Here we are at Chapter 62. This one takes place at the same time as the last chapter, just focusing on some other characters. I do not own RWBY or Transformers. They belong to their respective owners. Here's chapter 62. Enjoy.
Chapter 62: The Sounds of Conflict
In Team RWBY's room, Ruby and Weiss are checking out the local news on the election while Yang is playing on her scroll and Blake is fixing up her eye shadow.
"...The election is only a few hours away, but as it stands, it seems Robyn Hill will have no problem winning the open council seat..." the news says.
"Well, it certainly seems like that little power play of Jacques backfired on him," Yang notes about the election.
"No way would they help him, so why would he announce it just before the election?" Weiss wonders as she puts away her scroll.
"Well, we won't know until it happens, so there's no use in worrying about it beforehand. So, where are you guys going?" Yang asks.
"Well, I'll be going with Dreadwing to the movies. I just really need something to get my kind off all this ridiculousness," Weiss smiles.
"What about you guys?" Ruby jumps down from the top bunk.
"Team FNKI invited us out dancing. We thought it be a good chance to get our minds off the election. We'll be taking Predaking and Megatron with us," Blake says as she works on her eyeshadow.
"You're taking those two with you? Are you sure that's such a good idea? Considering their, um... temperament," Weiss doesn't like the idea.
"Don't worry. We'll make sure they don't break any bones. Well, hopefully they won't break any bones. We'll handle it," Yang doesn't sound too convincing.
"Okay, well, you guys have fun on that. I'll be going with Ren and Nora down into Mantle," Ruby says as she walks around Weiss.
"I still can't believe you're going to that stupid event," Weiss shakes her head.
"It'll be fine. We're going there as extra security. Besides, if we're there standing side-by-side with Robyn, it might help people see that we're all on the same side," Ruby replies.
"So, you planning on taking Soundwave with you?" Yang smirks.
"No, but that's only because I'm pretty sure he'll just follow me down there anyway," Ruby laughs a bit.
Yang wiggles her eyebrows, "Oh, so, you're going on a little date with the Bird Whisperer, eh? Gonna get some lovin' on?" Yang jokes.
Ruby blushes, "Yang! That's not what we're doing! Besides, you're taking Megatron to a dance club. I'm pretty sure that sounds like a date to me!" she fires back.
Now Yang is blushing, "That's not what it is! I'm just going to teach Megatron how to dance with style and how to relax and have fun for once!"
Blake rolls her eyes, "Well, with that out of the way, I think we'd better get going. We'll see you guys later," Blake takes her leave and exits the room.
"Hey, wait for me!" Yang runs after her.
Weiss sighs, "I swear, Blake and I are the only adults on this team," she mutters as she and Ruby leave.
"Hey, I'm old enough to drive now. That makes me an adult," Ruby retorts.
"Right, and do you have a driver's license?" Weiss raises an eyebrow.
Ruby looks away, "Um... no?"
"My thoughts exactly," Weiss rests her case.
As they walk, they bump into Soundwave and Laserbeak.
"Hello Soundwave, Laserbeak. Well, I'll just take my leave and look for Dreadwing," Weiss leaves them alone.
"Hey Soundwave, Laserbeak," Ruby greets them, but they simply nod in response. "I'm heading down to Mantle with Ren and Nora. We're heading to that victory party that Robyn Hill is hosting," Ruby explains, and Soundwave nods again. "You're coming with me, right," she already knows the answer: another nod. Ruby giggles, "You know Soundwave, you're starting to become predictable. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Still, I'm glad you're coming with me. Come on, we wouldn't want to keep the others waiting," Ruby walks ahead, and Soundwave and Laserbeak follow. "Well... I guess this is... somewhat like a date," Ruby blushes again.
Meanwhile, Weiss manages to find Dreadwing, "Ah, I've been looking for you, Dreadwing,"
"Do you have need of me, Milady?" Dreadwing bows slightly to her.
"In a way. You're coming with me. I'm heading to the movies in the city. I need something to take my mind off the election, and with the time off General Ironwood gave us, I plan on using it wisely," Weiss starts getting bashful. "Would you be... willing to accompany me, Dreadwing?"
"I am willing to accompany you anywhere you go, Lady Weiss," Dreadwing nods.
Weiss smiles, "Great, then let's get going. The sooner we get there and relax, the better,"
With that, they head off to the landing platforms. Everyone end up on different airships since they are all heading to different locations. While Ruby and her group take an airship down into Mantle, the rest head off to different parts of Atlas. However, Weiss is slightly annoyed by her trip... mostly because of the extra company.
"And what are you two doing here?" Weiss stares at Jaune and Oscar.
"Oh, we were heading to the movies. Since Ren and Nora are heading off with Ruby, and I'm sure Soundwave and Laserbeak are going with them, I'd thought I'd take Oscar with me to hang out. We've never been to the movies in Atlas before, and they've always made good movies here, so I thought, why not," Jaune explains.
"Is... that bad?" Oscar asks tentatively.
Weiss sighs, "No, it's not bad exactly. Your time off is your time off... Just make sure that whatever movie you choose, it is a completely different one than the one Dreadwing and I will be seeing,"
"Oh, that's okay. I'm sure they'll have plenty of options to choose from. We won't get in the way of your date," Jaune smiles, but his words only make Weiss' heart skip a beat.
"D-D-D-D-D-DATE?! No, it's not a date. We're just going to see a movie... with popcorn, and we'll be... sitting next to each other...Argh, why did Jaune have to say it like that?" Weiss blushes madly and begins freaking out a little bit.
"Milady, are you alright?" Dreadwing shows his concern.
"I'm fine!" Weiss yells.
Soon enough, everyone reaches their destinations and go their separate ways. It doesn't take long for Weiss' group to find the movie theater. There are several movie posters out to show what's currently playing. Jaune and Oscar end up choosing a comedy movie to see. Something light-hearted to get their minds off the serious stuff going on lately. Meanwhile, Weiss and Dreadwing decide for a drama movie instead. Nothing too crazy, except for the fact that it makes Weiss blush more as this feels more and more like a date.
…
Meanwhile, Ruby's group have just reached Mantle. After leaving the airship, the group of five (if you count Laserbeak) make their way to Robyn's victory party being held at a local warehouse.
"I wonder if a victory party seems a bit premature. Considering the election isn't over yet," Ren notes.
"Oh, let them have one sure thing," Nora tries to remain optimistic.
"Nora's right. It may be the last sure thing they have before Amnity tower goes up and everyone finds out about... what we're fighting," Ruby says.
"... Prepare for war..." Soundwave's visor goes off.
"Yes, if we are able to get humanity united against Salem, then she won't be able to hide anymore, which may mean that she'll start throwing out her Grimm in larger numbers. It would become a war," Laserbeak concurs.
"We spent a lot of time worrying about Ironwood's reaction to the truth about Salem and Ozpin. But what about what we're going to do once we get past that part?" Ren asks.
"Salem is immortal. Jinn showed us in her vision," Nora notes.
"She said that Ozpin can't destroy her when he asked her his question. He asked her how can 'he' destroy Salem, and she said that 'he' couldn't," Ruby clarifies.
"Then... maybe somebody else can," Nora puts the thought in Ruby's head.
"...Silver Eyes... Petrified Grimm..." Soundwave's visor goes off again.
"I... I don't know," Ruby replies with some doubt.
"We should be training right now," Ren worsens the mood.
"We've trained enough! Take some time to-," Nora begins.
"We don't have time!" Ren stops her, much to her anger.
Ruby looks worried and glances at Soundwave. Taking that as his cue to try something, Soundwave sends out one of his tentacles to slap Ren across the back of his head.
"Ow! What was that for, Soundwave?!" Ren rubs his head as he looks back at him.
"Gee, who knows," Nora waves it off with a look of annoyance as she moves on.
"...Lie Ren...Do you have any notion of your blunder!..." Soundwave uses one line from Megatron, back when he spoke to Airachnid.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Ren asks, but Soundwave simply points at Nora's back as she gets ahead of them. "...Nora?"
"Ren, leave the security detail to me and Soundwave and Laserbeak. Penny and Marrow will be there too. You go talk with Nora. You guys have some air to clear up," Ruby suggests.
Not exactly up to the idea, Ren decides to do so after being outvoted. The gang reach the warehouse, and find the place full of energy and packed with Robyn's supporters. A stage at the front, speakers, and large screens showing Robyn ahead of Jacques with a 57%-43% lead. Ren finds Nora standing off on the sidelines, arms crossed and not joining in on the fun. He sighs before going off to speak with his partner. Ruby and Soundwave decide to give them their space before Penny meets up with them.
"Great! I'm so glad you guys made it!" Penny hugs her friend, much to her dismay, given her strength.
Ruby is freed from the bear hug, "Ugh... It's good to see you two Penny. I take it Marrow is in the back?"
"Yep, he's waiting for us. Come on," Penny then looks over at Ren and Nora as they start to talk. "Are they okay?"
"They're fine, Penny... I think. Best to just leave them be for now. We should get moving," Ruby replies.
"Okay, come on. It's this way," Penny motions for them to follow her.
…
Meanwhile, back in Atlas, Weiss and Dreadwing are enjoying their movie. Well, Weiss is enjoying it, but Dreadwing is having a hard time following (hard to tell if it's a guy thing or a cybertronian thing).
"...I can't believe you. This whole time, you've been lying to me. I took care of you. I cared for you because I loved you..." the male actor on the movie cries.
"I know, but please, it just happened. I didn't know it would end up like this. Please, you know me. I'm sick. I need help," the female actress replies.
"...You are sick... You're on your own. The next time you see me, it'll be through my lawyer..." the male leaves the room, leaving the female crying.
The scene changes to the actor speaking with another actress, who appears to be in a hospital bed as a patient.
"...I should've listened to you in the first place. I honestly thought she loved me, but she was just using me. I was so stupid..."
"There may have been some part of her that loved you, but that wasn't enough to make up for everything else," the new actress replies.
"But, if I had seen it before hand, then you... you wouldn't be in this bed right now..." the male is close to tears.
"Hey, it's okay. I never blamed you. Just be more careful of women like that from now on okay,"
In the audience, Weiss is close to tears while Dreadwing watches stoically. Well, it's better than falling asleep in the middle of the movie, like a few of the other male halves of couples in the theater are doing, much to the annoyance of their dates. The movie continues on for a few more minutes before it ends and the end credits start coming up.
"At least he finally figured out he was being used before it became too late," Dreadwing notes.
"Dreadwing, that's not the point of the movie. The point was that while love is blind, true love will light the way," Weiss berates him.
"My apologies, Milady. There was never anything like this back home, so I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with 'theater decorum'," Dreadwing replies.
Weiss sighs, "That's not what I meant either. And there really isn't something such as 'theater decorum'. Well, not in this capacity anyway. I mean, the actor's character learned the dangers of love, but also what makes it special, and thus, he found the one he was meant to be with. Or something like that,"
Dreadwing simply hums in thought on her words. He subconsciously takes Weiss' hand in his own surprising her.
"I still do not quite understand, but one thing I do know is that there is no place I'd rather be than by your side, Milady," Dreadwing looks her right in the eye.
Weiss blushes at his little confession, and for a moment, she glances away, unsure of what to do. But then, she gets the courage to kiss him on the cheek as a silent thank you, making him blush.
…
Back at the warehouse, Ruby with Soundwave and Laserbeak follow Penny and meet up with Marrow in the back behind the stage. Of course, it seems that he's already busy playing nice with May of the happy huntresses. Well... sort of.
"And why are you here?" May glares at him.
"Security, mam. The General doesn't want anything happening during tonight's election. He wants to keep the peace," Marrow explains in a matter-of-fact manner.
"Oh, what a coincidence. That's why we're here. So feel free to take a hike," May makes her displeasure with him here known.
"I don't take orders from you, mam," Marrow retorts.
"Well, then how about we make you leave another way," Joana joins up with May.
"Um, guys, let's all just calm down. We're all on the same side here," Ruby steps in before things get messy.
"Stay out of this, ki-," Joana stops when she sees Soundwave next to Ruby engaging his face mask; a silent warning to back off.
Not wanting to receive another one of Soundwave's vocal lessons, Joana and May simply narrow their eyes, but make no moves.
"The pipsqueak has a point, sort of," they look back to see Robyn walking up to them. "This isn't the place for a fight. This is a place for celebration. More importantly, if we're going to make progress for everyone, then we're all going to have to learn how to work together. All of us,"
Seeing that the situation has deescalated, Soundwave retreats his facemask, returning it to his normal visor form.
"Right, and we're willing to work with you, provided that you work within the code of law, correct?" Marrow crosses his arms.
"I'm a law-abiding citizen. I just want to do whatever I can for Mantle," Robyn replies with a smile.
"Right, and you're planning on doing that legally, correct?" Marrows shoots back.
Robyn keeps smiling, "Everything I do is legal,"
Seeing that he's not gonna get anywhere with Robyn, Marrow rolls his eyes and walks off.
Penny remains blissfully ignorant, "Isn't it fun seeing everyone getting along?"
Ruby laughs nervously, "Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh, yeah... right,"
Penny heads off to her part of the warehouse, while Ruby and Soundwave move to the crowd.
"Hey, bird boy," Robyn calls out and Ruby and Soundwave and Laserbeak look back at her. "You know, we might be willing to trust you a little bit more if you would show us your face. And talk a little more,"
Soundwave and Laserbeak just stare at her before moving on, but Ruby holds back a moment.
"Soundwave wears that mask for a reason. He's not a bad person. A little weird, but he prefers to let his actions speak louder than his words," Ruby explains before moving on to join Soundwave.
With their conversation over, Robyn sighs before heading onto the stage when Fiona calls her out.
"...I've never been much for public speaking. Probably wasn't my best idea ever to go into politics. Thank you so much, everyone. For choosing me. You said you all believe in me. But it is I who believes in in all of you. You've proven to me that as individuals, we are strong. But together, we are unstoppable. So, no matter what happens tonight, win or lose, we are going to continue to fight for our city. Because it is this city that brings us together!" Robyn says, causing the whole crowd to erupt into cheers for her.
Robyn walks off the stage, but as she looks at the polls, she becomes more worried as it shows her at 54%, but Jacques at 46%. They're getting closer together as the seconds wind down. Back in the crowd, Soundwave looks around at all the people cheering for Robyn to win. He glances back, seeing Nora pull Ren in for a deep kiss, which he returns and they embrace one another. Seeing this, Soundwave glances at Ruby, a few thoughts running through his head, though his expression remains the same. Not a fan of tight crowds like this, Laserbeak flies up into the rafters, perched on one support beam up top.
"The polls are about to close. Everyone, together!" one of the huntresses announces.
The people count down the seconds. Up top, Laserbeak watches the crowd before he spots someone with a brown hood up. He gets a little suspicious, but red flags pop up when he notices a prosthetic scorpion tail coming out from his back. He sends the images to Soundwave, and Soundwave looks around to find the culprit smiling... But, it's already too late. He turns to Robyn, just as the lights go out before the countdown finishes.
People start freaking out as Tyrian starts killing every civilian around him. Soundwave can't get to him with all the people freaking out.
"Soundwave, what's going on?" Ruby spots his visor.
"...Tyrian..." his visor replies as he looks around.
"Tyrian's here?!" Ruby yells.
Penny uses her night vision and spots Tyrian, "Put down your weapons and surrender!" she orders him.
However, Tyrian disappears from view due to people running around in a panic and gets onto the stage. He attacks Fiona and breaks through her aura to deal a contact blow to her stomach before jumping away to land behind Robyn. Penny sees this and flies in to tackle Robyn away, but then Tyrian disappears. The lights come on again, showing Robyn on the ground on stage with her weapon out, and Penny standing with her swords out. However, things go from back to worse when the screen not Robyn Hill as the winner, but Jacques Schnee as the winner of the election.
"And the winner is... Jacques Schnee!" the announcements come on.
"Thank you everyone. This is all because of you. This marks a bright new day for Atlas. We did it. We won," Jacques broadcasts from his manor.
Ruby goes to help Fiona while Soundwave has his blades out and Laserbeak flies above him, seeing the situation devolving.
"It's Ironwood's robot!" one civilian yells, pointing at Penny.
"Penny," Robyn mutters, thinking she's the attacker.
Penny retracts her swords in fear, "I... I didn't," she says.
"What happened?!" Nora yells as she and Ren join them.
"It was Tyrian. He's here!" Ruby tells them.
They look back as the rest of Robyn's huntresses and the civilians all charge the stage.
"STAY!" Marrow uses his semblance to freeze them all in place. "Get Penny out the back! Now!" he tells them. Ren and Nora escort a shocked Penny to the back to escape. Robyn gets up and goes to check on her friend while pushing Ruby away. "I'm sorry. Is she-," Marrow goes to ask, but a shot from Joanna stops him. Ruby moves to pull Marrow back towards the back exit. "This wasn't us. I swear!" Marrow says before they leave the warehouse.
Outside in an alley, they all regroup. However, Penny is still stunned by what happened and how everyone perceived her.
"Penny, we need to get you to Atlas. Backup is on the way. Penny?" Marrow says, but Penny doesn't answer before she flies off, just as monstrous roars erupt in the distance.
"Grimm," Ruby says.
Marrow sighs as he takes out his rifle, "We've got a long night ahead of us," he says and they all run forth to protect Mantle as Manticore Grimm fly over the city and into the streets.
"...And as the newest member of the council, I pledge to serve each and every citizen of Mantle and Atlas..." Jacques announces as Grimm fly in.
And that's the chapter. The election goes badly for everyone except for Jacques, and now Ruby and her friends know that Tyrian is in Atlas. With Mantle turning more and more against them, can Megatron and his friends find a way to turn things back around before it's too late? Until then, please Read and Review.
