Disclaimer: See Chapter One.
Petunia sat at the kitchen table grateful for the quiet morning. She picked up her hot cup of coffee carefully took a sip. She turned her head and looked at the picture of her, Dudley and Lily. She smiled at the picture. Lily was so happy when she held Dudley for the first time. They had found common ground and Vernon learned to accept that James and Lily were magical and even allowed them to place wards around their house for protection. James had told them about horrors of the wizarding world and he wanted the family safe. Vernon had agreed only to protect his wife and child. He truly like James he was good man.
Petunia got up from the table and walked to the front door and opened it to find a baby on front step. She quickly forgot about the newspaper. "Oh Merlin Harry!" cried the mother and quickly grabbed the basket and went into the living room.
Petunia quickly unwrapped the baby and checked him over carefully. She saw a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. She checked the gash over held him close to comfort the infant. Vernon came downstairs with Dudley in his arms and his eyes widen when he saw his nephew. He sat down next to his wife and picked up the fallen letter from the floor and opened it to read to his wife.
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley,
It saddens me to inform you that Lily and James were killed last night. Since you are Harry's only remaining family that he must be in your care.
Sad regards,
Albus Dumbledore
"I found him on the doorstep Vernon. Who leaves a baby on the doorstep in November! He could have knocked or something!" cried Petunia. "James and Lily are gone!" She buried her face into Harry and cried.
Vernon got up from the couch when there was a tap on the window. He let the owl inside and shut the window. He took the letter from the bird and sat back down on the couch. He opened the letter and his eyes widen in shock of who it was from. He swallowed the lump that was in his throat and read it to his wife.
Dearest Pet,
If you receive this letter James and I are dead. We put our trust in the person while we were in hiding. I'm sorry to cause you so much grief at this time. If I know one thing Harry will be left for you and Vernon to care for. I know you will love him and care for him as your own. I am so blessed that we were able to mend our relationship and we love you all.
Pet, I love you so much and thank you for accepting us back into your life. I am so blessed to have such a loving family. I ask for you to be there for my baby since I will not be able to do so. Accept his magic and love him as I would Dudley if you were in my place.
Harry will have outlashes of magic and will do things he may not understand. Please don't punish him for accidental magic. He will learn to control it within time. He is such a loving baby. Thank you for doing this Petunia and Vernon I am so grateful for you all. I love you.
Your loving sister,
Lily
Vernon sat the letter down on the table nearby and left with Dudley to fix two bottles. He returned with two bottles and handed one to Petunia. She tearfully took the bottle and feed Harry as he wrapped his hands around it and sucked it down quickly.
"Don't worry Pet. I know James had everything setup to take care of Harry. We'll be ok. We'll have the second bedroom set up for Harry. I will get everything that he needs. I think we need to take Harry to the doctor and get him check over to make sure everything is ok. That cut looks pretty bad."
Petunia dried her face and gave her husband a strong nodded. "Right. I'll cry later. But now right the boys need us. Can you call work and let them know that there was a…death in the family?"
Vernon nodded his head got up from the couch and called work and informed that there were two deaths in the family and that he would be out for the week. He returned to the couch and wrapped his arm around his wife as he held his only child close. He gently took Harry's hand and kissed it gently.
"Everything will be ok Harry." Vernon told the baby.
HP
Petunia jumped out of the bed when she heard screams and cries from Harry's room. She ran down the hall and found Harry kicking and screaming in his sleep. She walked over to the crib and gently picked him up and sat down in the rocker.
"Shh, now sweetheart." Petunia cooed trying to quite the distressed baby.
"Mummy!" cried Harry.
Petunia held Harry closed and let her on tears flow down her cheeks. She quietly sang him the song she knew Lily sang to Harry. She realized that her singing voice was not as sweet as her sisters but it quieted down the crying baby. She saw Lily's owl sitting on the perch. She sighed heavily. She knew she would have to contact someone to help. She was out of her comfort zone when it came to a magical baby. Petunia got up and laid Harry back down in his crib.
She made her way downstairs. It was nearly five o'clock in the morning. She made the coffee and sat down at the table and waited for the coffee to make. Petunia got up and fixed herself a cup of coffee and sat back down at the table and let the warm liquid wake up her senses.
Vernon entered the kitchen and fixed himself a cup of coffee and joined his wife at the table. "Is Harry ok Pet?"
"I don't know what to do Vernon. I believe I need to contact Professor McGonagall. She was close to Lily. She might know what to do to help Harry. I have Lily's owl Orin. I will send her a letter. It's been nearly eight months and his nightmares are not getting any better. I know the doctor gave him a clean bill of health, but this is just so hard on him."
Petunia got up from the table when she heard the baby monitor sound nearly forty-five minutes later. She left her cup and walked out of the kitchen. She returned with Dudley and Harry in her arms. She put the boys in their high chairs and sat a half of a sippy of milk in front of each boy before returning to her seat to finish her coffee.
Vernon got up after finishing his coffee and fixed the boys some eggs for breakfast. He scrambled them up into small pieces for the boys. He sat them down on the table to cool off before giving it to them to eat. He grabbed a pen and piece of paper to write the letter to Professor McGonagall.
"Thank you dear." Petunia said when the eggs levitated over to the boys. She laughed at Harry who was stuffing his face with eggs. "Thank you, Harry."
Dudley looked at his cousin with wide eyes before digging into his eggs happily. Petunia sat and composed the letter to the witch that would hopefully help her nephew.
Minerva sat at her kitchen table reading copy of the Daily Prophet. She couldn't believe that it had been eight months since James and Lily had been dead. She knew that Harry's birthday would be at the end of the month. She looked over at the picture that sat on counter. It was a picture of her and Lily. She had just earned her master in transfiguration. The redhead smiled brightly at the flashing camera. Minerva was snapped out of her memory when she heard a tap on the kitchen window. She pulled out her wand and flicked it opening the window.
"Orin?" said Minerva as the golden owl landed on the back of the chair. "What do we have here?" She asked the owl and removed the letter. She unfolded it and quietly read it to herself.
Professor McGonagall,
I'm Petunia Dursley we have been caring for my nephew Harry since Lily and James's untimely death. I do not know if Lily told you but we were able to mend our differences sometime before her death and James and her were over at the house quite often. But that is not the reason behind this letter.
I am at wits end at what must be done to help Harry. He wakes up most nights screaming in fear. I cannot take him to a doctor due to his magical abilities. I fear he will be taken to some lab and be tested on. Please come and visit us and discuss a couple of things with us so we may be able to help our sweet nephew.
Thank you,
Petunia Dursley
Minerva sat the letter down and got up from the table to get ready for the day. She climbed the stairs to her room and dug through her closet for a muggle pair of clothing. She knew it wouldn't be good for her to roam the muggle streets in wizard's robes on. She pulled on knee length skirt and button-down white top and braided her long brown streaked with gray and tied it in place. She slightly olive toned skin, brown eyes, thin mouth and sliming womanly figure. She slipped her wand up her sleeve into her arm holder and made her way back down stairs to write Petunia back.
Minerva sent the letter with Orin and went to the library to do some research to help Harry. She hoped she could find something to help the poor wee child.
"No, Dudley, time out for you son." Petunia said taking the toy and giving it back to Harry. "Harry was playing with it you need to share." She picked up her son and sat him in the time out corner for one minute. "Now, who could that be." She walked to the door and opened it revealing Minerva.
"Mrs. Dursley, I'm Minerva McGonagall. Am I disturbing you?"
"Oh, no please come inside. I'm sorry about the mess. Things have been crazy with two boys. I'm lucky to get the clothes washed and dinner cooked."
Minerva entered the house and saw that clothes were over the living room along with toys. She looked at Petunia once she closed the door. Petunia walked over and picked up Dudley and told him to play nicely with Harry.
"Maybe I can help." Minerva said looking at the tired woman. "Do you mind?" She asked pulling out her wand.
Petunia looked at the wand and shook her head not caring if the house was cleaned by magic or not. Minerva waved her wand and the clothes where folded and the toys were straightened up and back up in the toy box. Harry giggled at the floating toys and grabbed at a block.
"Oh, thank you so much!" said Petunia with a smiled and sat down on the couch with heavy sigh of relief. "Please have a seat. I would fix us a cup of tea but I have been going strong since five this morning."
Minerva waved her wand and kettle floated into the room along with two cups it landed neatly on the table. She tapped the kettle and it whistle. Minerva poured two cups of tea and she handed Petunia a cup.
"I wish I could have been able to do magic. But I know that I wasn't born with the gifts like Lily. It took me a long time to realize that. I hate it took me so long to apologize to her."
"Charles!" called Minerva and a house elf appeared in the room.
Charles had bold head, big tennis ball like green eyes, slightly pointed nose. He was short with big feet was slightly green and gray color body. He wore black robes with the Potter crest over his heart.
"Professor called for Charles." The house elf said with a slight bow. He saw Harry. "Master Harry, I have been so worried about you." He said picking up the toddler in arms looking him over. "Master Harry you have a scar. Let me see what I can I do make you better."
Petunia sat on the couch with her mouth open. She had never seen a creature like him in her life. Minerva explained that Charles was the Potter's head house elf. He was in charge of the house hold until Harry came of age.
"Professor, I have found something with Master Harry's scar." Charles said walking over to the women.
"What's wrong with the wee one Charles?" asked Minerva sitting down her cup and holding out her arms to the house elf.
Charles handed Harry over to the transfiguration professor, and she sat him on her lap and looked at the scar. Charles informed the ladies that the scar held dark magic. Minerva's brow frowned and Petunia gasped at the thought of dark magic being in her nephew.
"Professor, what do you suggest we do?" asked Petunia in concern.
Minerva took a deep breath and told the woman that Lily had saved Harry's life by sacrificing herself for her son, and how the dark wizard had vanished after the killing rebounded on him.
Petunia covered her mouth in shock. She slowly lowered her hands. "Are you telling me that Harry saw his own mother's death?" Minerva nodded her head sadly.
"I believe it would be wise to take Harry to Gringotts's Bank and let the goblins look at Harry's scar. It's not wise to leave such magic attached to the wee one." Petunia nodded her head in agreement. "May I suggest that Charles help you out around here during the day while Mr. Dursley is at work so you're not so exhausted."
Petunia only nodded her head grateful for whatever help she could get. She was exhausted. Minerva rose from her seat. She instructed Charles to take Harry to Gringotts's Bank while she took Petunia and Dudley along.
"You'll feel a little sick to your stomach, but I am going to apparate us to steps of the bank." The witch told Petunia. She nodded her head and they were gone with a faint pop.
Petunia appeared at the front of two large golden doors. Dudley threw up all over the front of his mommy's shirt, and Minerva pulled out her wand and waved it over the vomit and it vanished from Petunia's shirt leaving crisp and clean. Petunia smiled and nodded her head. Minerva turned and saw Charles holding laughing Harry as he made bubbles appear. She smiled at the scene.
"Shall we go in and get Harry looked over by the goblin healer?" asked Minerva. "Now, goblins are very unique creatures. Just greet them a nod and you'll be just fine. Let us hurry it's not wise to linger," and she opened the door and they entered the bank.
Petunia's eyes widen at the massive size of the bank and the strange creatures that sat behind the counters. Minerva walked up to the counter with Charles, who was still carrying Harry.
"Master Sharpclaw," said Minerva with nod. She grabbed a quill and piece of parchment and quill wrote a note and slid it over to the creature.
Harry Potter needs to see the healer concerning dark magic in his scar. Please be discreet about this.
"Follow me quickly." He said getting down off the stool and they followed the goblin who led to a private room. "Be right back with our curse breaker and healer. You did the right thing by bringing him here so soon," and he quickly left and he returned ten minutes later with the curse breaker and healer in tow.
"Professor McGonagall it's good to see you again." Billy Weasely said. He had long flaming red hair, fare freckled skin, brown eyes, and was tall and thin. "Who are you ma'am?"
"I am Petunia Dursley. I'm Harry's aunt." She said shaking the man's hand.
"I'm healer Truthclaw I will run a scan on Mr. Potter. You could please lay him down on the bed." She said motioning to the bed.
Charles laid Harry down on the bed and stepped back. He stood next to Petunia. They all watched carefully.
Truthclaw put Harry in a deep slumber and ran her sharp claw over the sleep baby and chart popped out of thin air and read over the scan. She noted that his shots were up to date and that he had good weight. She tapped her claw on the scar and gasped at what showed up.
"Bill, we have a horcrux here." She told the curse breaker.
Bill's eyes widen in shock. "Seriously!" He grabbed the floating chart and scanned it and his eyes grew wide. "Shit. This is not good at all. How can we kill it without killing Harry?"
Truthclaw thought for a moment and smiled showing her sharp teeth. "I have an idea. We can use a drop of basilisk venom let the dark magic die and give him bezoar to remove the poison."
"That could work very well." said Bill with smile.
"Poison! You are not poisoning my nephew!" screeched Petunia.
"Mrs. Dursley a horcrux is one of one of darkest of evils in this world. It is not wise to leave it in Harry. We must do this if he wants to have most normal life as possible, do we have permission to do this?" asked Bill.
Petunia looked at Minerva with tears in eyes as she held Dudley close. She looked at Bill and nodded her head. "Will this stop his nightmares too?"
"It's a very good possibility." Truthclaw told her.
"Then do it." said Petunia.
Bill grabbed his black bag and pulled out a bottle of venom and uncorked it and walked over to the still sleeping baby. He dropped the liquid over the scar while Truthclaw grabbed the bezoar. They watched as black mist came from Harry's scar. It took the shape of Voldemort before it vanished. Truthclaw quickly put the bezoar in Harry's jaw soaking up the poison. She removed the stone and woke up Harry from his sleep.
Harry opened his eyes rubbed the sleep from his green eyes. Petunia walked over kissed Harry on the forehead and noticed that cut had healed only leaving a faint lightning bolt scar. Truthclaw ran another scan and looked at the results and nodded her head in approval.
"He's safe to move. But I would like to see young Mr. Potter on regular bases. He will need his six-year-old shots to help with dragon pox and such things. If you need anything please send me please send me an owl. I will make a house call just for Mr. Potter. I will personally see to his medical care."
"Oh, thank you so much Healer Truthclaw. I really appreciate that." said Petunia.
"Is there anything else that you may need Professor?" asked Bill.
"No thank you. I want to thank you for all that you've done." Minerva said. "Shall we head back to your home. I noticed that the wards that James and Lily I had placed are starting to weaken since their passing. I would like to place them back up."
"Thank you. I believe it's time for these boys' naps. I would like a cup of tea." Petunia told her and they left the bank with lighter hearts knowing that Harry would be just fine.
Please tell me what you think about the new chapter. I hope you like the Dursleys' in a new light for the story.
