since she didn't have to expect her parents to come and check on her. All in all, it was a 'positive way' to entertain herself for a few hours. Deshiko was glued by her side, helping her up like an assistant or a secretary. Kind of cute in a way, but it was clear from certain looks and expressions the redhead took that she was still a pervert, regardless of how normal the situation she was in was.
Things remained particularly calm even as the groups of parents started to fill up the main space of the school to check the 'festival' aspect of the event and the games that were set up there, while a few were given tours around the school and told how the schedule and classes worked on a regular time. The Headmaster was merely looking around by the entrance, seemingly taking the chance of speaking with some of the men and women that had the chance of meeting him beforehand and that wanted to talk to him. Ruby and Hokuto wouldn't leave his side as they would provide answers to any questions advanced by those interested in matters tied to the school. So the main gates were incredibly secure and devoid of any troublesome affair when it came to the trouble that tied up to possible infiltration. After just two hours of the main event being explored, there was nothing that really caught attention from others, even as Katsue proceeded to take long routes to see for any suspicious activity unfolding within the main school area. Nothing strange got to her, and much to my relief, I was stuck dealing with a bit of a clusterfuck of 'drama' to some extent. Moka joined her the moment the Vampire was told that there was a chance for some ass-kicking. She was willing to put differences with the werewolf if it came to dropping kick-driven punishments to any 'mongrels' trying to enter the school uninvited.
Zip was currently 'missing', or rather she was busy with the small-scale security system she applied in some spots of the entrance courtyard. Nothing invasive, but it tied up to specific magical concentration which would help us determine if someone is planning to use any magical tool to bolster any attack at the school. The sad thing was that the spirit couldn't be around to check on what was going on around and was stuck there. I promised her to bring something nice from what was being sold by some student. I saw some of the geeks showing off some nice hardware and selling it fairly cheap. I wasn't exactly sure she was going to do something with it with its intended purpose or refit it to other needs, but I knew she was going to appreciate it as a fine addition to her workshop. A bit of a sad development since I knew the girl would have loved to be around and checked out the fine pieces of butts that were hanging around all over the school at the time.
While the prelude of the two main 'issues' that came forth for me to face and win over would have been easily attributed to the beginning of a canon mess, the thing is that… I was already prepared for both. The first, and perhaps the most pressing of the two, was the situation with Ageha and Tsurara, Kurumu and Mizore's mothers respectively. I knew the older Succubus quite well, and the woman was keen to give me a full booby hug due to this. Kurumu was slightly annoyed by this, but her mom didn't go any further beyond that. Too open of a setting for her to try anything funny with me, but she looked ready to jump the moment she got me in the best scenario: me, her, a bed, only us, plenty of time to blow off some steam. Sadly, that scenario wasn't exactly available due to the current circumstances that tied up to her visit. Tsurara was… well, a little less ecstatic to meet me. I was the guy that her daughter had told her about, the one that gave her the chance to not have to jump the gun when it comes to finding the ideal husband and getting a baby in her as quickly as possible. She was… happy, mostly because of this very reason and the fact I had slowly coaxed Mizore to make use of her stealthy ways more like a spy than an outright stalker.
Still… she had a bit of reservation when it came to the fact that I was also close to the daughter of her former rival. As expected, that bit from the Anime had somehow remained within the timeline… which was odd considering how most of the timeline itself was tying up to the manga. Yet this wasn't really that bad. It just made for quite the 'entertaining banter' while we were standing relatively close to one another.
"Still, I would say it was your fault when he decided to go for that other girl," Tsurara rebuked, showing to be fiercely stuck on the point that she was the least guilty of the two MILFs when it came to what happened to their high school situation. "You just couldn't take a loss."
"There was nothing that said I was 'losing' as you put it. In fact, he was weirded out by how lame you were even back then."
No escalation, just bickering. I think it was mostly due to the fact that their daughters were watching the entire situation and they didn't want to put a bad impression on them by behaving too 'childishly'. I remained quiet during the entire skirmish, sparing looks at both Kurumu and Mizore as the two girls were a bit unnerved by this matter but… well, they both looked to be comfy while both took my arms to keep close by my side. No issues in that regard too, the feeling of their tits on me was heart-warming and the lack of any attempt to 'show off' the other just made the entire thing the best possible. Still, after a while, I noticed that other parents were getting a bit unnerved by the relative loudness of this 'competition' and I knew that, even though it would be best to keep quiet and let all that steam be blown away by their moderate bickering, I had to intervene. So… I did, and I took under consideration a few elements before starting.
"So, Shirayuki-san and Kurono-san, I don't wish to be too abrupt, but from what I understand you don't think positively of each other due to a problem you both had in the past, right?"
The older Succubus was the first one to recover from that interjection, sighing tiredly before nodding.
"You may say that. In fact, it was how we came to meet and… know each other."
"A shallow woman," Tsurara muttered flatly, getting a snort from Ageha.
"Well, you're not any better if I am shallow, ice bi-"
"Ladies, one moment," I interrupted with a bit of a louder tone compared to theirs. "I understand that you two are still angry about that matter but… maybe it's about time you let go of it? Like, there is literally nothing that prevents you from burying the war hatchet."
"It's… not that simple," Tsurara pointed out with an uneasy tone.
"I guess it's pride. For the two of us."
"Then how about you do it for your daughters' sake? They are close friends after all."
I felt a jerk for bringing both Kurumu and Mizore into this when they had looked fairly unsure of jumping into this conversation or not… but they seemed to take it as a good way to push up their own issue with this matter at that moment. And I was reminded of the fact both weren't exactly submissive towards their mothers when it came to this kind of stuff.
"Yeah, Mizore-chan is nice and kind. I just don't understand why keeping this whole thing up. Isn't the guy you were going after already married?"
"Y-Yeah, but it's more than just-" Ageha tried to reason, but she was interrupted by the younger Yuki Onna.
"I think Kurumu-chan is one of my precious friends, so it really makes me sad that Kaa-san and her mother are so against each other. I don't want to be disrespectful, but I think you two would be friends if you stopped this for good."
The two MILFs stopped just for a moment, actually pondering about it and giving each other a long look.
"To be fair, we never discussed anything beyond that rivalry. I never saw the point and-"
"I didn't either," Tsurara confirmed with a hint of awkwardness. "I guess it does sound a bit childish now that we have our own children..."
"Just a bit. But not enough to prevent us from mending this in a proper friendship. After all, if my Kurumu-chan is so happy to be around Mizore-chan, then I guess there is a base we can work on."
"Perhaps," The older Yuki Onna agreed with a small smile. "Still, speaking of our daughters, we could also address the fact that… they are quite close to Barrett-san."
Ageha chuckled. "I guess that's something we should really investigate further~."
And cue the little shift into an interrogation where I was grilled about the relationship I had with Kurumu and Mizore. To be fair, I didn't have reasons to lie to them about the general outline of the situation without going into details about the full implication tied to it, and both girls were more than happy to support this take on the explanation. After all, they might want to be genuine about the commitment, but I doubt they wanted to show off the fact of how sexually active they were about it. Specifically with Tsurara considering that Ageha possibly knew about what was up in that relationship. As the conversation finally saw us all discuss this matter, another topic was brought up and I was actually taken off-guard when Tsurara mentioned how the situation with Mizore was noticed and had been studied by the Snow Priestess, the ruler over all Yuki-onna. Not only she requested some blood vials, but also sent some people to check on Mizore during Summertime. I was surprised the girl hadn't told me much about it as I only knew that his mother had done stuff to check if I did the right thing or if it was just a trick, but the plum-haired girl apologizes while also mentioning that she had been told to not say anything about it until her mother gave permission to as this was critical news for her race.
The result was that it was proven that the ritual had been successful and it optimally fixed two big problems for that race at once. But while that meant I wasn't getting lynched by Yuki-Onna in the near future, it still left me with a particularly difficult situation.
"The Priestess had made a formal request to have you visit by this December. She wishes for you to perform this ritual on hers and… the rest of the women she manages to bring forth for this situation."
My lips twitched at that and… I slowly nodded, actually moving my hands to retrieve something from my bag. "Actually, that was just the first version of the process since I had worked on refining it to something less… draining on a single individual. After all, I expected that the Priestess would have requested my help for this since I already helped Mizore without any trickery, and so I worked on something that should technically make the presence of a magic user on the ritual non-mandatory. The replacement is the application of two more seals which requires only mana crystals."
"Truly?"
"Yes, but I will still visit to make sure things are fine. I believe this process can be taught to your doctors so it becomes a bit easier for them to manage the entire situation," I answered while nodding. "I put a lot of thought into this since I know I can't be efficient about it if I move too fast to get everyone fixed, and the ritual normally drains on a magician's reserves, hence why the crystals will have to be magically-dense for this occasion."
"Jake thinks a lot in advance if it means helping others," Mizore hummed happily, nuzzling onto my shoulder. "That's why we like him a lot."
I smiled widely at that warm comment and I could tell the MILFs were satisfied by what they were hearing about. A bit more satisfied with that as I recognized a familiar glint appearing in Tsurara's eyes, one that was mirrored by Ageha a little before now. I could tell that I was really going to have fun while visiting Mizore's home. There was a bit of a pleasant discussion after that but… I soon remembered I had other things to do in these few hours. With Kurumu and Mizore taking the rest of the conversation elsewhere as they showed their mothers around the school, I ended up turning my attention to a little promise I made with Yukari. The little witch had asked me to go through a tiny project just before this event and I had made the effort as soon as she was done explaining to me why she wanted me to learn sign language.
Tamamori and Fujiko Sendo, Yukari's father and mother respectively, were both mutes. I was actually surprised since I knew her father was canonically mute, but her mother was a bit of a 'maybe' considering she never used sign language to speak or there was no indication from the author to confirm this matter altogether. Still, the situation in which I found them was incredibly hilarious due to a few good reasons. First, the dad had his daughter in his arms as she told him about the last few weeks at school, the silent blond nodding as he happily listened to her narration. The older version of Yukari, which was the mother, was quietly playing with Onyx, the kitty really appreciating being worshiped this extensively. As soon as I got close enough, Yukari eagerly pulled me into that pleasant bubble she was in together with her family and… yep, I was threatened by her father's sudden 'irritation' at my arrival. It was a bit odd, but I expected the guy to still be a little suspicious of what I was planning to do with his daughter. Which was why the first bit of conversation with his signs was particularly fast-paced, a hint furious, but outright controlled to not escalate into magical blows.
After ten minutes of staunchly defending the fact I wasn't trying to do anything bad to the little witch, with small intermission of said witch supporting my own words, I managed to steer off any aggression and the man slowly but surely started to inquire more about the magic-based project I had with his daughter. He was a bit surprised with the details, but he soon turned into what I could only describe as a giddy kid getting numerous issues of his favorite comics from the way he eagerly listened about the list of things we've been doing around some magical theories. That and the fact that her daughter hadn't mentioned much to him about Maru and I was quick to bring her up. The man was quickly asking to meet her daughter's best friend and her parents maybe, putting poor Yukari under some pressure due to how insistent and giddy he sounded about it.
He had a specialization in knowledge gathering, so he was particularly engrossed by the narration as it was something that not only he liked but he also had been working on for decades now. It was, all in all, a pleasant conversation the one we shared and the blond was content that his daughter ended up befriending an 'upstanding and diligent' young magician. Then, on a side note, he asked me to keep watch over Yukari in case anyone tried to do anything bad to her. I merely replied with the signs of 'leg-breaking'. While that would have worried many, the man smiled widely.
'Only if you let me get their arms.'.
See? I knew that the big guy was a trustworthy fellow and one that would give me that duty. Which I already took without his permission, of course.
Fujiko Sendo was another story… but definitely a nutjob. I wasn't even joking when it came to her sanity as she mentioned that she would have expected both Tsurara and Ageha to remember about her, and that she was planning to attract their attention by dropping a basin filled with tiny bombs. I was a bit shocked by that revelation, but she mentioned that 'it was a thing' she used to do when she was younger. Pranks, that's what she elaborated on that point, and she defined herself the Queen of Pranks back at school. Yukari had to apologize in her stead a couple of times already, but I merely listened as the 'chatty' woman went on and on about the many pranks she used to pull on poor students back when she was still a student at Yokai Academy. I could imagine a slightly older Yukari executing some insane explosive attacks on unsuspecting individuals wandering around the halls. It was a really terrifying prospect, especially if the older witch was actually smiling silently while doing that. No giggles, only smiles.
As I was concluding this 'lovely' conversation with both parents, I almost sighed in relief when I was contacted by Zip about a curious situation unfolding on the other side of the school's perimeter. Someone had used the Lilith Mirror trick to create a diversion before trying to set up some dangerous explosive charms all over the area, attempting to create a square-sized explosion to destroy everything that was contained within the school's barrier. Very clever, but incredibly stupid considering that now going to jail wasn't going to be the worst thing they would have to worry about considering the threat they posed with this stunt.
After all, Japan still had its Capital Punishment sentence still enacted nationwide for serial massacre-makers.
Both Katsue and Moka looked slightly annoyed as they stood in front of the one that managed to quickly suppress the culprit behind that attempted terrorist attack. To be fair, I guess they just didn't expect someone that strong to be closer to the situation and intervene that quickly and with ease but…
I guess there was nothing to be surprised about when it came to Ling Ling Huang, former heiress of the renowned Huang Family. The same family which tied up with the prick I defeated back in Kyoto and… the group I really didn't want to deal with ever as possible foes. The woman herself was wearing clothes that… were common for a traditional Chinese Jiang Shi to wear. She died a few years ago due to a mysterious illness, hence why she was a 'zombie-gal' and was no longer recognized as a viable heiress of the family She had light skin, green eyes, and her black hair were tied into a long ponytail with the fringe bangs framing her face.
What really gained my attention was her huge rack, with her outfit showing a generous portion of her cleavage. She turned to look at me and only me as I got close enough to check on what had just happened. The moment I arrived, I spotted the groaning man behind the current attack struggling and failing to break through the chains keeping him bound on the ground, with Ling Ling herself pressing her right shoe onto the man's upper back. The circumstances regarding her intervention started to get a bit clearer for me to understand as soon as the headmaster arrived on the scene too.
Ling Ling's presence here was dictated by the fact she had been sent here by the Huang Family to 'apologize' on behalf of the Miao Family about what happened back a while ago. She was sent as a solo envoy, to personally speak with me in that regard and, as she came here to visit the school to also see if it could be a lovely place where her younger brother and current heir to the clan could come and study.
"It's such a lovely place, this school. So many friendly people," She praised, almost overwhelmed. "But I guess part of that behavior is tied to my beauty."
A fair point, I thought as she went back as to how she disabled the potential terrorist. The woman might not seem much, but she was able to go toe-to-toe against Akua in the manga, so I knew that she was no lucky fighter when it came to tough battles. Still, she mentioned how she noticed the guy acting particularly suspicious and she noticed the interesting energy pattern only a peculiar kind of charms had. The poor bastard had no chance when he was cornered by her, Katsue and Moka. Seeing both Werewolf and Vampire ready to strike, he tried to use a trick under his sleeves which should have stunned them all and allowed him to leave, a tiny music player with a Siren's son recorded in it. It worked on both the girls I was more familiar with… but not on Ling Ling as her unique conditions made her slightly resilient to Siren's songs.
Nonetheless, Tsubaki Rokorou was going to be intensely interrogated before being sentenced to some heavy punishment due to the act he was committing. The 'Yokai Police' arrived two hours after his capture, but in the meantime I had the chance of trying to cheer the girls up by mentioning how now they could just go around and challenge each other to the various games set at the entrance courtyard to pass time around. At first they were reluctant, saying that 'it wasn't the same', but then they started to bicker about one beating the other at these games and they were quick to take it personal and go for it. So I was left to handle Ling Ling and… I had to say I was surprised by how she perceived this opportunity. At first she smiled, but soon the woman was taking the hint and getting closer.
"I suppose I can apologize now for what happened in Kyoto. Xia-Long's actions have been seen as a sign of foolish leadership by many members of his own clan and it was decided to delegate most of the control back to the Huang Clan."
I blinked. "I guess that ended up as a win-"
"A material win while capitalizing to a material loss. Still, there are few things that have to be done to equalize the moral loss tied to that circumstance. The dishonor of that situation ever happening," She interjected calmly, giving me a long look. "So I'm here to ask you a simple question. What can the Huang Family do for you to show how truly ashamed it is of this slight upon you and your friends?"
That was quite… a big offer. Considering how the Chinese Mafia took this kind of matters, I knew that the range of proposals were incredibly big. From getting private tutoring from Touhou Fuhai, to actually asking her for some fun time. It was a big thing and yet… one that also imposed a degree of limitation. If I asked too much, I could give off an attitude that could be seen as 'too greedy', and permanently shoot down any chances of befriending the family to gain some support in the near future. No, I knew that asking too much, even within my reach, would just be more detrimental for me in the near future. So, instead of asking for something too 'tall' for someone like me, I went for something fairly simple and understandable.
"How about we spend the rest of your time here at this school… discussing what you want?"
Ling Ling remained silent for a moment, a delicate frown setting on her face at what I just offered.
"I don't… believe I understood."
"Considering that your purpose here is not only to apologize on behalf of two families, how about we also discuss the situation that ties up your brother. After all, I can help him out if he needs any assistance."
"Maybe you misunderstood. I'm not asking for you to grant us a favor-"
"You wish to mend a mistake made by someone that is loosely tied to your family. I'm aware of what I just heard, but at the same time, you mentioned that there is a difference between material and moral victory. It's a bit of a challenge, I reckon- one where you wish for me to give a material win to validate a moral one for yourselves. But maybe… I want a moral one myself."
The Jiang Shi gave me a curious look and… her smile was back, brighter than before. "I suppose it's true what Mikogami told us about. You're not a simple 'hot-blooded' American."
"I am a bit above that stereotype. But the hot-bloodedness is still there, I reckon."
"I can tell," She hummed back, glancing briefly at what I had below the belt. "Still, I would have expected you to… try to be bolder."
I grinned widely at that. "I thought about that. But it wouldn't be correct to sully a woman out of mere desire- it's not my style. I'm not a stupid pervert after all."
She brought a hand up, covering a snort as she was amused by this response.
"Apologies for being so blunt it's just..."
"Tough to not be too direct about your assessment?"
"Indeed. I suppose you have met a Jiang Shi before, else I would be intrigued to know how you tracked down my seals," The girl mused, fixing her sleeves as her 'seals bracelet' appeared to sight. I was already aware of the fact that, instead of the classic main talisman placed on her forehead, the girl had the old Fohai create a special set which could be concealed and were still effective enough without being so prominent on her appearance.
"I have a keen eye and yes, I do know a Jiang Shi."
"I… Would it be wrong if I admit that this decision of yours feels refreshing?"
"Only if you admit that you were picking the best opportunity to ogle at my package," I replied smugly, having seen a glint in her looking down that just screamed of intrigue and arousal in a good way. She… smiled even more, and then she giggled as I had struck her right in her humor.
"You- you truly are a madman for talking like this to… well, a girl from the Huang Family," The young woman commented happily, showing no annoyance or embarrassment and almost being too eager to press me some more on this discussion. "Still, I suppose you can offer me more about what the school can offer to my brother if he decides to join it?"
I nodded, smiling brilliantly as I started to list out what the young man was going to find once he enrolled at Yokai Academy. Because yes, I had a strong feeling Ling Ling was going to support him joining it for the sake of rekindling the old bond between Mikogami and Fohai after so many years of silence between these two. The chat was actually really interesting as I learned that, despite not being a Yasha anymore and having dropped the lesson from her Great-Grandparent, Ling Ling was still clever when it came to magical application of spells and charms, with seals being her weakness since she died before she could learn more beyond the basics. That and she was also quite lewd in her speech. I wasn't sure why an 'unfeeling' Jiang Shi was this horny (two, if I brought Deshiko in the equation too), but I was not complaining about that kind of attention. While I called them 'Zombie Gals' they weren't decomposing bodies, but rather reanimated corpses with their souls brought back through unholy means.
And as the festival came to an end, I prepared for the next day as it was going to be a lessons-less one to use to rest for students and teachers. So, when I returned back to the others, I was quite surprised when I learned that Mikogami had recently hired a 'teacher assistant' for the next few years. A surprise but far more when I was told something else that turned into a sudden shocking news for me, but also one that gave me many thoughts to worry and amuse about as the headmaster decided to get bolder about the whole 'human exchange' program of his. Poor Tsukune would have to hold tightly on his pink-haired waifu, because Kyoko Aono had just accepted the job offer, and I knew she was a semi-brocon due to her small but strong infatuation with her cousin.
Ah yes, Japan and its general lack of understanding for the Habsburg Family's plight.
AN
Dang, I'm sad that Ling Ling has no lewd pic about her. Her, San Otonashi and a couple more chicks that deserved some love if the Anime hadn't rushed and missed making them part of the story…
Also, what to do with Kyoko?
