Dimiel introduces; "One in an Infinite, The Only Friend"

A fanfic of OreGairu featuring Hikigaya Hachiman and an OC.

I know I'm late but Merry Xmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Now, let's be honest here...2020 is a shitty year, the worst year to ever exist after WWII which is why we pronounce 2021 as 2020 won. That's something we all can agree on. So what's better to start off the new year with a fanfic? Specifically, a remake of my "The Only Friend" fanfic to which I kind of dislike a bit.

There was a vision of what I wanted to write in that OC's character but the way I executed is nonsensical, at least to me. Most people wanted me to continue it but honestly, I rather don't. I rather rewrite the whole story and actually fit my vision of what I really want and its utmost potential, the mind I had now isn't the same as what I had in the past.

So here you go, a complete overhaul of the story.

Here's to a good year.

Prelude:

"One in a Million"

"Orimoto-san, I like you! Please go out with me!"

Today had not been a good day for a poor soul that is Hikigaya Hachiman. He made a mistake, a huge mistake at that. If an intellect were to see this and simplify the term, it would be "he fucked up big time" or "he got himself a social suicide hand grenade and decided to test if it works or not by pulling the safety pin and wait". To be honest, Hachiman thought the last analogy didn't make sense but he didn't care.

What happened earlier, now that he thought of it, was a foolish move on his part. Of course she didn't like him, why would she? He was just that lonely, creepy boy whom nobody interacts with or like. She was merely being nice like she does with everyone which is why she was popular in the first place. She was just that, a nice girl-nice to a fault. She was not to blame for his behavior, no. It was himself that caused all of this, his distorted perception of their interactions. His flowery vision, his over imagination, his loneliness...

At this point, Hachiman was so frustrated with himself he unconsciously bit his lower lips to the point it bled a bit.

Yes, he was that upset with himself.

How could he had not realized all of this when it was shown to him for more than years now?

This was the result of his ignorance and his naivety.

Quickly realizing the pain and the self-harm he caused to himself, he quickly wipe his lips with his sleeves. This pain is nothing compare to the pain he got earlier from his classmate nice girl Orimoto Kaori. All he can do now is brace himself for the next day, will it be the same or will it be different? Will she tell her friends about his confession and have all them spread the rumors or not? Will people make fun of him if they knew it?

Well, whatever it is, it couldn't get any wor-

"Oi." Suddenly, out of nowhere, his shoulder was grabbed and he was immediately pinned onto the shoe lockers with a force of aggression.

The sound of his back crashing against the lockers reverberated through the empty hallways. His heartbeat increased nearly in an instant due to him being put in an unfamiliar situation Sure, he did get bullied but never once has it gone physical. All of it were just verbal so this was new. So new in fact he doesn't know what to do now that he has his back against a wall.

"You...you confessed to Kaori-chan, didn't you?"

What?

"H-Huh?"

Hachiman had his eyes widened and at the same time, he was confused. How did they know? That embarrassing confession just ended a few minutes ago! There's no way rumors spread that fast especially at this period of time where everyone has already return home or attend clubs! Were they eavesdropping? Could they be...a fan club? Or worse, stalkers?

He didn't get to ponder when the guy grabbed his collars, pull him a bit and pin him onto the lockers. "Don't play around!"

Without hesitation, the man dig his fist onto Hachiman's abdomen causing said person to bend down in response. An unknown feeling surfaced, it was very foreign but it wasn't anything he had felt before. It wasn't sadness or anger, it was...empty. Like his heart had closed itself, encasing in a tough bedrock. But more than that, he felt pain on his abdomen and that made him scared. He didn't want anymore pain.

"You piece of shit, who the hell did you think you are huh!?" Hachiman coughs as air was missing in his body, he was gasping a bit. "What makes you think you can be near Kaori-chan!? Even confessing...how dare you!?"

Hachiman didn't respond, he merely stayed there lying while holding his belly in pain. Yet all he can think now is that he wanted to go home and that this all was a very bad dream. But reality aren't so kind to him.

"Tch! Bring him and follow me." He told to his lackeys and they quickly brought Hachiman to his feet, dragging the unwilling person to the back of the school for more beating.

Once they arrive, they threw him off to the ground and the leader stepped up, cracking his knuckles with a face that he really looks down on his victim as he approaches Hachiman. Still in pain after the first hit, Hachiman skids back, concluding on what they were about to do to him is a really bad news. Hachiman stares at the man, his good looks and his above-average build made his eyes widen further. Hachiman knew who this was, he was a basketball player the girls always talk about.

This guy...he likes Orimoto?

"I'll make sure you don't do stuff like that." His lackeys followed after and in defense, Hachiman curled himself up into a ball and closed his eyes.

They began to repeatedly kick and stomp him, hard. There were points where his defense had faltered a bit and one of them kicked his abdomen which caused a greater pain because he took a hard hit earlier on that area. A feet reaches to his face and hit square on his nose, causing his nose to bleed yet he still curls up to defend himself. Dirt and filth began to cover Hachiman, it was as if shame and depression was swallowing him whole.

Perhaps he deserved this.

He was stupid.

He shouldn't have been so full of himself.

No one would like him.

No one.

He is alone.

In this world.

In this dark, cruel and sadistic world.

This beating will be his lesson.

"Oi."

*Ting*

"Ugh!"

Out of nowhere once again, he heard one of the lackeys let out a yelp. But he couldn't open his eyes, he was still in caution because of the beatings. Even if the beating had stopped, the pain doesn't and in natural instinct, he couldn't move.

*Ting*

"Who the-agh!"

*Ting*

"Wha-gahhh!"

What Hachiman noticed first was the sound of a metal baseball bat hitting and by the sound of it, whoever was doing it is going at it hard. Slowly, once he regains his composure, he opens up his eyes only to witness a brutal scene of a child raising his bat and descend it down on the guy's face, completely bashing his nose. The leader backs away in horror, his lips were quivering, his legs were shaking, he was sweating profusely and his irises shrunk in size.

Once the child was finished with the other guy, he stares at the leader with an unnerving glare that even Hachiman can't help but shivers even though it was not sent towards him. His eyes indicates that he was nothing more than a body to pile on over hundred, a body that will fall into his bat. With a small stature, he drags the bloodied metal bat and walked towards the leader slowly.

"S-Stay away! No...no!"

Despite their sizes, the leader were afraid of the child which is unbefitting of him.

The child continues on walking as the leader tripped to his back and like Hachiman earlier, he skids backwards but this time, he was in pure shock and horror. Hachiman could just see how frightened he was.

Once he stood before the leader, the child immediately swings the bat on the leader's leg. "AHHHHHH!"

It swung so hard to Hachiman he could've swore that the leader's leg was fracture or worse, broken. The leader of course fell down and grabbed his leg in pain while shouting as loud as he could but that was quickly silenced when the child stops on his collar bone, holding him on the ground. The leader widens his eyes, tears didn't stop flowing and what was going to happen is not going to be pretty. The child raises his metal bat to the side and the last second, Hachiman quickly closes his eyes.

The leader bawled his eyes out, crying like a little child. "P-Please, don't...I beg of you..."

The metal bat hit the face of the leader so hard his jaw was dislocated. "I'll mess your pretty face so no girls would like you, entitled piece of trash." The child finally spoke in a tone of which had unfathomable amount of anger and wrath in it.

Most of which...doesn't seem to be directed towards the bully in question.

He continue to swing much to Hachiman's horror but every swing gets weaker overtime. The leader's face was busted up with every swing, his nose broke and excretes blood like fountain. He doesn't even look like how he was, he's now just a messy bloody pulp literally. Once he was finished, he threw away the bat and the sound alerted Hachiman.

The next thing Hachiman knew after he closes his eyes, he could only hear groans of the other lackeys while the leader can't be heard, he was unconscious probably traumatized after this.

No, it's more than that.

He may be in a fatal state.

The sound that was made signifies it all, it isn't just any normal injury. Once the metal bat dropping rings in his ears, slowly, he once again opens his eyes and to his shock and fright, the child was before him with blood all over his figure. His figure was blocking the sun making this more intimidating than it should've been. However, now that he got a good look at the child, he was wearing the same school outfit albeit it was worn rather, for the lack of better term, in a more of delinquent manner.

It's like seeing a delinquent but the one who wore the outfit is a child.

"Hey, you okay?" He asked and extended his hands, his pronunciations of himself make him seem much older than he looks like. "Don't worry, I've taken care of those punks." And the way he talks was how a delinquent would talk.

Yet, even with the way he talk and how he looks, there was a hint of kindness in those eyes of his directed specifically towards Hachiman. The way his eyes right now were nothing compare to how it seemed when he did those brutal beatings earlier to the bullies...or what's left of them. However, the kindness in his eyes were not that of Orimoto's, it was different. Something about it feels different than to the superficial niceness of a girl or anyone.

It seems...

"Genuine..." Hachiman said out loud. He immediately realizes this and blushes in embarrassment.

The child raises his eyebrows in confusion, "What? Uh, are you okay?"

'That should be my question...' Hachiman thought.

"Y-Yeah." Hachiman took his hand and his surprisingly strong grip pulled him up easily, "Sorry and..." Hachiman looks around, seeing the bloody mess that will undoubtedly implanted in his mind forever, "...thanks, I think?"

"Sorry for the mess so now, run along." He said in a serious tone but Hachiman quickly notice it was not out of aggressiveness but out of concern, "Go to your home and don't look back." The child turns Hachiman and pushed him, "This mess is mine and mine alone to deal with, go on."

For some reason, Hachiman just followed what he says without any hesitations or complications. He just...walked away and not look back. His feet moved on his own and he went back to his home in a dazed state still with his clothes dirty with shoeprints and dirt. Whatever happened earlier was still in his mind even after he arrived in his home.

"Onii-chan!?"

He could only think.

'What is with that...?'

It has been a few weeks ever since the incident, the day after that had Hachiman summoned into the principal's office and interrogated about it. Since he was the sole witness, he had a few evidences with his injuries and memory. So to say, it went without a hitch and he was dismissed. Whatever happens after Hachiman had no idea, there weren't any news regarding it aside from the rumors where he was a delinquent which rivaled his rumor of confessing to Kaori. As he had expected, he was shunned and shame, most of the people on campus made fun of him.

But he couldn't care less, not after what happened. Even if he does, with a little bit of thinking, his reputation was rock-bottom anyway so there was no use in caring about it anymore.

As he ponders in his seat in silence amongst the murmurs and mocking chuckles of his classmates, those sounds disappeared out of nowhere. To that, Hachiman was confused.

However, before he can assess what happened, a hand made its way and slap playfully to his shoulder. "Hey." A familiar voice, Hachiman turns his head to see the same child or boy whom had saved him from the bullies. "Name's Kirisaka Karasawa. What about yours?" He smiles while he introduces himself, it's like he didn't care how the people around him look at them both.

"Hi...Hikigaya Hachiman." Hachiman introduced to the now named Karasawa.

"Hach-chan, huh?" He said while his eyes went upwards before nodding with a smile, "Hm, hm. Nice to meet you." Hachiman raises his eyebrows at how he casually refers to his first name but nonetheless, decided to play the same game.

"Yeah...same here, Karasawa." Hachiman smiled back.

And so, two outcasts began their friendship...

"One in a Million"

Well, there you have it.

Thanks for reading and if you like what you read, do leave a fav and a follow! It's free and you can always retract your decision. If you want to know where I got the idea of the OC, I had a story planned regarding him and decided to use it here. I think this is like experimental.

With that said, see you guys in the next chapter.

(Also, I just reread this once so if there's any grammatical errors and whatnot, sorry! I'll try my best to correct it!)
