Bakugo Expelled
Chapter one: The end that leads to a beginning
The day that Katsuki Bakugo brutally beat up a fellow student in the cafeteria of U.A. High School in full view of at least one hundred other students was also the day that he was expelled from the top hero high school that Japan had to offer.
The explosive teen would never be able to get the events of that day out of his head; how he was sitting on a bench outside of Principal Nezu's office next to Shoto Todoroki, while Bakugo's mother Mitsuki was taking care of a few bits of paperwork that came with her son being kicked out of U.A. Todoroki's father, the current number one pro hero Endeavor, was able to use some pull in order to avoid his son being kicked out, even though Todoroki was not only just as guilty as Bakugo, but had actually offered to Bakugo to help him beat up the student that he assaulted.
There was also the reason why the ashy-haired teen and the Son of Endeavor were inspired to do what they did to the student that they assaulted, a student who just so happened to be one of their fellow classmates in U.A.'s class 1-A, a reason that Endeavor, once he got it from Shoto, used to convince Japan's top hero high school to not kick his son (i.e. masterpiece, though Endeavor had long since ceased to think along those lines) out. As for Bakugo, however, even though he had the exact same excuse as his half-and-half classmate, he was still expelled nonetheless, with his temperament and various past instances of troublesome behavior serving as fuel for the fire that did not help him at all.
Naturally, Mitsuki let her son have it, yelling at him that his expulsion from U.A. was the last thing that she needed at the moment while she was going through the process of divorcing from his father Masaru. Indeed, Bakugo's parents were actually getting divorced, and it was agreed that Bakugo would be staying with his mother, as she would be getting the house in the divorce settlement, and said house was located close to U.A., although Bakugo's expulsion ended up making this a moot point. Masaru, though nowhere near as explosive as his soon-to-be ex-wife, agreed with her that Bakugo being kicked out of U.A. was very disappointing.
However, unlike Mitsuki, Masaru calmed down quicker, especially when Bakugo told his parents the reason why he and Todoroki beat up their one classmate in the middle of the cafeteria over at U.A. The brown-haired man practically lost all disappointment he had in his son over said son's expulsion upon hearing the reason, but Mitsuki was nowhere near as forgiving. As she went on about how Bakugo being expelled from U.A. would kill his chances of ever making a good name for himself, she and her soon-to-be ex-husband got a call. Mitsuki was the quicker to answer, and what the call was about ended up surprising her.
It was a call from another of Japan's hero high schools, Vulcan High.
…
"Let me cut to the chase," Kagura Hojo, the principal of Vulcan High, said as she sat in her office while meeting with the Bakugo family. The lady principal looked more or less like a blonde Inko Midoriya, albeit with her hair styled differently, and the aura she gave off wasn't as warm and friendly as the plump green-haired woman. Rather, Kagura gave off an air of being cold and calculating, of being willing to use guile and subterfuge to achieve her ends.
The principal of Vulcan leaned back in her chair as she sat behind her desk. "When the top dog that is U.A. expels a student, the other hero schools across Japan tends to pick up on it, and those other schools end up doing one of two things. One, they blacklist the student expelled from U.A. out of the assumption that said student is not worth teaching period because U.A. said so, or two, they scoop up that expelled student based on the idea that U.A.'s trash can be their treasure." The Bakugos stared at Kagura with wide-eyed anticipation.
Seeing the looks on their faces, plump blonde woman gave the Bakugos a wry smile. "Vulcan High is the latter. Mr. and Mrs. Bakguo, I would be very much interested in having your son Katsuki enroll here into Vulcan High. If you want to send him here, that is."
The moment that Kagura's offer to accept Bakugo as a student at her hero high school, both Masaru and Mitsuki let out relieved sighs, both of them so happy and relieved that their son was being given another chance that they both temporarily forgot that they were in the middle of getting a divorce. As for Bakugo himself, he was beyond surprised; from what he had heard on the matter, Vulcan was the self-proclaimed greatest rival of U.A., the school that expelled him.
The explosive teen wanted to see where this new path would lead him.
The following afternoon, Bakugo was at a fast food place, grabbing a quick bite to eat. He had officially been enrolled into Vulcan High, and would be starting his first day at his new hero high school the next day. As such, he had some free time to kill. That free time he was killing saw him meeting with his group of friends from U.A., who are known collectively by some as the 'Baku-squad'. Despite the fact that their (unofficial) leader was expelled from U.A., none of the teens held any disappointment in Bakugo.
On the contrary, all of them saw Bakugo's expulsion as unjustified. "Man, I can't believe that you were kicked out of U.A.!" Mina Ashido complained as she gestured to the ashy-haired teen, "If anything, the school should have kicked out the creep that you and Todoroki shit-stomped in the middle of the cafeteria!"
"And that raises another point," Denki Kaminari began, popping a chicken nugget into his mouth, then chewing and swallowing before he continued. "How come you were expelled from school but Todoroki wasn't?"
The explosive teen merely scoffed in indifferent annoyance. "IcyHot's daddy is Japan's top hero. Obviously the big man pulled some strings to keep his baby boy in U.A."
The Baku-squad all nodded in agreement at how it was annoying that Bakugo was kicked out of U.A. but Todoroki, who was equally as guilty of the offence he helped Bakugo with, was kept at Japan's top hero high school. "Yeah, it's hella un-manly," Eijiro Kirishima remarked, "Although if it makes you feel any better, Todoroki himself was actually the first to say that it was unfair how he was kept but you weren't."
Hearing that made Bakugo perked up a bit out of piqued curiosity. He would have gone on to ask Kirishima for more information, but before he could he was cut off when two other U.A. students entered the fast food place at that moment. They were both girls belonging to class 1-B, the rival class to class 1-A. The two girls in question were Reiko Yanagi and Pony Tsunotori. Upon seeing Bakugo with his friends, the two girls from 1-B made a beeline for them.
"There you are, Bakugo," Reiko remarked, sounding thankful that she had found him, "I heard from Shoto that you were expelled due to how you and he beat up that creep that was being a total pervert towards me and Pony." A look of sympathy appeared on the face of class 1-B's resident ghost girl. "How are you doing?"
Arching a wry eyebrow at Reiko, Bakugo replied, "I was actually about to get to that subject with the guys here." Bakugo temporarily turned his attention back to his squad. "Believe it or not, I got accepted into another hero school." This news from the explosive teen caught his squad, as well as Reiko and Pony, all by surprise. "Yeah, I start classes over at Vulcan High first thing tomorrow."
"That is relief," Pony remarked, her lack of having a firm grasp on the Japanese language impacting her syntax, "I was much worried you would no able continue with goal of becoming a pro hero." Seeing the half-American girl express relief for his behalf, seeing her smile for him, made Bakugo's heart skip a beat. A look of curiosity flashed across Pony's face after her relieved sigh. "By the way, Reiko say Todoroki beat up creep because creep was being creep to her. Why you beat up creep?"
As Pony's question, Bakugo felt his face heat up a bit; t he snickering from Mina confirmed that the explosive teen was blushing. "…Well, IcyHot told me while we were sitting outside of Nezu's office that he has the hots for Ghost Girl here." A nod in the affirmative, as well as some mildly embarrassed blushing, from Reiko confirmed that the youngest of Endeavor's children had a thing for her. Bakugo gave the half-American girl a somewhat flustered look. "I…did what I did back there because I didn't like what that fucker was trying to…trying to do towards you."
Pony felt her own face heat up a bit as she heard Bakugo confess that he felt the same way to her that Todoroki feels towards Reiko. "When I saw what was going on, what would have happened to you if nothing was done, I just…" Bakugo let out a resigned sigh. "…I just lost it. My guess is that when IcyHot saw that Ghost Girl was with you and was also being bothered, he felt the same way that I did, so he asked me if he could help out."
The other quirked teens in the fast food place all looked at Bakugo in total surprise. The loud and proud Katsuki Bakugo had, just now and right before their very eyes, confessed to a girl that he was in love with her. And the very girl in question ended up being, of all people, Pony. The half-American girl was not expecting a boy to ever confess to her, so seeing the now-former student of U.A. saying that she had basically stolen his heart made her light up red like a shiny Christmas ornament hanging on a Christmas tree.
"…It seems that there's a lot of romance in the air, I would say," Reiko remarked after a few moments had passed in silence, getting everyone to turn to look at her. The ghost girl nodded once before she went on, "I mean, Todoroki confessed to me, and you Bakugo had just confessed to Pony just now." Reiko crossed her arms over her chest as she wore a wry smile. "And that's saying nothing about what happened in the cafeteria over at U.A. after you and Todoroki were taken off to Principal Nezu's office."
Bakugo, his interest piqued, arched an eyebrow as he regarded Reiko. "What are you going on about, Ghost Girl?"
"Oh, Bakugo, that reminds me," Hanta Sero remarked, his memory apparently sparked by the last line that Reiko had said. "During the chaos that followed you and Todoroki being dragged out of the cafeteria by Aizawa-sensei and Hizashi-sensei, Uraraka ended up telling Izuku that she was in love with him." The tape-dispensing hero-in-training gave a self-amused chuckle as he recalled the scene. "You should have been there to see the look on Izuku's face when Uraraka confessed to him."
Nodding once in the affirmative, Kirishima said, "Well, I guess that Izuku had no objections to Uraraka's confession, because after school ended that day, the guys here and I all heard that Izuku and Uraraka are now officially an item."
Bakugo arched an eyebrow out of dumbfounded surprise upon being told by his friends about what had happened while he was being expelled from the top hero high school in Japan. "You're kidding me. Deku and Round Face are together now?"
"About damn time too, at least if you ask me," Mina remarked, "I could tell from the get go that Uraraka had the hots for Izuku." The pink-skinned girl crossed her arms over her chest, leaned back in her seat as she wore a self-satisfied smile. "I have a way with things like this, just so you know. Hell, I was also able to tell that you had a crush on Pony here, Bakugo, but I figured that you wanted to be the one to tell her first."
The explosive teen lit up red, similarly to how Pony had lit up a short while ago. Mina saw the looks of embarrassment on the respective faces of Bakugo and the half-American girl that he had the hots for. Unable to help herself, Mina cracked a smile. "There's just one thing I have to ask you first, Bakugo. What do you intend to do?"
"Excuse me, Pinky?"
Gesturing to where Pony stood, Mina asked, "Will the two of you figure out if you guys want to go out with one another? Take after Izuku and Uraraka?"
Standing up somewhat forcefully from his seat, Bakugo gave Mina a somewhat enraged glare. "First off, if Pony and I do end up getting together, we'd be way better that Deku and Round Face, so don't even compare us to them! Second off, I haven't asked Pony out yet because before I do so, I want to prove to her that I'm worth her time!"
"You…" Pony began, surprised with what she was hearing, "…You want prove me you be good to me?"
Judging by the returning blushing in Bakugo's face, he must have forgotten that Pony was standing right there. Slinking back into his seat with a somewhat embarrassed air, Bakugo said in a somewhat meek tone, "Err…umm… …Yes."
Bracing himself for the laughter from his friends, the explosive teen was surprised when none of the laughter came. Instead, his squad all cheered him on, telling him that they would be cheering for his success. As for the two girls from 1-B, Reiko smiled in an understanding manner; after all, when Todoroki had confessed to her earlier, he was being cheered on by his friends Izuku, Uraraka, Tenya and Tsuyu. That scene was very much similar to how Bakugo's friends were now encouraging him to win Pony over.
Speaking of Pony, she was besides herself with shyness. After all, a boy had just confessed to her. She never would have expected it, and she had to admit that Bakugo did look good. His actions in the U.A. cafeteria that got him expelled also proved that he had her best interests in mind, and that he'd rather see her happy and free from trouble than see himself continue on for his own benefits.
As such, the half-American girl decided that she would give Bakugo the chance to 'prove himself to her', as he had put it.
Izuku was walking to a store to take care of a little bit of grocery shopping for his mother. The green haired-boy actually returned to his family's place as, due to a stink bomb prank over at U.A., the dorms had to be evacuated and fumigated, requiring all students staying at the dorms to return to their homes in the meanwhile. With Izuku as he made his way to the store was his now girlfriend Uraraka, who was glad to have whatever time she could get with Izuku.
The green-haired boy let out a resigned sigh, one that showed that he was troubled. Uraraka picked up on this right away. "Is something the matter, Izuku?"
Izuku gently shook his head. "…I still can't believe that Bakugo was expelled from U.A. I mean, I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt for so long, but now he had to go and…" Izuku stopped short, gently shook his head again. "…I'm done with him." The disappointment that was in the green-eyed boy's voice made it clear that what little faith he had in the explosive teen that he knew since early childhood was now lost, the expulsion from Japan's top hero high school being the final nail in that coffin.
Uraraka was a bit surprised to hear Izuku refer to Bakugo as Bakugo; up until now, he usually called him by the nickname of 'Kacchan'. The ashy-haired teen's expulsion from U.A. must have really made Izuku rethink a lot of how he felt about Bakugo. Still, the gravity girl allowed her boyfriend (she squealed internally like a happy excited schoolgirl when she referred to him as her boyfriend) to go on, happy that she had as much of his attention all to herself.
"I mean, he beat up a student in the cafeteria," Izuku said, "In full view of at least one-hundred other students. To make matters worse, Todoroki ended up helping Bakugo assault that poor student, instead of helping to restrain Bakugo."
A look of mildly confused curiosity crossed Uraraka's face at that moment. "…You mean to tell me that you actually sympathize with the bastard that Bakugo and Todoroki beat up? Especially considering what he did to piss those two off?"
Izuku turned to give his girlfriend a curious look. "Well, yeah. I mean, Bakugo and Todoroki beat up some random student in the cafeteria."
"Do…" Uraraka began, her tone mildly wondering, "…Do you not know who Bakugo and Todoroki beat up? Why they confronted him in the cafeteria?" Izuku confessed to Uraraka that all he knew was that Bakugo and Todoroki beat up a student in the cafeteria, and that Bakugo was expelled for it but Todoroki wasn't. He had no idea of why they beat up that random student or even who said random student was; all that he knew about the incident were the bare details that he got from Tamaki-sempai, who was grabbing lunch in the cafeteria at the time with Mirio-sempai thus the two third years had what was essentially a front-row view of Bakugo throwing his future as a pro hero away.
Uraraka had a surprised look on her face when she learned all that Izuku knew about the incident, realizing that her boyfriend (again, squeal) had nowhere near a much info on what had happened as most everyone else in class 1-A had. Izuku was about to go down the path that he usually took when he went to the store that he was going to in order to pick up some groceries for his mother, but Uraraka convinced him to take an alternative route to said store, telling him that she wanted the extra time to fill in a few blanks for him.
Izuku, figuring that whatever it was that Uraraka wanted to tell him was of great importance, decided to go along with her and take that alternative route. As such, Uraraka had the extra time before she and Izuku got to the store to fill Izuku in on what details he didn't have. With the extra time they had leftover, they also talked a bit about how, due to Bakugo's expulsion, Hitoshi Shinso was able to be moved into the hero course slightly ahead of time, and as such he ended up becoming the newest student in class 1-A.
Izuku and Uraraka also ended up taking that alternative route back from the store and over to the Midoriya apartment. As such, Izuku never went down his usual route to the store, either going there or coming back. This meant that he never encountered a certain woman who, after being officially divorced from her husband, decided to party at a bar, getting herself completely drunk in the process.
Mitsuki Bakugo, after stumbling drunkenly from the bar, encountered two teens that looked like they go to the school that her own son was just kicked out of. Mitsuki, in her drunken state, thought that the short teen boy called her fat, so she kicked him in the balls before making her way off on her drunken adventure. Eventually, the drunken Mitsuki sat down on a bench, where she proceeded to begin crying drunkenly.
She was now divorced, and to make matters worse her son was expelled from U.A. Mitsuki counted it as a blessing that Vulcan High wanted to collect what U.A. had thrown away, had wanted to give her son a chance at achieving what the top hero high school in Japan deemed as beyond what Katsuki deserved. Mitsuki didn't even care about all that her son told her about why he and Endeavor's son did what they did; as far as the Bakugo matriarch was concerned, her son's education and his path to becoming a pro hero trumped all else.
Still, her son was still given a chance, and Mitsuki would be sure to be one of the parents who often helped out at Vulcan High events, to further highlight how she was grateful that her son was given another shot at becoming one of the greats of Japanese society. And Mitsuki was now also free from the burden of marriage; she even gave a passing chuckle to the notion that her now ex-husband Masaru was currently staying at a motel until he could secure a more permanent place to stay, as she got the house in the divorce settlement.
All in all, Mitsuki felt pretty good about herself, so good that she failed to notice most all of her surroundings. This meant that she failed to hear the talking of a trio of persons that were slowly making their way in her direction. This would normally be a bad thing, as said trio consisted of the villains Dabi, Spinner and Toga, but the lot of them looked as if they had no intention to do any manner of villainy. In fact, they gave off the air of having come back from having a good time together.
"Mmm!" Toga hummed, sounding like someone who just had a very delicious meal. "The three of us ought to go out to dinner as a group again sometime in the future! That was one of the best dinners that I ever had, and the three of us doing it together made it all the better!"
Spinner nodded in agreement with the psychotic schoolgirl. "Yes, well since we're to go with Giran to the United States for a job offer from some old rich man living in Michigan, I figured that the three of us should have had a bit of a party before we go off."
"Yeah, man," Dabi remarked, "Having a bit of fun before we go overseas to do a mission for a client was a good idea. And who ever would have thought that a dinner of chicken and waffles would be so good?"
As the three villains walked along the road, they eventually passed the bench where Mitsuki was drunkenly crying on. This caught the attention of Dabi and the others. "Uhh…" Toga gave a confused sounding hum as she and the boys looked at the drunken Mitsuki, catching Mitsuki's attention in the process. "…Are you okay, Ma'am?"
"A dragon drank all of my booze and a giant French-kissed a lawn gnome." Mitsuki looked up at the trio of villains, the look in her eyes and the blushing on her face making it clear she had no idea what was going on at the moment. "How do you think I feel, officers?" Swaying a bit as she did so, the drunken woman got up from the bench she had plopped herself down on.
Dabi and the others, not used to dealing with drunken civilians, slowly backed up a few steps, hoping that they would be able to avoid being dragged into a scrape, partly because of how, as was stated they had no experience in dealing with random drunks that they came across but mostly because, as villains, if they were caught in a tussle with this woman, then regardless of all other factors they would be brought in by the police and pro heroes.
The blue flame villain held his hands up in a defensive gesture. "Ma'am, my friends and I were only on our way back home from a dinner of chicken and waffles. We don't want any-"
"Did you just call me a chicken?!" Mitsuki exclaimed angrily, drunkenly, as she swung her right foot up and right into Dabi's coin purse, scoring a critical hit on the blue flame villain that sent him collapsing into a kneeling position as he covered his wounded holy land with his hands. As she saw Dabi go down, Toga whipped out a knife to attack Mitsuki, but the drunken woman took her purse and swung it at the psychotic schoolgirl, striking her upside the head.
After Toga was thrown back by the purse strike, Mitsuki turned her attention to the crippled Dabi and kicked him over on to the sidewalk, her right foot striking him on his left shoulder. Toga was able to recover from the purse strike, but Mitsuki turned on her and dealt another purse strike, this time smacking Toga on the right of her head, sending her reeling back a bit. "Like hell I'll let anyone get away with calling me a fucking chicken!" Mitsuki drunkenly declared, "I'll kick all y'alls asses if you try to-"
*SHUNK*
Bakugo didn't feel like staying at his mom's house the night before he started his first day at Vulcan High, so after finding the motel his dad was staying at, Bakugo asked if he could crash with him. Masaru, surprised that his son was essentially choosing him over Mitsuki (even though Mitsuki was named as the primary contact/primary guardian for their son) agreed to let him stay the night, mostly because his hotel room had two beds.
"So, Katsuki," Masaru began, "Are you excited for your first day at Vulcan High?"
The explosive teen gave an indifferent shrug. "…As excited as I can be, I suppose." Bakugo was still steamed that he was kicked out of U.A., even though the equally guilty Todoroki essentially got off scot-free, even though if what his friends at U.A. told him was true the guy that he and IcyHot had shit-stomped wasn't punished in any capacity. Bakugo felt that, aside from a very select few persons still at U.A., the entirety of the place could go fuck itself right off the edge of a cliff for all he cared. Bakugo felt the need, a desire, to show U.A. up for expelling him.
…
Bakugo was checking his backpack for what all he had before he took the train ride that would lead him to Vulcan High; unlike with U.A. which had on-campus dorms, Vulcan was one of those hero high schools where students came from home, attended classes for a few hours, then went back home at the end of the day. Bakugo figured that he would go to his mom's house after school, collect a few things, then make arrangements to stay with his dad again.
Bakugo wanted as much time away from his mom, who was making his life a living hell over his expulsion from U.A., as possible, even though he would eventually have to stay with her as she was named his primary contact/guardian in the divorce. Bakugo knew that a case could be made for him to shift to staying with his dad, who at this point Bakugo preferred as he was a hell of a lot more understanding than the angry hag that was-
"Mitsuki. No."
Bakugo heard his dad speak up as he was watching the news, the tone of his voice sounding as if an enormously large bombshell was just dropped on him. Curious, Bakugo got up from where he was kneeling on the floor as he went through his backpack and walked over to where Masaru was watching the morning news on the TV in the hotel room. When he saw the news report that was being reported, Bakugo could understand why his dad was so shocked;
WOMAN IDENTIFIED AS MITSUKI BAKUGO FOUND DEAD
END, CHAPTER ONE
Author's notes;
Yeah, that was a bit of a shocker, I know. Anyway, this is the first chapter of something that I have been toying around with, an AU to my story 'A couple that will go down in legend' that sees its beginning start shortly before the actual 'ACTWGDIL' starts up. Unlike with the main story, however, this one will be of a far more serious tone; the humor and lighthearted moments will be more scarce, and there will be an increase in drama/tragedy/serious violence.
The main example of the increased seriousness of this story is the premise this story has; Bakugo being expelled from U.A. Bakugo being scooped up by U.A.'s self-proclaimed greatest rival Vulcan High will also have a large impact on the story as a whole; although most of this will be contained to the events in and before chapter twenty-four of 'ACTWGDIL', the change will also be having some serious consequences in the chapters beyond that.
There are also going to be a LOT more deaths of named characters from the series proper here than there will be in my main BNHA story; case in point, what happened near the end of this very chapter. I'm sorry if Mitsuki being killed here (spoiler alert, it was Spinner impaling her in the back with his katana) upsets a lot of you, but it's necessary to set up events that will be going on later on down the line in this story.
It's also serves to highlight that one, things happening here before the main storyline starts flowing can drastically change how the story flows as a whole, and two, to help highlight the more serious, grim tone of this AU story compared to the original 'ACTWGDIL'. Anyway, I'll soon get to work on the next chapter, which sees Bakugo dealing with more than he thought he would be dealing with as he has his first day at Vulcan High.
There's also going to be hints to this AU setting's version of how the U.A. versus Vulcan tournament will end up going, mostly in regards to which students from Vulcan ends up going against which students from U.A. Let's just say that…that a certain explosive teen will get the chance to give those who had deemed him to be a lost cause a huge middle finger, a chance that he, with the huge mix of emotions that's currently fueling him, will want to make use of.
